  2. Somebody very BIG sent a text out congratulating the state of Kansas and its residents for the superbowl win last night. He soon deleted it. But many captured it in screen shots Can I get a map and a Sharpie please?

  4. I'm glad to hear of that. Truly miraculous. I wasn't aware you had to endure what must have been a parental nightmare, but I am so glad there was good news with that story, and your son will be in our thoughts over the next several months. @LarryC Dr , Dr. Larry has had little or no hearing in one ear for nearly his whole life. He hears in just mono, but stereo Khorns and amps. He has a remarkable sense of acuity in that one ear. I learned more about listening to concert music in one weekend with him then all the previous years together. MD from Harvard, doctorate from Cal. The point being, with one good ear there is no limit to what your son can do.

  6. i’m not sure which i like more ... the Ghost to the Post or Scorpion’s Wrath (which i’m working on now). Those are definitely the two best in my opinion. Well Done Brian -- @oldtimer

  7. Are you serious? You do realize that you can get free hearing aids for life from the VA, not to mention a monthly disability check? Why not take advantage of that? You have your choice of several different models of very high end hearing aids that are excellent.

  9. So i first listened to a set in 1987. It was at the now defunct Tweeter etc in Ma. I loved the way they sounded but I could only afford Heresy's at the time. I did love the Heresy's! Unfortunately, they were stolen. I have looked over the years at K-horns on line but finally bit the bullet and bought a set from 1968. Although, they are as old as I am they look and sound better lol

  10. In my experience, if you note a large dip at the xover point, after setting the timing, the GD will confirm the need for polarity inversion of one of the drivers. The GD shows a huge change in GD at that point. Of course, take my comments with a grain of salt as I am merely a student of the magic arts of audio and REW.

  11. I cant say I enjoyed any aspect of the 5 years I spent in. However, I got an Associate ‘s degree in 8 months for my MOS, used the GI Bill and graduated college with zero debt. Now, at 46, I’m in year 7 of essentially the “ruined” part of my life. Complex PTSD led to 3 suicide attempts and 13 hospitalizations from 2013-15. I’m 100% perm and total. People think not being able to work is a great thing....No, having your career taken from you and dealing with constant (every night) nightmares and never ending anxiety and depression....I haven’t left the house after 5pm in 6 years. Why? No, idea. I get triggered going to our large VA center. However, in Maine, we have several satellite clinics. Due to the Mission Act, I can choose an outside provider which they cover. With all the mileage reimbursement, I get about $40k a year tax free- not what I was making before. Its no joke. If you served, you earned these benefits. Those that claim they are homeless and the VA leaves vets homeless, etc- I haven’t seen it. My case was fast tracked and approved in 3 months. without the, I would have lost everything. Fortunately my wife and I have been strong throughout. If you qualify for hearing aids, get them. If you qualify for medical tx, get it. I guess I just want people to realize the seriousness. Living for me is far harder than dying. I vowed to my wife to stick around. Otherwise, it’s game over. This is serious stuff. It just deserves its respect. I also fully support using humor to try and create context of the “suck” and everything that sticks around.

  12. Thanks for that @Randyh. I hope things work well for you and your family. I'd hate to even think about that. Would be terrible to deal with for me. So very sorry . To clarify MY point a bit more. There was never hearing protection provided for members of the military. Today of course. Years ago no. When you were pumpin em out as fast as you could to save lives how much of your hearing did you sacrifice? You hear an "Expend ALL Ammo" it's ALL goin down range cause it's ON. Ok, we all know that. IF I owned the VA I'd buy a million hearing aids and hang em on every person who whined to the VA and in some cases give em some beer money every month. They'd be happy right? Case closed and can't be reopened. Right @jimjimbo?

  15. Found something I'd never heard of, Tommy Bolin. He was playing for Deep Purple when he released this record of his own. OD'd in `76. Good on the guitar he played for others too. Took one look at the cover and wasn't interested but when I pulled it up on youtube it's pretty good!

  16. At 71 yo (72 in November) my high frequency hearing is compromised, probably due to age, as well as a mobile DJ business in the 70s. Four Speakerlab SKhorns in a fraternity house dining room did some damage too. When I use headphones to listen to test tones all is well until about 10KHz when it stops. While waiting at the airport a slightly younger friend showed me his Eargo Neo aids. He was extolling their virtues. A review of their site and some conversations with a rep have all but convinced me to give them a try. They are specifically designed to enhance high frequency hearing only. They are in-ear, but do not block lower frequencies. Eargo sent a free pair of dummy units to experience fit and comfort. With the dummies in place, I soon forget they’re in there; they do not block lower frequencies. A 45 day return policy limits the risk to $99.00. Does anyone have actual experience with Eargo products? What suggestions regarding hearing aids in general do you have? Who uses aids to listen to music? It would be nice to not ask others, especially women and children, to please repeat.

  17. Hi all! This is my first post and I wasn't sure if this was to the right forum. A couple of months ago, I picked up a pair of Heresy I and I felt like I was finally in audio heaven (coming from RF-25'S), and then I came across these awesome Chorus's! Whoa! Now this is what I was wanting! They are bone stock, OG owner, and as far as I know the covers have never been removed until now. I love them! And now I am addicted... ..... Can't insert images.. so here's a link.. https://photos.app.goo.gl/wPdiGMPvrpfju7fR9

  25. While i’m not enjoying the rainy season around Portland ... the VA Hospital there is top notch. They are a Magnet Hospital and the care is very good. They partner with Oregon Health & Science University ... whose hospital is right next door and connected by a walkway. My brother had a very intensive surgery having his esophagus removed and new esophagus made out of a portion of his stomach. VA sent him to OHSU and he’s cancer free now. Actually, one of the better hospitals that i’ve seen. Hope life is good for you Travis.

  26. Short ribs browned and ready to go into the pressure cooker . Onions , carrots , celery and garlic added to the coke along with a splash of Worcestershire and double splash of Maggi seasoning . Had to use a spoon to extract from the pot ; fell apart with the tongs . Served with creamy mushroom and carrot rice and jus .

  32. I use a hearing aid. My hearing loss is bilateral but worse on the left. Originally they set me up with bilateral appliances but it was too disorienting. So I kept just the left unit. My device is tuned to augment my tested frequency deficits and it is supposed to be ‘musically’ capable. In reality music is less satisfying because the appliance picks up sounds more from the rear than common for hearing. It maybe that I simply cannot adjust to its settings or orientation. But I do not ever reach for the hearing aid when I desire to hear music. In fact I remove it for music. I use it for conversation or watching the ‘stupid’ box. For me it is more of a practical tool than a musical amp device.

  33. That's a function of the driver itself: a full-range direct radiating lightweight cone--(e.g., Fostex, etc.). Apparently wizzer cones really give REW a hard time when it comes time to calculate phase and the derivative of phase: group delay. If you look at the frequency range of those phase wraps, it's occurring over the 3-4.5 kHz band. That's also the point where there is apparently a handover of the motion of the cone as a somewhat rigid body to the wizzer cone area only, so you're seeing a broadening of the spectrogram just below 4 kHz--and a very complex behavior. If you change the resolution of the spectrogram to Fourier instead of wavelet, you can see the complex behavior most clearly in the zigzagging peak energy time curve. This is a function of that sort of driver, apparently. Can the ear hear that? I'm not sure, but apparently not. But it is the point where the wizzer cone basically breaks free of the rest of the cone and begins to carry the load higher in frequency. Chris

  34. Did the seller package them up or U-Ship? I had my original factory boxes and added a little myself around the Fortes but when the U-ship guy arrived he seemed happy I packed them up. Almost like he was expecting to treat them like a moving company does furniture. I honestly think if I had had them playing music when he arrived he would have unplugged them, wrapped them in blankets and been on his way.
