  1. I wrote to Mr. Rogers in 1972 or 73 and he wrote back. I have the postcard that was typed and signed. He specifically mentioned what I sent him. It wasn’t just a form letter. I later read that he personally replied to all of his fan mail. I’ll have to post a photo of it.

  2. This is an excellent grinder. I use it for all different grind types. https://www.amazon.com/Baratza-Encore-Conical-Coffee-Grinder/dp/B007F183LK/ref=sr_1_1?hvadid=176950559405&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9016254&hvnetw=g&hvpos=1t1&hvqmt=e&hvrand=10776542994880934684&hvtargid=kwd-43523077061&keywords=baratza+encore&qid=1553964483&s=gateway&sr=8-1

  3. Okay so this will be kinda long winded but here goes. I have been putting my system together a piece at a time over the last 3 months or so. Picked up these items in order Denon avrx4400h New SVS pb13 Ultra Lightly used 3 yrs warranty left Emotiva XPA3 Gen3 Lightly used 3 yrs warranty l Pair of Klipsch RF7iii's New A stock Klipsch rc64iii New A stock Sony X700 4k blu ray New Got the Sony probably 2 weeks ago and have been dying to hook it up and give it a listen. But I wanted to make sure I had some sort of surge protection before I did so. I researched as much as I could and came up with the Panamax m5300pm as the piece I was gonna buy. On my lunch today I went to Best Buy to pick up the Panamax that I was expecting to pay $479.99 for on sale. I get there and they have it for $431.99 I was thinking to my self amazing I just saved $50. After a pretty decent wait and no help I went looking for someone outside of the Magnolia center. I found a kid and continued to ask some more comparison questions between the 5400,5300,and 5100 models. Still came up with the conclusion that the 5300 is the way to go. The guy takes me to have someone in n the Magnolia center to check inventory and wonderful they are out😡😡😡😡😡. The guy says you can drive to another store across town and pick it up but I literally have zero time besides my lunch break which was pretty much over between now and Tuesday morning when we leave for Hawaii. And of course I am itching very badly to get this system hooked up. I start looking again at the 5100 and 5400 which the 5100 does not have what I want and the 5400 is $168 more on sale also for $599.99 instead of $799.99 regular price. Now I am getting kinda agitated which the guy can see. I explain the whole time crunch thing and so I asked him is there anything we can do price wise on the 5400. The employee says let me see what I can do I will go ask my manager. He comes back with well good news I told him your scenario and he said he would do the 5400 for $500 for you. I was like well hell I came here and was planning on spending $480 anyways so an extra $20 heck yes I will do that. So long story ends in I will finally get too set up my system this weekend. Sorry for the very long story but wanted to give a big shout out to the Best Buy here in Park Meadows in Lone Tree Colorado. Now I need to get my basement finished so I can get the rear and side speakers purchased.

  4. === thumbing through AGon on a boring Saturday I find High Fidelity Cable advertising their mono blocks at $120K retail. And with $120K burning a hole in my pocket I read on to find what makes them so special. And I quote from their Magna Drive Transistor Treatment — “ Magna Drive uses a powerful magnetic field across the transistor to apply powerful lines of flux through the transistor. This helps to guide electrons at the quantum state and give them a more calculated pathway through the transistor. The result is lower noise, better resolution and greater dynamics”. What an idiot Ive been thinking Nelson Pass was innovative and produced great sounding gear - come on Pappa and Get With the Program

  5. I bought the Cuisinart burr grinder off of Amazon under someone's recommendation here. It has worked well. It can dial up pretty darn coarse to extra fine. https://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-DBM-8-Supreme-Grind-Automatic/dp/B00018RRRK/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=coffee+grinder&qid=1553961041&s=gateway&sr=8-4

  6. I've used mine with my drip maker, the immersion and a previous glass french press that broke under the counter. It has ten settings, stayed between 5 - 8 with most beans for drip - press. Thing about this one is the consistency of the grinds, and that the machine keeps on making the grinds the same as where you set it. Like any good machine should do! The last one I had tried to grind a pebble, I did stop it and it worked well for another couple of years. Used the same grinder for over ten years, though now on my second one. https://www.amazon.com/Bodum-Grinder-Electronic-Continuously-Adjustable/dp/B0043095WW/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=burr+grinder&qid=1553913230&refinements=p_89%3ABodum&rnid=2528832011&s=kitchen&sr=1-1 I can use the immersion with the metal mesh screen with it set at 7 without having sludge at the bottom of the mug. Electric & yea pricey to me but coffee is my vice now! The newer one isn't as noisy, only some static in the cool months. Gets almost fine enough for expresso or Turkish but not quite.

God bless the 🐖 oink. 1 rack each baby back and spares to wash down the pulled pork. Vinegar based home made sauce and slaw on top with small buns so you can have many.....just like N.C. does.

  11. We are in agreement on the veneer thing. How about this as a strategy. Perhaps the OP is interested in getting the cabinets to match or complement some existing furniture or woodwork in his home. Might this be an opportunity (excuse) to splurge say "why not". Rather than getting the cabinets back to their original appearance, choose your favorite veneer and finish. Then get a talented friend or cabinet shop to do them the way you like. There, I have just spent a couple of hundred of the OP's money. Seriously that might be a good idea, however. BTW, Dave I envy you having a full woodworking shop.

  18. It absolutely does. What if I was to tell you I am using no EQ on the sub and no HPF (shhh don't tell John from GSG that part). It has all the headroom I need, even if I want to get ridiculous occasionally.

  19. Thanks Dean! I can imagine! Yeah, if you have a commercial website, like a *.com website, many expect you to be able to deliver on orders almost instantly, and when you are a one human shop, that is NOT hardly ever gonna happen! I know, I have a website KutheChocolates.com trying to grow a small seasonal chocolates business! Because I make Christmas Candy every year for over 30 years and have gotten quite good at it! But like I said it's a SEASONAL business, The weather MUST BE COOL DRY, and very cold weather is best. John Kuthe...

  20. I highly recommend you build or have built a THTLP I’ve owned lost of subs and the effortless bass that these put out is unmatched IMO. I have a F-20 also and it performs real close to the THTLP so that would be my second choice. Well worth the effort and again unmatched cost/performance wise.

  23. This is a personal observation on the documentary movie Won't You Be My Neighbor--which chronicles the effect that Fred Rogers had on generations of young people--and perhaps why he has such a continuing effect on adults, too. While I watched this film on DVD, I became aware of how I felt about Fred Rogers' on-screen persona. On one hand, I felt that it was a bit more than "elementary" for adults--a common reaction of mine over the years when watching short clips from his show Mister Rogers Neighborhood. I wanted to do something other than watch the movie at that particular moment. On the other hand, it was a clear reminder of (or even a foil to) how it seems the world has changed in terms a general loss of civility and tolerance, to be replaced by something more vicious and intolerant. This perception seems to be prevalent on mass media--which itself nowadays seems to be a gigantic echo chamber of information cascades as James Surowiecki described in his book The Wisdom of Crowds. After thinking on it a little, what occurred to me was Fred Rogers' approach that was so surprisingly simple--and of course that which was telegraphed to his viewing audience--even though he broke all the rules of television presentation. It's so surprisingly simple that it's clearly taken for granted that this is the way that children should be raised, i.e., in a caring and protective environment safe for them and one which gives each of them a sense of personal identity and self-worth. But then it occurred to me what was happening: that multitudes of young people are not apparently receiving it consistently from any other source. Even those "decisionmakers" that were featured (i.e., the ones holding hearings to take away PBS funding) were left speechless when they listened to Rogers: you could see when they suddenly realized what they had overlooked--and so blatantly. We have a broken culture (in this regard)--apparently perceived as hostile by our youngest members...hostile to their own sense of who they are. That sense of special care and community protection that perhaps many of us experienced while young really has changed...and what generally became for all us "adults" as taken for granted, was replaced with that which has been described above. It's clearly pervasive in social media/news. How people tend to treat each other with civility and mutual regard--has changed. [Just drive down a well-traveled road or freeway nowadays, and watch how people treat each other.] The end of the show (which I'll not reveal here) is a testimonial to how profoundly our culture has changed. This is the part that keeps me thinking about the show. For us adults, I think we tend to think of the world in terms of how we experienced it growing up, and perhaps not how it appears to the young today. This was the silent bombshell that I think was planted by the director/screenwriters in this documentary, ostensibly on the life of Fred Rogers. It think it hits the viewers squarely on a subject other than the life of just one person. Highly recommended: there's something here to see. Chris

  27. Correct again, good King Friday! I haven't seen the documentary. I have watched the PBS commercial on this many times. And many times with tears in my eyes over the profound understanding by this man of our little ones. I watched Mr. Roger's with my son when he was a child. And now my beautiful grandaughter is just SO enamored with Daniel Tiger. I was surprised and elated to see that during the years that I did not watch, the great Mister Roger's Neighborhood morphed that little trolley into Daniel's life of friends, learning and good deeds. I will watch with my family as many times as opportunity allows. It never fails to make me feel very, very good.

  28. I sold my 1978 LS in the exact same shape for $1400. FYI Klipsch tends to sell even higher in CA than in other areas of the country in the neighborhood of 20% higher. If you procrastinate those LS will be gone, fast! Ask me how I know. You do not need to put these speakers in a corner. The corner horns are Klipschorns, or Khorns. The LS will fill your large area better than anything else you will find.

  30. If I hadn't picked up a pair of less pristine Forte III, I likely would have picked these up. If there is anyone on the fence in the Chicago area, I have Forte, Forte II, and Forte III. If you need a comparison before driving to pick these up. I haven't gotten a lot of listening time in on the Forte III. Very punchy bass and a worthy successor to the excellent Forte and Forte II family.

  33. From experience, don't use F&F. However, you can still get screwed. The buyer can always open a case. Take lots of pictures and a video or 2 if you can. Photograph the packing process. Be overly descriptive. Get the buyer to say in writing they understand and agree. Keep all your records organized. Good luck.

  36. I say yes. The RB-51iis are decent for their size but the 61IIs punch way above their weight class. Also with the RB-61iis being front ported, placement flexibility is a bonus. I also think their will be potential for a smoother hand off from speakers to subwoofer. Bill

  37. I have owned them all, including Tapped Horns. My vote is the F-20 or the Tuba HT Low Profile.
    1 point
  38. It all depends on what you want. I'll speak in generalities. The chest thump from gun shots is generally in the 50 to 70 Hz range. Couch vibrations are in the low 20's and below. Horn subs play the cleanest but are huge and normally go low 20's without room gain. Big ported subs can certainly go lower and loud but not as clean. Many people use these if they're mostly used for HT. Horns when mostly music. Again, these aren't absolutes rather rules of thumb and there are certainly exceptions.

  43. I had an RC-52 with RF-52II . I currently have a RC-62 II with another system. The 62 is a fuller sound, one of the hidden gems of Klipsch. I just looked, and there are new ones out there. Search for “Klipsch RC-62 II” on amazon and eBay. $250-285. They’ve been discontinued, but there are new one out there. I bought mine from Fry’s about 8 months ago.
