  1. I do OK. After an hour of golfing on my home course - it a rough/tall - I find myself leaning on the stick. Last time out, I decided to wait a little before going at it again. The weeds are just starting to dry and getting tough to cut. Now, it's wait for them to dry. Be able to put the whip sickle away and get the rake. With all the rain we had over the fall/winter, dried weeds start getting called a "fire hazard". We won't see much for precip over the next couple months... plenty of sun, wind, high temps and low r/h DO NOT voluntarily come to soAZ in June. Prayers can take a while to be answered... we get all of the requests for warm, from the winter, in June. My buddy has a lady friend.... just recent. They are moved in... Asked me to give him a head's up before I come over. Asked him if a bolt of lightning and a thunderclap would be sufficient. Listening to NorahJones "Come Away with Me".... I swear I can hear my dad playing his bass on a couple of the tunes. Look at it [the bass] standing in the corner, and smile. Of course, he didn't.. The style and this little system.... so real/live sounding

  4. ^^^^^ === with all due respect ( a BMW owner here too x2) it’s all about rider skill rather than the bike or its perceived intent. A skilled rider with miles under his belt can hustle a Goldwing through the curvies far better than one can imagine. Skill, little fear, great rubber and a properly tuned suspension works wonders on any bike and pays big dividends on a GW. A couple friends will and do lay waste to much sportier machines on GW’s.

  7. I very much understand your situation, and I also abhor extremely-loud more-or-less straight-exhaust motorcycles blasting high decibels around a "quiet neighborhood". I ride, and what I ride is very quiet, exhaust-wise, because of its STOCK mufflers! Every state has laws limiting the noise from exhaust systems on public roads, too! Unfortunately those laws seem to be ignored by not only many riders, but also by many police-people, too...most likely because many of them also ride loud-exhaust bikes! I have also experienced drunks getting to bed well after mid-nite at campsites I was already at, do this kind of thing: "I just want to hear my bike once more before crashing out"...they start it up and blast then entire campground with the noise at high engine revs, then lay down...waking everybody else up and inciting the park ranger to arrive shorty afterwards...to tell every campsite with a motorcycle to LEAVE IMMEDIATELY...and there I am packing up my stuff and loading it onto my QUIET bike, IN THE DARK, due to one or more jerks camping in the same camp-ground! Add to this all the people in the neighborhoods having JUST FINALLY gotten a baby to sleep, and here comes the loud bikes blasting thru the neighborhoods! There really is NO EXCUSE for denying others their rights to live peacefully, IMHO! There actually ARE much more low-decibel ways to increase the breathing of an engine, by installation of an aftermarket exhaust system, than installing extremely loud ones, instead! ELECTRIC BIKES?? Not for the kind of long-distance touring I tend to do on very out-of-the-way roads and highways! This pic was taken the morning I arrived at my destination after an all-niter from Fort Smith, AR, to Deals' Gap in North Carolina! I had OBVIOUSLY NOT unpacked the bike yet! 11-hour run, around 765 miles! Left home a couple of hours after getting off work, taking a shower and loading the bike.... at 7pm Central, arrived at destination at 7am Eastern! Three gas stops along the way!...and a stop for breakfast and lots of coffee before hitting "the gap" on the way in to the destination! ALWAYS BE AS AWAKE AS POSSIBLE, when riding "the gap"!

  11. If you know your bike's capabilities, and limits, you can do much more than most people can believe...I've surprised lots of squid kids over the years😉 who see a bike like mine as an old fart putting machine! My bike has many unseen "mods"...I run aviation hydraulic fluid in forks instead of fork oil...no stiction at all ever.....plus have progressive springs inside....balance my load...evenly distributing things by weight, when touring......Have progressive shocks with heavy duty springs on rear .....many small nuances that improve handling….and always re-torque head bearings and swing-arm bearings before going on a long haul (All of them are tapered rollers).... I normally run 80-85 on highways unless conditions tell me not to!

  12. I meant Mike with that statement Paul. I would have suspected that besides all the progressive rock and the art-glam that you had it already! Dust.. not a problem here, my trusty Discwasher from 1980 is still kicking and the zerostat loosens it prior to removal. Gone over so much of them in the last two years I might have swiped 80% of them again.

  13. What's the point in debating over how the length of the Klipschorn bass horn is calculated? Do you think you know more about it than Chief Bonehead? The K-horn gets the job done, as it has for over 70 years. Suggesting that the top engineer, the person who comes up with the improvements to the classic design, may be doing something deceptive in the description of the horn is pretty rude. Saying you're not clear on how the measurement is arrived at would be one thing, and it seems to be exactly what's going on here, but to suggest that there may be "deceptive advertising" taking place makes it look like it might be a great idea to think things through before making accusations like that. The length of the bass horn is what it is. What would be the use of describing it incorrectly? It wouldn't change the performance of the horn or of the whole speaker. The K-horn's performance has improved over the decades, with minimal changes to the cabinet, other than the closed back. There has never been a change of roughly two feet in the bass horn length, so it's clear that you're not clear on how the length is measured.

  17. Evenin' Jim, I'm thinking (along with our announcers on FSCR) that the refs are fed up with the caps tripping, hacking and all that. Maybe not the elbowing... did you see ovi and Carlson tag teaming McGinn with those big elbows behind their net? about 2:00 left in the third before ovi got booted from the ice. *Saw a replay of the caps called back goal in the third. I'd swear gr8's shot went in before he pushed Mrazek! The tide has turned with the bad officiating! `Canes to the second round!!

  18. To me, there's no comparison b/w mono and properly recorded stereo. Stereo wins hands down. HOWEVER, some of the early stereo recordings were so absurdly mixed that they are unlistenable . The only way I can listen to them is in MONO. Some early Beetles, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan come to mind where the voice comes entirely from one speaker and instrumental accompaniment entirely from the other. These songs are WAY more enjoyable after engaging the MONO switch. I'll never again own an integrated amp or pre-amp that lacks a mono switch (or tone controls, for that matter).

  19. I like the silence of my helmet behind my windshield....All I hear is the "ticka, ticka, ticka" of my BMW airhead valve train coming from just ahead of each foot...it sounds just like a Singer sewing machine! If it stops sounding exactly that way, and/or I fall beneath 45-47 miles per gallon at 80-85 mph, which ever occurs first, while on a long haul, it means I need to adjust the valves and re-torque the head bolts when the engine is cold the next morning...about a 15-20 minute job for both heads included, unless I am REALLY taking my time with my morning coffee while doing it! LOL! Seldom does the gas mileage NOT drop first!....well before the sound changes...unless I am pushing the time for replacing the exhaust valves!....saying to myself: "they're OK for another ten or so thousand more miles...worry about it later".... I've only needed to do it once on the '83 beemer...at around 85,000 miles...and it could very well have waited another 20,000 before it absolutely needed it!! But I had the time that winter went ahead and did it, anyway!....Mostly due to Castrol getting rid of the sulfur in the GTX natural oils back in the late 90's! After that complete valve replacement, aIong with replacing intake and exhaust valve seats to the tool-steel versions (due to so much gas having ethanol in it anymore), I changed over to Castrol's synthetic line of oil! Ethanol additives for octane boost are hard on the stainless exhaust valve seats the engine was originally made with!...especially when in combination with no oil sulfur to help cushion the valve to seat closure! Well over 140,000 on the bike now, but should already be hovering around 200,000 because I haven't really had much time away from my jobs to ride it nearly as much as before 2003! I normally would have put on more than just that much mileage! No engine issues other than that one, though since I fixed that one! My bike loves 95-98 octane best, which it can only get outside of the state where I reside, unfortunately!

  20. I don’t think the bikers coming through here are intentionally being noisy. It just does not take much because of the geography. But they do come in caravans and that’s quite extreme. Curious how a throaty car or bike adds to its persona and by extension its owner/driver. Maybe in time tastes/expectations will change and a silent electric rage ravaging the highways will gain favor. Personally I like road travel to be free from road/car noises. Interesting too that this all began just over a century ago. Before the internal combustion engine road noise was the clopping of hooves. Trains were/are noisy but were/are nowhere as prevalent as personal vehicles. Oh well...... such is life. Appreciate your thoughts.

  27. Home depot sells 2" thick styrofoam. Buy several sheets of that, several rolls of tape, some shrink wrap, a bunch of big boxes, a utility knife and a good sized pallet and get to work. Face to face with the foam between the k Horns should make a "square" on the pallet. Then more foam around the outside and cardboard and shrink wrap. Make sure you also tie them down to the pallet.

  28. That Wing was impressive, I might have to dig out my Dragon videos! The guy following him better ease up or hang off the bike more, if he keeps dragging hard parts he will test out his safety equipment. Honda had a very cool GoldWing video in the early 2000s. It showed a guy aggressively riding a GW, he pulled over and removed his helmet....it was Nicky Hayden.

  30. I have owned about 7 Emotiva amps over the years and they are very good for the money. Can’t believe this hasn’t been asked yet.. How large is the room? In a small room, with everything crossed over around 80hz (dual 12” subs) I don’t think you would even notice a difference between amp vs. receiver, driving the speakers. Been there and done that many times. I like the additional lights in my rack and the knowledge that the system is overbuilt, vs wondering if I am maximizing my $$$/performance ratio. But so am s but of a nut, when it comes to my HT gear. That Denon is a stout unit and has more power than most home theater receivers, so unless you are watching action movies at extreme levels, it shouldn’t need an external amp. Also so check out the Monolith line of amps. This is the direction I am going to go next, if I ever get a dedicated room. I always think putting money towards quality subs it the most impactful change you can make in the system. My second change would be to bump your center up to the 450, if you have the room for it.

  31. Now you understand more of where I'm coming from. The ad for the new table clearly says it's designed for DJ use. It is therefore designed for a niche market. It may sound fine in someone's system, but my concern is that it isn't designed for optimum performance as far as getting the most out of the music in a high end system. I am by no means bashing the product, having never heard it personally. But I have experience with gear designed more for commercial applications, and it doesn't sound as good to me for personal use. This is just my opinion and not grounds for an argument.

  32. With particular emphasis upon the context in which this conversation is taking place, I would add that most of us have audio systems for that. That wasn't always true, but it is very true today. Modern exhaust systems are extremely efficient while being quiet. Aftermarket exhaust systems may add 1-2% power at the top of the RPM range, where people seldom visit on the street, while losing an equivalent amount in the more useful lower RPM regions. The aftermarket systems may weigh a few pounds less, but most of us would be better served by taking a few pounds off ourselves. I really like that synposis. "Your argument is a presumption." To be clear, the earplugs are generally for wind noise, which is surprisingly loud even with a helmet.

  34. One thing that is true about adding a quality outboard amp is that the power supply will never be near it's limits. No compression or current limiting(under most conditions) especially with Klipsch and their high efficient qualities. My experience has been better bass drive capabilities especially with the Acurus amps I currently own. Your mileage may vary but dynamic headroom is where things really shine, IMO. Bill

  35. Finally! One listed on ebay. I snatched it up in minutes. The seller messaged me that he had a second Academy in walnut if I needed it. I didn’t. He listed it, and it sold in less than ten minutes. Apparently walnut Academy speakers go fast!!!!! Can’t wait for it to show up on Wednesday so I can fire her up and see what needs to be done (crossover, driver upgrades). My Klipsch happiness is all Walnut Oil 5 channel speakers. Now, perhaps Klipsch made Walnut Oil subwoofers.......... It’s too late for me.

  37. I have a Marantz 6011 AVR in a 5.1 setup and from time-to-time I'll run All Speakers Stereo and sometimes Mono. The Mono sounds pretty good to my ears, surprisingly good. It sounds best in Mono when I am about the house and not sitting directly in front of the speakers. If you've tried it and don't like it, no problem. I think we all have our preferences for different listening situations, just find the one that sounds the best to Your ears, in Your home, with Your equipment.

  39. There is an old house in town that was built in1927, been in disrepair and empty for quite some time, that is up for sale and had a open house yesterday. My girl and I walk past it often, went in for look-see. The claim to fame for this house besides the view, are those who visited and partied in it, back in the day. Bogart, Gary Cooper and Errol Flynn to name a few. The house across the street used to be owned by Gloria Swanson. A shot from the deck. I guess this town was a nice escape from the rigors of the limelight.
