  2. Don't want to crap this thread too much..... Where to obtain is in first post. You still need to be close to corners for max bass capabilities just not perfect fit into corner like the KHorn. Some pics of my setup:

  3. I got some more KLIPSCHHHHHH RP-160M going to be pulling front height duty for atmos/dts/auro3d content. I needed a replacement pair of bookshelves for this location when I discovered a bad driver in my old pair. I made a few calls, got a few leads for the RP-600M, but one look at Craigslist is all it took to get these guys. Funny story goes with this purchase. So I call phone number on the CL ad and the guy says come get em'. I say, I am going to the baseball stadium tonight to watch a game, so can you meet me somewhere to make the trip reasonable for me. 150 miles between us. He says sure and we set up to meet in a parking lot, where I drive to and wait. So this guy shows up, and he ends up being the same dude I just sold my Klipsch Academy speaker to two weeks ago in another parking lot location. He is like WTF are you doing here. I am also shocked, because we emailed on the first go around and neither of our phones made the contact familiarity apparent. I made sure to lock in the contact info this time. Thanks again if you ever read this David.

  4. Thanks Billy 👍 So you like the laser badges huh? Hmm 🤔 not really my first choice (2nd or 3rd or lol 🙄). I like the new pie badges (like I put on my 904s). And the plain black bold print KLIPSCH with gold backing. Top notch... In pictures.... I'll just say it. These basic original model La Scala are pretty ugly imo. But in person man I gotta say. They are some down right intimidating, bad *** looking speakers... No doubt! Literally the first thing I thought when I saw them was "Wow that dude (Paul) wasn't f..... around" So far they sound exactly what I wanted. Really big effortlessly. Well done Paul. Impressive... most impressive (Im such a nerd)

  6. Have any of you been a part of ensuring that wartime heroes in your family/extended family are remembered by future generations? How did you do it? Do any of you want to share how you accomplished being ABLE to do it? Here is how I recently did it: My wife's maternal grandfather ("LOLO" Clarinan) and I were very close from the very first time I talked to him. Before I even met him for the first time in 2005, he had already found out that I was in the Army at the time, and that I had been in the Army for a number of years. My intent on Marriage to his favorite grand-daughter was what he was interested in talking to me about, FIRST, but he quickly got around to my military service, and in the process of that part of the conversation, began opening up a bit about his own military service time! And over time, every now and then he would volunteer a bit more information about his war-time service during WWIi while we chatted. Eventually, I had acquired enough details to see him as a REAL family wartime hero...just one of so many who really were! My wife and I married in 2007. Her maternal grandfather passed away in 2010. Her mother, who was born during early WWII, passed away the next year. She had been her own father's first-born child, followed by many siblings over the years. I was able to glean from her some of her earliest war-time memories as a small child, prior to her death. Over time, I began to realize that very few of "LOLO" Clarinan's surviving descendants knew very much about his war-time military service, other than that "he had fought the Japanese during the war"....so I made plans to ENSURE that they ALL would know what I had found out, even though it was really just a "drop on the bucket" of what he had done...but "how would I do it?"...and "when would I have the time to do it??" so that they ALL would know? I recently went into total retirement, just a few months ago...one of the things I had promised myself was "to make this happen" upon retirement...so I set about to do so...First by writing down all my memories of what he had told me...and what my mother-in-law had told me, and I made sure that all of them got written down! Then I arranged them in chronological order according to when they had happened, and verified the order according to war-time history in that particular area where he fought. I wanted the story to show the emotions he had when relating any particular parts of his story to me, and some of them were EMOTIONALLY SEVERE...so I had to figure out how to include the emotions involved, while at the same time leaving out any of the gore! His descendants had already established a face-book site about the time of his death, where they could announce things out to the entire clan, no matter wherever the clan members were...that was a HUGE PLUS in being able to get his story out to them all! When I finally posted it to that site, just a week or so ago, I included a request for them all to add-in things that were missing, to include anything about his post-war life-story, and his pre-war life-story! AND, I requested that they ensure that all of his descendants now living, and his as-yet-unborn descendants would KNOW HIS STORY!...because this was "my gift to them ALL!" WITHIN MINUTES of first posting his story to that facebook site, replies of all kinds started coming in from all over the world! Over the past week or so, they have continually been adding in things that they remembered about him, and amazingly, they have all locked-arms together to get the entire story of his life put together and passed down!! WOW!! Am I proud of starting this? HELL YES!!!! How does reading all the posts affect me? I cry ALOT! ALMOST as much as I cried when writing his WWII story to begin with! It is actually a swirl of emotions, though! What happens, if I remember a few more things he told me, which I forgot to put in the original story? I just add them to it! Is his WWII story unique?...or Is it really much different than other WWII stories? To ME, it is! Although there were many others who were involved in doing the same things that he did! What did he do that was "special"? Short synopsis: He was Filipino cavalry scout on Luzon when the Japanese invaded the Philippines on the same SOLAR morning that the Pearl Harbor attack occurred, and fought at Bataan, after the surrender he managed to escape and immediately became a guerilla fighter, participated in continual clandestine guerilla operations in the Visayas region, assisted in the success of the Leyte landings, was put back into uniform and fought until the Philippines was completely liberated! What about some of the emotional parts of what he told, and what did you write? The entire war was emotional to him! Think about it! Whenever he got emotional, I would change the subject...I think he appreciated that! I certainly would, if in his shoes! Here is an excerpt from what I wrote...referring to after the surrender of Bataan....and then Corregidor...and what happened to the villages in Bohol Province when the Japanese retaliated against the guerilla operations there, and elsewhere in the Philippines, after they had conquered it: …..He explained that VERY MANY Filipino soldiers were able to avoid being captured as the Japanese conquered the Philippines, because they could just melt into the forests...and change into civilian clothes. But he said the Americans could not get away with that...and his eyes teared up...as he gripped the arms of his chair tightly...and his voice shuddered as he said...."but those Americans...what the Japanese DID TO THEM!!!...I can NEVER forgive that!...and all the Filipinos...entire villages....everyone murdered...villages destroyed....many of the villages disappeared forever...nobody ever re-built them.....I can never forgive that, either!"..... This is "LOLO" Clarinan, in 2006, enjoying having just a few of his very many great-grand-children laughing and playing in his yard in front of his porch! On this very same day, shortly after this pic was taken, my niece showed up with her new baby to receive his blessing for his very first great-great-grand-child! MY, how happy he was! Whenever I look at the pictures of him surrounded by laughing and playing children in his yard, I think about how very nice it just had to be for him to live through the war to see this again...something he told me he NEVER SAW from Dec 8, 1941 until just before the end of WWII, as the Philippines was being liberated!:

  7. Good God Yes! Noticed that for a few years, I worked at a Chick-Fil-a in high school in the late 70s. I've literally taken the cartilage out of thousands of breasts. Plus east of here towards the sandhills Holly Farms and Perdue from that town where Randy's from. We get them fresh from a store near here $2 / lb, that is only about one Dolly Parton sized, three you can substitute for a whole chicken in a recipie. That's more than twice as big as the 5 - 6 oz I think it was for the sandwiches.

  8. Have some chicken and a pork loin marinating in the fridge, will smoke it this evening. The size of the chicken breast these days are crazy, closer to turkeys. I don't want to know why.

  11. I know exactly how you feel your right, a LaScala is heaver than a single bass bin and a little easier to grab, but still no fun. It's probably a good idea that a bunch of us do NOT live in the same area, it could be trouble. The police would say to each other, we got another call it's that bunch of old dudes at it again you think they would have grown out of it by now.

  15. Whenever I see those kind of round horns, I think they'd sound best in a round room, and not the kind with a flat floor, no, just front and rear flat walls, with the rest round like a hamster wheel, or like the exercise module in 2001: A Space Odyssey. The rectangular Klipsch horns seem much more logical, since most rooms are rectangular in every axis.

  17. I'm not trying to talk you into it just saying how it is now, a passive crossover is also an eq in a way, it does more than just send different freq to different drivers. Active just has more control and the models these days are very good and add no noise. Not like those old things with all the terrible sliders, good thing, I wouldn't want that either. Very nice, I like the closed backs also, you have more choice with placement, especially toe in which in some rooms is really needed, nice speakers.

  18. I have done plenty. And no, I don't want to share. "The loud mouth warrior is not the one to fear." My family military history dates back to the Napoleon army. A lot are buried in military cemeteries, including one of my aunts. Many are not but were still warriors. LOLO sounds like a great guy.

There are to many crazy people it seems, inside or a car or a house, if someone with a gun asked me to turn it down the answer, would be yes sir. I did like that song but not enough to die.

  24. Thank you very much for the kind words. I had forgotten about this thread until now and looking back at it I can remember how excited I was to post the picture of them together, even though the overall setup, well... um, does not look great. @Islander thats a good point, I will grab some felt mats this weekend. These already have a few scuffs here and there but overall they look nice. I would like to keep them that way. Thank you. @JohnKuthe I have wanted to get a McIntosh to try for some time now. The issue is finding one to demo without droping north of 4 figures to not be satisfied. Its currently powered by an Adcom 555ii with various tube preamps but I feel like that one will probably need some work soon. I am currently making payments to @sheltie dave for a Scott 272 he owns that will replace most of my current gear after he takes it to get worked on by @NOS Valves later this year. I should note that Dave currently has a great list of things in the Garage Sale area for sale that probably should be bumped. I'm going to go ahead and throw in a picture of the way the room looks now in case anyone comes across this thread and otherwise would think I am a bum.

  26. Mookie similar story here but not to that point thank goodness. A few years back a buddy of mine was in a very dark place. I gave him a set of Chorus 2's as he always enjoyed music. He credits this to saving his life. Music does transcend boundaries. I hope this gave you guys some closure, luckily for me I still got my buddy and we crank the sh&t out of those C2's every change we get! Those 4 scala's look awesome by the way!!

  27. The owner of the WE name bought the rights AND equipment from the old owners, including getting all of the old supplies and equipment. Higher quality , new equipment was purchased to improve where they could. This guy is definitely into making the tubes higher quality for today's users, i.e., the 300B is designed for a 40,000 hr lifespan. He's hired old guys who used to do the same work, and new guys to pass on the skills. It's nice that they will be cranking them out here in the U.S. instead of China or Europe. You wouldn't like his new stereo 300B amp though. It is built on a PCB with SS rectification. It sounds very good though, but personally not any better than my Welborne Labs 2A3 amps. The best thing about my amps... they are paid for and sound marvelous. Bruce

  30. Probably too late....but you might contact your bank and ask them directly. Since your preparer messed up your address......maybe ask them to front you the refund and you'll sign the check over to them on arrival?!!!! If they have a problem taking the joint check into an individual account.... it's perhaps because the "other" person on the check is .....how to put it.... losing control of their money (as far as the bank might know). I've seen some banks play hardball and need a signature and I've seen some with a passe' attitude and take it. In the brokerage world, there are some things you simply can't do without the joint signature because once the transaction is complete, they are "losing" that asset and the firm wants their signature on file so if they ever came back against the firm on it.... they pull the signature out. (yeah, it happens)

  32. You’re correct. We never drove around with those on the rear deck lid. Note how they made the little MX5 almost do a stationery wheelie. Although they never played while on the car, they have been played outdoors. As others have said, the outdoor sound is amazing. What is lost in low bass (not really much there indoors either) is more than made up for by the reflection-free midrange and treble.

  33. I personally would take a Quartet over a Heresy II but they each have their own advantages, really don't think one is significantly better than the other honestly.
    1 point
  34. It's probably the perfect speaker all around. Decent size, but not too big for WAF. They use the tractrix mid-range horn, so great clarity. Forte II and chorus II will beat them, but only because of size. They tend to hold their value as well. Try to get them for $400. If you find heresies, A+B them and decide what you like better. You most likely won't lose money on the quartet.

  35. I wonder how many molested boys were glad to see that place torch
    1 point
  36. I don't believe there are 2 versions of Quartet's. In "theory", they would be a II (per se) as they do have a larger mid horn unlike what the version I Forte or Chorus had.

  38. Me too. Closer to 1986/87. I didn't know what they were. I know I liked the sound and I remembered the V front. That single event factored in to my putting a big Klipsch logo on my splits. Big enough that ANYONE that happens to hear them in the future doesn't have to wonder what they are. They can take a photo from a long way away and still be able to read the logo, go home, and type in KLIPSCH and find the site. Then order some. That's my theory, anyway.

  39. I have found over the years that "good condition" can vary quite dramatically depending on who you ask so if you want an accurate estimate of value you will need to post several pictures of both speakers from all sides and the front with and without the grill covers on. If you just want a ballpark estimate based on the model I'd say $250-$300 in rough shape upwards to $500-$600 in very nice, near mint condition. If your pair falls somewhere in the middle condition wise I'd guess the price would too, good luck!

The system remembers that text for quite a long time actually - that is, until you manually delete it and post something else. I thought it was a bug, but now that I understand it, it is really kind of useful.
