  1. Excellent! I have long felt that the CW III erred greatly in using the Heresy upper driver config, 800 cross and all, which made it sound more like a heresy. I thought it badly needed a 600 HZ mid horn to measure up to the original Corns with its noticeably larger midhorn propagation field. The III sounded pinched and unimpressive to me. I wish it hadn't taken so long to rectify! I certainly hope to hear it someday! Not for me so much, since I'm pretty well set with my K-horns. Larry

  2. OK; picked up a Luxman R-115. Blaming @willand and @Woofers and Tweeters for this (they love these R-115/117 units). Think I'll use it as an amp for my rear Cornwalls.

  4. His tweeters are in them and they are braced up pretty good. AA crossover with new caps. They are really nice looking speakers.

  5. I listened to the LSI’s all day. They sound fantastic. I got on a Grateful Dead kick and probably listened to five albums. I tried to crank them up, but couldn’t get much past a quarter volume. All the folks that said they could get loud were not joking. I couldn’t be happier with the decision to get these. They are better than what I expected after hearing some of the complaints. I would agree that a good horn loaded sub would really pair well with them, but on their own, they put out good accurate bass. I’m not sure I’ll build one or not.

  8. We made mushroom omelettes when I was IN. Giant puffballs. Saute a big slice and fold it over your favorite filling/s. Morels are my fave. Hen o' the woods are quite good, too.

  9. Elden, you and the wife know how to dine high on da hog Not good for one's cholesterol/triglyceride levels tho. I like horseradish too, never tried it on fried shrooms. Mostly with raw oysters, boiled shrimp and prime rib. Horseradish will "open the sinuses".

  10. Rectangular SMAHL + DE120. Type E crossover rebuilt to AA configuration with Sonicaps and no zeners. Eminence Kappa 15C to replace the non stock K-33's that were in them and because I wanted to hear a set since so many here brag on them. Mid brace from dog house to sidewalls. Duratex. Extra screw driver also supplied because I care.

  13. My efforts would have been in vain had it not been for Chris's tutoring and his deep knowledge of the subject. I certainly have learned a lot from all of you and Chris in particular as of late. The value of this forum is the cooperation and camaraderie everyone seems to enjoy. I am hopeful this "kit" will help those who seek just a little more than what stock units can provide. The waveguides turned out really nice and are in the shop offgassing those nasty lacquer fumes. Ten days from now, due to work schedule, I plan on getting back into this hot and heavy. If you guys are interested in my results and experience with my project I will continue posting pics and where I end up with the Xilica settings. My dual Kappalite 3105LF bass bin is pretty capable from 20hz-1.2khz, so I may end up crossing a bit higher than you would with a stock Khorn bass bin. But, we can get an idea of how it can work. I plan on extensive listening sessions and hope to get @Thaddeus Smith and anyone else that want to stop by to have an objective listen. Another set of objective ears will help in providing several, more valid opinions on the project.

  15. why concern yourself with the opinion of someone who shares different interest and passions. At one time I owned 10 pairs of cornwalls, now down to 2 pairs. I enjoy listening to music, and don't expect anyone else to understand that..... not even a musician. if you want them, and you can afford to work them into your budget, why not buy them.... I have given you my approval..... what else do you need?

  16. I really wanted to see Michigan stay in that game for 4 quarters. You don't need an elite QB to be a top 15 team, though it seems you must have one to be a playoff team so there are many teams, including Michigan and PSU that need to find one.

  17. I purchased a mini dsp hd unit based on Chris recommending it to me as a good starting point versus the Behringer unit I had that I didn't use because the interface was not to my liking at all. The mini is very straight forward and the interface is as well and has served my purposes well to this point when doing basic crossover points/types and basic eq. I have no regrets on the purchase and can always spend more down the road.

  19. Don't forget the creamy horseradish too!! Love that on roast beef and fried mushrooms! Have to say I never tried it with horseradish, but I love horseradish so I will try it. All I need is mushrooms now, need to get some, Ah....a "gigantic hamburger" sounds great also.

  20. Would try it for just an ephiphany. Almost allergic to horseradish as it almost leaves me be breathless, liken to vodka. Game nevertheless for that.

  25. shroom tea is pretty nasty. They are OK dried, though. Go down a LOT easier. And don't taste much different from "regulars". That tea makes me think of water from the septic tank. Tastes like tank water smells. Those ones from Tillamook ... 1/2gram of dried ones will set you free.

  26. Not to butt my nose into your business.... (as I butt my nose into your business!) If you haven't done it yet, you should move your 401K to an IRA. If you decide you need "X" dollars out for spending purposes, the 401K is required (by IRS law) to take 20% off the top and send it to them as prepayment towards taxes you may or may not owe. If you move it (or a portion of it if allowed) to an IRA you are allowed to have as much (or as little) as you wish held back.....you are not required to have the 20%. You could hold as little as zero..... or 10% or $100....whatever you want. It doesn't absolve you of what you owe, it just allows you to better control how it's paid. If you are (for easy math example) in the 10% tax bracket, why would you want the 10% you owe AND an additional 10%, totaling the 20% to go to the IRS and then ask them to give it back to you next April (2021 since we're in the new year). Some examples: If you called 401K and told them you needed $1,000. First off, they SHOULD then ask "do you want it out of the account, or in your hands???" None the less, you will receive $800 because they've sent $200 to the IRS. So, if you want $1,000 "in your hands", you have to take $1,250 out of the account to get the $1,000. Ok, I'm getting my nose out of your business now.

  27. Ok, well this is my two cents worth...the CP1s are the overbuilt version of the Cornwalls so the are rated at 200 Watts continuous, have a slightly larger cabinet, better woofer and we’re only made during the mid 80s so they are fairly rare. I owned a pair until recently and I feel they are worth the higher asking price.

  29. Recently swapped the OEM power supply transformer in an LK72A with a Heyboer replacement. The Heyboer is a well made component. Removing the bell is a bit tricky but it can be done without causing mechanical strain in the lead wires. The leads are tinned, multi-strand and the insulating jacket material very tough. Excellent results are achievable. This is a great little amp, very quiet! http://www.northreadingeng.com/Audio/group/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=8&p=29#p29

  30. An official European Klipsch dealer starts selling Heresy IV at €2,999 while the Heresy III used to be sold for €1,995 just a couple of weeks ago. Are the new component upgrades worth that amount of money or is there another reason for the spectacular price increase (like import duties and Trump's trade negotiations etc)? Edit: Clicking further, the price increase seems to be even more dramatic:

  31. OK I know it’s been a while but I finally pulled the trigger. I ended up going with the NAD. And talk about going from a broken hyperdrive to lightspeed, what a improvement. I haven’t completely ran Dirac yet, But to this point I am thoroughly impressed with the receivers quality and sound. It is a marked improvement over the Denon X 1000 that it replaced... So far well worth the money... I will give more feedback after I run the room correction.. One thing I noticed immediately is that the unit does not run hot Compared to my two previous denons.. More to come down the road I’ll keep you guys posted.

  32. I measured about a 500 Hz. response for the K600 horns with K55's. I remember Gary Gillum, former Klipsch Chief Engineer, telling me he did not agree with Klipsch going with a K700 (Heresy Mid) Horn with the Cornwall. Bob Crites bought out the old Cornwall K600 tooling and refurbished it. I'm thinking he's selling a lot of those to the Japanese right about now. LOL.

  33. I did check it out. Same issue here as Gutenberg. Blah blah blah, is INCOMPLETE. Why not use a good quality recorder like a $200 Zoom H2 at the sweet spot, then use an A/B switch for the speakers. In about 30 seconds or less, we could tell more about the SONIC differences of the Forte III vs. the Cornwall IV than the entire rest of the video.

  34. Good luck with THAT simulation. Harry F. Olson used to call them "drone cones." They are a bit fussier to tame than ports because there's mass, diameter, and compliance that needs to be controlled, so whatever suspension and diameter they have, you are stuck with and not easily modified and require lots of measurements. Either way, the box volume is what you are working with as a starting point, but there are way more port options available to control than passive radiators, plus you can use lots of different modern software for predictions with ports.

  35. Impressions to the contrary, I have been building bass reflex speakers since 1967, from ignorant to intelligent via the experiences. I'm not denying that flared ports are better than non-flared, but it's only a slight TWEAK of performance, and NOT the majority of it. This is the ONLY thing I have maintained in my posts all along. I'd rather go after the "dollar's worth of difference" rather than the dime. The dime part is for the Marketing types to drool over. I'm from the Engineering side of things, as you are.

  39. I think the H3's would be too bright with many SS amps but I'm pretty much a dyed in the wool tube guy. I use a sub with the H3's and don't feel I'm missing anything. The tractix midrange is interesting and wonder why it was not implemented sooner.

  43. I will say, they haven’t been placement sensitive. I haven’t touched them since I hooked them up. I do appreciate that. Live music just sounds awesome. I’m not an audiophile, so I can’t really put it in words. I’m just blown away by them so far.

  44. Room proportions. May as well get it the best shape possible, although some people don't believe in "Magic Proportions," others do! 26 x 13.5 might be too nearly 2:1 in proportion. Paul Klipsch created a Dope from Hope on room proportions. See the second page with Dr. Bolt's proportion deciding contour. It takes ceiling ht into account, too. Try this link. http://assets.klipsch.com/file/Dope_680201_v9n1.pdf?_ga=2.47855328.633975349.1577944979-1885359904.1548711589 If it doesn’t work, google Dope from Hope vol 9, No. 1, 1 February 1968 There are more modern approaches, so dig around on google. Diffusers are practically a must, IMO There are several people on the forum who know a lot about acoustics. Two of them are Artto and Chris A. @schwock5 , @artto , @Chris A
