  1. Well, I was at it again, enjoying LaScalas outdoors! This time for a company picnic. Turned all four loose for this one since it was a large area. Didn't get to crank 'em (family picnic) but did receive many comments on how clean and clear the sound was even from far away.

  2. Nice looking set, don't see them for sale around here too often: https://seattle.craigslist.org/est/ele/d/klipsch-chorus-ii-speakers/6699027752.html

  3. We have clay but they call it gumbo. When it's saturated you can dig it but it sticks to everything. When it's dry it's like concrete.

  4. Different animals as well. Michigan runs its marching band as a living classroom for music majors so you have woodwinds, clarinet, sax, flutes. They also have a very modern drum line drum corps style. Very precise stick height, 6 tuned bass drums and they play super clean in the snare section Ohio State is all brass which means they have a monster sound, the kind of sound you need to project when playing to 100,000 people. That same tradition keeps them from having a modern drum line although those boys can play! They use those snare drums above waist level which is showy for high leg marching but is very clunky to play. The bass drums accent 2&4 which is the way Sousa used to write it. Not exactly percussive state of the art. (I saw the bass line on TV last night. They now use 5 tuned bass drums like everybody else. That's progress!) I'd like to see Ohio State update those black and white uniforms, spats and bus driver hats, but in their defense if they tried to change that the band director would be run out of town on a rail! Both schools have a lot of drum corps experienced members and both are very talented both in both woodwinds/brasswinds and percussion. Both have very good playing bands. I love the huge sound of the Ohio State horn line, but for overall sound, more modern percussion and modern arrangements the nod goes to the Wolverines.

  5. Of course they do, it's like there moment in the spotlight. Like the words in the Eagles song, Dirty Laundry "We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blondWho comes on at fiveShe can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eyeIt's interesting when people dieGive us dirty laundry"

  6. Speaking of digging, I've got to get back to it. 3 cups of joe and a good breakfast down. Its hard to get motivated, its going to be in the 90s out there. Just a few hours then grill some tri tip roast and asparagus. Later......

  8. @KROCK I doubt it will dry out before it gets to CA! Checked our paper's website. Several sites around town out of 72 are reporting close to 7" since yesterday now. Gully washer. @CECAA850 ours is red clay here, what you're talking about I've seen around and I hate it. We call it bull tallow, and if you walk around in it when saturated each foot could end up weighing forty pounds and being 2' X 2' X 2' blocks because it's so sticky.

  9. Not before my boots get stained orange from sinking into our mushy clay earth here! Do ya'll have a sandy soil like the eastern part of the Carolinas do? It's supposed to quit raining tomorrow

  10. Sounds like the spring in south east TX. I hope it dries up soon for you.

  11. We've had 4.9 inches of rain since yesterday morning according to the weather underground station three blocks away that I value. Not astronomical, but it's been blustery and cooler. My time on the bike tells me that we had 45 to 50 mph gusts several times when I was out gathering limbs in the yard. Today I'm sticking with the first quart of colombian peaberry from Volcanica, yesterday we had second coffee around 9. That's a good priced decent place to get your beans, it's in Atlanta and they roast the day you order then ship it. Running out soon, got Jamaican Blue Mtn coming in next. It is pouring down and has been constantly since before the sun came up today. We might make it to 8 or 10 inches total if it keeps this up like the radar shows it will.

  14. I miss the old days too. Big games. Big grins and big disappointments. Unlike the Tide game tonight. They played everyone on the bench. When they put in 2 cheerleaders and a tuba player I changed channels.

  15. Ok, the Buckeyes managed to be ugly and win 40 to 28. Guess I miss those 10 to 9 games from the 70's

  19. I think I saw where Florence is moving at 3 mph. Myrtle Beach has some flash flooding but the ocean stayed where it belongs, no surge. At least that danger has passed. I find it a bit annoying that the in-field reporters are trying to drum up enthusiasm for this slow moving rain storm. I think they are driving around looking for downed trees so they have something to get excited about. Heck, around here trees fall down every time it rains and the wind blows.

  20. Appreciate it, I'll look to the 450c and go from there, possibly starting at 3.1 then adding the surrounds later.

  21. No, not the band that did the sound track for "The Dirt Gang." The pepper harvest is abundant this year. I have a couple of special edition sauces to offer. The first is called Yellow Peril, and uses 7 pot peppers. It packs some heat, with a bright flavor using ginger and garlic, finished with lime juice and Hawaiian sea salt. The second is Red Menace, from Arkansas Ghosts, which hasn't been made yet, but will be soon. Sizes are subject to custom order. Prices are in line with previous pricing.

  27. Agree. If budget permits, you could get two RF-7 IIIs and that’s it. They have dual 10”woofers and you can add on from there. Getting the center and sub, then some surrounds. Talking to Cory is a must for any new Klipsch speakers, he has great service and prices. You could also look at the used market and wait for an RF-63 or RF-83 like Wvu80.

  31. Yes, I noticed that. The glory days of the past at Ohio State are apparently over with. I wish the Tide played them next week. The Horned Frogs are giving gave the game away.

  32. Regarding what, his assurance to us that there was targeting? Instant replay reversed the call. (I'm watching two games on two TV's, the TCU game and the Texas game) If so, I'm with you. When a defensive player glances his facemask off a runner while making a tackle, that's not targeting.

  33. I'll bet that many ways will work. A room that's too dead is oppressive. Yet, in a former home, my Khorns were in an a tiny room, about 800 cu.ft., and my desk chair (listening chair) was inches from the back wall, so I covered most of that wall with 4" thick Sonex foam that was an effective absorber down to 400 Hz. The higher part of the wall, where it could not reflect down on me, was plaster, and gave way into a loft, . The rest of the room was covered with book shelves with about 1/2 absorption (books) and 1/2 diffusion (art objects). Naturally, the Khorns had 4 feet unobstructed (wood) wall running to either side of their corners. From my desk chair, it sounded great! From the sides, one still got stereo, but the imaging was scrunched and bunched. In my current home I have a 4,000 + cu.ft. room with a little less absorption, proportionally, and as much diffusion as we could manage. Many studios have (had -- I haven't been in one for about 16 years) Live End Dead End (LEDE), typically with the wall behind the listener all diffusive, and the front wall all absorptive. Some like it, some don't. See Artto's Klipschorn room for Bonner type polycylindrical diffusors. https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/19799-arttos-klipschorn-room/&

  36. How about them Hogs? Lol. Man, they suck. I may have been born and raised here but lived away for 20 years. They have never been my favorite team in no way shape or form. How can anyone be such a huge fan of a team that's almost always in a "rebuilding phase"? It's just always been so sad to watch them that I rarely do and I don't really care that my daughter is in college there, either. Lol. And my mother in law is a huge hog fan so it's always fun to point out how crappy they are. Ha. At least my other two red teams typically win; Alabama and Oklahoma. And how about that punt return that UNT did on the hogs today where they thought he signaled a fair catch. I've had to laugh every time I see it.

  37. U of H is tied with Texas Tech, 28 - 28, with 1:53 left in the 1st half. The game is all offense from both sides and no defense.

  38. That sounds like a good analysis. That's why the top college teams will typically score 40 points a game and in the pros I would guess the top teams average closer to 28 ppg. I bet that's what explains why so many college Heisman quarterbacks are mediocre (or worse) when they get to the pros.

  39. Hey Ron, if you can get pick up some great speakers from a forum member and get them home without cutting off an ear, I call that a successful road trip. 👍 But come on, setting them up as large computer speakers? You'd never catch me doing that...

  43. I didn't have room for a sub, so I put a couple 25hz tapped horns under my Belles which took up no more real estate. Elevated the mid and tweeter more to ear level as well. I really like the way they blend with the Belle crossed over just below 100 hz. I'm in the camp of Belles (La Scalas) have excellent bass, just not low bass. I more often than not listen to music without turning the subs on. When I do, there is an improvement, but I wouldn't trade the slap of the bass bins for a boomy subwoofer. Just my 2 cents. Oh and toed in.

  45. Turn 'em loose boys! Every time I do, I tell myself that I should do it more often. You can walk a hundred yards away and they still sound great. No walls or ceilings or floor or windows etc to reflect off apparently is a good thing.
