  4. Just a little historical note on the Empire Troubadour 598 turntable: When I first started working at Klipsch in 1976, the turntable used in the listening/demo room over in the office building was the 598, even though, the 698 had already started being marketed where I had been overseas a month or so earlier. I'll never forget PWK walking into that room with a number of us "new employees" there to listen, as he turned on the system, letting everything "warm-up" for the demo...and jokester guy that he was, rolled the volume control up with nobody noticing. He leaned over, lifted the Empire 598 dust cover and swiped his finger across the stylus to remove the "dust bunny" from it, as the EXTREMELY LOUD sound of that coming outta the K-horns shocked everyone in the room! Then, PWK slyly said with a large grin "The first thing to do is clean your needle and get any dust knocked off of the woofer cones!"😉

  5. Mornin' All Winding up this bag of Peruvian. Next up Sumatran. Was half tempted to get some Kauai... one problem. It's dirt coffee.... ground. No like ground coffee. dropped $100 at the store and came out with one bag. $40 gas. $40 tobacco, $10 coffee and a handful of edible stuff. The gas will last for quite a while. The car doesn't [much] leave town. It goes to the dump [some day it will stay there]. Out to gather wood and, if I have time, to the lake. I do not recall the last time I fueled her up. It really needs to be run more than the 5 miles I give it. That's only when I go to the dump. I take a little cruise. The coffee shop and back. Wheeeeeeee. Used to get a lot of miles when I was working. Now I have to run it to keep the battery up.

  6. Doing fine thanks.....busy week. Abandoned the ADC tone arm project and ended up buying a new Rega/Moth arm. Required drilling the plinth and that made me nervous. Then the arm kept taking an abrupt right skipping across the record. Had to set the anti skate to zero, fool with the counter weight and finally victory. I'm getting to old for this vinyl sh*t. Second slushie and LF just went upstairs to practice billiards. Going to be a long night.

  7. Meanwhile...two weeks for running an admissions cheating scam for rich kids to get into the best schools without merit. What parent wouldn't do two weeks standing on their heads for that? Not the full of integrity folks here of course but speaking in general....

  17. In 1996 for the KLF-30. The market trend was pushing hard for speakers with a smaller footprint. Tall narrow deep speakers were in vogue. Electronics were coming standard with subwoofer outputs. Multi channel at home was a finally a real thing. Big old box speakers seemed very old fashioned. Kind of like how old muscle cars were getting dumped at the same time. LOL.

  21. Your memory is good. Change left in the seat of the car can leave a mark. Don't park your motorcycle on asphalt. The kickstand will sink into it. Don't wanna leave tools in the sun, either. I remember that from working in Tucson/GreenValley. We don't see 100` [very often].

  24. Classé doesn't seem to get that much attention on the Klipsch forums which is a shame. I've mentioned it many times that Classé is among my very favorite solid-state amplifiers. Performance-wise, Classé doesn't take a back seat to any of the brands mentioned above and may actually be preferable in some (maybe all) cases. Some mention the tube-like qualities and I have to agree -- the smoothness of this amp approaches tubes. While I still prefer tubes, I've wondered to myself what I'd miss if I just went solid-state for the convenience. The answer -- I could live very happily with Classé. Classé is a great match for Klipsch Heritage. The great thing about Classé is the value you get, especially when buying used. I currently own two of their amplifiers. While I use tubes for two-channel, I use a multi-channel Classé amp for home theater. $1000 is a GREAT price for this model and a better value than what I paid for my own Classé multi-channel amp! This amp can be configured for 6, 5, 4 and 3-channels. If I didn't already have my other Classé amplifiers, I would buy this in a heartbeat!

  26. no this is factory and as designed you don't need more damping inside the cabinet the passive will provide you with all your deep bass. If you want lower bass you can re tune the passive by adding more weight, no more than 2.5 ounces in the form of large steel flat washers mounted to the centre of the passive inside.

  30. Price is net to me. Emotiva USP-1 line stage preamplifier with amazing MM/MC phono stages. This was surprisingly one of the better preamps I’ve used under 1,000.00 dollars with so many features. I have the original very nice solid steel remote also and I might have the original box. Everything is spotless. It was used in a low hour second system very briefly. 300.00 shipped in the lower 48

  31. I was hunting around for some examples of how Roy teaches and explains things. I remembered this: He talks about specifics of the product, but he also talks about general concepts related to drivers, crossovers; he talks about what Paul wanted to do; he talks about Paul's notebooks, "M Derived" filters. and a whole lot about the importance of crossover design for specific drivers. I don't know that Roy will talk about any of these things in his class in October, it is just a general example of how he can explain things so even I understand it. He starts talking about technical concepts @1:30 into the video. I thought it was a good reminder of how Roy packs a lot of information in short statements. If you have never seen it, or it has been awhile, it is worth a look. "It has Paul's fingerprints all over it, I'm just his right hand man. I wish he could have heard it. I think he would be pleased." Roy Delgado, aka Chief Bonehead.

  39. it is different. instead of suffocating from the humidity, we get a gentle sear from the inside out. The high humidity is tough, I won't deny that. Semi-dehydrated is normal state. I gained a couple lbs of water while I was in Indiana. Plumped up like a raisin. Feels like fall is coming. I'll be doing some fuel wood cutting this year. I kinda like doing a little. Can't cut much if I am using the Olds to haul it. I always see BorderPatrol when I go cutting. I expect to see them. I'm w/i a few miles of the border. They see the beater car, trunk open and a gas can... Ask if I need some help. Yeah, see the wood up there? Never gotten any takers. They do make me feel more comfortable. They will tell me if I might see UDIs. The travelers, I don't worry. It is the smugglers. Don't wanna be the guy with a chainsaw at a gunfight.

  44. Thanks for re-stating this. There have been a number of similar discussions in the tubes section. At 6 feet from LSs, 1/2 wpc will provide around a 100 db level. So, a 5 wpc amp will provide 10 db of headroom which I can't possibly imagine would not be enough at that level. Going to a 50 wpc amp to get things up to 120 db seems totally insane to me (I know that the high power SS guys disagree with this). Single ended amps are wonderful in that their distortion is directly proportional to output power. An amp which has, say, 2% thd at 5 watts out will have distortion in the range of the best SS amps when delivering 1/2 watt. One needs to tailor the amp to the individual system needs as opposed to going for a blanket recommendation. And, in the case of low power amps, the monetary savings can be substantial. Maynard
