  2. I've maintained for years that Klipsch should offer the LaScala in two versions. One with the stock tophat and the other with the 510 inside. They already make the top separate from the bass bin so I'd think it would be easy. I've got to think there are folks out there that would do that.....and go active (or they could design a passive for it I suppose).........look around, there are already some nutso people putting those parts together. You know who you are!!

  3. I was trying to machine an R/C Helicopter's rotor head parts from an R/C Modeler magazine's plans in metal shop in high school! I made a few, but mostly I got HIGH in high school! And you are correct, since it's already BROKEN you have that going for you! Problem is: you can break it worse trying to FIX IT! 😉 Try NOT to go that route! John Kuthe...

  4. We were decorating the dance "hall" at the HalfwayStation...in a previous life, a stage stop. Half way between Tucson and Nogales. Place was closed and needed "life" breathed into it. We were trying to make the confetti "explode" from the pinatas in the vid....Anyway, at 3AM, he comes to see "How it's going". I was standing there, in a daze from being up for near 24hrs, when he approached me. I pretty accurately described our "convo"... of all the things I would have liked to ask/say... Best I could do was "duhhhh" Seemed very personable and everyone that wanted autographs got. I managed to get Paul and Linda's on the same piece of paper. that might be worth something, eventually.

  6. Not much of these are actually Klipsch, other than the HF Lens. Dressed up with the Walnut, they look pretty good (to me) and sound great!

  7. dirtmudd recommended the Hana and I read all the reviews. Not knowing the benefits/drawbacks of the EH and EL I ordered the EH (high output). I also thought I would need a step up pre so I ordered the Schiit Mani because of great reviews. Later.......reading the Hana instructions it states that with the EH you can use a MM and still get the MC sound😲 So I would have been okay without the Schiit but I'm still anxious to hear it. The Hana is installed and pretty nicely set up with the supplied protractor. No wires broken and needle nose pliers did help. I installed the nuts on top of the head shell thinking it would be easier but now not so sure. Played part of one LP (Charlie Musslewhite Aces and Harps) and it sounded fine. Tomorrow the Schiit install. Then some break in time and a report back. One side note...There is a guy on youtube, think his name is Ian, who is well known for his cartridge shoot outs. He did a review of the Hana EH and the Nagaoka -150 and preferred the Nagaoka at half the price of the Hana! Wish I had read that first!

  8. .... defense dept watches R/C forums. I have gotten 2 "Sorry, wrong number" calls from Raytheon. I'm tempted to up there, see if they have something for me to do. They are in Tucson.

  9. you know what a Bell/Hiller head is? I defied conventional wisdom and got rid of half the linkage. Heard a lot of "That won't work", Got a working prototype and a month or 3 later Blade had an almost identical set up in production. Keeping my thinking in "parallel evolution" helps to slow the thoughts of theft of intellectual property.

  10. you can do it! Steady up... I have hardwired connections on receivers for my R/C helicopters. 12 wires, 1 mm dia, of 7 strands ea to a board less than 1in square. taking it apart it's already broken... you have that going for you. putting it back on.....

  11. The one project for the day is to set up the new Rega Planar 3 and the Hana EH moving coil cartridge. Dreading the job since I broke a wire on the Denon last week. The Schiit Mani pre is to arrive today. Tomorrow.....will attempt to take the arm off the Denon and send it to Texas to a forum bud for rewiring. Hope these 70 year old hands are steady enough😑

  14. Mine has done the circuit through the S-MWM's. In one side out the other. The really funny thing is if I turn them down no matter what music I am playing the cat sits with me for a while and no other speaker has caused him to do so.

  15. that was filmed at OldTucson. MichaelLandon was fond of Arivaca and filmed a few episodes of ..... having a brainfart...out here. Highway to Heaven... thanks google https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0601552/locations I've participated in a couple of "shoots" I helped with set construction and you get to see the back of my head in PaulMcCartney's "Stranglehold" video also in "GusBrown and MidnightBrewster"... That was shot at the greyhound racetrack in Amado.... Not bus, dogs. We're wild, but that is a stretch... even for us I met SirPaul... It was 3AM. Comes up to me ,"Drinking coffee?" 27. My normal listing level, with demanding movie soundtracks is -15 to -10. I have always found reference level too much for my taste but that isn’t a popular opinion around these parts. Since you tested your system with the AVR vs. AVR + amp and you didn’t notice a difference, I’d probably sell the amp and order a new subwoofer or two. SVS makes some great gear but since you have the loudness handled, you might reconsider your subwoofer setup. If I were in your shoes, I might sell the dual SVS subs and amplifier and pick up some ported flat packs and run dual 18” subs and a beefy 2 channel amp to drive them. Like I mentioned, you have the loudness covered so you might be searching for more impact which dual 18’s would definitely do, if they were properly setup. Just another idea. This isn’t a knock on SVS, I have owned a few, but you can build 2 18” ported subs and buy an amp for under $1,500 that would likely top 2 PB-16 Ultras. This might also be a fun summer project, if you are handy. These look like they might be a good option, for this type of project: https://shop.gsgad.com/collections/martysub-by-gsg-flat-packs/products/martycube-by-gsgtm-flat-packs-2-pack-discount-pricing-178-50-ea-freight-shipping

  31. That might be one way. It's been a while, right before they changed about selling parts, i had bought some also, K400 horns for something I was building, straight from klipsch. I hate to name people since it caused a lot of problems, one of his fanboys wanted to start problems so i went looking for older post to prove it to him and had a hard time finding them. A few people have seen what was going on and started looking and a few were found, when the fanboy was confronted with old post proving what he was lied to about he never posted again, if that was really s second person? Almost the same thing happened with a guy named Volti, this was another who knew almost nothing, got info from people and started making bold claims, many complaints there also and a couple of fanboys wanting to argue, do what you want just don't cause problems here. I don't know if many realize why the search for an old post or subjects do not bring up what it should? It was not talked about much at all I think. It is because way back a certain moderator wanted to leave and wanted their account deleted. We explained this to the adman and he said just tell him to not post, well he threatened to be forced to be deleted and was not taken seriously. Back them moderators had way too much control, they could actually erase all or part of the forum. This has been changed since that's exactly what happened to cause his account to be deleted, we tried to warn them. So there are many missing threads, probably way more then we realize gone forever, they tried to get them back with no luck. All he wanted was to have his account deleted, should have been simple enough. I have no idea if some dealers are selling parts or not, at one time I thought cinema dealers did also. Me I don't care really, Dean you know i have never had anything to say about building crossovers, about all I say to people is to change caps if there old, never tried to talk anyone out of doing anything else. I don't care if people want to diy or not, why not. Makes no difference to me, it's kind of fun. But If I owned Klipsch I wouldn't sell parts for diy, not worth the trouble really with as few parts are really sold. Then you have to explain how and why a certain speakers for sale is homemade after they also bought original badges to stick on them, not worth the headaches. It has happened before more than once, one guy built jube knockoffs and came back here to start selling them, that was just one time, well he built a few.

  32. Emile, with all due respect, I am seeing a pattern here. If you are trying to get this resolved, then going on the company's site and trashing them is probably not a very good strategy. Then again, I may be not be understanding what you are trying to accomplish. There is probably a more complete story around this since a number of things do not make sense and do not align with the experience that I have had. I will just leave it at that. My own two cents .... the K-510 is a great product. It's amazing the amount of performance they can squeeze out of the little guy.

  39. Never got sick, but did feel bad the next day and was moving slow. Have not been sick from drinking anything since the late 70's, don't know why, probably should have been more than a few times. Well, you did say we were not leaving until it was done. I have no idea, I drank too much. All I can say is thanks. You gave me that metal square tag that was hanging off of the neck of the bottle, it's hanging in the pole behind the bar where I told you I would put it.........to remind me to not do that again.

  40. Well I’ve finally moved to a home with a dedicated listening room and I have been able to get a lot of my equipment out of storage and hook up my Klipsch Forte II’s to the Pass DIY Sony VFET amp. Wow! I thought the Pass amp amp performed exceptionally driving the less efficient KEF LS50’s, but this combination of the Klipsch Forte II’s and Pass DIY amp is on another level. I feel like this amp was made for speakers like these. The bass is deeper with more punch and the whole package is more dynamic and lively, but still very refined with detail, tone and timbre. The soundstage is huge and deep as most people have observed with this amp. I was also able to get my rebuilt McIntosh MC240 tube P-P amp out of storage and I plan a shootout between “Papa” (what most people at diyAudio.com refer to Nelson Pass as) and “Mac Daddy” (my MC240).

  41. Good advice. A couple times I have had ebay step in on a return/dispute and they resolved matters quickly in my favor. Ebay will enforce their rules of transactions, to protect the buyers and mostly their (ebay) reputation imo. Unless you purchased "as is" in the listing. Even sellers listing an item as "no returns" if the item doesn't work, they will make it right. I take screenshots of item listing/details I purchase to my desktop pc, if the seller has some unfavorable ratings. This MO just saved me shipping costs on a recent return. 100% refund and the seller paid all shipping charges. You have to be smart and protect yourself. Most all sellers are GTG, just a few bad apples. Their detailed feedback history tells pretty much all you need to know. I wouldn't tell em you disassembled the speakers. Just tell em one of the drivers does not work at all, no sound.

  42. Good point. I personally have only had to deal with them one time (shows how good there stuff is for how many different klipsch speakers I've owned). Companies don't normally last as long as klipsch being rude to there customers. So my guess we are probably more the outliers than anything. It did suck but Im still a klipsch lifer. 👍
