  2. Edited to add/change that the bins are now gone. Rhett came today and picked up the two double MWM bass bins, an empty LaScala that I had sitting around. He also ended up with the K33 driver I had for the LaScala. I suspect that by the time he got to my house, he was fearing that his body would never be found. I would have changed title to "sold" but.... they were free so they're simply gone. I have one pair of MWM bass bins left. No drivers in them....I've never heard them. Looks like the trailer they've been stored in might be in process of being sold. Told the wife we could bring them to the garage.... (that got me "The Look" iffen you know what I mean ) That got me thinking of alternative ideas.... see title.... So, until I make my conclusion on which to give away.... I'll give dibbs on the bass bins first. Located of course, "where is, as is" Price = Your cost to pickup, boxes themselves = no cost... There are no drivers in them, they are empty boxes. If you want a squawker.... then for a small fee....perhaps I'll include the wife. (I'm going to burn in hell, aren't I?!!)

  5. Amazon had these little buggers half off. They'll be my new tv speakers for a small flat panel in my bedroom. I just couldn't take those mini down firing tv speakers any more. Boy, what a difference they made.

  9. Turn 'em loose boys! Every time I do, I tell myself that I should do it more often. You can walk a hundred yards away and they still sound great. No walls or ceilings or floor or windows etc to reflect off apparently is a good thing.

  10. I thought I might want to keep these for our new house but, with the Belle's being done and with everything else going on with the house build, I'm just not going to have time to put into them. They are bone stock with K-43 woofers, (what appears to be) K-51 mids, K-77 tweeters, and untouched AL-3 crossover networks. The cabinets are in quite good shape for their age....these are 1996 models based on their sequential serial numbers. If I were to keep them, I'd repaint them in some fashion with either DuraTex or some other method. One of the front emblems looks great and the other is faded on one half of it. Some Testors red and silver model paint might be able to fix that but, again, I have left these untouched. All of the drivers work and sound as they should given their age, driver complement, and stock networks. The cabinets have no gouges in them and the only real flaws are where some paint has come off thus the reason for maybe repainting but they are quite presentable as they sit. The plastic corner protector piece is intact on both bass bins as well. These had been used in a restaurant and have no screw holes in them so they were never mounted. They have removable upper back panels to access the mid/tweeter/crossover area and have the banana jacks on them as well as the 1/4" female speaker connector and are fused. I will try to get more pictures posted soon of them tonight and am glad to answer any questions I can about them. I also have these listed on Craigslist but at a higher price point for the tire kickers. SOLD

  11. Here is a picture of some speakers that I just completed. You could call them Cornwall III clones or Cornwall inspired, but they are DIY scratch built speakers. The cabinets are Baltic birch covered in South African waterfall bubinga. They are filled with factory drivers and crossovers, so of course, they sound amazing. I'm trying them in different rooms with different amplification to determine where they are going to stay. I Love this hobby!

  12. None of us have any idea what happened. However, looking at some of the behavior displayed in the Garage Sale section, I understand why sellers might not feel welcome or not want to put up with the silliness.

  18. Ron, I'd recommend raising them up to ear level while seated, aimed-right at the listener but off-axis a little (5-10 degrees) toward the center of the room. If you can provide a solid riser below the MEHs, that would help. The rest of the bass response can be re-equalized below ~150-250 Hz to regain flat response--which is the reason why the design uses two 15" woofers--to be able to compensate for not having them in full room corners on the floor Chris

  22. Found a HK 630 in a thrift store; seems to be working fine... I guess? Missing a knob, little dusty and dirty, but the sound is sweet. Upon powering it up, the woofers of my Rb61 kept moving in and out for a few seconds; no clue what that was. Going to clean it up and perhaps find a tune up place in Albuquerque. So excited!

  23. So you're the other one. You fool! Back in the early 80's I got a really nice portable Betamax recorder and camera outfit for $1500, back when that was a lot of money. A few years later I couldn't get fifty bucks for it in a yard sale. I finally sold it in that yard sale for $35. So, did I ever tell about the nice Zenith STEREO VHS I got to replace it? Only $800 when all the other VHS players sold for $300? What's that you say? You never heard of "stereo" VHS? That's because I "future proofed" my purchase by buying the new stereo standard about to be released. I was waaay ahead of my time! So far ahead in fact, stereo never happened in VHS. No commercial movies or tapes were ever produced in stereo, at least not in the proprietary Zenith format. I don't think anyone wants my opinion on 'Atmos.' If I like it, it's bound to be the death knell for that format. ☠️☠️ ☠️

  29. If switch is "Make- Before- Break" wouldn't that work? For an instant(in the order of milliseconds) your two 8 ohm speakers would present a 4 ohm load to the amp. I am not a tube amp guru but a momentary lower impedance load would be preferable to a open load?

  31. I don't think so, because both networks would have an output to Woofer, only on the splits you send it back to the second set of 5-way posts instead of directly to the woofer itself. Where it gets tricky is the separate fuse for the woofer section. Follow the signal path grasshopper.

  34. Wow, now that would have been a nice show for sure. Pretty sure it was DP that the were touring with in Jax. If it were not DP mainline, they almost did or some say did steal the show. There is a video from around 2008 I no doubt posted here of a live changing times from that tour. Charlton showed them one more time how able to still cut the mustard. Thanks for that! Think this was Kalamazoo, not certain of the date. Think it was a state fair:. May look familiar?:

  39. One other thing that I've not discussed that I've learned as a result of listening for these few days: the performance of the mid-bass and crossover regions relative to the prior tri-amped JuBelle, and the Jubilees on either side. One thing that I should point out is that this New Center is injecting a fair amount of LF energy into the room at a point and a level that the JuBelle just couldn't inject, so some of my listening impressions my be due to the effect of "distributed bass" into the room-like using multiple subwoofers scattered in the room. My current impressions are that the midbass just below A440 tuning fork frequencies down to perhaps 100 Hz are much more coherent and realistic with acoustic instrumentation, like pianos, baritone/bass vocals, clarinet/oboe, bassoon, cello, etc. This was something that was expected when I made the change of center but once it arrived, it still caught me a bit off guard. It's a fairly large difference--but audible only when the source material is hi-fi enough to hear it. Typical movie soundtracks and amplified music usually doesn't show up this aspect, but hi-fi surround music discs and higher sound quality movie soundtracks with acoustic music really bring out this aspect in a startling way. It's a very realistic and palpable effect, increasing the feel of realism by a significant measure. I currently attribute this difference not only to the better controlled polars in this frequency band, but also to the point source effect, perhaps without the folded horn of the JuBelle introducing some amount of fidelity issues (probably lower modulation distortion and higher order horn modes). It's a bit more difficult to put into words, but the whole presentation seems to come together much more realistically, even though the physical difference lies only in the center channel change, with the Jubilees on either side unchanged. If one loudspeaker in the center makes this amount of difference, I'm now wondering what would happen if all three front loudspeakers were of the same configuration (i.e., multiple-entry K-402-based). I suppose that I'll have to wait until I can fabricate two more units to get that answer. Chris

  40. I'm not sure if you were referring to me about SH-50's, but living with them, as you do with Jubes, makes one appreciate the superior intelligibility you speak of, and it IS all done with passives. Even with a 28x28" mouth (still bigger than a LaScala or Belle I have too much bass down to 40 Hz. which mus be EQ'd down in my room. No the speakers are NOT in the corners. I get a deeper sound stage that way and there is never any need for a center channel except for movies. Everyone that has heard them, upon hearing smack dab center vocals in the "wall of sound" has to be convinced that the center is not on so I hand them the Neutrik connector for it. LOL. I'm very glad to see you did have the guts to try it on a 402, big Kudos to you for that one. In my case, I will wait until I have the wooden ones, as I don't want to mess with the original.

  41. Just be mindful with running a full-range horn (like the OP's perforated K402, Synergy, Unity, etc..) 1/4 wave interference from the floor will be a major factor below Fc. The 2 & 3 way designs (K-horn, Jub, La Scala, Belle) fare much better in that regard. IOW, for the uninitiated, don't fuss too much (or get overly excited) about how much low freq performance is gained going full range, unless the plan is to set them on the floor. At ear level, they'll need to be high passed according to their nearest boundary distance regardless of capability.
