  1. That pic was grabbed from a previous garage sale post here from a guy in Missouri over a year ago. I know because once I said those RF-7 II’s were too far for me, several chimed in how it was too good of a deal to not drive cross country.

  2. Ha Ha how true. A while back I said black speakers ruled and veneer did not and got pummeled for that. No, the only valid review is in person. There is no other way to listen and make an informed choice based on your own personal preferences.

  3. Big thanks and shout out to forum member ssh and friend for having me over today and putting up with my dragging out equipment and cables and all the works to demo my new 30’s. Tons of hospitality and just plain ol’ good folks all around! Glad we could come to a good deal for all and get these beauties a new home where they’ll be fed tender warm watts of joyous harmonies. I’ll be posting pics and updates on my process of getting these and my original pair of 30’s prepped/repaired/upgraded/sanded/braced/relaquered/loved/hugged/petted etc., etc., On another note while I drove back to Tha Top o Tha Boot with my new toys all giddy a part of my mind, it seemed, stayed focused there in R-Kansas in the form of an EPIC set of Klipsch Epic series CF-4’s. My first rodeo with those babies and i’ll tell ya-They truly won the day. I see what the fuss is about. Somebody needs to jump on those. All drivers working solid and looking good. The cabinets have a couple blemishes-mainly the top of one as seen in the pic above and a little discoloration/lightening of the finish on the bottom edge of the other. I could easily live with the cab’s without having to be re-finished. Grilles looked great esp., considering age. The sound they pour forth is amazing. The positive hf binding post on one is a lil wobbly/loose. That’s the only thing even remotely wrong with them whatsoever. I imagine you could pop open the binding post panel and tighten it no sweat. Otherwise you guys have a perfect set of CF-4’s sitting in southern Arkansas ready for the scoop. Were I not trying to focus on an entire legend series theater they would be with me right now. Alas I have no xtra room in my house or my budget if I’m to finish this legend theater. You guys probably know more about what they are worth/going for than I, but the owner is a motivated seller that would prob take a grand to eleven hundred or so, which seems a steal when I look around at what they are listed for on various sites. Again my first rodeo with epics, but I tell ya they sounded heavenly. Hope someone scoops them so I can stop thinking about how to sell the idea of yet another pair of klipsch to the old lady and making another trip to Razorback country!

  4. This post, like many others I read, just really amuses me. It’s funny to read about the impressions and guesses of those that HAVENT heard this speaker by the so called experts vs those that HAVE heard them. By the way......I am on the marketing side......lol!!!!

  8. If that's the case have you tried gluing, clamping in place then using a brad nailer? Another alternative would be pocket screws as opposed to screwing on the end. You're not using big box store mdf are you? If so that could be your issue. The difference between what they sell and cabinet grade mdf is incredible. It makes big box store stuff look like particle board.

  10. You got your wish. I think Brady should retire. Don't hang around too long and tarnish your career.

  11. I know he used to stack the LS bass bins, although not for the volume. He told me he sometimes didn't hook up the extras, they were only for looks.

  12. This was the Lake of the Ozarks in central Missouri. I caught several close to this size. I estimated that I caught over 100 pounds of catfish in an hour. As fast as they started to bite, they stopped. Not sure why, just know it was a lot of fun. Many stories similar to yours circle around that lake as well, especially below the dam where they eat the shad that get ground up in the turbins for the hydro electric plant there. They shot an episode of River Monsters there a few years back. They didn't come up with any big catches. I used to fish on the Missouri river below a power plant during the winter near their hot water outlet. Caught some nice fish, nothing newsworthy though.

  13. @MookieStl First one looks like you've been to the Belmont Hot Hole. Catfish is one of the best! Where the hot water from the hydroelectric plant dumps into a cove to go to the Catawba has probably fed hundred of thousands around here over the decades. In the late 70s once they had Navy divers go down there because of the depth and an issue with the release valve/pipes or something. They came up quickly and were quoted in the paper as having said "There were catfish down there with a bit radius large enough to take arms or legs off a full grown man." The article implied that they did not finish the job.

  15. Decided to make a guest appearance @ Jam Night tonight. Might be a mistake with this never-ending crud I've got. Maybe a double hooker of something might be the answer.

  20. I guess I have been lucky, always tended to stay on the verge of excess but avoided the problems, or I was just lucky, not sure which. Plus I have slowed down alot from how I used to be, getting old can do that to you. I like ultralight poles, everything seems to fight more, one of the biggest bass I have ever caught was when I was perch fishing with a tiny hook. I have never caught a bass as big as that but never fished freshwater alot compared to saltwater.

  21. Yes, they are missed, and of course Scott Yocum and Old Buckster and others we may have missed. RIP It was really nice that Mrs Boxx came to pilgrimage with Maccagirl and her husband, it was nice talking with you. If I remember correctly Mrs Boxx wanted to see what drew her husband to this place, he was supposed to attend a couple years earlier but passed before. .

  24. I 1st was introduced to Klipsch in the 70’s. It has always amazed me that Klipsch deploys such an underwhelming marketing scheme. The general buying public was bowled over with heavily advertised Bose junk product and so much $ has been wasted on truly cheap and lousy sound. Klipsch could have dominated this market and kept the sustained caliber of this industry at a much higher standard. Instead the public got duped by charlatanesque speakers and now lives with a distorted benchmark for quality sound reproduction. Every theatre that uses Klipsch product should feature some audience notification of its application. Get your Cornwall’s, flaunt them, enjoy them and do what Klipsch does not do - educate your social circle about quality sound reproduction.

  25. I have the bad habit of doing a search for "tubes" on craigslist. New Years Day this DB-20 was listed at midnight for $50, there was a phone number ( I will rarely email, unless its just listed and I want it bad ) and I called. Made the appointment for 11am and brought it home. Before I left I spied this old Altec 605B and commented that it looked pretty cool and as I handed the owner the $50 for the Bogen, he said "take it"

  26. Great Drivers, if your looking at this you know what they are. The driver surrounds were refoamed and 1 cone is a tad discolored. in spots, I have put approx 100 hours on them since the refoam job and they sound great to me. I contacted lowther in EU and they offer 2 programs 1 they call Lowther 4 life if you trade these in you save 1500 in a new pair, or they will totally rebuild these for approx 1100 which includes shipping. These do not need any immediate attention they are ready to play as is, I just mention the above for anyone wondering if they have support. Price for the pair is 700.00 plus shipping You wont get a better 8" FR Driver at this price. I have the original boxes and packing & they will be double boxed. SOLD

  33. } No worries. Just cut three to four inches of the speaker wire you’re using, two of these per speaker, make the proper connections. One works just as well as the other —

  34. Newsworthy is a fresh fish dinner. They don't need be flashy or large. My wife requests me to bring sardines back, when I go to Puerto Penasco Mexico. And they sure are good. Triggerfish are fun to catch. Good easting, too. And will beat you up if you have less than 20lb line.

  38. That had to be one heck of a moment, 8lb on ultralight. #10 is a tiny hook. First fly rod I purchased @ a local sporting goods store, first trip I landed a 4 lb 15 oz bass on a small top water plug. She inhaled it and I watched. This was fishing out of my lake skiff with a troll motor.

  40. Ok, I've ordered the 4 drivers. The DSP will be soon-ish. And then I've got some cabinet work to do and figure out a time to build/paint the wings assembly, etc. I've got my 5 channel ATI amp idling with only 2 channels currently, so that's going to drive my HF and LF sections. Nothing changes for my SPUD clones setup. While I'm overhauling everything, should I also consider the Eminence Kappa-15C woofers? I believe I read that while they didn't go lower than OEM, they had better upper frequency performance when crossing over to the K400 mid horn and that seems relevant to what's trying to be achieved here. Or does that break the "Heritage HF upgrade kit" experiment goals?

  42. Not to mention both the Heresy 3 and CW 3s have employed Ti diaphragms in both the tweeter and squawker since 2006 and I have read a LOT of on line reviews of them and never read adjectives like "harsh" and "shrill" used to describe their musical reproduction. Reviews @ crutchfield (purchasers), reviews in other audio forums, reviews on the Klipsch product website, and reviews here on this forum. Hard to find a bad word on Heresy III period, other than the occasional limited low end extension comment. I own a pair of CW 3s and did a lot of research before purchasing a pair.

  45. Had forum member ETC over last night. We had the chance to play with this sub, which is the first time since I built it . I know, I know how could you build something and not use it. I just didn't have the proper gear to try it out. So I took my Drifts off of the wall and ran the cross over on the minidsp at 80hz. Man we had things shaking, we even were able to hook up my ttls. I used to use the ttls with the Drifts, but I didn't have stilts built for them. That was a huge difference as well. Now if you want to know my opinion on the 2. I would have to efficiency the ttls wins, I didn't run any sweeps to see which one went lower. But I feel the THspud would win, along with power handling. I wouldn't mind trying one of the THTLS, or some of the others that have been built. I really need to decide how I want to set up my front stage, as the subs will have impact on that. I can only imagine how things will sound once I get the room closed off, along with some sound treatments.
