  3. They have the exact same components as a Heresy II, but in a taller, ported cabinet. They have the bass that most Heresy speakers lack (although I am quite happy with my HIIs). When the HIII series came out they had a policy where you could get the HIII components to put in your HII cabs, thereby giving you newer HIII speakers. But you were left with HII parts. I never had the money, but wanted to do the upgrade and the build some nice Tangent 400 cabs and populate with my parts. It would have been a win/win.

  5. If your looking for something to listen to tonight I suggest giving this recording a try. Was listening to this on my La Scala AL5 setup the other night and it is one of the best sounding recordings by him and I especially enjoyed the personal memories he shared before each song and the simplicity of these versions of his songs.

  6. You missed a real good performer he outdid his physical stature when I saw him. Wasn't a fan, I even tripped him out a little when I practically bulldozed him running a push broom down the aisles of the record bar I worked at. I kinda stopped and swerved he chuckled and asked me "You gotta date tonight?" `cause it was as we closed when he came in & I wanted outta there that half hour later. Being keen on Aero, ZZ, Teddy, Rush and Zeppelin back then I wasn't on him either. I was also about 19 when he did two nights here starting the next night after that. Told him I thought his "Jungleland" and that other ballad-like tune of his were great asked him if he was gonna do a medly type concert quick in and out of town series.. he said naaa. I picked up a pair of tickets the next day and saw him the second sold-out night, two weeknight dates for me that week! 10th Ave Freezeout & the old stuff was great, Born in the USA wasn't my speed (top40). Nils Lofgreen was there at the mall with him that night and on the stage with big ol Clarence and him... RIP Mr. Clemmons. They did two energetic hour and a half sets each night here that time, one of the last I saw in our old Coliseum. His show might be second to only Pink Floyd of the shows I've seen. He didn't act like David Lee Roth did in 1980 but Bruce got into it and let us have it. Doubt it could be that way now, decades later.

  7. I have a Crown K2 that I use with my KPT-904's ... absolutely awesome. But, it may be a bit too much power for your CF-4's, unless you stay away from max volume The K2 has 1/4 inch and XLR inputs ... used 1/4 inch before, but it broke off inside the amp ... now using a RCA to XLR adapter ($5 online). Using a Kenwood Basic M2 amp (220wpc) with a C2 preamp on my CF-3's. Pretty sure that's all the power they need ... haha, have had them up to 120dB's Good luck with the search

  9. I don't want to start a political discussion, but may I offer an alternative analysis? I'm not taking a shot at you personally but your conviction (feelings) is not supported by any facts here in the United States. 1) There is NO example of anybody in the US who voted who had their opinion changed by an unlawful (speaking loosely, I know what you mean) Facebook (etc) post. Not one. 2) Social media, Facebook, Google, Twitter etc. is highly biased towards the liberal point of view, the left leaning point of view. That bias would favor Trump's defeated opponent, not Trump. It has been pretty well established that although Trump won the election according to our American electoral college he didn't have any more votes (50 million) than the previous republican candidate who lost by a substantial margin to President Obama. The other side of that fact is the democrat candidate did not have as many democrat voters come out as they did for President Obama. It was that apathy by the democrat voters that kept them from going to the polls to vote for the democrat candidate. There is no proof that any votes/opinions were changed because of social media, either way.

  14. For those of you interested in stepping up to active / DSP crossovers, there is currently a used Yamaha SP2060 on sale on eBay. The price is $539 (roughly 1/3 of a street priced new unit). This would be a good choice for many of you and is a step up from entry level processors (from Behringer, Rane, some of the DBX, etc). So as not to offend anyone , even the entry level processors can still provide a fair degree of listening quality.

  15. Well, after many years of wandering in the audiophile wilderness trying over 100 other speakers in my main system (Revel Salons, Magnepan 3.7i's, ATCs, Thiels, etc, etc...) I finally decided to come back home to Klipsch as I've owned more Klipsch speakers than anything else (3 pairs of Khorns, 6 pairs of Chorus, 5 Pair of Cornwalls, etc, etc..). I had almost forgotten what attracted to me the sound of a horn speaker; immediacy and dynamics. I ordered and received my new pair of LaScals IIIs (AKA AL-5's) over the weekend and just got them set up (see pics). I'm currently using some vintage Pioneer Elite gear (M-91, C-91, etc) and it sounds incredible! Nothing reproduces a jazz horn like a horn speaker! Now I think I'd like to match up the LaScalas with some Tube gear or maybe a warmer sound SS amp. I do have a Musical Fidelity A5 integrated in another system which might be the perfect match for them but haven't tried it yet. Any suggestions from those who have this speaker? (McIntosh, NOSValves, etc)? Obviously I'd want something with a very low noise floor as I don't want any buzzing or hissing. Appreciate any suggestions.

  17. You should have seen me after gathering up all the stuff, throwing it in the trunk and getting inside. It's real. I got drenched, and those big-a$$ed rain drops would have hurt if I'd have been on a bike doing 50 or more!

  18. You'd be surprised how much cleaner your CF3's (any speaker, really, especially ported ones) will sound if you can cross them to 50Hz+ and run all the lower stuff through the sub. Getting all that wasted cone motion & port delay/slop out of your sound makes a huge difference.

  20. No I do not, did not know it existed. I'll look into it. I've not played any music from the laptop but that is a good idea. I'm an all vinyl guy so one source (turntable) in that room for music. I disconnect the phono's R/L in order to hook that mini-jack RCA thing into where the phono previously was. This gives me Laptop>>cable>>Volume control>>Xilica. Guess I could shut down REW to remove that from the equation and play with the Right/Left of the Windows or Sound Card mixer. @babadono I believe in the past, because I was always doing one speaker, I simply had the Mini-Jack-RCA cable with one RCA connected to Left in and the other not connected at all. So I can't really say if this is something new on my end. My plan this time around was to actually take Right and Left measurements not just copy one sides settings to the other.

  21. This is the reason I love the international flavor to our forum. You have knowledge and experience I don't. I am mistrustful of our American media so I am skeptical of what agenda they try to push. That's why I like hearing first hand what our leaders say, I can figure out for myself what it means and I always respect the perspective from real people, like yourself. Thanks for sharing.

  22. Hmmmmm....doesn't make whole lotta sense. I spent a bunch of time with my laptop settings getting the L and R output levels to be equal when the REW generator was being used AND then came to the stark realization I would only be doing one channel at a time most of the time! So I am just going to use one of the outputs first plugged into the L channel then move that same output over to the R channel and proceed. That is what I also suggest that you try. Plug one of the outputs, as far as i know it doesn't matter which, into your left input and plug a dummy plug into the right input. You should then have absolutely no signal on the right. If you still have something on the right there is something else wrong going on. But if all is well proceed with getting the left channel set. Then switch the REW output over to the right input and put the dummy on the left. Now only the right should have signal. Proceed with getting the right channel set.

  24. I'd say that extreme left (communists) in Europe is negligable: nowhere higher than 3%. Extreme right, with roots in wwII fascism, is rising everywhere, 15% . I'm an educator and it is my moral duty to be neutral. I most of the time am. But I cannot stand dishonesty and blatant stupidity. The teacher population of Europe is a mix of right and left, mirroring the population. There is no hidden agenda...

  25. Ummmm..... I use my (flip) phone as a phone. Generally don't care to use the speaker portion of it (though it sounds fine for that intended purpose) Don't text with it, I MIGHT send a picture with it but probably less than one/two per year... Maybe I'm a bit of an odd case here since (working in the investment world) I've had one or even two phones at my desk over my entire career.... my job IS the phone (not counting face time with people). So I'm on the phone at work.... last thing I really want to do is be shackled to yet another phone when I'm away from work. so perhaps I've got a bit of a jaundiced view of phones in general and why I try to keep it simple.

  29. My favorite is Obsessive Compulsive. It gets the housework done faster. 🤣 +++ It's like the man whose wife thought she was a chicken. After a year he finally took her in to see the doctor. The doctor asked "why did you wait so long to bring her in to get help?" to which her husband replied "we needed the eggs."

  32. Thank you. I really appreciate that. It will be a while longer before I am done done. I have a small workspace, so I did not have enough room for all of the pieces to be finished all at once. Some of the trim on the rear, and decorative side pieces will be added on later. I have to go through the exact same finish process all over again. I think there are something like 11 or 12 coats of various products with curing and sanding in between each. Don't worry the rack will up and running first. I love what you did there. Tubing is great, feet are a nice touch, the dimensions are definitely custom. I know that maple butcherblock is not cheap either. I went through a lengthy process trying to match oak to walnut with the "Flexy" racks I built for my other system. I also needed something custom for integration across the front wall. Here is a pic to my other systems diy racks.

  35. I heard the new Cornwall lV’s at RMAF today. I was somewhat skeptical going in but I must say they sound fantastic. Really great midrange resolution and very tight controlled bass. I have modded my Cornwall 1’s and they are sounding really good to me but the new cornwalls are definitely a step up.

  36. Replaced most all of the small electrolytic on the power supply board and main board over the last few days. I didn't replace the two 42,000uf PS caps though. Most all of the caps were 15 to 20% over spec but there were a couple that didn't even read on my Fluke. That would explain why one channel had kind of worked and the other was noisy. Bottom line, amp is hooked up and working.

  41. You keep maintaining that there is no difference, yet 63% heard a difference. Not not only did they hear a difference, but they had a clear preference. Based on the outcome, my advice would be for beginners to take a hard look at the Berhinger amps, which by the way actually have a pretty good reputation. Notice that they did not use a POS low tier HT receiver. Those remaining 10 are just deaf. They thought they could hear, but they can’t. We can only pity them.
