  8. Ended up with Mexican beans. Don't know what I did wrong to the spaghetti.... but, it was really good. A cup of good coffee to wash it down... some music and a smoke. It will be bed time. Feeling my way around spotify. Nice to have some use for my computer. As a general rule, I try to stay away from it. Was telling wife that kids should be kept away from them until they are 16.

  9. Loved these guys back when Leon was still circulating on the airwaves. Days at the river, sunburned, burgers on the grill, Bud in my belly, a babe waitin' and this blasting all over the inlet from those big Advent speakers. This was the first record of theirs that I'd heard. RIP Ronnie H

  11. Actually, I’m a little late to the party and received this Denon ARV-X3500H a week ago. I have a Marantz SR5012 (2017 model) that I’ve been using for about a year and a half in our Living Room Home Theater System (5.1.2) and really like it, but I’ve always been curious about the Denon from the same model/feature/capabilities level, so I decided to try out the AVR-X3500H (2018 model) since it has some updated capabilities over the 2017 model. I’m still tinkering with the Denon’s settings, but I like it as much as the Marantz, but even to these old ears there are some subtle differences in the sound between the two (no negatives). I will keep both of them, but switch them occasionally.

  13. Well, that clears up the confusion. So you actually used that for your speakers? When you get some proper speaker cable connected, I’m sure you’ll be newly impressed with your CF-3s. And the right cable (or Kable) will be much easier to work with. That wire did look pretty strange. If they sent you RCA cable when you ordered speaker cable, you’d think they might send the correct stuff to you for free or heavily discounted, but in any case, it’s not that expensive, so I’d just order what you actually need, and make it clear that you don’t want another mixup. The Karma Kable is all I said it was: easy to work with, inexpensive, and lets your speakers express themselves with no interference or excess resistance (assuming you ordered at least 14 or 12 gauge). This forum is a great place. A lot of info is shared, and we all learn. Much of what I know about audio systems has been learned here, and I thought I knew quite a bit before I joined. I was soon to realize that I was practically a beginner, but paying attention pays off.

  17. This thing will compete with my SVS-SB3000 sub (13" driver/800 rms watts, 2000 peak). This all started out me purchasing the 18" transducer for $59 delivered for shitz and giggles. For the price I wanted to hold that driver in my hands, maybe sit it out as a conversation piece. But then I started investigating building a cabinet for it, put together a budget sub. The 18" transducer has double the cone surface area of the 13", and is more efficient (102db @ 1 watt). But the SVS sub has massive power handling, control, and low distortion. Its just a lil fun project, I like working with my hands. I have < $500 tied up in the 18" sub including the Crown amp. A decent high power sub plate amp sells for $450 new.

  18. Yes the mineral wool insulation does function properly as a bass trap while sealed in the bags. The plastic shrink wrap is not a barrier to the long wavelengths of the bass frequencies. It is actually recommended that bass traps should have a thin hard surface to reflect the high frequency energy, if you don't want a broadband absorber.

  19. After being urged by my Brother and a good friend to try marijuana for pain relief and an escape from the chitty days, I asked my oncologist if he could prescribe some medical MJ. I told him I knew nothing about MJ, in fact never even seen any. I told him my friend, former cancer sufferer, had recommended it for pain relief. The Doctor asked me how much I needed so I told him I had no idea. I asked, you think 2 pounds would be a good start? Keith

  23. So guess where this record was back in about 1998? A filler at the end of it is one my favorite parts of the LP. Not complex. Just filler.

  25. Although I suspect each bass bin contains a driver, the ad says "driver," singular. The listing will eventually end taking this thread with it. A photo helps to cling to the memories.

  26. Going up for sale is my sweet Scott 299D integrated amp. I bought it from a forum member (Mike Lindsey) in 2013. It was rehabbed by Craig at NOS Valves in 2009. Dead quiet and sweet. Wrapped in a beautiful custom wood case. I have not put more than 10 hours on it since moving to Kentucky 4 years ago, and probably less than 50 hours on it since I have owned it. Located near Lexington, KY Price for the 299D and custom case? ? Will be $1100 on local Craigslist. $1000 + shipping to a forum member. I hope a forum member gets it. I have not been much active (but I do lurk) since moving to KY in 2015.

  29. Just got a response from KnuKonceptz. "That's a Karma RCA cable that someone has cut the ends off of, it's not speaker wire. That cable is not intended to be used as speaker wire, the conductors are much smaller than is desirable for that application." Jeez; maybe I was displeased with my Forte's because I used a crappy RCA cable?? Darn ... they did not say we'll ship you a free cable

  32. The La Scala II is sufficiently different from the original La Scala that a new crossover was required. Accordingly, installing an AL-4 or AL-5 crossover might not be an improvement. The AA crossovers are very popular among Forum members. I use them in my own La Scalas, with Bob Crites’s Sonicaps, and I’m very happy with the sound of the speakers.

  33. You are the first to have this problem that I've heard of out the 35,745 members who have signed up. It may be possible there is something on your end creating a glitch, maybe a virus protection program? We did have a real problem here with scammers signing up with dozens of accounts in a short period of time and the forum sign-in procedures were tightened up to stop that from happening. Maybe it went too far, who knows? I can tell you I signed in one time, probably years ago and when I return to the forum access is automatic, no sign-in or logon needed. I don't mean to be accusing you or your computer of anything, I'm a problem solver and this is a mystery. Sorry we didn't get the opportunity to help. It's a pretty good group of guys here.

  34. I don't object to the direction of this thread at all, and I don't think Dave does either, since it's all related to LOWERING frequencies from VARIATIONS of Bass Horns with Baltic Birch Lumber usage and finish. Now if some smarta$$ started talking about Super Tweeters here, then it would be improper and impolite to do so and we should object. Otherwise, it's all good!

  36. The sub cab flat pack arrived Tuesday afternoon. 36 hours later its all together (Tightbond 3 wood glue and a youtube assembly video). The double front face (1.5") was the last component attached hence the marble slab weight in the pic. The 18" transducer flat pack sealed cab from DIY Sound Group is awesome! CNC precision cut MDF and the lowest price I could find on line. Now debating about ext finish....paint it flat black, or veneer cabinet, or something else. I have a couple very small cracks in the front 1.5" face mating surface I have to caulk or seal. Did some light sanding/finishing last evening. The second hand Crown amp XLS 1002 arrived a week ago, works great, pushing my old speakers to test it. Has a plethora of DSP options. Impressed for the price. So I have all the components to finish except for the cabinet feet and the exterior finish. I just knew my local Home Depot or walmart would have something I could use (screw on rubber feet) , but not the case.

  37. I really splurged on mine. Since the AL-5 and AK-6 are wired internally with Audioquest Star Quad wire I wanted to use something close to connect my LSii. Using Canare 4S6 to connect the amp to the mid/tweeter and Canare 4S8 to connect the amp to the woofer input. The runs are only 10’ so total cost with connectors came to about 25.00. Cannot say it is better than zip cord sonically. I feel better about it.
