  2. I drew up some house plans once which would have cost me 3 million dollars. I looked in my bank account and I didn't have 3 million dollars. I wanted to buy a new 100,000 dollar mid engined Corevette too. I looked in my bank account and I didn't have 100,000 dollars. I settled for a cup of coffee at McDonalds. JJK

  3. I’ve had Khorns, and loved them. That said, I would not try to build them. IMO, the complexity is not offset by the benefits. I would build horn or tapped horn subs to supplement your La Scalas. If you haven’t seen the Volvotreter site, I suggest you check it out. IIRC, a set of Khorn bass bin metric plans can be downloaded at the site. http://wp.volvotreter.de/projects/th-2/ He built a Khorn bass bin years ago to use as a subwoofer but has since graduated to tapped horn subs. Another longtime Khorn lover who would never make one, or even own one, is the forum’s own Claude @ClaudeJ1. He may offer useful advice. I admire anyone with the skill and patience to build a complex Khorn bass bin. It makes some sense in your situation where used Khorn bass bins are relatively scarce. It makes no sense to me in US. Whatever you do, please share your process and results.

  4. Decided to offer my MR78 tuner for sale. This was McIntosh's flagship tuner and for good reason. It really must be seen and heard to appreciate. The wood case and tuner itself are in beautiful condition, as can be seen in the photos. All functions work perfectly, including all the lamps. I bought this from the original owner here locally. This has never been serviced since it was purchased new, yet still functions perfectly and used on a weekly basis throughout it's lifetime. 100% original. The wood case was purchased new with the tuner. Original factory McIntosh box included with all the original packing material. Factory issued owners manual, service manual and other paperwork included. Probably one of the cleanest MR78's you will run across. SOLD

  5. Pair of Klipsch Epic CF 1 floor standing speakers, excellent condition. Awesome sound, bass reflex port design, I'm the original owner, with cherry wood finish and original paperwork. Originally I listed as CF-2, but I found the original Klipsch papers with serial numbers 299598762 & ...763 and CF-1 Cherry labels. 6.5" woofers, 2.5" long port tube. Full specs available here: http://images.klipsch.com/Brochure_940900_epic_635164772854408000.pdf Also have Yamaha RX-V490 AV surround sound receiver that came with the speakers. Works great. With remote and manual, included with speakers for the right price. Specs here: https://www.cnet.com/products/yamaha-rx-v490-av-receiver-5-1-channel/ Bonus BSR McDonald 310 AXE multi-changer turntable, works well, with extra needles and original paperwork. In MDF support box. Speakers and receiver hardly used - they were won on the Price Is Right from Bob Barker in the late 1990s - in great condition waiting for next audiophile owner. Located in Point Loma (San Diego) CA. Local pickup preferred. $350/obo.

  8. I-0! Breaking today in Cbus. Chase Young out until he's re-instated by the NCAA. This is from my friend Jeff Snook: "Below is a statement from Chase Young himself ... if this is the entire story as he claims, and he in fact repaid the loan and has proof, even if the “family friend” is an agent, I would guess he would be reinstated soon, according to NCAA precedent. Also, bear in mind, the last thing the NCAA wants to do now is harshly punish a high-profile player for violating a rule related to agents that will soon be abolished or at least amended within a few years anyway. And given Maryland and Rutgers are next on Ohio State’s schedule, the biggest effect of a one- or two-game suspension will be on his Heisman Trophy candidacy, rather than the CFB playoff race." Next man up! Four good ones behind him! 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂

  10. The wonderful smell of burning rubber and that lovely ground pounding noise and the sheer unbridled demonstration of testosterone would be enough for me. The bugging out of eyeballs would be another plus. Asuming one had the money to do this as that guy has a lot tied up in that monster. Better than Wilson speakers or fru fru B&W's for true to life live sound kind of like what Klipsch is known for. My neighbors on the other hand don't live so close but they know I am around when the Tanerite goes off.

  11. Some do; some don't where I live. Not one of my neighbors. Too much volume shaking things and I get a knock on the door as I usually can't hear the phone when blasting Rock and Roll or a loud movie (especially in THX) is playing. The initial scene in the movie Predator with the Chopper landing was not very well received next door! 🙉 Wb

  16. It depends on how badly you want them, how close they are to you, and if the veneer fits within your interior. The upgrades are pretty standard and would likely be completed upon purchase anyway, so that saves you a bit of work. Personally I think they are a bit high, but then I don't live in E. Washington/W. Idaho.....

  19. Those appear to be the Version 1, which are more in demand with the Epic series speakers. You can verify that by measuring the port tubes, and also with the serial number, which would show them manufactured early to later part of 1994. May not help the value much, but probably would spark more interest. They also have the 2" midrange/tweeter driver, although I do not know if it is the same driver as their big brothers, the CF-3s and CF-4s. I would also mention that. I have the 3s and the 4s and absolutely love both; one of the best Klipsch has produced to date! Interesting story about The Price is Right! I think it is a good deal for the package; GLWS Rick

My KEF LS50 Wireless are so much better once you use the KEF App to choose wether they are wall mounted, desk mounted or stand mounted and the differences between a life room and a fairly dead room and setting up crossover frequencies. Without those setting being right I think they sound mediocre. Setup correctly the music they reproduce is stunning. They punch well above their wight.

  23. I have worked shift work, for over 35 years! I started at 21,and seeing the new hires they are getting, the old guys can’t move due to lack of experience. I work around chemicals that are far from good for you. I have been lucky enough to make very good money and have 2 good pensions coming my way. If I thought I would have to work until my mid 60s,they could shoot me now! I may smoke some meat for friends or get a job at a guy I knows car wash a few days a week but I most likely won’t. I can take a drive, thru the bottoms, or go camping down the road and be happy. Less than two years to go and I can’t wait!!!!

Hotel hobbies padding dawns hollow corridors A typewriter cackles out a stream of memories Dryin' out a conscience, evictin' a nightmare Openin' the doors for the dreams to come home We live out lives in private shells Ignore our senses and fool ourselves To thinkin' that out there there's someone else cares Someone to answer all our prayers, all our prayers Are we too far gone, are we so irresponsible? Have we lost our balls or do we just not care? We're terminal cases that keep takin' medicine? 29. I used these from Parts Express. The KP201s are now mounted to blue block between the aluminum frame and the acoustical panel. The speaker in the bottom photo is upside down with respect to how it was ultimately mounted. Looking through the grill you can see that the tweeter is at the bottom when mounted.

  30. I made some small baffles to hold some eminence apt50 drivers and horns to replace my LaScala tweeters. I placed them on the back of the cabinets to align them with the k55 mids. Seriously better. While the alignment between the bass and mids would also make a difference, it is more apparent when done with the mid and tweeter. More detail at the crossover point, better imaging, less harsh and fatiguing. Cost is minimal . If you try with new tweeters/horns, you can leave originals in place while you try the new ones. Bruce

  31. Yep, me, with spectacular results. Stock Speaker: Khorn 1979, Type AA XO. K-77 tweets, K-55-V mid. New XO: Crites A/4500 Lowers the XO point of the tweeter from 6000 Hz to 4500 Hz. The result is that instead of getting squeaks and squawks out of the tweeter now you are getting complete notes and full sounds. External horn: SEOS 12" Waveguide, by Denovo. One inch throat. For comparison my CF-4 horn (2-way) is 12" wide. Compression Driver: Denovo DNA-360. The driver has a 1.4" diaphragm. This mid/tweeter handles 80 watts and goes down to about 1200 Hz. This combo is gigantic compared to the puny K-77 tweeter. The output is likewise much more dynamic. Time alignment: Per previous posts I had read about time alignment I put the SEOS directly above where the throat of the K-55V mid was. I could not hear any difference between that and OEM in terms of time but there are a lot of variables. Why the new parts: I just happened to have an extra A/4500 XO ($180 pr used) and the SEOS waveguide ($28 each) w/DNA-360 ($80 ea) from a DIY speaker I had built. I threw this together not to correct a problem, but just for fun. Look for parts via DIYSoundgroup. PE used to carry the drivers and SEOS but it looks like they don't any more. If you do the same mods I did, get the 10" SEOS ($23 ea) instead of the 12". I think it would make a better HF driver. AVR: Marantz 6011, 125 wpc tested in Stereo mode. Listening Test: I like jazz and I test speakers with a horn line, percussion and piano. also with male and female vocals. The results stunned me. The Khorns sound fantastic as-is. The new parts (all installed at the same time) made everything sound better, everywhere in the mid to upper frequencies. The sound was more articulate, MUCH more dynamic, and MUCH more exciting. I don't have any charts and graphs to back this up, and the WAF forced me to sell them, still my single greatest regret in audio. The bottom line was these were Khorns on steroids, a Super Khorn. I easily recommend these mods to anyone.

  33. I think James Franklin would be a fool to leave PSU. They like him, he is comfortable there, and personally I think he's a very good coach. Rumour mill also has it that Lane Kiffin is interested in the FSU job. As far as I'm concerned, they can have him, he's a jerk and has no sense of loyalty. And, guess what...USC also has Urban "Don't mind at all if you beat your wife, and I'll be sure to look the other way and then lie about it..." Meyer on their radar. Good, then he will leave TV as a supposed analyst at which he really sucks at.

  34. I would be fine with that. IMO, and as I've stated before, I don't think he's a great coach or hires great assistants. I think he's done a decent job of recruiting, but beyond that, I've never thought he was the final answer. More power to him if they want to pay him the big $$ to go, but I'm fine with PSU making a change if that happens.

  35. This is a forum whose primary purpose is the sharing of information. That is what I've done. As mentioned previously, I've met them in person. They are die-hard Klipsch fans. I enjoyed my conversation with them as I typically do with others that share my interest in audio and Klipsch speakers. I think they do great work, like that they are bringing old Klipsch speakers back to life, and hope that they do well enough to keep their business going. I shared their photos here because of their outstanding work and figured others here would also enjoy seeing them (if not owning them). I'd have to assume I was correct because as of today this thread has been viewed over 14,000 times. 🙂

  36. Thanks @Dave A and @JohnA - the Cornwalls were actually not even on my radar but it seems like they deserve an audition for sure. I have heard the Cornwall IIIs and they did not match or exceed the listening experience with my La Scala IIs. I've owned or still own Heresy IIIs, La Scala IIs, and for a brief time the Forte IIIs (and heard the Cornwall IIIs). The La Scala IIs are the closest to "live" I have ever heard which is why I love them so much and I'm interested in wringing out that last 3% with a potential upgrade (without losing what I love about the LSIIs). I want to mention, when I talk about "aesthetic" I'm not some lifestyle-only guy who needs my speakers to match my bookshelves, etc. There are much "prettier" speakers than the La Scala IIs for example. Hell I consider both my 70th Anniversary Indian rosewood Heresy IIIs and piano ebony Monitor Audio Golds to be better looking than the La Scala. But they will never measure up when it comes to sound! When I sit down in my room to listen to music, it's usually after a 10-12 hour work day and I have a couple hours to relax and do some critical listening... surroundings and aesthetic is a factor in that. I don't want to sit in a bare room with speaker wire hanging everywhere, I just want to "feel good" about the experience and calm down my brain. This is a dedicated media room, not a living room or other shared space in the house. So I'm not trying to appease a spouse or anything like that. To some degree, looking at Jubilees kind of struck me as a very industrial speaker that honestly kind of looks like one of those early 90's rear projection TVs. All that being said, if I listen to them and they knock my socks off then I am sure I could make them work in this room. On the other hand I feel like it's worth checking out all my options and weighing them against each other. I am in southwest VA by the way, so unfortunately I don't know of any Jubilees in the area. I am going to Capital Audiofest next weekend and perhaps will be able to hear the Cornwall IVs and new Klipschorns.
