  1. Nice, I get it. Looks somewhat familiar. Yes they do, our wives must be related. All I need is a tweeter to join. We just like the sound of the MWM bass bin. It's crazy but people have come here and asked why there was nothing on the shelves, they didn't know they were speakers and never even noticed the 402 horns until I told them these are the top half. How can you miss a 402?

  5. Just got Neil Young’s Live at Massey Hall 1971. Incredible sounding album. Having been to Massey Hall many times I can tell you that is a special place to hear a musician.

  7. @M_Klipsch the first thing my wife said we I got home was : Wow they are ugly. The second thing: they are big! I am sure the black matt paint wasn’t helping either. Well the sanding is going fine, and the walnut veneer is in pretty good shape. Just a bit of patina. it gives the speakers a bit of personality. am working in the garage/paint studio so the house is safe. And am wearing a dust mask. The veneer is pretty dull now, but am planning on using some oil and lacquer as a finishing touch. Haven't made up my mind on what oil to use though. I want the texture of the walnut to really pop, and don't mind it the veneer gets darkened a bit. Did also the leak test and sealed the inside while at it.. fixed a couple of gaps here and there. The caps were not the only thing in the shopping cart. There is some Damping egg crate foam to, Super Heresy style. when the caps get here I’ll get to work on the crossovers. @MC39693 thanks, I like it here! have been browsing the Crites site, and am well aware of Claude's work on the Heresy. Amazing effort. I really wan to focus on getting the speakers up and running with minimal changes, and then venture down the upgrade path. I will make a new back panel and install better terminal cups. this way I am "port ready" as I don't want to cut in the original back piece.

  8. Abraxas is a great record, but instead of fixing your tape deck, it might be simpler and much less expensive to look for an LP or CD, new or used. That's a pretty popular recording, so there should be quite a few used copies available. I've seen new "Santana" LPs, the one with the drawing of the lion and the hidden women, so there should also be new Abraxas LPs available. With new CDs, there's the loudness war issue, so it's hard to know which would sound better, an old CD with so-so recording, or a re-mastered "turned up to 11" CD. Anyway, the hunt can be half the fun.

  13. --Edit 04/16/19: The LaScalas have been sold. --Edit: LSBL, consecutive serial numbers 31Y9xx with AL crossovers. Y in the serial number makes them 1983, as does the AL xover I believe. --Edit2: Klipsch light-up sign has been sold. Southeast Massachusetts. $1750/obo face to face, cash. Downsizing my audio habit, selling more speakers. Up for sale are my La Scalas. Circa 1982, if memory serves. They were home theater speakers for the original owner back when that meant 35mm projection! I am the second owner. The first had glass tops fitted and the glass tops have been on since day one. Original crossovers and components, never overdriven. I'll have them upstairs and connected for demo soon.

  17. Auburn is workin hard and ballin. Tenn??? Well not so much! I wouldn't worry about odds on the Sparty game Diz... Whoever wants to win and the team that can keep their cool down the stretch should prevail. izzo will be totally into the game and keep 'em on a short leash. Blue on the other hand will be going for the throat I think. Kinda like that "Revenge Tour" thingy! Oh yea, whoever has the most points at the end comes into play. Lace 'em up tight when ya bet that other guy for your shoes/jersey! 😂 😂

  19. Hey it's about 150 or more that I don't have access to that I'm jonesin' for besides that one! This deck is a helluva performer too - balanced in & outs! LPs just aren't $4.99 to $9.99 anymore (arrrgh! smiley here).

  21. Abraxas is one of the LPs I consider to be in the "Timeless" genre! Anybody know where I could get an old Yamaha C-300 Pro cassette deck fixed? I have searched and called several places here in the USA. W&F attack sound quality is still there, just the whacky reverb from the w&f. My copy of this is on a cassette.

  31. So i was able to get them all in late last night. Crazy Heavy. This morning I had them set up for an initial testing. made a few adjustments. Different sound with that big Bass Horn. More and deeper base, no subs connected yet. Initial thoughts are this is going to be a game changer. For now, I have my 402/510 set up with the MWM's. I have a set of 402's that I bought and never set up about 4 years ago. I also have a contingent of different drivers as well. K69's, 1133's and 1132's. These may end up being a two way's yet. I just don't know. I just need to more time with them to see. I honestly don't know what I am going to do with the Jubilee Bins yet. I guess its a good problem to have. They are a lot larger when you get them in your room, that's for sure. But thumbs up wife said they looked good!!! its a cleaner look that what I had before. Back to work, I have a mess of speakers to get cleaned up. F20, old centre, jubilee bins, and some tunes to play. First world problems... I heard about those comparisons with MWM's, and Jubilee's. I get it now. My centre channel is not set up yet, need more gear for that...

  32. Before we got married, I told the wife that I did not consider myself a good role model for her boys. She married me anyway. Should have been a sign... she does not have good judgement lol whooped up on some of the spring growth... before it change to fire hazard in a month or two.. my back is loving me. Swinging the tool isn't so bad, until you hit something stationary. WANG!

  33. It is hard for me to fathom that too, I will agree my copy of four isn't perfection. But my Houses of the Holy, Presence, and the antithetical brown bagged LP sound pretty good, So did Physical Graffiti. But from the same era Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Blvd. an original pressing I have makes an unbelievable soundstage with excellence in every aspect of the sound in this 12 X 12 room with the full sized slab of latex between the Forte IIIs, wool on the floor, and a dresser in the way !!

  35. A friend worked at Karma records, he would get me any ticket I wanted, or could afford. I was 14 when I first saw Queen in1977, same year I saw Led Zeppelin. His store would host a lot of bands promoting their new album, or even new bands promoting themselves. I remember once seeing a band I've never heard of in his record store playing acoustic music, they sounded very good....it was Supertramp. I immediately bought their album! I drank a few beers with another new band in there promoting their album, Van Halen.

  40. Obviously, the goal of a speaker is to piss people off.
    1 point
  41. Um, I'd look carefully at the low frequency response of the FH-1 before going that direction. If you're like me, that last octave of missing bass performance is a big one, and shifting the burden to subwoofers is a bit problematic, especially if you're thinking about using direct radiating subs to make up the difference. I really don't recommend that if clean sound is your goal--unless you're using really good horn-loaded subs. I'd actually recommend staying the course with Khorns but go with K-402s instead. Much bigger bang/buck...albeit at about a $1K-$2K higher dollar threshold. To me, it's well worth it to save a little while for the purchase. (You can do it on layaway: just open a new bank account and layaway the money for a little while. You'll get there much sooner than you think...if you're motivated). A related story: I worked with an interesting guy in the 80's who was a field technologist for the geophysical exploration equipment company we both worked for, his job installing and servicing large airgun arrays on the company's "green weenie" geophysical boats. He had three pairs of jeans and five shirts--all of the same fatigue green work shirt design and all the jeans had holes in the knees, and he brought his lunch to work every day. He was the sole breadwinner for his family with two very young daughters. One day he walked in with the biggest grin you ever saw and waited for someone to ask him about it. "I bought a plane yesterday...a 1951 Cessna 170 tail-dragger." [Get it now?] I thereafter flew in that plane with him to take pictures of the devastation on Galveston bay (Houston Yacht Club and the Galveston gulf waterfront) after a hurricane blew through area and had the time of my life--as in I saw it flash in front of my eyes when he put it into kick stall spin for the first time 🤢. That plane wound up faster than a provoked badger in his burrow. My camera lens case never moved from the back seat floorboard: it was pinned there--like we were, looking straight at a small point on the ground...turning rapidly. Phil had a big grin on his face the whole time, albeit with slightly bigger eyes. When I finally got out of the plane after an interesting extended slow stalling flight over high voltage electric lines in order to make it down to the landing field without overshooting while landing to the south...I didn't ask him for another ride. 😬 His piloting story was that he flew everywhere in South America since being a young teen, being the son of bible-translating missionaries. It also turns out that he was cross-eyed. The FAA almost took away his license when he jokingly admitted that little known fact to the check-ride pilot after he passed all his check-ride tests. Chris (...still glad to be here...)
