  1. Hello friends........ I just wanted to let you know that I left a message of concern from all of us here in a voice mail on Chuck's answering machine moments ago. I also asked (as soon as he is able) to call me and I would happily pass on any messages to the group for him.... I will keep you all informed... That is all.... Gary

  4. Anymore news about Chuck relayed via LF? Afterall, we are just the audio junkies and she is LF. I'm guessing CCC crowd is in the top 10 of people to reach out to when telecon is restored but LF has to be #1 or 2. I pay for my 89 year old mother in law's cricket flip phone with 200 minutes a month just for us tracking her down and for emergencies. Kind if a peace of mind thing for us. Maybe we should take a collection to get Chuck a basic phone so we can keep track of him. The have really big buttons for olde dudes, simple UI. He can charge it in his cars that are well detailed but under water.šŸ˜ˆ

  7. I hope he is OK, you're right I wouldn't wish it on anyone. For people away from a coast, it's way more than getting power back and cleaning up trees, that's just a start, the part you see from the general pictures, then the slow work starts.

  9. True if you have a VOIP or some other non-traditional land line. I actually have that because I have an all in one cellular/Internet appliance that converts to a standard line for old modular jack phones. I may have incorrectly assumed since Gary said answering machine and not voice mail it was an old skool land line with nothing special. Since he does not have a cell phone I was going with old school. Entirely possible he has a bundled service with voice/phone/cable in which it could be Voice Mail. Semantics I guess but a distinct difference between answering machine and VM. EDIT: Before Mike gives us 57 links with 6" pictures each and makes this page unreadable One of my favorite Replacements songs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4QYJG8AxSw

  10. I'm not so sure about that. I seem to remember (years ago when I had a land line) that the recording mechanism was actually stored in the phone company's hard drive somehow. It was similar to how the cell phones store messages.

  12. It's kind of a box inside a box. Something between ported and open baffle with sides, at least in my mind. I believe it is modified Onken specifics from the designer of the horns. here is a more generic drawing of Onken cabinet. See how if you took the outside 3 sides and the top off it would be similar to an open baffle with some sides added. I'm not much of a speaker design nut but these seem to do the job and have been around for a long time from what I gather.

  15. Hard to hold the tape and take the picture but about 29" across. That is a 10" bass driver below and it looks tiny

  16. 8" the horns are HUGE! The detail and soundstage is wonderful, but like my Khorns they don't hide any flaws. On the fence about which to keep. I'll get a picture with something next to them for reference.

  25. What makes that even worse storm surge can give the water trying to drain off other areas no place to go. With that much raIn it takes time for everything to drain off especially when the rivers are full a long way inland from the same rain. It's going to be a mess, I know you seen how long it takes to just get everything ruined out to the street and to be picked up, and that's just a little part of it. There is going to be no shortage of firewood, trees that people would have never touched are down. .

  26. LOL! You're poking fun, but there really is a story! I was probably ten so let's say 50 years ago I fell out of the huge sycamore tree beside our house. As I laid there groaning all I could say to my brother was "go get dad, I think I broke my arm." Brother goes hauling butt to find dad and a couple of minutes later he returns with said father. I'm laying on the ground crying and moaning, I say "dad I think I broke my arm." My dad leans over me laying in the dust holding my arm, assesses the situation for a minute or so, finally takes the cigarette out of his mouth and says to me in his best Dad Voice (no kidding) "Dave, what were you doing climbing the tree?" It's been a half century and I still don't have an answer.

  27. is it true what is said that it's not so much the fall that is an issue but when you stop falling is when the real problems occur? how many times were your falls stopped? or how many falls? multiple stops within a single fall, like hitting branches on the way down? do you still climb trees, perhaps to test your "falling skills" for comparison to the days of yore?

  31. It's amazing to me that some people think they are sitting on a gold mine when it comes time to sell. This guy will be a long time waiting on a buyer for this pair. https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis9522g-klipsch-lascala-home-theater

  32. Education is the Key, if one does not take the time to investigate value, or simply has a sentimental attachment they will always look at a new pair and base value off that. I allow that anyone selling can ask any amount they like. What I find amusing is how quickly they get offended when someone attempts to enlighten them as to reality. I long ago decided it was not worth the effort to deal with such people. Let them have there fantasy, another pair or ? will be along soon enough

  35. I have tried multiple amps like Yamaha, Carver and Acurus with an avr and compared to the avr alone. If the speaker is getting enough power, there is no more low end to get without using tone control or something else to increase the bass. A good sub can deliver a better 35 Hz and under. This is more noticeable in movies. The question is, what do you really mean by more low end? When I think of low end for movies, it comes down to chairs shaking, pressure in the ears and chest, air moving around the room. Loud bass can be achieved by a sub or speaker capable in the 65 to 130 Hz range. The Integra is a good avr and the amp may not add much IMHO. A 200 watt amp is only 3 db louder thnt an avr or amp of 100 watts. This is only a slight increase in volume. To double the volume, you need 10X the power or go from 100 watts to 1000 watts, Wow! Most of the large Klipsch speakers don't need much power . I have a 4300 to 4600 cu ft. HT and the never use 200 watts/ch for HT. I turn the system up to reference level quite often so things are running full blast. I do use subs since a subwoofer can play lower, louder and more accurate than a woofer.

  36. OSU's defense is very inexperienced behind that very good defensive line. Theyā€™re learning fast and weā€™re good enough to overcome TCU's hyper speed offense. Their offensive line is showing signs of being a big surprise, in a good way. We'll see how they turn out. Really too soon to tell. Bama, Georgia, and Clemson are the real deal. OSU needs to really up their game to compete with them. Cincy

  38. Don't know yet.. It showed up in my email... From the Schizoid Shop You are simply the best. (And now we all have that Tina Turner song stuck on our minds.) We have said it before, but you are the best, and we LOVE receiving your contest entries. We continue to go through entries for the adjective contest (yes, you can insert an eye roll here with our delay in choosing a winner). In the meantime, we wanted to share a few photos received from the current Meltdown contest. These are not the only ones we have received, but these seemed fun to share on this Fripp Friday. We will continue to share more in coming weeks. We are keeping it short this week, other than to note we are friends with the label who released the recent Allan Holdsworth collection and we have added the latest vinyl box as a pre order as the label is currently pressing more of these extensive sets. Until next week, enjoy the music, AND the photos! Gilbert clearly is melting down in this photo! Luke melts down when he realizes his used copy of Discipline is defective and he vows only to shop from DGM in the future. Jess almost appears to be in a zen state in his meltdown moment. And, last but not least, our Meltdown CD. Product Name $49.99 Buy Now Product Name $49.99 Buy Now Product Name $49.99 Buy Now Copyright Ā© 2018 Schizoid Shop, All rights reserved.

  42. Thatā€™s one point of view but definitely not fact. We all have different versions of what sounds ā€œbetterā€. I have been on an experimental journey and I have tried just about every possible combination out there and I can tell you that a properly integrated subwoofer can make a world of difference. Especially when the area the OP is specifically looking to improve his low end performance. I have added and removed about 7 multichannel amplifiers and have tested out about 25 quality subwoofers these last 5 years. There is likely no better place for the money to be spent on home theater, than on a subwoofer and center channel, Iā€™m my opinion. I am also an advocate for multichannel amplifiers but there have been times where I couldnā€™t hear much of a difference adding power amplifiers to a top shelf receiver. I think the OP should do both but sounds like he doesnā€™t have space for a sub. Adding an amplifier will probably make a nice improvement in sound, just not sure it will provide the low end, he is in search of. If space is tight, check out a sub like the SVS PC-4000, which takes up very little floor space. Just want to help you maximize your $/performance ratio OPšŸ¤‘
