  2. I'm lurking.....just quiet I guess. Early planning stage for enlarging the media room at LF's place so I can bring one of my systems here rather than driving to my place to play tunes. Watching a youtube series by the guy from PS Audio as he builds a new listening room.

  6. When I was on active duty, we had to take turns doing public events. One event, it was HOT and the ceremony was LONG. I was holding the American Flag and my buddy next to me has a rifle. He whispers that he’s going to pass out. I tell him to bend his knees and hang in there, that the ceremony has to be almost over. He didn’t last much longer. he broke rank and went and sat down, opting to do that rather than pass out. This old man, WWII era, comes out of the audience, grabs the rifle and joins our formation. That was so cool. To see someone with so much pride that he’s motivated to do that was really cool to experience. People can do some really neat things when they accept that there are things bigger than themselves.

  9. I have to go to Tucson next week. I may take the Olds. People give it some space and when you put your turn signal on, they scatter. The old girl looks all of her 31 years. Still runs great. 30mpg isn't bad. It uses a little oil. When it's a quart down, it is time for an oil change anyway. What scares me about the car is the freeze plugs. Had one rot out. We could get at it. The others?????? fwiw I enjoy driving. If I lived on the eastern seaboard, I don't think I would drive. So much traffic. I'm spoiled. Traffic? Worst we see is behind the school buses in the AM.... The 25 mile drive from the interstate to here is relaxing. Just watch for cows standing in the road.

  11. My late-Uncle was at Normady in WWII. He told of the landing craft doors opening and immediate enemy fire. When i saw Saving Private Ryan and the same thing happened as he had described, it was chilling. He had basically described the beginning of that movie to me back in the early-mid 70s. When i was a kid his stories were so exciting that i remember saying, “I hope there is a war when i turn 18.” At about age 15 or 16 his stories changed and i remember saying, “I sure hope that i never have to go to war.” Some of the things he went through and witnessed are simply mind-boggling. I remember sitting in his living room asking him how close was he to an enemy shooting at him. He said, “maybe here to across the street,” which was probably about 50 feet away. Look out your front window ... i Can’t imagine being on one side of the street and having an army on the other side shooting at me. I told him that i’d just walk alongside a tank and he said that they avoided the tanks as much as possible because they drew the heavy artillery fire. He’d rather take his chances against a man with a rifle.

  14. Until we end a season where there are multiple major conference champs left out of the playoff, nothing is going to change. I would be of the camp to get rid of conference championships all together and take number of playoff teams up and try and figure out a better way to schedule non conference games. I love college football but IMO, teams that drop some games early get penalized even if by seasons end, they are playing at a level to win a championship and schedules are set too far in advance where you have Clemson/Bama getting ridiculed for their easy schedule and in most cases, forcing them to run the table, or at least in Clemson's case. it won't be easy to ever get it perfect, but to me, more teams in the playoffs equal more excitement and a hell of a lot more teams still in the hunt in November. 4 teams with 5 major conferences was flawed to begin with and the other conferences don't have a prayer at ever getting to compete.

  17. Made a big effort to see this. Between travel, DC hotel prices, food/drinks, etc. I bet I have the better part of $1k in it. Long but in a good way. More relationship driven than violence like Casino or Goodfellas. Cool art house type theater with good sound. Well acted and we'll shot. Lots of good Michigan references (Red Fox @DizRotus) so that was cool. Pachino maybe the weak spot as Hoffa. Great costumes and old cars. Great dinner and fun Friday away from the house with my wife. Worth every penny and the effort to see it. I couldn't imagine streaming it on a tablet. This movie deserves a big screen. Go see it while at the theaters.

  21. I have stories.... at one ranch, they dropped a load of cows that weren't familiar with the area.... they stood in the road for 2 weeks. After the first 5 encounters, you learned to expect them. I learned how to persuade cows to move out of your way. This is gonna sound dangerous/stupid.... gently nudge them with your car. They won't notice anything less.

No kid this AM. Or last night. Seems quiet. we got a fertilizer delivery the other day. The cows are in town and dropped a load in front of the house. They do weed control. Graze vacant and unfenced property [the park] in addition to easement.. You can opt out. No permit for fences required.

  24. @DizRotus & Thank You! That is powerful, it doesn't hurt that Mr. Elliott has that voice as big as Texas and the demeanor to match it. Good actor! And Sgt. Lambert he's a very strong guy. In the past they all seem to have had fortitude and attitudes similar to his. Hope there are some more out there now that aspire to be even half the man he is. I'm going to pull this up on my phone and send the link to my Uncle retired from the Army. He flew, led and trained Blackhawk pilots at KingFahd & FtCampbell.

This is a great pair, with Dean G built( DHA-2 networks designed by John Albright ) I spoke to Deang about these and sent him a picture, he says These are a Modified AA's with a band pass and a slightly different tweeter filter, these were built with PPT Theta caps (great caps). . I love them but need more room in the shop so a few things gotta go. I built one false corner that can go with these. PRICE DROP, $2300 picked up Dexter, ME

  32. because I am cheap free spotify... ads one for ScanDigital sounds like ad for the place in TotalRecall [1st version, Ahnold] where you buy memories of a vacation... just the way the say they will digitize your memories [vhs, pics...] for a lifetime of sharing, or something. Might be the tone combined with content. Struck me as odd "Get your memories back in digital form" just in time for the holidays.

  33. That movie was the first I think that I heard the true sound of the high caliber lead flying close by. I've heard from my best friends (60s & 70s) dad about him fighting nazis when he was a teen in Greece. This 90+ year old is more of a patriot than most here under 40! My mom's oldest brother about cleaning his friend (driver) out of the Jeep so he could return to wherever he'd come from in nam. Then this uncle that was affected by sadamn's gas shells at that base in the desert. So much that we'll never know about sacrifices that veterans have made for our FREEDOM!!

  34. anyone can sell/ accept money. Some people may ask that you send as family/friends (this takes away any protection). As a seller I worry more about using pp than as a buyer. pp will always side with the buyer even when the buyer is a crook.

  38. I would hope that the loser would move out of the top 4 and Clemson would be moved up with a win. Way too early to be upset with initial rankings, a lot of ball to play and huge match ups that will shift things around a lot over the next month. All Clemson has to do is win and there in, and that doesn't look to be difficult. Really, they should be pretty healthy and fresh when it's playoff time, given their schedule, but the game with South Carolina can always turn into a wildcard.

  39. Think about this......IMHO Quartets perform at about 80-85% of Forte II's.....smaller footprint, sound great, don't overwhelm the current interior requirements of the current generation AND the major growing BOOMER generation who are in the process of downsizing.....so why wouldn't they be gaining in value?

  43. As a teen I had a 1229 and loved it. Over the years it needed repairs and before the internet started cranking I couldn’t find anywhere to get it repaired and must have tossed it- like an idiot. I had a lot of vinyl and some music that was not available anywhere else so I decided to search Ebay and get another 1229. Found a local vintage repair place that was not honest and wasted $$$ having them attempt to restore. Fortunately there was a guy in LA area that was a vintage repair guru with great yelp reviews so I got it to him and he made it like brand new for not much $. I found a shure v15 type 3 and ordered a highly rated stylus from Japan and had a new plinth made and this turntable sounds really great playing thru the phono stage of my ma252- besides sounding awesome anyone that comes to our house wants to know about vinyl and that turntable.
