  3. As a pipe organ lover, I use a horn loaded sub even with Klipschorns. Works seamlessly and it only takes one. Need that last octave for the last octave down to C0, and it helps with piano and other things. No freestanding speaker is going to get to C0 if it will fit in any room. Sub is a must for those who want it all, even with Heritage. PWK stated outright the K'horn was designed to cover the range of 98% of all recorded music without being so big, heavy, and expensive it only a few could afford it. However, you can get the other 2% with a separate horn loaded sub that doesn't break the bank. Some of us want that last 2%. Dave

  8. You have a lot of nice amps, and great speakers. It would be very labor intensive, but why not cut the list in half, then try about half of them for about 1 week each, with the same collection of music of many types. But first, lightly treat the room, if it isn't treated already. Find Chris A's thread, titled "Corner Horn Imaging" on this forum. He describes (either in that thread or another) some special room treatment configurations for corner horns, like putting an absorber on each side wall to catch the sound from the midrange horn where there would be an immediate reflection off the wall. You only need 2 feet in width, by 4 feet in height. He gives instructions on exactly where to place it. Chris also recommends that nothing be placed between the Khorns. I seem to remember that info came from Roy Delgado the Klipsch chief engineer. I have no particular amp recommendations. My Khorns are powered by NAD, and I like the sound. They aren't supposed to need burn-in, beyond about 30 minutes or so, but I noticed (or imagined) that the Klipsch stock upgrades I put in mine began to sound better after several weeks of daily playing.

  9. Definitely Forte III as they don't take up all that much more floor space than Heresy. Contact Cory (Metropolislakeoutfitters) for a killer deal on "B" stock that you'll likely not be able to see why they are. That's what I did. Just do it. You don't need to hear them first (I didn't).

  10. … o O (since we're talking about the garage) consider a condensation drain pipe from the a/c unit - to a sump pump well, for a backyard sprinkler invention.... you still have time to put a conduit branch in there 🙂 … o O (no reason to sleep when a crew is scheduled for tomorrow) edit explanation lol - well is a sunken 5 gallon bucket with a proximity sensor... (a screen over the top to keep your dog from lickin' it dry) the submerged pump could be a low voltage pond unit... the sprinkler system could be 3/8" poly tubing mist system.... just an idea before the garage (the drive in yeti) is sprayed with open cell foam EVERYWHERE... during a dry January...

  13. Let everyone know where you are. You'll get an invite to audition. Warning...I was exposed to Klipschorns by PWK in 1971. Ruined my life as I spent the next decades trying to afford them. Then, when you have them, your search for speakers is over. Not natural for audiophiles... Dave

  16. Man, your questions and comments are going to fit perfectly into the next thread I am planning on regarding the RP-600M vs the RF-83's! Good question. I've been listening to the RP-600'Ms now in the Mancave doing 2.0 and 3.1 listening with an RC-64 III in the middle. They do have some limitations but they fit very well acoustically with the big center speaker, and work really well in 2.0. I just moved the RP-600M to the living room so I haven't tested it fully in 2.0, but I do have some comments. In the Mancave the RP600M was not set up properly, nearfield above my head on their sides but pushed with a 200 wpc XPA-5 external amp. The had an articulate mid-range, really good highs and surprisingly strong mid-bass. These absolutely can stand on their own as a stereo pair in 2.0. I found the limitations to be that they were fairly thin at lower power levels, but what speaker isn't? They have a real sweet spot around med to loud where they sound friggin' unbelievable with a full, very balanced sound. Male and female vocals are pleasant and clear. Bass guitar has some punch and can give you a chest thump. That's unheard of for a pair of bookshelf speakers with 6.5" woofers. I'll tell you something else they do; they image like you would not believe. I simply plugged them in without being setup and Judge Judy was on TV as I plugged everything in. In my picture below you can see the speakers are a bit below the TV, but I swear when I first heard them the sound was coming exactly from the center of the TV. It sounded better than with my dedicated MTM center speaker w/7" Usher woofers, which is no slouch. I had to recheck my AVR to make sure the center was turned off. It was. That phantom center with the RP-600M blew the RF-83's away. I couldn't believe it. The other limitation is if you try to get crazy loud. They play nicely loud but if you push it to ear bleed levels (which they will handle power-wise) they become a bit unbalanced as the top end gets a bit compressed and you lose dynamics. Understand, I am being super-picky here. The RP-600M has a fantastic sound in the SPL range where 90% of us listen. It sounds live! with some punch in its sweet spot. I am about to try them as mains myself where I'll use them in 2.0, then add a single 15" sub, then add a nice dome tweeter MTM center for multi-channel. So far they have handled everything I've thrown at them. I'm interested in how they will do with the sub engaged. +++ Geez, I almost forgot about your original question, what height stands do I recommend? From my seated position they are slightly below axis. I think I would like to try them higher at ear level, which means another 6 inches high, which means a 24 inch stand. I'll experiment with that. As they sound right now on their current 18" stands, slightly below center I can tell you they sound great. Edit: I just checked the Monoprice web site on the Glass stands @RTR linked to. They are listed at 23.6 inches. Those are the ones to go for. In 2.0 it sounds like Judge Judy is yelling at the litigants directly from her mouth in the center of the screen, crystal clear.

  17. @ODS123 - The difference is that you presume to tell newbies how they should approach our hobby. That your way is the "correct" way. In my opinion, new folks need to explore what our hobby has to offer and gain experience so that they can decide what matters to them - not you, not me. I can only offer what has worked, and not worked, for me in the 47 years that I have been an audio hobbyist. That may, or may not work for a newbie as each person must identify their priorities. Just my opinion.

  19. You know what the difference is? You don't see (most) others on this forum pushing their opinions as the gospel of Jesus Christ himself. I don't care what your (or anyone else for that matter) credentials are. I trust my ears as to what sounds good. I was listening to "March of the Toy Drums" on my Kenner close n play in the mid-60s. Been immersed in music ever since. Don't you dare challenge my credentials......... Shakey

  20. Lost 55lbs last year, strictly diet based plan. I am now sitting at my fighting weight but I need to tone things up some. I have now started to walk hills and the plan is to be working out 3 days a week, every week, before the end of the year. Oh, also trying to cut back on booze and speaker purchases but where’s the fun in that?

  21. R value is only that. How much a given thickness insulates in a laboratory measurement. In the real world the effect of foam insulation is more complicated. Because it seals all the leaks in the building envelope if applied correctly. I've lived in a fiberglass bat insulated home and a now a foam insulated home. The difference is night and day. Of course you knew all this already.

  22. You seem hung up on beginners. Why do you think you are qualified to determine what beginners should do? There is a difference between having a conversation about things you have done and why, and holding yourself out as a Guru to be followed with all other opinions discarded unless they agree with you. Your experience as far as I can tell is limited at best.

  23. The only way you will know if the cables work in your system is to try them in your system and evaluate the sonic results with your own ears. I have listened to very expensive interconnects and speaker cables, cheap interconnects and speaker cables and everything in between. To my ears, in my preferred systems, I have found that the very reasonably priced Belden 8402 (shielded 2-conductor) with Switchcraft RCAs and Canare L5-CFB (75 ohm coaxial) with Canare RCAs interconnects and Dueland 12ga speaker wire work great with my SE amps and HE speakers based systems. All use tinned conductors. This combination has outperformed some very high priced stuff in my systems. It also sounds much more like music than the cheap generic stuff. This is just my opinion and YMMV.

  24. A transmission line isn't a transmission line until it is at least 1/4 wavelength long. One-quarter wavelength at 20 kHz is 3.75 kilometers. As long as your interconnects are shorter than that, the concept of characteristic impedance doesn't apply.

  29. There's a 79 page thread in General that is tailor made to your question. I'll give you the cliff notes, they all sound the same, pick the one with the most gee gaws....... Seriously though, the right one is the one that makes you want to tap your toe and listen to more music. But looking into my crystal ball I will say it will be either the Prima Luna or the Cary. Maybe the Mac. I will say that my experience with a Cary SLI-80, an SLP-98 and a pair of Six Pack monos has shown the house sound to be warm and pleasing, but with not much jump factor or resolution. YMMV Shakey

  30. To add, the Fortes are one inch wider than Heresy, same depth, maybe less since they don't lean back. I hadn't heard Klipsch home speakers for ~40 years and don't even remember how I came to investigate the Forte. They are exactly what I anticipated (horns, high efficiency, more-controlled directivity) and sound phenomenal. Top to bottom. I've had them now for a little over a month, thereabouts.

  31. Hi Spencer, welcome to the Klipsch forum! I have several comments. First of all your equipment choices are excellent, you have really done your research starting with the L/C/R. The Denon brand is known to work well with Klipsch, although I don't own one, I have the Marantz 6011. I'd like to reserve judgement on your surrounds and Atmos speakers because I don't run that particular setup, I'm just not knowledgeable in Atmos. I think others could advise you better on that than me. Sub: You have chosen a single 12" sub. I have no problem with a single and I run a single in my living room but most people will suggest a pair. If you want more discussion on the pros and cons of dual subs let us know and several people will weigh in. I would suggest you start with a 15" sub as it moves 40% more air than a 12 inch, doesn't take up much more room and is not much more expensive. Amps: As for your amps I'm typing an @ and choosing teaman from the drop-down list @teaman so he will get a Notification. He has a lot of experience with external amps and Emotiva in particular. He can give you good advice in that area. FYI I have an Emotiva XPA-5 200 wpc but I am not an authority, just a user. Fireplace: Is that a working fireplace on the left? Just asking for further consideration of how the room space might best be used. TV: I see there is 16' from the front to the back wall but I couldn't tell how big your TV was. In general if you sit 10 feet from the TV a 65-70" is suggested. Here is the science. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-size/size-to-distance-relationship Saving Money: There is a Forum member who is also a Klipsch dealer who has a golden rep on this and other forums for his great prices and excellent service. He really knows how to ship speakers safely and I have bought from him. You seriously will not be able to find better prices anywhere, including internet pricing but you have to talk/email/PM directly with him. Cory is incredibly knowledgeable and will give you very straight forward advice that benefits you, not him. He has electronics as well as Klipsch gear, I suggest you get in touch with Cory and talk with him. You can save some money and get great advice, all the same time. Paging @MetropolisLakeOutfitters and his business partner Steve who is also a very active member here, @Scrappydue You guys might have to use email as I'm not sure Forum members with just a few posts can use the PM. If you send a notification they'll know to get in touch with you. Neither is pushy or intrusive at all so if you reach out to either, they will respond. -Dave

  34. I was out in my shop today and this weird little dude showed up. He had a pointed hat with stars and moons on it and spoke a little strangely. So I let him ramble on for a bit and this thing appeared on my vice. Funny how wood cuts. This Walnut is a charm and I can't get a single Red Oak one to cut without some splintering. I think the answer will be a down cutting end mill and not an up cutting if I can find one. These flanges where the screws to cabinet go are thicker than the aluminum ones and the tapped holes are a bit deeper for additional pull out strength. All in all I am very pleased with these and will be making them starting tomorrow.
