  1. I went to Nashville a few weeks ago for a short work trip. Apparently my 5 yr old was certain that I'd like it there so much that I was going to just setup shop, start a new family, and never come back. My 7yr old reassured her, however, by pointing out that I didn't take my La Scalas and sundry equipment with me so clearly I would be returning. That girl gets it.

  3. My wife at Bishops Castle in the San Isabel National Forest, Colorado. A remarkable structure, built by one man (The castle, not my wife. She is remarkable as well, but required one man and one woman to build) on private property within the forest. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bishop_Castle

  4. Finally got a copy of one I had back in the day. But..... a great song, the great song on this record that has a quiet start has a minute blemish. When played it sound like a scratch through about ten revolutions. A brand new sealed copy is what it looked like. The rest of it is as it should be & this was their only copy. What say you?

  9. I have a bunch of 12AU7A RCA Cleartop tubes that were recently pulled from a Conn organ. These are orange label, grey plate, side getter, all with same date codes from 1959. Cleaned them up as best I could. They look dusty, but i didn't want to wreck the labels. All were tested on my calibrated TV7. All of those offered tested at NOS levels or better. I have matched tubes together based on test results for each of the two sections of the tubes. These are some of the most desireable 12AU7 tubes out there, as they were selected for organs due to low noise and microphonics. You will be very pleased. $29 per pair, shipped to CONUS. Please message me with interest. Thanks.

  10. My first name is Glenn. My father named me after his favorite actor, Glenn Ford. I've been known as Mos, pronounced like "mows" as in cut the grass. In the Navy it was just plain Mo. On the CB Radio back in the '70s (remember those? I do vaguely) I was Woofer, my wife Verna was Tweeter and our son was Midrange. But here, I've always been known as Picky because I am VERY picky about my audio stuff. Hence my involvement with Klipsch. Howdy y'all!

  11. When using the jumpers for LF and HF input then which ones you connect the amplifier to doesn’t matter because they would be in parallel electrically speaking. Which version of the MC275 does he have..? It has power sentry monitors so even if he has a shorted speaker cable its not supposed to damage the amplifier. I would suggest you inspect the speaker wires running from amplifier connection to the speakers for any loose strands of wire touching the wrong terminal or possible pinched or damaged insulation which might also lead to a somewhat resistive short (ie:not a dead short which would cause an instant shutdown) which could lead to premature shutdowns as volume is raised as you have described. miketn

  12. when I was a kid a friends dad bought a small hobby ranch just outside of Ottawa Ontario his plan was to retire there as a gentleman rancher. They had a number of animals there including some goats and the big Billy was a very nasty piece of work to whom you never dare show your back. One day he approached me and I stood my ground telling him where to go, he stood there with a grin on his face I could not figure out what he was up to then he pee'd straight between his front legs and onto my feet. I never liked that goat. I think that I was about 12 at the time. I still don't trust goats to this day.

  17. The corners are nice. Have you heard the speakers? Klipsch is very revealing so any "noise" in the chain you will hear and be disappointed. Common thought is any capacitor in the crossover more than 20 years old should be replaced. Depending on your personal DYI skills it can be an inexpensive exercise of soldering in new ones or buying new expensive ones or sending them to a recognized forum member to do the work for you. Don't jump into changing just yet; build the system in your room and listen to see if you have specific degradation. Spend some time with it first. Will they be used in a stereo system or in a home theater surround setup? If two channel stereo system it is better to go with a receiver / integrated amp / separate preamp and amp for that purpose. My short search on your receiver's specifications would indicate that it does not allow you to reach the full potential of the KHorns.

  21. I say keep but a question...does your new space have 90 degree corners with ~4 feet down each wall from the corners? There are ways to adapt but this would be ideal. What would you power them with (system)? When you say cost to ship do you mean ship by themselves or included in household shipment?

  22. My 1974 La Scalas came with crossovers that looked exactly like those. Just replacing the capacitors with Bob Crites's Sonicaps made a very noticeable improvement in sound clarity. They came in a kit, with little plastic saddles and zip-ties, for a tidy installation.

  23. Surround sound LaScala... LOL! The tweeter is leftover from the A/4500, CT-125 mod. Thought that would be the safest place to store it! Any time I put something in a “safe place” I either misplace it or compromise it’s condition.

  29. Some nice comments by Gary. But let me side with PWK and his use of 1/2 watt 27k resistors rather than Gary's thought that a higher power rating is a temptation given today's SPL preferences. I"ve done some calculations and concluded that it takes a stereo amplifier rated for 3375 watts to reach the 1/2 watt rating. Please check my calculations. The only part which may be unfamiliar is the analysis that the highest power is delivered into the 27 k resistors in the arms of the Y (on the schematics) is when the stereo amps are operating 180 degrees out of phase. Maybe some sound sources do that 180 degree thing as when we have only surround in old style Dolby. In a more familiar sense: It does create a condition like bridging stereo amps. This results in a voltage of zero at the meeting point where the center channel or mono signal is extracted. In out of phase condition there is no center channel signal to be had. Anyway. Assuming you use the speaker output version of the box the calcs show that you need a stereo amp rated for over 3.375 kilowatts (and outputting all of it) to put the 1/2 watt into the 27k resistors. Further, you'd be putting that 3.375 kW into the speakers. Assuming you use the line output version, the voltage at the RCA jacks must be 116 volts -- an obvious impossibility. In conclusion, PWK was conservative in his choice of 1/2 watt resistors. Addition by edit: I hope Gary is not insulted. That is not my intent at all. WMcD Center Channel Mixer and 27k half watt R.zip

  30. Those are great B&Ws, should go on the portrait wall! *been hectic here lately..... Thursday when I was edging the lawn I heard something scurry across the street and hit the leaves near me. Looked up and this was five feet away: So it's here in our neighborhood and not going away, first time I've seen one from the day it was born through a few weeks later. Last of this one next time one of those football sized turtles, the redtail, a brown eagle or a coyote is near I'll try to snap a shot of them.

  33. More progress today. Finished adding the MLV to all 12 polys. Also added cleats to the top section of each poly. I did not glue the cleats in case I ever want to change the hanging method or wish to use the polys in some other configuration. Next will be adding the material and adding the hanging cleat to the walls. Getting close now.

  34. Cost is certainly a big consideration for all of us. I personally stay away from fiberglass or mineral wool and prefer cotton products. I think it would be worth your time to find the Master handbook and look at the suggested examples of good corner traps. You may not have to use hard fiberglass or mineral panels due to the way the corner pieces are constructed. Once I finish the side polys, assuming they actually do work, I will be building some more for the back of my room for diffusion and more bass absorption. Once that is complete, I will be addressing stand alone bass traps for the front of the room behind my screen, followed by attention to the room corners.

  38. My bass absorption lamp stand. Years ago I bought these triangular bass absorption corner foam pieces, only to discover a little later on that they do very little for deeper bass frequencies. So, I then bought some acoustic cotton panels and made my own corner bass traps instead. These were then tossed out of sight for years, then had the idea to put them together, get a couple of tiles, one on the bottom for stability and one top and use it for a lamp stand. It sits on the side of the couch and goes unnoticed. I don't know if it does anything for the room or not, but it does support a lamp.😀
