  1. Ciao a tutti, this Is my first post here. I've just bought this pair of La Scala from an old man who owns It since 1976. He was a seller of Klipsh loudspeakers in Torino and for himself he asked for a particular style and color. He said that Everything Is original (AA crossover and alnico components) and these beauties have been since 1976 in the same position in his house... The sound Is wanderful. I'm using a valve integrated amplifier with 2a3. What do you think about this 'belle" style? Grazie!

  3. Okies the Mani is on the way to Cali and should be there Friday so we'll see what happens. Plugged in an old CD player and just slipped in Floyd's Wish you were Here. It's spins and I have sound so that works I guess. Ugh! Now sittin here toyin w/the idea of streaming again only because, as we all know, I'm worthless! I'd be sooo pathetic w/an ipad full of good stuff just pushin buttons. Can always go into the up and down mode of albums too! Ok, back to reality!

  4. Glad you got it solved. This thread literally made me rearrange my Cornwalls so that I rarely if ever need the sub. I had them way to far from the back wall (3 feet) as I didn't think I could make the whole setup fit on the wall. After playing with gear and rack a bit, made it work. What a difference. They need soem distance in between and I have them ON the Wall and touching the corners and they sound PERFECTLY balanced even with grilles on (that is with Dave A's tweeter swap though). I do like me some Cornwalls in my room

  6. People that tag their "for sale" listings with things that don't even come close to representing what you're looking for. To all of the people that put their POS Blose speakers or any other garbage with a Klipsch tag, a big F off. I just sent another reply to an offender just really letting them know what I think about them. So how's your day going and what really lit your fire today?

  7. No, I pretty much meant what I said. He can certainly put whatever he wants on his speakers. I can certainly have my opinion.

  8. I had a peak power meter on my Khorns about 40 years ago when I first got them. I sold off my 200 watt amplifiers for 75 watt amplifiers. On most days, from vinyl sources of course, I was measuring 2 watt peaks when played at "normal/loud" levels. PWK told me average power was 1/4 watt in a Khorn. He was right about all of that. Stupid loud was when the PEAKS reached about 10 watts per channel. Since you hardly ever encounter more than 10-20 db peaks from most recording today (30 db peaks for live music throught a PA system) this means a 10 watt amp, indoors can handle 117 db peaks with no trouble in a pair of Khorns, Belles, or LaScalas without clipping. Since most sane people listen to music at 83 db or less (typical for modern recordings and movies), it means you are drawing under 1 Watt most of the time, with 10 db headroom above a 30 db dynamic range (unlikely in recorded anything). Even when you do on blockbuster movies, you have 5-11 channels working and most of the real POWER goes to subwoofers anyhow. PWK was correct about the "5 Watt amplifier." He also claimed about a 17 db headroom was all that was required for Symphonies, which is all he ever recorded and listened to for himself. I heard it for myself at his house and he repeated all this information for me.

  11. Hope that pre gets worked out for ya Dave. Ever buy a double album that only has three sides? Twice in the last couple a years that's happened to me. This band put an etch on the blank fourth side, not as clear in the picture but it's a wolf. If you love Southern Rock you'll know how refreshing it was to see the tv special with these guys a few years back. Was going to put up "Medicate My Mind" but this struck my fancy just now. Blackberry Smoke "Up on Cripple Creek" Play that one through... "Deep Elum Blues" follows with Billy doing some pickin'.

  15. Ciao, La Scala ara in my house since 6 days. I'm really pleased and surprised. I can't believe that something coming from a past so far (1975) can sound so good and modern. For me is incredible. I'm not a freshman in hi-fi audio world... The stage and the disposition of the instrument in the space are great. The pleasure of listening is fantastic. And the most surprising thing are the bass performance: perfect. (I'll kilck next person who say that La Scala has no bass!) I'm definitely in love.

  24. Nice. The super Heresy is a awesome speaker. I built mine last year. I would give your woofer selection a second thought. Claude just advised me to use the kappalite 3015lf4. Says it's a much better woofer than the 15c.

  28. I have La Scalas and larger (and a set of Heresy IIs). The Quartet, Forte, Chorus models are, to me perhaps more aesthetically pleasing, being a taller and slimmer package. I love the distinctive look of the La Scala, and the fully horn loaded system is the best, but they can be a bit more difficult to place in a room. I've never liked the Cornwall, but the newest could really change my mind. Enjoy the journey! Bruce

  39. Just a minor update. After moving everything around, re-positioning, I am blown away. Not only am I getting good bass, I now have amazing detail and the imaging/soundstage are so wonderful. I even had my 7 year old and baby momma tell me where they think voices, instruments are coming from when they had her eyes closed to confirm it (separately). I fully upgraded to the ALK cross overs and that just made the horns sound so rich. The listening experience went from very forward and intense to something much smoother without losing what I love about horns. I'm so happy with the setup I'm in heaven... Cheers!

  40. Speaking of control of booze...funny story. Got to Patuxent River Flight Test Center in 1990, very, very Southern Maryland. Went into "town" in my rental car, and came upon my first Drive thru liquor store, serving drinks from a drive thru window.....Vodka/tonic, 7 and 7, you name it. I was like...."Wow, I guess this is the good ole boys town...."

  41. Subs work best when they’re placed either close together for mutual coupling, or spread very wide to cover large areas. The basic rule is to have them either less than a quarter-wavelength apart or more than two wavelengths apart for their passband, which for 40 to 100 Hz means less than 2.8 feet or more than 56 feet. Visit the BFM forum if you wish to learn more.

  42. Unfortunately propping subs under mains is a no no but the proper subs for the application would be Tuba 30 or Tuba 45, both are the same horns but folded differently. These will need to be high passed @ 35 Hz unless you run 4 cabinets witch you can lower it to 30 Hz. If you need to dig a bit lower and don't mind hauling a bigger cabinet get the plans for the Tuba 60.

  43. Check out BFM website. (Bill Fitzmaurice) Folded horns galore. But you have to build'em or get someone to build for you. And maybe they're too big for your app. Bill is the source of the 'table tuba' mentioned in the post above. Forum member here @jason str was a builder but i don't know if he takes on work anymore. Certainly I won't speak for him.

  44. I think you'd have to start with the Heritage Series, if you're looking for that break point. That heart and soul will be found in the efficiency, and the horn loaded drivers, and the two go hand in hand. You mentioned you can't fit LaScalas; then you probably can't fit Cornwalls because they are even wider, albeit just about an inch. So stop dreaming about them! If you're willing to buy new, get the new Heresy IV. Rumor has it, it will be available at the end of the month. Otherwise, the Heresy III is insanely efficient and will beat the pants off any speaker similar in size. Similar size to the kg4's- find a pair of Quartets. Willing to go just slightly larger-if you want legendary, get a pair of Forte's, which are probably Klipsch's most popular, and affordable speaker.

  45. So I get home this morning and my dog is laying on my porch covered in snow and mud and has a rabbit in his mouth. He's not bloody, just dirty. Now, my neighbors raised these rabbits for 4H and have blue ribbon winners. I instantly knew it was one of theirs. So I get the rabbit away from my dog, I take it inside, wash all the dirt off and before my neighbors got home I took it over, put him back in the cage and went back home. Not 30 minutes later I hear my neighbors screaming, so I go out and ask them what's wrong? They tell me their rabbit died three days ago and they buried it but now it's back in the cage.
