  2. I haven't heard Jubes, just to get that out of the way. But I have heard and owned some speakers that are considered main stream high end. Heard: Wilson Grand Slamms Genesis (can't remember the model, huge with outboard subs) MBL 101 Von Schweikert VR9 Quad 989 Of the above, the stand outs for me were the Genesis and the MBL. The others had some enjoyable traits, but didn't present the whole package like those two. I won't post the entire list that I have owned, due to time and space constraints. But here are some of the more well known speakers. Owned: Wilson Sophia (these didn't hang around long) Magnepan 3.5r PBN Montana EPS 2 and SP2 (of these two I especially liked the smaller SP2) Green Mountain Audio Continuum 3 HD (time and phase coherent) Piega P10 Von Schweikert VR4 Silver Von Schweikert VR4 HSE II Of the above I hold a special place for the VR4 since it was my first foray into the "higher end" of speakers. Kept them for over 3 years which is somewhat of a record for me. I also liked very much the Piegas and Continuum 3s. All that said, I think Klipsch Heritage speakers need not apologize for their performance when compared to some of the best out there. My Forte IIIs were as good as some and better than many mentioned above. And my Khorns even more so. I can only imagine that Jubilees would close any gap quite handily. As always, it is about what you listen for and your preference for the presentation. There will always be some out there that choose a Wilson over Klipsch products. Completely different approach to music reproduction IMHO. One is not right and the other wrong. Shakey

  3. They are much easier to find. Have had the KG-4's a really nice speaker with plenty of bass for a 2 way. A nice pair of 5.5's, same again, and had a bit of seller's remorse. The forte' pair that I had of course a 3 way I really enjoyed having for awhile, and a well balanced speaker for sound reproduction. Listened to a nice pair of Forte II which were even more dynamic than the I's to my ears. So yes, while there are some great KG speakers, the 3 way in the right condition, meaning stock for the most part, may well be the flavor you are looking for. Just a couple or more years ago, you could find forte's or the II's for around $400 generally. Now if you can find a decent set of either, around $500 or more is more realistic. Exceptions appear from time to time depending on location, condition, as well as timing. While deals can be found elsewhere, have found local craigslist usually yield the better deal, in general. At least for me. Forum members knowing your location, may give you a heads up, when they see a pair. Good hunting and be ready to pounce, and depending, travel. Welcome to the forum...

  7. This is a nearly perfect Marantz Model 1060 integrated amp with black faceplate. I think the black is a fantastic look because it really sets the knobs off against the background. It had a complete restoration with high quality components, here is the rundown - Installed Panasonic FC 105C rated capacitors on power supply board Removed glue residue from power supply board Installed CDE Quencharc snubber capacitor on power switch to prevent arcing Upgraded filter capacitor to Nichicon Gold Tune 10000uF/80V, installed film bypass capacitor Upgraded coupling capacitors to Mundorf M-Lytic 4700uF for enhanced bass response Installed WIMA film and Elna Silmic II capacitors on preamp board Upgraded preamp board local filter from 100uF to 220uF Nichicon Fine Gold Installed gain matched OnSemi KSA992/KSC1845 transistors on preamp board Upgraded phono board local filter from 100uF to 220uF Installed Nichicon Muse and WIMA film capacitors on phono board Replaced unreliable 2SC458 transistors on phono board with gain matched KSC1845 Installed Nichicon Muse capacitors on amplifer board Upgraded input coupling capacitors to WIMA film types Replaced small signal transistors on amplifier with OnSemi KSA733C/KSC945C Replaced varistors with 1N4148 diodes Set bias and clipping to factory specifications 39 capacitors, 16 transistors, 2 diodes, 1 snubber capacitor replaced This amplifier sounds great, and performed well on bench testing. All functions and inputs are working correctly. The 1060 is a legend in the Marantz lineup for good reason, it is a warm and enjoyable sounding amp. It's very well built, easy to service, and loaded with features. The 1060 is a capacitor coupled design, so expect a "thump" from your speakers when powering the unit on. The top cover has a nice satin black powdercoat. It comes with a reproduction WC-10 case in walnut. It is beautiful and best of all, doesn't smell like smoke that many of the the old ones suffer from. You would be hard pressed to ever find one this nice. I ship with Fedex ground and it will be very, very well packed for shipping. This is a very heavy piece with the cabinet. I'm guessing at 40lbs. Ships to CONUS only. All sales final with no returns. This one was completely rebuilt by Jailtime on AudioKarma site. He is a long time rebuilder and knows his stuff. Thanks so much. Please consider the case alone was over $180. Labor and parts $250. Price is $750 plus $50 flat rate Fedex with insurance to Conus. Local pickup zip 62690.

  12. The only thing I can report on this is I prefer the performance of the jubilee to my friend’s dunlavy sc-IV and sound labs. Much prefer them over my khorns. My uncle has Martin Logan CLX Art and is a huge electrostat guy. He came over to demo my jubes and we spent a whole evening. He said he actually preferred my setup over his. This might be because he is more of an old school rocker and the jubes and large horn loaded sub present so much energy and impact without effort. I haven’t had a chance to listen to his setup so I really can’t claim this demo as first hand info.

  15. Medwin is is the master of hurling veiled insults at anyone and everyone who does not agree with his nonsense.. the following are from just one post... "It is common knowledge that film caps sound different ( in a GOOD system ) depending upon their orientation. Any good audiophile knows this. " Medwin says... see you are all not a "good audiophile" then there are the direct insults... "If Dean wants to be "for hire", charge people to make crossovers, and be oblivious to this, AND use tie wraps around film cap bodies to disturb their fields, be my guest in having that to listen through that. You obtain what you deserve. But there IS a better way" not sure how many customers Dean or BEC or ALK have, or those who have DIY xo's like them but this one goes for all of you... What I post herein, honestly, WORKS on my system,. Your use and reliance of " logic, science & mathematical facts " leads you to mediocre results for audio playback in your home. If you can't see it, or won't accept my reports at face value, there is no way I can help you !!" as 99.9% of people will NOT follow his absurdity, he states emphatically to all we have mediocre audio systems... this moron does not go away.. he is like gum or dog crap on your shoe...

  21. Jeffery, Some of the things you make claim do in fact exist and are real – BUT and here is the big BUT - they only apply in theory at the frequency range of the (perfect) human ear of 20-20k Hz. You, our favored Jeffry, are showing more and more how far you are out of touch with reality. Isn't it funny that without this 'nonsense of logic, science and mathematics' that the entire electronics industry would have never been born in the first place. I should add, there is nothing wrong with thinking out side of the box - but you still have to understand where the box is.

  23. Of course I was at those get togethers in Roy's lab and sort of became the Jub villain among us. As just about everyone except me bought Jubs...........I went and bought MWM cabinets. It hasn't been mentioned yet here that Roy also did the same test with Jub vs. MWM and I always felt the MWM sounded much better. This was in 2007 I believe. I hunted all over to find some MWMs and started with 2-way, then 3-way and eventually 4-way. I only got jubs two years ago and have tossed thousands at them in an attempt to get them to sound as good as the MCM setup. The plan was to have the Jubs replace the MCM, and me get back some real estate in my room and cash out of the big MCM and multi-amp setup. The plan failed. The Jubs have their good points but just come up short compared to my MCM. I still love and enjoy them for the great sounding speakers they are, but they will simply never replace my MCM. I could see myself selling the Jubs but not the MCM. Not too many folks making posts like this!!! The truth!!!

  25. I actually feel good this AM. Might have something to do with not needing a fire last night. That will last one day. But, it's a start. Won't be, but, a couple weeks before we can get by with a "flash fire" [a couple gallon of twigs] in the AM to take the edge off. Yesterday's coffee even tastes OK. Going to GreenValley today. Shouldn't get into too much trouble at the hardware store. It's the grocery that I have trouble...and I need to go there, also The more I read, the more I like my "budget" stereo. Lots of folk spend many more $$$ for similar performance. Can't help wonder how much it would cost for an appreciably better amp .... and would I be able to tell the dif, beside my wallet being thinner. Just curious. Not really considering spending. What I have is better than what I imagined... especially for the money I spent. $1500 is nothing, compared to what most of you have wrapped up in gear.

  27. It was more of a curiousity than anything for our experienced listeners. I’ve never seen much chatter about it. For the most part you seem to have the people that have jube experience that haven’t had a chance to compare them to other highly regarded speakers. Then you have the people that haven’t heard jubes that assume they sound like big PA speakers. Just an observation.

  31. If you're wondering why some tweeters and squawkers are wired out of phase it's because some crossover components cause a phase shift and it's corrected by changing the polarity of the wiring at the drivers.

  33. I’m worried. Most of the same “experts” in The Detroit News and The Detroit Free Press, who incorrectly predicted a U of M victory in Ann Arbor now, for the most part, predict a Spartan victory Saturday in East Lansing. It makes me uncomfortable when the “experts” pick Sparty. I much prefer underdog status.

  42. I have had the opportunity to hear several "megabuck" systems: *Avantgarde Trios driven by Audio Note Ongaku (liked) *Wilson X-1/Grand SLAMMs driven by big Levinson amps (not my cup of tea) *Full Levinson HQD system: stacked Quad ESL57s, Decca Ribbon tweeter, 24" Hartley on each side driven by 4 Levinson ML2s on each side (really liked) And several other similar high end systems. I've had Klipschorns, La Scalas, KG 4.5 and Belles, still have the Belles. Have also listened to Fortes at length in a friend's system. I've never had the opportunity to listen to the Jubilees, something I need to rectify. It is my opinion that most of the stratospheric "megabuck" systems will not work that well in the "real world" rooms most of us share with our families. Just my opinion.
