  2. I'd be surprised if you hear any change at all--to be honest. One issue in what you're proposing is that you're also not proposing to measure the effects of your tinkering at the same time to see if you're introducing SPL response issues. [This seems to be a systemic problem with "tinkerers" here on this forum (but not on some other forums).] Buy yourself a calibrated microphone (I recommend a UMIK-1) and start measuring the output with Room EQ Wizard (i.e., "REW", an outstanding shareware application). I think that you'll find that changing the room placement slightly, moving around the furniture, and adding a little absorption and perhaps diffusion at the right places will be much more effective than all of your proposed fixes detailed above. ________________________________________________________________________________ As far as the Cornwall itself, in my view the loudspeaker has perhaps three issues: the tweeter is a little harsh, although this is difficult to see in REW measurements the midrange horn is a little outdated (relative to the Cornwall IV) the tweeter to midrange time alignment is off by a factor of 2-3 full wavelengths at the crossover frequency--nominally 5 kHz. (Note that I didn't say anything about the bass bin or woofer performance, which is all that you proposed to address, above.) These issues can be corrected, but what you'll wind up with is a different sounding loudspeaker if you correct the issues, for instance: Tri-amping with a DSP crossover will be able to correct item #3, above (or moving each tweeter to the top and the back of its cabinet, then dialing in the position finely using measurements to get the tweeter in the right place for midrange time alignment). Changing to a K-510 horn and good 2" compression driver, which eliminates items 1 and 2 above (i.e., thus changing to a two-way and bi-amping), and thus produces a really outstanding sound reproducer. You could do this by placing the mid-high K-510-like horn with 2" compression driver on top with the bass bin either upright or lying on its side to get the mid-high horn/driver closer to the woofer. These two changes will not permanently affect the configuration of the Cornwall IIIs that you have--i.e., it's quite easy to reverse the changes if you're going to sell them. These are improvements--ones that you can measure and definitely hear. However, it does require that you learn to do some things that you probably don't know how to do presently. Chris

  3. Hi ya fellas, I notice that you all continue to have a lot of joy, fun and exchange in this thread. It's a pity that I don't have much time at the moment to dedicate to my beloved hobby. It is summer in Europe, we spend most of our free time outdoors now and enjoy the beauty of nature. In addition, I have to take care of the really very large garden around our house and our pool in my free time. Who of you owns a pool knows a lot of work that is, despite all the pumps and filter systems. We have also been to the coast in the Netherlands and had some wonderful days there. The Netherlands is our direct neighbour and the North Sea coast is only 3 hours drive away. I just wanted to let you know that everything is fine. I read here regularly, even if I do not always want to comment everything. As soon as I listen to records again you will be there. When I have time to listen to music, my Marantz NA 8005 network player runs, mostly I only listen to "groovin Lounge style summer music ". I think of you, see you soon

  5. let me see if i understand you ... go out, effectively a suicide mission with this virus if i want a clean house? I guess i can go out and look for a new place to live because if you let these cornwalls breathe while you clean -- i’m sure i’ll get an eviction notice.

  6. Pre cook also but don't see why it wouldn't work if there is enough sauce. That bacon thing sounds really good, I love hash browns and bacon would only make it better. Man times are hard in the desert, if your down to watching those, although some are pretty good. PM always found a way to work it out.

  7. I pre cook it for mine but your right, I only clean `cause I don't like things to stay dirty. Heck things just get that way going in and out a lot. So one less pan to wash is good. Putting a dent in that darn bacon I bought in bulk a couple of months ago. Cooked a pound and made that hashbrown casserole that is like Cracker Barrel's. When I've reheated it I crumble some on the plate put the casserole on top, and that's a whole meal in my book.

  8. I exercise them regularly. Not that loud normally ... but I have run them at 7. That is getting loud... concert level still no complaints from the neighbor. Only have one, less than a block away. Now, one of you is gonna tell me not turn turn it up over 5 .... and to get more amp, so I don't have to. @BigStewMan. Yeah, I bet your neighbors would notice my presence. Good morning all! Since it's June, I spose I should stop whining about 100`. It's normal... now. At least we don't get 90% r/h to go with it. Drinking cold coffee. Closed up the house for the day. Just waiting for the fun to start.

  14. Done for now 100` outside. No reason to go out there. Maybe move a hose and douse myself. Was waiting for PerryMason to come on... watching the end of a Lone Ranger... Clayton Moore was not in this episode. Who was that masked man? Wife went to Tucson... to get the taxes done and visit her sister. We tend to owe... I gave her my card to pay for it. "Visit her sister" may lead to an overnight. Told wife to give me an early notice, if she's not coming home. Doesn't bother my for her to overnight. I just wanna know before I prepare dinner. Only a few things I like as leftovers. Spaghetti, chili, lasagna come to mind. Especially lasagna. I make a 9 X 9 and 9 X 13 pan when I make it. For some reason, I can't seem to make anything less than a gallon of sauce. I did get a "lasagna pan"... 9 X 13 and 3" deep. That stops overflows. Still have to make a 9 X 9. How many of you pre-cook the pasta? I don't. Just make the sauce a little juicy or add a little water before baking... I make enough of a mess. One less pan is one less pan

Just stay 6 feet away from me and all of my possessions, i don’t know where all you’ve been ... after all, like out mother’s said (and Cheap Trick sung) “you’ll never know what you’ll catch.” (just joking of course my friend).

Dyed in layers using Yellow, Amber, Orange, Cinnamon. Multiple shellac wash coats were applied at various stages. Java stain provided the depth needed to make the grain really express itself. 25. I find that putting the electronics, furniture, etc. between the loudspeakers is not a very good idea--for more reasons than just fitting the loudspeakers on the front wall without regard to how they sound shoehorned into the remaining space. It's usually much better to put those items further back and to one side--farther away from the near field of loudspeakers (generally defined as within 4-5 feet). Generally, when the center of the front wall is cleared, suddenly there is plenty of space for loudspeakers like Jubilees and/or K-402-MEHs. My listening room is 15.5' wide, and I've got plenty of room for Jubilees and a center K-402-MEH. I could have also handled a third Jubilee (instead of the MEH) if the hearth wasn't in the middle of the front wall--and I probably would have gone that direction if the hearth wasn't there. As it is however, I discovered the performance advantage of the K-402-MEH, and shortening down the K-402s on top of the Jub bass bins. Chris

  28. How many cuts are you doing? I don't know how much the proper blade might cost, but I have three fabrication shops within 4-5 miles of me. If I needed something done "to perfection" (to use a phrase) I could take it to one of them. I'd probably get a more accurate cut.... won't necessarily save on expenses.... If you're doing a bunch, might be worth buying the tools....if it's a cut or two....might be worth driving down the road?? Heck, I'm getting ready to have one of these fabricator guys come to my house, bring his welder because I've got a sheared steering bolt on my industrial backhoe so it's not going anywhere and I can't transport it. I've got my brother in laws welder sitting here right now as I type....but I've never welded and need this done "right" the first time..... so out comes the wallet.

  29. Assuming you were asking about cutting 3/4" X 3/4" X 1/8" standard hardware store angle. Have you considered a fine tooth hacksaw? They work great. Clean up with a file loaded with chalk or soapstone after. If not, then... Use the highest tooth count you can find. 10 teeth per diameter inch. Tooth count and configuration depends on the alloy and thickness. The thicker the aluminum material is, the fewer teeth you typically need. (TCG) Triple chip grind tooth profile with a negative tooth angle is best. Like -5 degrees. You can use a wax to lub the blade to prevent welding of the material to the teeth of the blade. The aluminum will melt instead of cut if you go to fast and will make for a very ugly cut. Make sure you have your entire body covered in clothing, gloves, face shield, hearing protection. Use a very firm grip or clamp. One side of the angle against the fence and the other side against the table. Maybe put up some cardboard to contain the metal shavings from getting everywhere. Cover any glass in the line of fire. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DIABLO-12-in-x-96-Tooth-Laminate-Non-Ferrous-Metal-Cutting-Saw-Blade-D1296L/203162568 This high quality blade has everything you need for your project, meets the requirement of your saw, and is readily available. I was unable to find an economical alternative with adequate specs. You will not want to use this blade later for cutting crown molding or any lumber or boards down the road. Sorry you can not upgrade your current saw blade with this aluminum project of yours. There are wood/metal combo blades, but those are for ferrous metal. A blade made for composite decking like Trex could work if you were planning that type of work ahead. Aluminum is a specialty product and should be treated as such. I know a blade like this is expensive for small projects. I own many dozens of different types of saw blades, maybe even a hundred types. They are not a one fits all kind of thing. Sometimes you just use them once. Please do not buy a 10" saw blade for your 12" saw and attempt to cut aluminum with it. It won't cut all the way through anyway. You would need to build up your fence first. Please do not turn your saw blade backwards and cut with it. Leave that to the siding crew. It would not apply here. Buy the right tools, buy the right accessories, do it safe. If you would like to save yourself some money, get a smaller size saw for special projects and the blades will be much cheaper. Like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-7-1-4-in-Miter-Saw-TS1144/306939256 plus this https://www.homedepot.com/p/DIABLO-7-1-4-in-x-56-Teeth-Laminate-Non-Ferrous-Metal-Cutting-Blade-D0756N/202035231 I have been trained, educated, you can trust what I say to be true. I do not deny that there are other real alternatives and suggestions you will hear that will actually work, but those typically originate from having a lack of something else. Some of those can cause damage to material, damage to equipment, or even loss of bodily function. I am just trying to give the best advice I can.

  33. Aight guys, so after many many conversations with our good carpenter here he has graced me with the good fortune and opportunity to receive these beauties! I can’t begin to express how stoked and honored I am!!! He’s working out the final travel plans and everything should be set (Gulf weather permitting) in the next couple of days. That being said- After everything that’s been going on in the world and the unfortunate cancellation of the pilgrimage (was gonna be my first) I’d like to take this opportunity to invite a few fellow members over for a meet and greet and to see these babies in person and meet our Wisconson brother and show him some southern hospitality. I’ve spoken to a couple of you guys in pm’s, but any forum members that would like to drop by hit me up in a pm. Tentatively this weekend in Bossier City, LA (Shreveport). My house is open to you guys for some music, food, drinks, and fellowship. We’ll be adding further details shortly. -Rooster

  34. Oh wow! I've just swapped over to the 4 ohm taps on the Primaluna EVO 400 Integrated playing through my Klipsch Forte III's. I'm stunned! More body in the sound. Bass more rich and defined. Totally solid sound at high listening volumes. Late night low volume listening is also absolutely awesome. It's like hitting the Loudness button in the 'good ole days' but with equal mids and highs mixed with beefy bass! I'm shocked! But oh so happy! 😃

  35. damn bottomless coffee cup empty Mornin' all Good coffee this AM. Guess I'll be doing housework today. Wife is going to the school. Think it is more of a visit with her secretary. Been some concern about schools and the present situation...The size of the school makes it fairly easy to comply with reopening standards. They have 20 students, total - K- 8...in a good year. Don't do much cleaning when she is home. Not because I expect her to do it... I prefer to clean the house when nobody is around to dirty it before I finish. Plus, I can get obnoxious as I want with loud music. Got hear it over the shop vac, ya know.

  37. Mornin' All That's about what our low should be... Into my 3rd or 4th cup. Been up since 2. Don't know why. Exciting news Wife is scheduled to get her cataract surgery done in a couple weeks. Going in next week for a pre-op and then a week later #1 gets done... 2 weeks after, the other. I bet I don't look as good afterwards. Not that I am particularly good looking to start.... I have to rely on charm and wit. Only thing I am not looking forward to, is sitting in the car, waiting. This is not the time of year to sit in a car. 100` is average for June.

  43. I am so happy with the sound of these AL5s! For days I’ve been binge listening to all my SACDs and everything I can think of on Tidal with my MQA DAC. When I get fatigued, I pop in an Ultra BluRay for a rocking action movie then I’m back to bingeing music again. I have a slew of concert DVDs coming it too. I can see this is not going to get old!!! 😀👍😎
