  11. Just because an amp is "capable" of a certain level doesn't mean you are going to use it, especially with high efficiency Klipsch......Statements that XXX wattage is too high is misleading. If you can get a good deal on the speakers, do it.

  13. We have 8 ... no 10 cats, now. Most are rescue/feral/strays. We have some "regular" ferals that come by. Spend a day or two and move one, until the next time. The last 2 we got were bottle babies. They're rippin' and tearin' the house up now. Their eyes were just open when we ended up with them. Half of our cats are getting old/er One is 18, a 12yr old and a couple of 11's. we did have some "pet" skunks. They lived here. Ate with the cats. Played with them, too. They would [try to] come in the house. The cats would come in... and the skunk would jump in line. Worked twice.... I relocated them when we had an uptick in rabies locally.

  14. @ebrandon sorry but as you can see, you fell into the alien world of speaker cable discussions on this forum. The real answer likely is ... spend what you are comfortable with but really do be careful not to get sucked into the marketing hype. If you can hear a difference great, but don't buy based on what others say or the marketing brochure claims. This might be, in competition with capacitors, the biggest sink hole in audio spending. Good luck with your decision and I hope you have gotten the answer you were looking for (not likely).

  15. I have thought about pointing my S-MWM's out the rollup door later this year and letting them rip. Upper 90's has been sufficient for me although I have put on protection and turned the MCM 1900 stacks up as loud as my amp would go for some people who wanted to hear that. It was loud through the hearing protection and after a few minutes I turned it down as I figured they had no idea what that could be doing to their hearing. Yes you could watch things move on the tables in the shop.

  18. Holy criminy I might just do this. We need to crank it up to test it. You know I’ve been thinking about a dual stack split, and if we use yours and I bring the sub, I can try it without risk. Can I skip the dog and bring@hornographic? I promise I won’t have him wear a dress.

  19. Strap your THTLP on top of you hybrid, the dog in the front seat (leave the outfit at home) and swing on over. We are both curious as to how 4 LSIs and a proper folder horn sub will sound outside without neighbors. You know how to find me.

  25. Aero was my first favorite band from about jr high on, saw them for the "Rocks" tour and the next four after that. Got worn out with Phil's solo stuff in the 80s. This LP is a trip to somewhere else... not a bad quality vid above kick back like my day off today @oldtimer and give it a shot, it's well composed and well done! Not my run of the mill normal stuff but I haven't done normal for decades now!

  28. Gen 2 soon to be released (late Oct.). SC-1 Mini can be preordered for less than $1400. Now if I just had a phone to use as a remote. Both stores said they are the bomb. Buy 50 cent records at yard sale or thrift store, clean them up and go. All those album collections I have been given may start a new life.

  29. * so are speakers similar to cars in the 60’s and 70’s that run carburetors and we used the excuse to “blow it out” for doing the ton - and over - . Maybe; I did see a puff of dust coming from the bin when “ blowing them out” one day” —

  30. Same here, also part of why I like big speakers, they sound big even low, with the detail. But it is nice to let them breathe on occasion, for a whole different affect.

  32. I have bought dozens of records from Amazon, and also have returned a few. It's pretty much a no hassle event to return them. One thing to watch out for though, Amazon likes to "repackage" returned items. I have received a coupe lp's that had a different plastic wrap on them. Luckily they played fine. I use an ultrasound cleaner on all my lp's before I play them, and hardly have a noise issue. And yes, my vinyl sounds way better than my cd collection!

  33. Yeah I was thinking to mention those but $30,000 6' pieces of wire still won the day for insanity for me. Capacitors are really good at starting pleasant conversations though.

  34. Funny you say that. The bigger my speakers get the more I find my level at 80 to 85db since I want to hear all the detail I can. Poor recordings or lesser speakers and turn it up was the rule for a long time here. Now I do still turn some things up but rarely past 95db. With metal walls and large flat hard surfaces everywhere loud is the enemy of fidelity in my shop.

  35. sure glad I don't worry about water ... except have or not our water has some minerals. Nothing like sulfur. I don't conserve too much. Been told to "save" water for 50 years. Ya know who isn't saving our water? The govt. They keep allowing more houses and giving them the water I "saved". We are way beyond overdraft... A long time ago. The indigenous population showed how many can survive w/o supplementing water. rant over I see CocaCola has introduced a new energy drink. Kinda come full circle. Struck me as a little ironic. Didn't Coke start out as an elixir to help with "the blues"?

  36. Note that the SPL levels are in terms of dBA; music SPLs should probably be measured in dBC (or dBZ, if your meter offers that option). C weighting takes (nearly) full account of the bass in the program, whereas A weighting rolls it off and underestimates it ( Z weighting treats all frequencies equally). If an orchestral climax is measured by two SPL meters, side by side, one set for A weighting and one set for C, the one set for C will read higher, because it is counting the bass, but the OSHA tables use A weighting.... cirrusresearch A big bass drum, timpani, or kick drum beat may measured too low by as much as 20 dB/ 25 dB if using A weighting. 42. Congratulations on your beautiful rosewood-oiled K-horns!! Now, let's make them SOUND beautiful! PRIOR TO stuffing those K-horns into the corners, you NEED TO CLEAN ALL OF THE CONTACTS on the speakers...ESPECIALLY the crossover networks. ONE AT A TIME, remove a wire from its contact, clean the contact and the wire end connecter, then replace and move onto the next one. EVERY CONNECTION, to include where the wire meets the drivers, if not soldered! Be sure not to ignore the connectors in the bass bin!...and where the connector on the bass bin hatch is...remove it, clean it good, and screw it back on, tight! While you have things open in the bass bin check the screws securing the woofer to the motor-board and ensure they are tight. NEXT, ensure your Midrange compression driver is unscrewed from its K400 horn lens, and REPLACE the red rubber gasket , and screw the driver into place again HAND TIGHT!...NOT just FINGER TIGHT! If the bass bin hatch panel needs a new gasket, then clean it up and install one! More people than you can count tend to find that on older speakers they have purchased, when they have actually CLEANED all the connections, many of their complaints about performance just seem to have disappeared! Trust me on this. The midrange driver-to-horn lens rubber gasket is probably hard as a rock and needs to be replaced with a new pliable one so that it can seal properly. I will bet that a good part of your Midrange issue is ALSO due to the old gasket under your mid-range driver in the horn lens....if it isn't sealing properly! Trust me on this! NO NEED TO REPLACE a good AA network with a different network on any speaker shipped with an AA, IMHO! At worst, the AA's just need connectors cleaned and maybe caps changed out. Do all of this PRIOR to stuffing into a corner, unless you actually ENJOY lugging all that weight around! Just use high percentage rubbing alcohol for cleaning your electrical contacts...and lots of q-tips! TOO EASY! BTW...there is a thing called "dielectric grease", which CONDUCTS electricity, and also keeps connections from corroding and such...thereby eliminating the need to clean contacts more often...you can find it in auto parts stores in small tubes...use this after cleaning the contacts, but prior to re-connecting things on all of your screw-down connecting surfaces...apply with q-tips! No need to replace the network caps NOW, just clean things up and listen to them before you let UPGRADE-ITIS take over! The AA network is the best network for what your speakers are, IOW....it is what they came with and were tested with! All the later networks also tended to come with changes in the drivers or horn lenses....or both!

  44. I appreciate the input guys, well i bit the bullet, and last Saturday i drove 3 hours to Des Moines and purchased an amp,i ended up buying the Carver M1.5t , he came off the price quite a bit so i went for it, supposed to be 350 wpc, i couldn't wait to get back home and get it hooked up, of course this is my first experience with any amplifiers, i am blown away and disappointed at the same time lol, i was figuring on it being louder than i could possibly stand sense i went from 110 wpc to 350 wpc, but that doesn't seem to be the case, but holy @$$$=÷#$</÷!!!, i have never heard the low end on these epics! Wooow! It knocked a set of keys and a picture off of the fireplace mantel DOWN STAIRS in our bedroom! I don't really need the sub with this kind of bottom end, as far as being louder, it might be a couple of db's louder, I'm disappointed, i do understand, so I'm told, it takes serious power to gain just a few db's, but i did more than double it, don't get me wrong, it's freaking scary loud! But i can have the top lights on the meter blinking and they say (600 watts rms headroom exausted ) and seem like they just want more power, it's mostly the bass drum and low frequencies that makes the meter lights touch the headroom exausted level, and that's about half volume on the reciever, on parts of a song where things change and the lights are only moving about half of the scale you can add some volume until you get close to the headroom exausted and then the loudness or db's have got to be dangerously loud! But it is just as clear as if it were at half the volume! It's probably a good thing im running out of amp, because i know there would be times i would turn it up just a little more! If these version 3's are the worst of them i sure would love to hear the first versions some day! Im sure I'll hear the goods and the bads about all of this, but i just had to tell people like myself who still enjoy listening to their music loud, like it was meant to be!
