  1. Bought the new Bee Gees, All Time Greatest hits 180 Gram double LP from Walmart no less, Sounding damn nice on the new ( to me ) VPI Classic 1, with Dynavector Karat 17d3 I remember when Saturday Night Fever first hit theaters (Showing my Age) Link to the Vinyl........So far very nicely mastered, and a very quiet vinyl https://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/timeless-the-all-time-greatest-hits-bee-gees/31015300/2660674577932?st=PLA&sid=BNB_ADL+Marketplace+Good+New+Media+-+Desktop+Low&sourceId=PLAGoNA&dpid=tdtve346c&2sid=Google_c&gclid=CjwKCAjwmNzoBRBOEiwAr2V27RLgCI4qvL4WdV11DZBScYOtCJLnCDGMUBktn2zuCsM4RaDVYJ2nEBoC9O8QAvD_BwE

  2. I'm repainting my bedroom. On Friday, while I was upstairs replacing the outlets in the room and listening to the radio downstairs, all of a sudden the music was overrun with this wicked hum. I listen to a non-commercial station which frequently has a problem with their CD players skipping so I thought they must be having a problem. I ignored the noise for about 30 seconds then couldn't stand it any more. I went downstairs to change the station and lo and behold, the other station had the same problem. Don't tell me my tuner crapped out! Then I switched my amp to another source and the hum was still there-don't tell me my amp crapped out! While checking things out, I noticed the case on my equalizer was REALLY hot. What's going on here?! So I shut the equalizer off and the hum reduced by over half. Then I got the bright idea to bypass the equalizer altogether and when I did, the problem disappeared completely! Now that I've got the hum isolated to my 40 year old Audio Control 520b equalizer, my mind starts to think; now's a good time to buy something new! I didn't see much that interested me, so I started perusing craigslist and eBay, where I even found exact replacements for my beloved 520b. But I'm an electronic tech (although I don't do much to the component level) and I'll admit I'm frugal, so I figured I should take a stab at troubleshooting my equalizer. I've got nothing to lose. I opened up the case. Since this unit is so old, most components used are discrete and likely pretty generic. My first clue to the problem was the hum; likely 60Hz hum, so likely a power supply problem. This equalizer power supply is not too complicated, making it easy to figure out the layout of things. And fortunately, the 40 year old manual I saved had that rarity of, a schematic! And for a bonus, if I used a magnifying glass while reading it, I could see they identified the components by generic part number. In my case, I was given another clue in that the leads to the diodes used in the bridge rectifier looked like they overheated. Now, testing components while in-circuit isn't exactly the right way to test, but it's a good way to triage things and the numbers I was getting with my voltmeter testing the diodes told me at least one of them was shorted. I was also getting weird readings from those two blue capacitors even though they didn't look blown, so I decided to replace all the diodes rather than pull them from the circuit to test individually, and replace both capacitors. Hey; the cost would be much cheaper than buying a new equalizer! Fortunately, there's a "Radio Shack on steroids" electronic store nearby, so obtaining replacement components was a breeze. Looking at the photo now, I see I brain farted and did not buy matching capacitors (they were hanging on the same hook); they both should have had a 25V working voltage rating. No matter; better higher than lower. The only way I noticed was I observed the prices in the photo were different. I can't believe I paid an extra 30 cents! Replacing the components and reassembling things took 30 minutes. I'll admit the component positioning wasn't as professional as factory installed but that's my only disappointment. I'm not sure what that brown smudge is; it doesn't look like a burn mark from overheating or overcurrent flow. I added the marks next to the components to observe correct polarity. Prior to reinstalling the equalizer to see if it would work, I tested all the components out of circuit; one diode was in fact shorted. The capacitors tested fine. I reconnected the unit and it worked! Here's to the NEXT 40 years!

  3. When my wife and I go out to dinner, I sometimes embarrass her and give the reservation name of a famous singer, without her hearing me. Table for Presley, table for Plant, table for Prince. She took me out for Father's Day, and over the intercom came "table for Springsteen".....she laughed, rolled her eyes and looked at me like "is this us"?

  4. Nope. She just decided to use her voice like an instrument to work along with the recording. Her voice was the last addition to the mix. It was entirely her creation from scratch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJzatfNQf4g

  11. Took last nite off from everything and went to "jam" nite at a local bar. Most of the guys I know that played were out camping for a wkend party w/Warren Haynes & Mule and quite a few others comprising two-days. Got the invite but blew it off. Guess the days are over for me stumbling around in tent city looking my pillow! .lolol Years ago I went AWOL after a Browns/Steelers game in Cleveland. Got tired of looking for the bus my buddies rented and crawled in one that looked much like it w/a couple good lookin women in it. Yup, wound up in Pittsburg and got home 3 days later. A friend drove to Pittsburgh and brought me back! Had a great time. 😂 Sooo, back to the story line! Hit the bar last nite and got a treat. Former drummer for Zakk Wylde & Black Label Society showed up. Talk about a jam nite? Playin on someone elses kit using his sticks and just flat cooked. Not him in this video but if you've never heard of Zakk Wylde here's a taste! Today was a Bday party for my 7-year-old grandson. Smooth sailing in comparison. ha!

  18. She had no clue going into it what ANYone wanted. Just cut loose and boom there it was. She was given a time frame to do anything she wanted and the end result? Perfection! One of the best ever runs like that I've heard! Soooo many great back up's out there I'm happy to see them get some recognition for their work.

  28. Wow. All of those guys were necessary, IMO, to make Pink Floyd what we all know and love. That said, Waters is too much of an a*hole. Seemingly all of the time, to me. Way too political. Not saying I agree or disagree with him, but to quote Frank Zappa, “shut up and play yer guitar”. Gilmour for me, thanks.

  29. thebes................................................................... you are so out of touch. And so wrong. In fact you've made so many wrong statements (above) that you're basically, no, unabashedly, putting your, um, ugh, dare I say "ignorance", on full display. (don't do that) 😎 I don't have time to respond to all the absurdity right now, but I shall return. In the meantime, whilst you have described "digital" as "a brash young fool speeding along in a convertible heading straight towards dead man's curve", I guess it's time to remind you of your age, and how time has passed (you by?). "DIGITAL" is no longer "young". It's been around commercially since the mid/late 70's ---- nearly half a century, thebes ------ almost as old as you? Looks to me like you're the one headed for Dead Man's Curve (along with the rest of us audio veterans). (especially the digital deniers) (who I suspect never actually heard an all digital recording and playback system even though you think you have)

  31. I'm right there with you. We just arrived home from the 13 hour journey from Cañon City, CO. No additives in the tequila I'm about to consume. Regarding my earlier post about triple sec, I don't like it but my brain was dying and for the life of me I couldn't think of Grand Marnier. Triple sec works for the college crowd though. Cheap and effective.

  34. I meant David's solo albums, he has a lot of great stuff. Have you seen The Wall Movie from Germany yet? It was recorded in 2014. By far the best thing PF/Waters/Gilmore has done.

  35. Many bands were my favs, since 1970 more or less. I was a huge fan of Jimi Hendrix for a long time. But I have to say PF is my all time fav. They were so revolutionary, so ahead of everyone else. I can still remember listening to "Be Careful with the Axe, Eugene" when I was 12 or 13 and stoned. The best was yet to come tho And whatever vinyl album they had all their equipment laid out behind them on the jacket. I can still see that huge gong or symbol. I have not owned that vinyl album any longer in 25 years plus.

  36. Well there you go just ride around shooting out the window, it's very popular these days with the kids. 22 pistols are fun, only have one and have never shot it, it's a cute little thing. 22Mag double barrel derringer in chrome and rosewood handle. I won it buying a raffle ticket to help the VFW, cost me $5. https://cobrapistols.net/guns/classic-derringers
