  1. I finally finished cutting my black granite slabs that I have had for almost a year now. Placed them on top of my 5 Chorus II's and my diy audio racks for a seamless look. The other 2 Chorus II's are in surround position with matching black granite tops. So what do you guys think? Do you like the look of black granite and walnut?

  2. It’s about your record collection, and to show us your preferred genre, so in absence of a turntable? Just post up a photo of your album and link a video so we can have a listen Thanks Took a while to get the system just right Now I’m enjoying it for music pleasure just about every day

  5. When Roy first demonstrated a K402 on the LaScala for a small group of us is when I believe some started calling it a Jubscala so I understand stand why Islander might use that phrase. With that being said Roy has always said at any gatherings I’ve been a part of is that what makes a Jub is the Jubilee LF Horn. Klipsch Listening Room at Lab. I’m in the yellow shirt and Drwho is to my left. Rigma’s passive crossover and my Tube Amps can be seen in the floor. Great Time this was...🙂 miketn

  9. After getting great-looking charts in the article Moray linked-to the author goes on to say: "After a month of twiddlng around, how did it sound? Well - not as good as it looked. The balance wasn't right; it was too bass-heavy. In terms of coloration and image quality, the speaker was much better, and the "PA sound" coloration was gone. "The balance problem could be partly alleviated by putting the speakers farther into the room, audiophile-style, but the Chorus, like the Cornwall, is a physically imposing speaker, and looks odd sitting in the middle of the room. This experience shows that it's easy to get led down the garden path - the measurements above are some of the best I've seen, but trust me, the modified Chorus was a long way from being one of the best. I undid all the mods and returned them to stock condition, and the bright, fresh Klipsch sound was back." Very interesting.

  10. I have said before that the next in line after my LaScalas would be the Chorus. Nice job on the bracing. BUT, I will be going bigger. Actually have a schedule now for picking up my MWM bins the first or second week of August. 😲 Bruce

  11. Totally agree with you! The funny thing about them all is they just turn... Some better than others it seems. ;p; Then ya toss on this tone arm and that tone arm. then it's this cartridge or that cartridge. I get soooo lost-ed at times too! Gonna sort it all somehow though! Welcome to the group and don't worry about a thing it all just seems to happen somehow in here! Questions just ask. Great place to share info and questions! Bring it brother!

  12. here is a link showing you just how much time alignment can do for your Chorus. Also the flair on your vents is just as helpful on the front side of the cabinet. Air motion at both ends of the vent is important. http://www.nutshellhifi.com/MLS/MLS3.html

  14. I'll second that opinion ! I know many here say the Chorus does best with high power, My big Yamaha amp is getting recapped so I'm currently pushing mine with @ "measly" 85 watt Luxman R-115. I can't get it up much past 1/4 volume & things start falling off shelves 😁 I can literally feel my chest cavity start to vibrate with the K-48 woofer movement too. (If needed, I think I could do "self-CPR" if I turned the Luxman 1/2 way !

  18. No argument, just a couple of facts. Pre WWII Jewish population is regarded to have been around 16.5 million. Today it is once again around that number. Conservative estimates of pre Columbian native American population are around 50 million. 2019 population is just under 1.8 million. Effectiveness, and I already said in my first post I am not making any judgment or moral call here, that is a topic for a different discussion, or at least argue with someone else about it.

  23. Well that sounds good but here is the problem with software and learning on your own by trial and error and crap documentation. You can spend a ton of time to get to what you think is the right place with it only to find out later there were best practices that would give you better and quicker results. You can go on for some time thinking you have it all solved only to have some whiz bang at it see you work your "magic" and when he is done laughing show you how it is really done. It is not that it can't be done but my tolerance for stumbling through the process has about had it after 15 years of CAD and CAM programs. I would rather learn best practices to begin with and save myself the problems DIY can cause with software.

  24. You don't need to check the other mid-driver. As pointed out above just make sure the lead(s) are disconnected from the crossover. If it reads "open", replace the damaged diaphragm . The repair is not terribly expensive and it is certainly worth performing. Some of the leads are delicate so caution is advised (remember this driver is a huge magnet and can grab a screwdriver at the most awkward moments). Congratulations, you will have a pair of Hereseys up and running. They are a nice sounding speaker!

  25. I worked on a pair of Chorus I with @Matthews a few years ago. He too added the port extensions. I'll look up that thread, having just worked on a set, you would find parts of it interesting. Photo of his ports:

  26. This was an interesting project. I congratulate you for doing the before and after comparisons. A couple of points or questions. Was the modification of the port just the adding the flare or was it lengthening the port also (lengthening the port will, of course, lower the tuning of the cabinet). Second, another trick for lowering the tuning is to make the cabinet larger. That is not practical but you can mimic a larger cabinet volume by lining the interior with an inch or so of pressed fiberglas. Was that the idea behind the egg crate foam. I bring the point up since not all egg crate foam is the same. I assume this was the correct stuff? You might also try moving the cabinets around a bit sometimes a half foot will alter the effects of one of the room modes. Sometimes the effect can be surprisingly large. A bit of experimentation is useful. Great project and thanks for sharing. -Tom

  27. Well I could not sleep until I read your results... no not shabby at all. More to say later yet, when getting some bass extension with volume, and your results of your ongoing(?) tests, I think your method is somewhat close to maybe spot on. Sounds like worth the doing, and the bracing as well...one thing you can say is the K-48-K is no slouch.Wish I had done the ports at the least... enjoyed your review and testing of the mods. Thanks...

  28. OK, I know I promised "testing" & I would try to keep it as "Objective" as possible. Here's how I tried to do the best I could w/o measuring it like an engineer would 😁 I ordered this CD (picture below) online that has Digital test tones of all the mid & low bass frequencies. I played it a few different times both before I started any mods, and again a few different times after all the mods were completed. PRE- RESULTS: I could hear a noticeable dropoff in volume & sound "fullness" around the 45 Hz test tone prior to my modifications POST-RESULTS: After the ports/bracing/insulation was installed, I can now play a 40 to maybe 39 Hz test tone without any dropoff. They will play lower tones as well, but I can hear a progressive decrease in volume as it gets lower (volume is at a consistant level 39-40 Hz and above) In addition (this is subjective/my opinion...) I think the bass is tighter & generally just sounds better than before. I am glad I did all the work, & EXTREMELY happy with the 5-6 Hz I gained on the lower end !!! NO REGRETS 😎 (But if you just want to keep it simple, & don't have a chop saw, just put the ports in...) Dave

  29. The upper bracing starts right above the opening of the woofer. (side to side oak 1"x1"). This is probably the weakest section of the entire speaker, because it's where the motorboard is thinnest, between the woofer opening & the mid-horn opening. Most of the bracing is 1"x1", with one piece of 2" x 3/4" & 2 cleats used in the middle as a side to side brace (same as I used on the bottom section) I also used construction adhesive to glue on 3 sheets of sound deadening egg crate foam. One sheet is on the inner "roof" of the speaker and one one each upper side wall. These were 2" thick 1 foot squares I bought on Amazon. (In case you're wondering, no insulation was inside the cabinet originally)

  30. After I cut the cardboard, I had to figure out a way to join the flare to the tube (btw, they are EXACTLY the same size diameter) I used blue painters tape on the inside (temporary measure, removed later) and then TWO coats around the outside seam of this flexible black adhesive called "E-6000" that I bought at Ace Hardware. After both of the 2 adhesive coats dried, I wrapped the seam with two layers of electrical tape to give it more strength.

  32. Deliberate slaughter of their food supply and way of life must not count for you. Believe the lies you wish. I am not making a direct one for one analogy between those two either, that is simply the corner you want to place me in. I also never mentioned efficiency, the term was effectiveness. Like I said in the first place, there is a lot of good to go around with all of the bad. There really is no argument.

  33. When I first started coming here I just got my klipsch speakers and I loved them until I noticed it they made my head hurt. When I said something about it on the forum it went to do you have ear problems to gear not working well with them and a few almost sounded mad lol. I think klipsch are great speakers but in some rooms with some equipment they are little hot around 4000 hz and in my crappy room I need to drop it about 2 db on the high end also. With some songs I can go to flat and it sound fine but most of the time in my room they need just a fuzz less. This does not take away from the speakers at all in my opinion and after getting the loki for control I can't imagine speakers sounding better for what I have invested. I see alot of speaker mods done on here but I would almost bet 80 percent of the problems could easily be fixed with alittle eq. I can see replacing things on really old speakers. I love the dynamics of the speakers and would rather have to tame alittle brightness then them being dull and lifeless.
