  3. still drinking this Kona. I'm not too fond of darker roasts... and this is. Gotta go to the store and get tobacco, coffee and filters. We'll see what is available. All the varieties are not always to be had. Some Ethiopian would be nice. The Mexican beans are very good, too. here's something that not many of you know, or cared... A bic lighter will balance on its [round] edge fairly readily. I found this out accidentally. I set my lighter down on the table and it balanced. too much time on my hands? maybe

  5. Well, would you believe it's been 6 months since my last post on this and we just got our septic system installed last weekend and driveway 5 weeks earlier? Needless to say, the continual rain since November did not help things whatsoever. Just about the time it would be kind of dry to do some work outside, we would get another frog floater and nothing outside could be done....so we finished the inside. We will close in maybe a week but we are clear to go ahead and move in finally! (and the crowd roars...) This weekend is supposed to be sunny and hot, 90 degrees or so, and we will get everything move from the ($hitty) rent house to the new house. We had already cleared out the two 10 x 20 storage buildings a few weeks ago, after the driveway, of course. Now, it's just down to getting the rest out and then I can bring the Belles and my remaining gear (stored at my best friends house) to their new final resting place and have them hooked up again after a 15 month hiatus. Pretty exciting. One crappy part will be that there's no internet connection where we are at in the neighborhood and doubtful that either of the two prividers (Cablelynx and AT&T) will bring them on down for one house; I'd have to pay for their trenching and that's not going to happen. Hopefully AT&T will have their Fixed Internet Wifi stuff done soon and we'll have a connection. But I thought I'd come back and update.

  8. Ohio boy has true shark story... Buddy of mine took his LF to Miami on vacation. They both love to fish so went out fishing one day. SHE caught a 6.5 foot hammerhead and he decided to have it mounted and shipped back home. We were hanging this thing in his den and I asked what he did with the meat. He said they asked him the same thing so he said, "You want it?" They said yea, we'll take care of it all for ya. He paid them $3k for the mounting. Mmmmm ok... I wonder if they all survived the beach party and liked the meat? just another fishing story but it's hangin on his wall.

  16. True storey, but amusing.... Had the most amusing con today. After going ISO a fuel line for da kids car, (O'Reilly's, Auto Zone and two NAPAs) ; I found the Hose Master. Toyota wanted $250 and three days. The Hose Master cut the fittings from the old line, brazed them to threaded fittings and fitted a hose between them. For $45.00. In 60 minutes. The Hose Store, 302 East Baseline, Mesa Az, 487-5800. Great service, and comedy too. Hose Master: " I can give ya another inch on that hose if ya want." Me: "Better make it two; ya can never have too much hose." Master: " Yeah, we can do that."

  21. Loved these guys back when Leon was still circulating on the airwaves. Days at the river, sunburned, burgers on the grill, Bud in my belly, a babe waitin' and this blasting all over the inlet from those big Advent speakers. This was the first record of theirs that I'd heard. RIP Ronnie H

  22. ... my cousin doesnt have a way to test the speakers.. "... i have the amplifiers and pre amplifiers but he doesnt know how to connect and wire the components to the speakers ... What? Except for the pictures that whole ad stinks to high heavens. If you want to pay $1200 for speakers that average $746 go ahead, but my advice would be to be very careful.

Water facilities. Plans for an outdoor shower are already in the works. We don't notice perspiration so much as a white crust growing on your skin... kinda like walking on the beach, w/o water.

  32. the black shiny poly tweeter diaphragms which were used in most KLF speakers (some early KLF20 and KLF30 were factory loaded with phenolic diaphragms which are fine and will sound excellent for many many decades) I think they (poly diaphragms) are imo the worst sounding diaphragms Klipsch has ever used in a product. The caps in the in a KLF20/30 are not the PIO (paper in oil motor run caps used in old Heritage and/or plastic (usually polypropylene in oil) in the newer versions) series which will also last for very many decades and sound fine. The woofer section of a KLF20/30 use cheap electrolytic capacitors which can be easily and inexpensively be replaced and upgraded by modest price modern electrolytic capacitors for better sound and the mid/hi section of the network they use inexpensive polyester caps. I happen to be a big fan of top quality polyester caps by the way) but the plastic caps used in these decades ago while they will not degrade with time are not near the quality available today. Better quality caps is where the improvement to performance comes from. Dayton sell a series of small value film and foil plastic caps which are inexpensive and provide excellent sound quality in the mid and tweeter sections of the networks. These new parts are well worth your time effort and cost to replace. You don't need to take out a bank loan to purchase ultra expensive boutique capacitors to improve dramatically the sound quality of your KLF speakers. I hope this helps.

  33. Making them prettier can be done fairly easy. They weren't designed to be pretty. Making them sound better, is the hard part. They were designed to sound good and by some pretty smart people. The port they have in there already, probably gives you as much extension in the low end as you are going to get. A passive radiator is basically the same thing. You would have to eliminate the port for the passive to work. One step up, one step back. Build three nice cabinets, put a subwoofer in one.

  36. My theater includes a custom built HTPC which has a 4-Bay Sans Digital TowerRAID unit attached via ESATA connection. It currently has 12 TB of storage but is capable up expanding to 16 TB of storage and I can double the capacity with a second unit. I have a considerable collection of hundreds of blue rays and DVD's that I am adding to weekly that I want stored on my hard drive array. My choice is based on the facts size of my collect and my desire to rip and store only uncompressed files that I rival the original in picture and sound all at my finger tips. You need three key applications to achieve your goal. 1. A Ripper/Encoder this program is able to read/decode the media you want to store and then write the read/decoded information to your hard drive. I've used many programs in the past but my favorite inexpensive one is "MakeMKV beta". You can download at http://www.makemkv.com/download/ I've used it for years and have no complaints. It's quick and easy to get great results every time. Another great one if you don't mind paying is AnyDVD HD. I used it all the time back in the day before RedFox got a hold of it and jacked up the price. There are a few other great programs out there that do way more but I just want a straight rip of the media into a "MKV" container for storage on the array. 2. Next you'll need app to help you manage and organize your media files. This app should also gather meta data about the media, rename when needed and organize the ripped files into a structure and naming convention that a media front end program such as Kodi (which you are showing as an example) can understand, navigate, and display within a media player's API. The resulting structure makes it easy locate and play media files on PC enabled devices. I've used both Media Center Master http://mediacentermaster.com/ which is a stand alone app that works with Kodi, or XBMC and Media Companion https://sourceforge.net/projects/mediacompanion/ which is a fully integrated Kodi solution for this purpose and found them both very capable. 3. Lastly you need a front end application that will navigate the file structure onto which you've saved your media files, Identify the files as to nature (movie, TV, Podcast etc.) and with this data create, modify, import, build and display the resulting database in a way you can deal with. I use Kodi (formerly XBMC) it is "a free and open source media player application developed by the XBMC/Kodi Foundation, a non-profit technology consortium. Kodi is available for multiple operating systems and hardware platforms, featuring a 10-foot user interface for use with televisions and remote controls. It allows users to play and view most videos, music, podcasts, and other digital media files from local and network storage media and the internet." I run this on my HTPC and smart enabled AV devices. I've ripped a few hundred Blu-rays so far and I'm in the process of updating the HTPC for 4k video and gaming Here is a picture of my HTPC eSATA attached storage array in my Pioneer rack If you want more info let me know

  38. One more comment ... test lab shows (see http://www.hifi-classic.net/review/luxman-r-115-419.html ) : The R-115's power output at clipping into 8-ohm loads at 1,000 Hz was 105 watts per channel, well above its 70-watt rating. Into 4 ohms, the output was 148 watts

  39. If the restoration was competently performed, and all the original solder connections were verified to be intact, the amp should be quite reliable. The phono stage is not anything special (in my opinion) but performs well and is comparable to that of other amps of similar generation and price point. All amps have quirks of some kind or another. Don't worry about it. They are easy to work on by a skilled technician, but are definitely not a beginner's project. The voltages encountered under the chassis can kill you! Hope this helps out a bit.... Maynard

  40. Why get rid of the luxman? They are special and sound great, imo. I'm running a r117 on RF7i's and love it! I also have a 115 which gets occasionally rotated into use with a pair of KLF-30s. Again a very pleasant sound that can really wake them up!

  42. A pair of "mostly finished" Exodus Anarchy tapped horn subs and a Crown 1002 XLS amp to power them. Since my wife left me (to visit grandkids in Co. she got me the amp for Christmas) I decided to bring them in from the garage and test them out. After the Berlin Philharmonic played Brandenburg Concertos 2 and 5, Steppenwolf played The Pusher and Magic Carpet Ride, then Creedence played their greatest hits. Quite a difference with the enhanced bottom end. Me Gusta! Next, back to the garage for final sanding and stain, then they come to live inside.
