  4. The dedicated music room is 16'x 23'x9'. The LS/Altecs are centered and slightly toe in on the long wall facing the sofa. The RP-280 F's are centered on the short wall in front of the gear facing two comfy arm chairs. The McIntosh ML-1Cs don't get play time but serves as end tables next to sofa. The freebie EPI 202s have never been hooked up so of course I needed set #5😐 Thinking of putting the M3s where the 280Fs are and moving the 280s to the corners for now. 3' from the side walls.......10' apart.....and 10' from the comfy chairs. Adjust as needed. And yes Mike....A Man Needs a Maid.

  5. That's right Paul & Mike, it's the other red. Ya'll know I was thinking of the similar sounding trio from the 80s. alright, get a hold of yourself an' don't fight it, it's over your head it's alright, the rumble in your ears

  8. Thanks Mike. I think I read/listened to all reviews prior to pulling the trigger. They are sitting in my bedroom, covered, with a blanket, ready to make their debut. My buds, bluesboy and Keith McGowan have also been making system changes so it should be fun comparing notes (even if it is by phone). I have the solid state ATI @150wpc and the tubed Horn Monos @25wpc so one should sound magical.......

  10. that would be called... discipline.. The other red album... But not red it self ... I repeat... The more I look at it, The more I like it. I do think it's good. The fact is.. No matter how closely I study it, No matter how I take it apart, No matter how I break it down, It remains consistent. I wish you were here to see it. I like it. Now this is off of red !

  14. them's fighting words to a pro Klipsch guy! No doubt that pro gear can be a very good way to go. I do have some hesitations/reservations however, one being pro stacks in a home setting where the mid and tweeter horns are well up above your head when seated, this in not at all optimal but where pro gear is set up to accommodate a home setting for sure it will deliver much lower distortion levels when compared to conventional home gear. the other caveat I have is that when you look at pro stacks a d look at the response curves most times what you are looking at are the curves for at least a stack of four bass bins since they are designed to be used in multiples of at least four bass bins a side of the stage so that has to be kept in mind and the extra room gain in a small home will help with that but you need to keep such things in mind as you might just need a sub or two

  20. The original 301 is basically a pro Chorus 1 all the same drivers but different cabinet and crossover. The 301-II is the updated version with the Tractrix tweeter and mid horns but the mid driver has also been updated to a 2" titanium screw on type.

  21. This week should be fun. Painters are coming bright and early Monday morning to paint the music room. Everything is pulled to the center of the room to access the walls. Tuesday morning will be vacuuming, dusting, uncovering the gear and putting it into place. Tuesday afternoon I will hook up the new to me ATI 1502 to the new to me Spatial Audio M3 Turbo S speakers (sounds like a Porsche huh). Fiddle about with proper placement, mix a drink, and sit back and listen a bit.........

  32. would like to but never used a duck but did use Rock Cornish Hens and stuffed them with pork/bread stuffing to help keep thing more on the fat/juicy side as a duck would (much more fat on a duck than a turkey). That was a long time ago but it was very good. A very happy Christmas to all the good folk here and all across the country to those who partake. A happy Hanukkah as well to our Jewish brothers. Tis the season.

  40. Picked up a Marantz 8801 today for a great number. Going to replace on of the Onkyo units and build a system for my granddaughter. She just turned 20 months, so I'm running out of time, or that's what I told Denise.

  41. To my thinking, all this waxing poetic about slew, current, THD, etc. aside, the most important measurement is: Can it be distinguished, while blinded, from other amps that are similarly intended to be linear to within our hearing limits. To any beginners/ newbies reading this thread, consider this: To date not ONE manufacturer has ever cited how their amplifier, buoyed by all of their proprietary approaches and topology, etc. etc. is actually preferred, in blinded trials, by experienced audiophiles to other amps which are also engineered to be linear under normal operating conditions. Audiophiles should be more like doctors when they talk to Drug reps. A typical response from a wise doctor when confronted by a drug rep is usually: "Don't bore with details about mechanism of action, or how your drug improves a particular physiological measurement! What I want to know first is Outcomes!! Show me the data that indicates patients on your drug live longer or they feel better. ..If you can show me that, then I'll be interested in the all the how's and why's..." Otherwise, save your breath." I think there's a lesson in this for audiophiles.

  42. hey guys, thought that i'd drop in and say hello. for those who don't know me, i'm a big fan of high efficiency speakers and have long admired pioneers such as pwk. several years ago i read through his "dope from hope" newsletters and found it kind of amazing (and sad) that so much was known a long time ago and we seemed to have to keep re-learning it all over again. :-) it is also a litle mind-boggling some of the folds are on the heritage cabs--and all in a world before cad. as some of you know, i try to help folks on various forums (mostly limited to avs these days simply owing to time constraints) with their subwoofer projects of all sorts. we started the company as way to offer flat packs for the folks who wanted some good bass but found full-out diy a little too intimidating and/or time consuming. once we get situated with the core line-up, i'd really like to offer some horn designs and/or other high efficiency designs. as many of you know, the core line-up may not be the best choice for blending with high efficiency mains, especially for music. perhaps over the coming months, folks can help provide a little guidance as to the kinds of products that you might like to see us offer. no promises on timelines at this point. :-) a lot of our products may begin as traditional diy projects as well, for folks where that may be a preferred solution. as an important point, if anything that i share ever comes of as 'advertising', please let me know. that's not my goal and i hope none of my comments will ever be interpreted that way. i just want to see everybody achieve their audio goals and will try to assist in that process as best that i can. i appreciate all the kind remarks. john

  44. As was stated, don't apply any EQ to your sub. Equalizers should only be used to lower frequency peaks, not raise frequency nulls.
