  1. Try this Mr Crock Pot: Find a nice sized roast somewhere, a bag of redskin potatoes, bag of baby carrots, couple cans of Campbell's mushroom soup and 1 12 oz. can of coke. Throw in the roast, 2 cans of mushroom soup and 12 oz can of Coke (only Coke, no diet stuff) and fire it up on high for about 2 hours. Halve the taters (as many as you want) and toss the carrots in at that point for an hour or so, turn it down to low until the taters n carrots are done. Don't EVEN question the Coke either. There won't be any left. YES CHEF! (ketchup if you want it)

  5. I could do no wrong in my Grandma's eyes. When I was a little one, she used to sit me on her lap and say, "Little BigStewMan, someday those guys on the Klipsch forum will say things about you ... don't believe them -- you're a national treasure for two countries!"

  13. Oh, I know that. There is always going to be opinions vs data, and I am as just as critical of the numbers as anyone. I think sometimes it requires some more detailed analysis. My opinion doesn't always agree with the numbers either.

  15. No I don't but will say it would only get better. imo Yes that sounds good. I have to say you had the best sounding Ht I have ever heard. Even if you had to explain how to do it, NO smiling was hard to do around all of you and all of those speakers. One of Michael's sets of split LaScalas was bought a few hours from here, we picked them up for him and held them until he could get them. That was my first time hearing LaScala's and they were splits, it ruined me, from them on it was LaScalas or bigger is what I had to have. Before that the biggest I had was Forte's, which are good, but not close. Michael was also the person who called and told us there was some Forte ll's for sale an hour from us when we were looking to round up Ht speakers, it was our first pair of 4 pair. So many people here have helped us over the years, no telling what we would have without friends we met here.

  18. I just recently came across a pair of 1980 Industrial La Scalas with the fiberglass cabinents and aluminium trim. Hooked them up to my vintage Sansui G-7500 rated at 90 watts . One quarter volume will run you out of my 40ft x 45 ft living room with a 20 foot tall ceiling . So clear . Bass is way better than I expected . I'm thinking about a tube amp . Does anyone have experience with tubes and La Scallas ? Will it be much difference from my Sansui ? Any info greatly appreciated . I gave $700 for the pair . Worth every penny .

  26. "Yep" they said, "we do it all the time". In less than 5 minutes they unboxed and set up the tv for the menu screen so I could check it out. In the time it took for me to sign and date and all that they had boxed it back up for me! Nice. It's not ready for install yet. All is good.

  30. Throwing doubt or suspicion on your info was not my intention. Your numbers speak for themselves and are good for pricing. My opinion wasn't based on anything solid. I thought LSI value was similar to regular La Scalas until this thread. You don't know until you know, you know?

  31. Yes, cut the top shelf back by 2 1/2 to 3 inches max. Here's the resultant curve vs. a full size Cornwall with a K-33. I have said all along that the Midrange response of a Kappa 15C was better in a LaScala, but as you can see from the curve, the midrange portion of that woofer is better in a Cornwall too. It''s actually flatter in the bass/midbass detail in the smaller cabinet, so you WIN both ways here.

  32. What are you running for a screen, LCD or Projector? If projector, see if you can get away with running a large enough screen to hide speakers behind it. Check out@Youthman home theater. You'd never believe what is hidden behind that screen. Maybe the wife will compromise on an L/C/R and then maybe in walls for the surrounds. Just a thought. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk

  33. What is that? The coffee company? I think it is in Madison, WI. Long-time friend of mine used to be part owner. He has since moved on. I keep buying the coffee. they actually supply the coffee that goes into New Glarus coffee Stout. As for the COAs who cares...you know they are authentic that's all that matters. having a spontaneous moment like that is way better than standing in line for hours and paying somebody for their autograph, while somebody else takes the picture so you can post it on Instagram - LAME.

  35. Three ways to handle an enclosure (or horn wall) resonance: Make it so stiff that the resonant frequency is moved above the frequency range of the driver. Make it so compliant that the resonant frequency is moved below the frequency range of the driver. Make it so massive that it basically doesn't move at all.

  36. Even my homemade Quarter Pies, had an amazing bass DEFINITION with a $20 chip amp that only put our 6 watts. Eminence 15C with $200 worth of lumber, sawdust, screws, and PL Glue, and your are there, if you can afford the FOOTPRINT.

  37. The TAD is of course cleaner on impulse plots, but how that translates into differences in listening performance is perhaps not as pronounced: When I put on a really good recording of jazz or other acoustically performed music that wasn't built from multi-tracked recordings, I can just barely hear the differences in the smoothness of the upper harmonics and the definition of the cymbals, etc. It's a pretty small difference though--enough so that I can recommend either the BMS 4592ND or the TADs for highest performance reproduction. Someone with 20-year-old ears (especially women) might hear a little more difference, and particularly classically trained musicians that have spent some time training their ears to hear very small differences in timbre and attacks/releases. 40. You've been tripped up by believing the one measurement that wasn't calibrated. In order for me to actually produce 112 dB, I'd have to change the gain structure of my AVP (pre-amp) and the downstream amplifiers, since it currently runs out of gain at about 106 db at one metre using a sine wave input at the level of that input channel from the laptop. Since I took the higher SPL measurements with the Jubs, I've recalibrated the REW microphone input to match the hand-held SPL meter readings as part of my measurement procedure. In the past, I found the REW microphone calibration dialogue to be very misleading, resulting in the higher apparent readings at that time. I've always used the hand-held SPL to make sure that my measurements were calibrated to the right SPL. Chris

  41. Port flaring only minimizes what most would call "port chuff". The geometry of the ports inside the horn are a different story than just bass reflex porting. There the trade off is between horn radiating area and providing sufficient port area to keep the port chuff down to inaudible levels and to smooth the response. Since there is horn gain present in the ports inside the horn, much less air is required to produce a certain SPL than if the port was located outside the horn. So ports inside horns can be smaller. If you look around at off-axis ports inside all multiple entry horns, you might notice that the none of the ports are flared inside the horn. The reason is that the horn surface area and horn surface profile is much more important to preserve than the flaring of the port, which is operating much more efficiently inside the horn. Chris

  42. The idea is to use the same configuration all the way around (5 loudspeakers), but the 2" compression drivers in the surrounds will probably be K-69-As that I have on hand. I plan to pick up a better compression driver for the center. The subject of woofer size is discussed earlier in this thread. To summarize that discussion, I found that the design really needed two 15 inch diameter drivers in order to have sufficient capacity below the horn's 1/4-wavelength frequency (about 175 Hz) to compensate for the gradual loss of horn gain on-axis. The horn itself begins to lose directional control at about that frequency (just like the other Klipsch Heritage bass bins--about 100-200 Hz). So the woofers still get the advantage of horn loading below Fc, but not directionality. Putting the loudspeaker up against a wall (like a Cornwall) or in a corner (like a Khorn, Jubilee bass bin, La Scala, or Belle) constrains the directionality of the bass bin horns to significantly raise their on-axis SPL relative to without those room boundaries present. Having those two 15" drivers only raises the cost of the drivers by a fairly small amount. They are easily accommodated inside the box, and present no other issues related to their diameter, but enable the extended LF performance of the loudspeaker--with no horn folds required. Chris

  43. It is good to read that you plan to replace all the speakers in your home theater with copies of your New Center design. Will they all be identical, or might the surround speakers use different drivers or port configurations for experimentation? The Jubilee bass bin has 2 twelve inch woofers, why does the New Center need 2 fifteen inch drivers?
