  4. Going through some that I replaced recently. Hearing music you've known but only heard from the same lp for a long time, like through miles and miles of playback some surface noise and a few pops. Then landing a deal on half speeds like I did a month ago. It's like a new world with it all being better. Invisible Sun is very good on this copy!

  5. Boy these Super's that Claude created sure sound sweet. Even at 105-108db, clean clear and just very dynamic and just the right amount of low bass to me. My hats off to him. Using the MAHL with the BC120, K55m. Here's a few artist to try at 100db if you haven't yet. The Judds greatest hits-why not me and love is alive. Not big on country, but I like this disc. Another would be Queen-bicycle race and body language are good at high volume. America greatest hits is another. Sandman and I need you are good at spirited levels as well. Just enjoying my newly reveneered Super's today. Have a nice day.

  13. I'm in the UK. That's why it's nice to be on a US forum, throw a question oout there late at night and wake up to a barage of replies in the morning! To address some of the answers: Jubilees - Too big and frankly somewhat fuggly. That goes double for the PA speaker. Sorry, but the Fortes and Cornwalls tick my aesthetic boxes. Interesting comment on the Hereseys plus sub(s) as I currently run the Arendal Monitors with an Arendal Sub 1, the latter being the only bit to enjoy EQ. I get the benefits of EQ'd bass, prefering to choose the right speakers for the space and bass manage them. One Sub 1 (14" driver, 500W RMS ,1kW peak) is a bit light for my taste, especially as I can now run stereo EQ'd subs. However, I don't want stands and if I bought Hereseys; would always be left wondering what if.... Alas, beyond Hereseys, it's nigh on impossible to find pre-loved Klipsch over here, nevermind MkIs and IIs of anything. I'm pretty sure that the F3s are the right choice for the space, given that they offer up more latitude for positioning and in the last day or so, a potential bargain has transpired. A Klipsch dealer has a pair of Walnut F3s, one of which was dropped by a courier. The plinth is smashed and a top corner dented. The plinth is being replaced and as I know a good cabinet maker, repair of the corner and even a wholsale re-veneer is possible - Why couldn't they have dropped an oak pair with the lambs wool grill?!?!? At a maximum of £2.5k (saving £1,5k) I think they're probably a shoe in, if I like them on demo. I've also found a pair of Quad II Eighties, boxed and immaculate for £3k, plus said dealer not only does Anthem and Quad, but also has Icon Audio MB90 MkIIs on demo- they would seem a potentially perfect match given the mode switching. For those not familiar with Anthem ARC, you can limit the maximum frequency EQ is applied to and in the varoius incarnations I've owed and reviewed it in, I've never felt compelled to use it above 300Hz and more usually 150Hz. An STR Pre with the Sabre DACs and all the digital inputs I require is looking attractive. Apparently, the phono stage is more than competant too, he says looking a 200 LPs in storage. I wouldn't say budget isn't important (why spend more if you can spend less?) but I do have an opportunity to drop £10k on a wholesale system revamp, if what I hear for each component impresses. With my history of DIY speaker and subwoofer building, plus involvement in the Arendals, I will go speaker first and get that right. I will use the demo opportunity to listen to some valves (tubes) and if it really floats my boat, try and screw a deal out of the dealer. The pre can can wait, because the M-Dac+ has some of the best digital filters at any price. Thanks for the input and if there's anything else you'd like to thow out there as a thought, I'm all ears! 14. Hello all! I just wanted to drop in and quickly brag on Bob Crites and his crossovers and diaphragms for the tweeters. The last 36 hours have been a roller coaster with dumb events like having one un- removable screw from the front of a woofer in one of my Heresy II’s, to having to de-solder when I never even knew how to solder, solder! I just wanted to report that I was able to complete this project of changing out the crossovers and installing the diaphragms in the tweeters with the excellent help of Bob Crites. I probably emailed him about 100 times with pictures and to check in on various little items and he was more than helpful and attentive and responded immediately in every instance. Even approved of me completing one speaker without removal of that woofer since I could find no answer on how to get it out. And he had never seen a screw like that before. Anyway, this novice at all of the above, is now relaxing and listening to her quad through what sounds like La Scala’s in the rears! Well, sort of - La Scala’s are still boss in my system. I was referring to the Heresy’s, by the way. I have La Scala’s in the front. The sound from the Heresy’s has come to life! It sounded okay before, but somewhat dark and lifeless (especially compared to now) and I accepted it since they were the rears. But now I do not have to accept it. Now I get to hear even better quad sound, truly wonderful sound. The only bad thing is that I got so excited I have now ordered new speaker wire for the rears and new RCA cabling for all of the quad equipment in order to enjoy my system to the fullest! So another project is lining up! I highly recommend Bob if you are ever in need of any of his products. The customer service is unheard of in this day and age and I am grateful for it. Just thought I would pop in and share! Thanks. Laura

  16. I agree arrto, but I’m not trying to get ostracized by the vinyl freaks. 😊 I agree that vinyl is engaging, but I play it just long enough to rip it to a digital file, never to be touched by me again. I knew Einstein said that, or did I only imagine it?

  17. I also have to say that Bob was extremely helpful and very prompt at answering all of my emails as well. He must spend about 25 hours a day answering emails from all of us. Even on weekends when he should be off doing something else, he answers emails . The guy is amazing.

  18. I spent 25 years working in the machine end of bowling alleys. If you had 2 people back there, you needed to flash the lights to get their attention. >>> or be able to whistle loud enough for the folk bowling to hear... the mechanic at the other end of the machines might hear ya. My senses are pretty acute. Even after I have abused them so... Excepting when folks ask if I have any sense .... Uh... NO got rid of that along with all the "busy" I have been keeping

  22. On wheels today. Overdid it yesterday. Neighbors are just gonna have to put up with the stereo. A friend came over the other day. I didn't realize how loud it was until we went outside and still couldn't hear him... I am still getting the "Was the live or memorex?"... looking out the window for stuff on the recordings.

  23. That's what it seems - the more I look into, it's something that can be done in 15 minutes or so. I'm just leery because of how delicate the diaphragm is. I appreciate the feedback, though. Glad it's really easy. I'm really enjoying the KLF-30s. Unfortunately I don't have a big room (roughly 11'6" by 14'), but I think now they're about a foot away from the wall... and the position isn't permanent yet. I'll play with that as well as toe-in, since now they're at around a 25 degree angle (Dolby guidelines say 22-30). Hi Tim. I'm using an older Integra receiver, THX certified and all that stuff. Supposedly it puts out a solid 100w/channel, but I do plan to have a separate amp for my front three. I used to have an Emotiva amp and it was good. Considering these KLF-30 have a sensitivity of 102 dB/w/m, at least on paper, I haven't felt like I need more... at least for now. I'm sorry, did you say eight?! That's awesome! Part of me would like to move them into our living room for a 2-channel setup, but I have my Heresies there now. No worries, Billy. Just thought about you since you're local, but I'm likely overthinking this.

  24. Cool O Rama Billybob ! the glory days of Haystacks and Dick The Bruiser !! Back to Jeff Medwin, that 2 watt amp he built uses a 6005 output tube - those can be found for $2 each (sans shipping) - that sounds a hellva lot more sensible than $695 for a "born again" Western Electric 300B made in the "USA".

  27. As I commented to someone else, Jubilees can be put behind acoustically transparent fabric, e.g., a cloth wall at the end of the room, instead of grille cloth. I first saw such a wall in an old High Fidelity magazine with JBL Hartsfields behind it. I've seen a few since. Or, the wall can be grille cloth. Also, I believe Klipsch sells this one (?) Both the Palladium and the RF7 III have direct radiators for bass. The Jubilee has horn loaded bass (is fully horn loaded) and would be expected to have tighter bass, with less excursion, lower modulation distortion, and probably be more dynamic, wouldn't it?

  28. Yes I time align using a EV DC-One DSP. This allows the ability to hear and optimize the time alignment without interference issues caused when physical alignment of drivers are varied. Jeff I have built and owned many 2A3 amplifiers since about 1990 and consider well designed ones as some of my favorite amplifiers to use within their limitations. These are in my collection currently: Cary CAD2A3i P/P (modified) used on Jub LF with Cary CAD 2A3 SE mono blocs (modified) are used on the on the K402/TAD TD4002 HF when I want to play with Tubes on the Jubs. By the way this older picture also shows First Watt F3 amplifiers (single ended/ single gain stage) in a vertical bi-amp implementation with the Jubilee and they are also excellent IMHO and rival the 2A3 amplifiers I own. Currently I'm using McIntosh MHA100 amplifiers in vertical bi-amp configuration on the Jubs and again IMHO are every bit equal rivals to the other amplifiers I own when used with my Jubs. miketn

  29. LOL! "No matter what the vendor tells you, ............" I wonder if we can get him to test the orientation of the outer foil in capacitors? Bwwaaaahh Haa Haa!!!

  30. They are 1979 or older with the K-77 tweeters. The heavy wire (monster?) is a mod. You *may* need to replace the caps in the crossover at that age.

  32. Whether the KV3 will stay or be swapped is still a question. Haven’t been able to watch a movie, but listening to music and just enjoying the KLF30s. I should have more time over the weekend, so I’m pretty excited!

  33. Today I was listening to some vinyl records (U2, Songs of Experience). By chance, a light beam fell upon the vinyl and was reflected upon the wooden wall behind the turntable. The result was an enlarged image of the imperfect rotation of the vinyl record, and I found it quite spectacular. The miracle is, of course, that the sound that the turntable produces, is unaffected. (In this case, a newly acquired Pro-Ject Essential III, George Harrison special edition with a standard Ortofon OM10 needle). This 'old' technology is at the top of its game, really, and even this entry level audiophile turntable easily works around substantial torque, push and pull, as can be seen in the video.

  40. Wyred DAC finally came in... This thing sounds really good, even in comparrison to the dac2dsdse it replaced... its just in a completely different class. Best thing, wyred4sound gave me 90% of the initial purchase of the dac2dsdse against this 10th anniversary dac. Outstand W4S!

  42. Locally the public health statistics indicate that this flu hits those under 5 and older than 50 the worst. As others note you go to hell in a hand basket in a matter of hours with this bug. I never smoked and was coughing up heavily bloodied mucous within 10 hours. I slept hard for nearly 48 straight hours then spent the next 2 days awake just to make certain I could mechanically breathe. It was pretty rough. If not for my stash of drugs and knowing which to employ I’d have been in dire trouble. Lost 12 pounds in a week. Feeling much better now but still very wary - the lungs are twitchy and our weathers been quite cold/snowy. It is a life altering episode and I hope to not have additional complications. I am reminded of the Japanese whom are often seen wearing surgical masks whenever in public. Seemed a bit paranoid before - not so much now.

  45. No, they aren't mine. I thought that placing found items in the Alerts sub folder already implied that fact. Things you have found during your internet travels are posted here. If I put a listing directly in Garage Sale, it has the implication that the items are for sale by me. I would not be selling a set of Belles. I would be selling off things to BUY the set. Anyone need a wife? Low mileage!
