  1. Spotless Klipsch Belles with Crites Crossovers. Not a nick or mark on these anywhere. Please see corresponding pics and tags for more info. Bought these a number of years back and swore never to sell but found a great deal on Harbeth SL5 Plus that I cannot pass on while still owning Forte II's, Cornwalls, and Quartet's. Have downsized to the Harbeths for music and Klipsch RB61 II's for TV and movies. The Belles were built into a cabinet so were never really exposed to damage nor sun. Pic will follow of that. Second owner. Asking $3,000 based on condition and recent sale in Sacramento of a pair with major issues. SF/Northbay, about 50 miles north of the Golden gate, Sonoma County.

  5. The part came in, plus a couple of extra parts. I removed the bad parts the day before to be ready, it only took about 30 minutes to get it fixed, finished cutting my sister's grass then came home and cut all of ours. Friends came in from out of town for the weekend and I forgot to post what happened. I ordered one tie-rod end and the turnbuckle that connects it to the other tie-rod. they sent both tie-rods ends completely connected with a turnbuckle plus another turnbuckle and holding nut. We called them and the guy said that must be how it comes now, he credited us the $46 and said just mail the part back when we get time, they were very nice about it. Plus I got both tie-rod ends new which means new ball joints. Doing great, I can't have the tractor broken, plus I just love the tractor, it helps with so many things. You can see it was cracked once before and started to rust and cracked the rest of the way. It's about a 1" thick bar

  7. LOL! I know you found the reply in your junk mailbox, but you need to work on your salesmanship: You: "Honey, I found some speakers for free. Is that OK?" Honey: "if it's free and you want them, it's OK." You: "Great Honey, you're the best! Can I get the checkbook? I need fifteen hundred ..."

  11. ...if you haven't guessed already ... I'm too cheap to buy something like that. lol I do appreciate some of the nice stuff. There are things I wouldn't have even if money wasn't an obstacle. Don't need mood lighting in the bathtub or cashmere carpet. I would have the place wired for sound, that's for sure. We don't "fine dine", but I can hold my own in the kitchen.

  12. Found these today, I dont usually buy paintings because I dont know enough about art to make an informed purchase. We infact left the store and 10 miles down the road I told the wife I wanted to go back and get them. Now I just have to find a place to hang them. I looked on line but could not find anything about the Artist Scott. I just like to look

  22. $1500 for all four ... not $1500 ea wife lit up when I even mentioned it. Saved me some trouble.... The joke about wall and ceiling supports wouldn't have been too far off. I would have had to build for them AND me. Not that the idea of expanding the doghouse hasn't crossed my mind. Cooking and restroom... lol.

  25. Cute mug, Mike is this like the joke about eating chicken with your fingers? No, the fingers should be eaten alone.... Opened a fresh bag of ArivacaBlend beans. And it is fresh. All the beans have a good gloss. The light roast tend to "dull" fast. Should look for a bag of the light roast. Think it's Guatemalan. The dark beans are FrenchRoast. I am OK with French, not my favorite. A wee too roasted for my taste. Tempered with some light ... very good. I didn't follow any ladies home from Safeway. That was good. Got fixin's for lasagna. May or may not have meat in it. Usually not. dumb Q How many of you cook the pasta before you assemble lasagna? I don't. Never have. Then I see "ready to use" dry pasta ... no cooking needed, before assembly. I always just added some water to the pan or make the sauce a little sloppy.

  26. 10% distortion at full output(3 watts?) Yikes. And a review done with speakers that are 24” and 29” apart. Sometimes the devil is in the details. while $200 is not a lot of money, I would have suggested a used Decware SE84 for $400, which would have put you in a less compromised amp with some quality parts.

  29. I am amazed that you get "full" sound with this setup. Tried a Bob Latino ST-70 tube amp (supposedly 35W/ch) with my Forte's and just did not think it was enough. Sold it and went back to a vintage Marantz 1060 which blows me out of the room

  30. Got the other two transferred. Will need to edit (not the sound, just breaks and such as I did it all as one file) before converting to mp3 for upload. The 24/88.2 sounds great. I got to thinking how exciting it was in the early years of the growth of audiophiles as improvements in quality were coming out every few years. RIAA and FFR recordings in the late 40s, microgroove LPs in the early 50s, Westrex stereo in the mid-50s, and then reel to reel tape. And, of course, the cassette in the late 60s and a lot of abortive related technology like Elcassette and LP surround sound. New speakers, new turntables, new, new new!. It was so exciting. These disks were certainly exciting to those who invested in their first 33.33 RPM turntable and cartridge. And, they still are when in good shape and played properly. More when I post them. Dave

  31. I bought four consecutive numbered LSI's yesterday. These are beat up and need some repair which includes restoring smashed in corners and beat up dog house points. Is a structural filler two part epoxy the best way to fill in chunks missing? What ever I do I want these repairs to be permanent and not subject to falling off under shock and to be as durable as the original baltic birch was. The other consideration was fiberglass and resin. I am thinking of sanding these down and painting them black. Spent some time looking for aluminum trim pieces like the Klipsch LSI's came with and no luck. Leaning towards preserving the original finish though with no trim and painted black. Pictures sometime later today.

  32. My wife and I actually sat down to a movie last night (it's been quite a while since we did this on the living room system), and she was really surprised by the music. She's been a professional musician her entire life, performing as a pianist and musical director for countless stage productions, with as much of an orchestra as each show could afford. As the movie went along, she looked at me and commented about how clear the music was, and how she could hear each instrument in specific locations. She said that she hadn't experienced that with any home based equipment, ever. "It sounds like live music" was something she remarked upon. We talked about sound stages, and the Klipsch Epics being such good speakers. I happened to mention that the "Klipschorn" models were even better, and we might have to keep our eyes out for any that come available. *<;o) I think I might have another convert on my hands. *crosses fingers for some Khorns!*

  34. In my experience, the K-402 has sound quality properties in subjective listening that I've not heard with any other horn. This is due to its straight-sided walls and tractrix mouth which is larger than most other HF horns. The FC260 tractrix horn is a Greg Roberts product (Volti Audio) and is completely different than the K-402. The subjective listening difference in terms of room-filling capabilities of these two horns is likely to be quite large, among other differences in listening properties--with the K-402's performance eclipsing what I would consider to be a basically "home brew" Volti produced horn. The man behind the K-402 design is Roy Delgado with a career in horn loudspeaker design for the most noted company in terms of producing horn-loaded loudspeakers. I think that the difference in sound starts there with a much greater understanding of the design factors involved and much more extensive R&D of its horns. I know that the K-402 took some years develop and was a extension of the K-510 horn design. The Volti horn was a copy of a horn style that's been around since at least the 1970s and as such does not have the benefit of horn engineering knowledge that has taken place since the 1970s. I could get more technical in my description of the differences, but I believe that the bottom line is in how it sounds. If you don't first hear a K-402 before electing to lay money down for a pair of Greg R.-produced horns, I believe that you will eventually come to regret a buying decision once you do hear a pair of K-402s in a well setup room. I've owned K-402s for almost 11 years now, ten of which with TAD TD-4002 drivers, and I've not heard any other horn that produces this kind of performance. I recently helped a forum member @Delicious2 dial in his K-402s on top of Khorn bass bins with BMS 4592ND dual-diaphragm 2" drivers. You can ask him for his listening impressions. Chris

  37. IB Slammin I want to thank you for your emails for me to keep the jbl 2446h midranges,I have been using them with Volti VTK-400 crossovers and I was ready to sell them and try something else, today I kept making adjustments with crossover and I found the right combination today. The speakers now are noting short of state of the art, they image, have sweet dynamic top end with great solid bass. The music seems to continue after the last note,I also have been trying out different amps and I remember you and a couple of other members talking that Bob's Klipschorns were some of the best you have ever heard,I think the McIntosh C-34v preamp may have help you guys come to that conclusion. The tone controls and the adjustable loudness control really blend well with the speakers, thanks again for urging me to keep them.

  45. I would shoot to make the crossover point as low as possible, thereby allowing the full range driver to do as much as possible without the interference of a crossover and issues associated with two drivers operating in the crossover range. In my case, I have a non-conventional 3 way system. The HF driver is in an Oris horn which rolls off at 150Hz. I chose a 300Hz crossover to have plenty of hf performance before the horn ran into roll-off territory. So, my HF driver goes from 20kHz to 300Hz. The OB H frame drivers go from 300Hz to 80Hz. From 80Hz to 20Hz I use my RSW-15s in order to get a true 20Hz-20kHz capability. I have not found a better way to do it. For LFE I use 4 huge ported full Marty subs with 18" drivers. As we all know, in an ideal world, you would use a single driver for the entire frequency range and avoid any crossovers. However, that unicorn doesn't exist AFAIK. Your ears will be the ultimate judge, but I submit you will be better served with the full range driver covering the largest possible portion of the audio frequency spectrum.

  47. John, thanks very much for posting the tones. I just burned a CD and will run the measurements myself over the weekend. Guys, you really need to give this a try! It will truly dispel the myth that most Klipsch speakers need huge power when played very loudly. If you look at the tabulated data on the DIY thread, many of the guys who indicated needing 2V or less are using far less efficient speakers than what we enjoy here. If we can get enough folks to actually try this, we can try to set up a similar tabulation, and I suspect that we are going to need categories for 0.5V or less, 0.5-1V, 1V-1.5V, and 1.5V to 2V. Let's see if my suspicion is correct. By working with voltage calculations (which are then converted to power), and the absolutes of the digital domain, we can get a reasonable sense of how much power is needed to satisfy our listening requirements. And, remember, you can run the test at all different volume levels. Try it at the absolute limits of your tolerance, and also try it at your typical listening levels (which I assume will be somewhat lower). If the data proves out as I expect it will, it will open up many new amp options. Just think, instead of spending a huge fortune for monster power amps, you can put that money into lower power amps which offer better sound quality. This is something which even the SS guys can appreciate, I'm sure. Maynard
