  15. Oscar Peterson is a name familiar with. Seems there was a trio, of course... Marion's Piano Jazz program apparently had a great number of artists over the many years... Mingus one of those remember discussed ...superb.

  32. I spent several hours today playing test tones and measuring with REW. After getting the LR channels sounding superb with the Xilica I decided to tackle the other channels in my HT. I am using a pair of Ashly 3.24cl units which are not nearly as user friendly or capable but having learned A LOT over the last day the results are impressive. Speakers have location-ally vanished. Everything is super clean, music and film sound awesome! Many, many thanks to Chris A for sharing his knowledge. I owe you a beer or 3 for sure.

  33. You scoff at the company as if what they do is child's play and that any fool could reproduce or better their results with some on line free design program. Figuring out crossovers is complicated stuff otherwise we could do it ourselves. Who wants to give their experience and insights into how to design well away to the competition? I came across this schematic on line I cannot vouch for it. I don't have a CW3 or know anyone who has a pair. Perhaps someone who owns a set and is willing to pull the network and poke around can confirm or deny?

  34. Well Hello Folks, It has been a while, In fact... it's taken years to finally wrap up our four LaScala projects. It really helped that I retired last October (43 years) and became a volunteer with just a few projects to focus on (the sweet life!). Things couldn't have gone better... a beautiful pair now sit on the stage in our newly remodeled games room. The second pair we made to sell and pay for the parts for all four... so a bit more attention to detail, i.e. the walnut bead molding toe kick and grills held in place with magnets hidden behind the veneer. I just have the one photo now but will post more photos with details soon. Thanks again, you guys got us off on the right foot! -Mark

  42. Long time lurker, first-time poster. Anyway, people have mentioned the A-55G from Crites. I used it as a drop in for my Klf 20s and it does sound a lot better. The distortion is incredibly low so the music always sounds quieter than what it actually is. It also images really well. Since my Klfs are on the skinnier side it made it even better that the driver makes it sound like I'm listening to a wider speaker. It also is a little tamer. By saying that I mean that it is likely that it is a few dB less than your current midrange in terms of sensitivity. Whether that is a good thing is up to you.

  45. Well, that's some good shit. The rate that placebos work can easily be over 50% and close to 60% on average. A capsule works better than a pill and mutable capsules a day work even better, it even came down to the color, some had better effect.

  46. Thanks Dave,I always appreciate your input .The tops of the speakers have some nasty scratches as seen in the pictures, but I think I will be able to work on them to repair them .They came with glass tops that hides all the bad spots.I am looking forward to setting them up and hearing them.

  47. seems the line has changed ... they were talking fiber hemp. The marijuana farmers were complaining about the pollen contaminating their crop/s. Hemp for CBD is grown the same as "regular"... no seeds. I don't think the seeds have anything but nutritional value. No "active" ingredients. the CBD craze will ebb, like all the other fad food/cures. I'm not saying it isn't good for some things. but .... not everything "they" claim. Was just reflecting on the nopale fad. Miracle food and all. Ya know what nopale is? Prickly Pear pads. We are waiting for tuna season. No fins or gills. Tuna is prickly pear fruit... When we see red faced dove... we know they're ripe.

  48. I don't know anything about that receiver, probably some settings messing it up more than anything else. I say this because I have an old one, elite VSX 82TXS, it's used just for pre outs and is very musical. Before this it was just a DAC with a volume knob used as a preamp that sounded very good. Roy was here and wanted to try this receiver to make connecting other thing easier, it was quite surprising the sound quality was at least just as good as a very simple minimum signal chain system, disc player into a DAC and out. I have no idea how that receiver compares to one he is using, I don't know anything about it, the 82 was from 06 and highly rated. But in the end the only thing that matters is sound quality, nothing else. Not name brands, price, topolog or anything including personal beliefs, great sound quality erases all of the extra BS, as I was shown. That is why I do not like general blanket claims, it may be general myth but myths are not facts plain and simple. Roy has very good ears, he knows what to listen for, plus 30+ years of testing them and designing speakers, he knows what does not sound right for whatever reason. He is the one that thought the change from DAC was NO loss in sound quality at all, he set up and tuned it, we/HE tried it both ways. I actually fought it thinking it would be a step down with all my preconceived BS common ways of thinking, I was proven wrong. He had all weekend to play with it, I left it 100% up to him to get the best sound, he set up his computer and did his thing. I don't know if this guys problem is the receiver or not, it is for him to figure out after exhausting any setting or adjustments with what he has. I only say all of this because I was shown my thinking was wrong and could possibly give someone needing help a wrong direction to head, prematurely at least, which is not a help. Just another opinion Roy (white t shirt) Kevin Harmon next to him watching as he did his thing, Roy is a NO BS kind of guy. After working with PWK all those years he is VERY quick to tell you what is BS and why, and can prove it.
