Hello my new friends! I just made the leap into Klipsch after demoing many different speakers including Paradigm Prestige (am I allowed to say the P word on this forum?!). Anyway I couldn't be happier and look forward to learning more and participating in this community. The speakers are single owner Klipsch Forte II from 1985 that have been cared for very well. They came up for sale at my local Hi-Fi store not too long ago and coincided with the timing for when I was in the market for speakers. The store owner was very patient with me and helped me demo and compare several speaker combinations. Oddly enough I listed to the brand new Forte's side by side to the vintage ones and preferred the sound from the old! Turned out to be cheaper than the new, and that was an added bonus (I would have bought these over the new even if they were more expensive). My turntable is a 1200 Technics and amplifier is a Marantz PM 5005. I am in the market for a tube amp as I am curious to know what the Klipsch's sound like with that type of an amp. Biggest hurdle in this purchase was convincing my wife that the speakers weren't too 'big' and wouldn't ruin the look of the room. They are relegated in my office / study room for now, but my grand plan is to slowly but surely move them into our large living room. Once I am successful with that then I can think of further upgrading to some of the more impressive Klipsch speakers! Thanks! Bharat5 points

Yes. My small LS3/5a monitors sound extremely good in near-field, but they require lots of quality power. They are not party speakers. They are politely British with their BBC design and KEF drivers. They are “audiophile” classics. My horn loaded Klipsch Heritage (I’ve owned Khorns, Cornwalls, La Scalas, Heresys, etc.) also sound excellent at low volume near-field, but they can rock an outdoor party. The dynamics and power cannot be matched by the BBC monitors. The efficiency of Klipsch makes it unnecessary to spend a lot of money on quality high power; it does not eliminate the need for clean low distortion power, just the need for expensive amplification. Your inference that Klipsch owners don’t care about the quality of the amps, I feel, is incorrect. In order to get the best out of efficient Klipsch Heritage, you need an amp that delivers low distortion at low output. I currently satisfy that requirement using two small DIY class D chip amps that most audiophools would sneer at. As was said earlier by others, part of thrill I get from the hobby is to get the most bang for the buck. I enjoy listening to music, not dollars. Few things are more enjoyable than having someone comment that they like the sound of my system better than their more expensive system. Audiophile (from the Greek), literally means one who is attracted to sound. In that sense, we are all audiophiles. The negative implication that an audiophile is one who is concerned more about brand names and invoices does not fit most on this forum.3 points

Welcome to the forum. If she thinks that they're to big, just wait until you've had a chance to do some reading on this forum.3 points

Well, these are the crazies. We have a high end store here in Kettering, and I decided to stop in for a visit. The prices were absolutely insane. I could have bought a new set of Klipschorns for the price of a small pair of their monitors. I listened to several things and wasn't impressed with any of it -- lifeless boring shit.3 points

While some "audiophiles" do spend a lot of money on their system, spending a lot of money does not make someone an audiophile. To me, an audiophile loves and appreciates music. The gear is a means to an end. So as long as the system delivers live realism and has you get taken away emotionally in the music, that is all that is required, regardless of the cost. I feel many Klipsch speakers fly under the audiophile radar. Sad really because they are a great bang for your buck. The speed, dynamics, realism and ability to articulate a whisper are what I like about my Jubilee and Cornwall III speakers. YMMV3 points

Hi @bharat you don't have to spend megabucks for a nice system. My budget was set at $2000. I have acquired a pair of LaScala, a nice solid state amp, a CD player and am shopping for a sub with the $500 left in the budget.2 points

I’m settling in to another Jazz weekend that started yesterday Let me just say that the only thing I dislike about this album is the corny cover art That said - now onto my description of this Free Jazz genre album First released in 1959 and I was mesmerised from the first track If you have never heard musical instruments talking to each other then listen to 2 horns talk in this album Totally unique and another masterpiece Artist - Ornette Coleman Title - The Shape Of Jazz To Come 2 points

Not sure if I should post this here or somewhere else? Where's a good place to buy albums? On-line? Big Box? Local music store? And what's up with some albums being remastered? Which is better? Or is asking "Which is better" like asking "which is better, a Ford or a Chevy"... I like oldies like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Country Western, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Dylan, etc. And Michael Jackson's Billy Jean sounds incredible on my Jubee's... As always, Thank You! Welcome Bharat, great speakers you have there, congrats. If you can, you might try spreading them apart some, might sound even better. Playing with placement can be fun and the sound difference is usually noticeable.2 points

Yes, this is an audiophile forum. Spend time digging into the subforums and you'll find plenty of people have plenty of expensive gear. And we do our fair share of humble bragging, but we also spend time talking about music theory, source material quality, room treatment, etc. The nature of Klipsch speakers tends to attract people who seek accuracy, transparency, and the optimization of their entire sound reproduction system - precisely because the speakers are so unforgiving. And then there's the people. A great many people that hang around here have decades of experience in the music industry, engineering, exposure to a great many system configurations, and truly eclectic listening preferences. And we're interesting people, too, with a great many side hobbies besides audio and the forum leadership is generous in allowing those "off-topic" discussions to flourish for the sake of building community ties. It's the reason I hang out here and not any other forums.2 points

Not mine. https://www.ebay.com/itm/183838319904 "Klipsch Palladium Luxury Zebra Wood Speaker Set. Set includes 1 P27-C center speaker in expresso color, 2 P312-W subwoofers in natural finish, 2 P39-F tower speakers in natural finish, and 2 P27-S surround speakers in natural finish. The set is in very good used condition with one tower and 2 subwoofers in original packaging. The one exception to the very good condition is the unboxed P39-F has a tweeter in need of repair, all else is very good condition with minor surface blemishes."1 point

Well, that's great to hear!!!! I'm really glad McIntosh decided to replace the whole amp for you. That's fantastic. I had a similar recent experience with NAD. I bought a new BluOS module for my NAD C390DD and couldn't get the tone controls to work. After many months of tech support correspondence via email and phone they finally admitted they couldn't fix it with a firmware update and made me a deal I couldn't refuse. They took back my 6 year old C390DD and credited the full MSRP to a new M32 plus a very nice discount on the difference. The last time I had a similar out-of-warranty experience like this was with Klipsch when they replaced a Corwall cabinet that had lifting veneer, even though I thought it might be my fault because it was an unfinished version & I had done the final sanding & finishing.1 point

Welcome to the forum, even though you have been here a couple of months. If you can get the new model RPs for a decent price, then go for it. You will find it easier to add the "matching" surrounds later if you choose to go that route. From my understanding, the last generation RPs are very similar to the current models with very slight cosmetic changes. Speaking about RF-82II(Reference V), great prices on the used market as well as the rare NOS low prices from the mentioned Fry's. Just one note, the used market is your friend and don't hesitate to scan your local market for some gems that are waiting to be scooped up. Just ask @Youthman about his finest score. All the above bought on craigslist for a crazy stupid low price which was a fraction of what it cost new. Bill1 point

I think I may know what Alessio means. This is a Klipsch forum and as much as we think of Klipsch speakers it is also a place for the followers of Paul W. Klipsch, the man, and his philosophies. PWK had a very down to earth philosophy of how speakers should sound and be engineered, he also had a down to earth idea of what helped that sound and what didn't. He was very well known for flashing his Bullshit badge whenever he saw an idea which was counter to his audio philosophies. He was a proponent of lamp cord or zip cord as speaker wire. He was well known that despite all the hand wringing over minute technical aspects of a speaker and its components, at the end of the day he might declare those things "did not make a dime's worth of difference." I think Klipsch is the working man's audiophile speaker and many of the people here reflect that. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.1 point
