Cleaning out the work shop. Here are a couple of items that you can have for free. Just pay the shipping and packing. Tung Sol TS 78 tube tester. I bought this at a garage sale some years ago and as far as I know it works as it should. Not a fancy high end tester to be sure. I have no use for it having purchased a Hickok. Photos to follow. Rega Planar 2 Turntable. I picked this up as a project. Having recently rebuilt a Linn LP 12 and built a Lenco based turntable, I dont have the time to mess with this. It needs some work. The motor works and the platter turns. But I think the motor housing needs to be remounted and lined up properly. Should be a pretty good turntable for someone with basic DIY skills. Not to be a dick, but please dont send requests for shipping to various zip codes. The tube tester is pretty light so it shouldnt overly expensive . Im sure the Rega weight and size can be found somewhere. This is the original Planar 2 not the current issue P2. Cheers Josh6 points

Thanks guys! Yea it's tough when someone you love is in a bad way. Ladies in her family have lived into their early 90s on a regular basis and I do think she will get better. Just not today though. Hope she can get home to go the few blocks to a clear view for the "3rd of July" fireworks shot from Southpark mall every year.4 points

Mustering as much civility as I can: These are superstitions. The first claim is provably false, the second claim is a misstatement of what dither does, and believing otherwise will not change the facts no matter how forcefully anybody asserts those beliefs.3 points

Yea that's mine too but I reckon it depends how beat up and crusty it gets. When you're trying to keep acreage cleaned up &*it happens.2 points

And on you. I don't think I've used a string trimmer that didn't make a mess everywhere. Mine just has 2 tabs that when pressed allow the end to come off. Never had a need for any tools.2 points

Most commercial string trimmers spin counter clockwise...keeps the mess off the sidewalk and out of shrub/flower beds. Nothing I hate worse than one of those cheesy curved shaft string trimmers that spins clockwise. Those are good heads, but the only thing I don't like about them is if the line is brittle or the weather is cold, one side (or both sides) of the line will break off right at the exit holes on the head. Then it takes a screw driver to pry the head apart to fix the line. The spool types are better in this regard, because if the line breaks off you can just pop the spool off and rewind it. You can't wind the spool types too tight...then line melts together and makes a real chore trying to feed line out. Too loose, and the line will come out and tangle and wad up in the head.2 points

I think it can be safe to say that "recording" always loses some sound information? Join us next week when @thebes dissects his favorite boy band to answer how the stereo versions are better than the mono2 points

sounds like a typical morning here. We are spoiled. There is a daily chance for a spot of rain... nothing significant yet. Might be in for microbursts. Still a little too dry to make for good chances of weather. Dew point is up to 50`. For statistics they pick a day for keeping track of precip thru the "monsoon"... June 15 - ?... Meteorlogically, it "officially" starts when our dew point maintains 54` for 3 days. We ain't there, yet2 points

Trying to "upgrade" to an existing passive crossover that's been produced within the last 20 years or so using much older Khorns with their drivers and horns whose performance reflect the period in which they were built (i.e., 1968 in this case) would be a definite risk in terms of what you get. Using a DSP crossover and a USB microphone to measure and dial them into their room placements is without risk, and will result in the highest sound quality that you will be able to achieve using the horns and drivers that are presently in the Khorns (or later replacement horns/drivers of any type or configuration). Based on that observation alone, to me it's a no-brainer to upgrade to a DSP crossover...like this one: https://www.minidsp.com/products/minidsp-in-a-box/minidsp-4x10-hd\ or the Xilica XP 4080: https://xilica.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/09/Xilica_XPSeries_ProductSheet_V1.pdf Chris2 points

For the same reason that some people still prefer chocolate ice cream over vanilla -- they like it. That's a layman's explanation of dither, and not a very good one. The true purpose of dither is to decorrelate the quantization error and the signal. Believing otherwise will not change the facts no matter how forcefully anybody asserts those beliefs. Obsequious? Non sequitur.2 points

Genetics can be surprising and not always in a good way. My maternal grandfather had very thick hair that grows very fast and so do I. But my mother had fine hair? I remember when I was a little kid my grandfather would take me with him to his barber, I can remember the barber saying I must be related we had the same thick hair. Our 3 daughters also have thick hair so you seem to be correct.1 point

Congrats on your new speakers! Forte II speakers are awesome, great mid-range. I just wanted to help clarify that your speakers were built in 1992, not 1985. The picture you posted on the serial number tells us this. The first three numbers indicates that it was built in the 24th day of the year, and the 4th and 5th numbers is the year reversed (92). Enjoy!1 point
