  1. I have also been using Sorbothane absorbers for a very long time. These are very efficient and absorb extremely well. The graphic shows this in comparison to conventional absorbing materials .

  3. Moved my stereo out to fill the hole vacated by the piano being in that place my whole life. Didn't fit in here but: So my well built cabinet has always been on carpet or a decently thick rug. Not to mention that the day we moved long ago I was in the hospital getting my new filter. My drunken father in law begrudgingly helped them move this cabinet and other large stuff that I hadn't already moved into the new home. This newly built cabinet was dropped down the steps then, nobody told me but I noticed a couple irregularities when I got home two weeks later. They `fessed up then. So on hardwood the 2 1/4 inch diameter rubber balls in the casters do not keep things solid, even after adding the weight of the vinyl back in. So wasn't about to play any records. In the future when I move I'll see about taking the casters off and fortifying the base with cross ways slats attached, right now it's just the perimeter 1" thick wood. Waiting on phone and "E'd" business stuff so I got to get caught up a little here this morning. Sorbothane to the rescue: https://www.isolateit.com/vibration-isolating-discs/sorbothane-vibration-isolation-circular-pad.html#product_tabs_description_tabbed Put some large 70 duro discs under the casters, then 50 d under the feet of the tt and I can stomp around in front of the rig and it does not come through the cart! Started out walking softly though because I had this gem playing! Edgar Winter Group "They Only Come Out at Night" It almost 1pm got to get back to the pressure washer and finish today to get it back to my neighbor quickly!!

  6. I hope the injections work well, sounds like you have a good doctor. Having confidence in your doctor helps a lot, takes some of the worry away. Sounds like Sept 1 is a huge day, hope it all works out for you. I'm only 90 minutes away, if you need a hand with anything, I can get away. Sorry to hear that Mike, hope he does well.

  7. I have an old school Acurus A200 (200x2) that I purchased from @willland many years ago powering my RF7 III’s. I feel it provides better separation of musical instruments, plenty of headroom and solid bass even at low volume.

  9. A lot of work has gone into these speakers to get them into great condition. First, the Veneer has been redone with a real hickory pecan veneer that looks magnificent. The tweeters have been replaces with crites tweeters as well as the crossover recapped. Additionally acoustic foam has been added to lessen cabinet resonance as well as tube ports(around 7 inch) for added bass extension. Functionally they are perfect and sound magnificent. Cometically there are only two minor issues of one cover have a small puncture that was fixed as well as on top of one of the speakers a small chipp occured in the veneer. This was filled in and stained to match the veneer and is hard to notice even up close. Selling because I need extra cash for medical school application and would love for these to go to a good home. Price I was thinking around 1200 OBO I am located in Tampa Florida and can make a resonable trip to meet If you have any further questions dont hestitate to ask!

  10. Got Devin's "Casualties of Cool" in the mail today. It is playing now and sounds glorious. Hot and humid days here in California, so during times like these, I like running my Topping 32EX T-amp, which runs cool and sounds great, despite its small size. You can see it glowing on the bottom right, an Oppo 93 playing the disc, then into the Epic CF3's.

  11. better scratch that one off your list too ... went to work one day and my wife rearranged the furniture in the living room -- and I didn't notice. Gotta love these conversations: wife: do you like the couch there? me: yeah, it's fine. wife: do you like the tv there? me: yeah, it's fine. why so many questions? wife: because when you left this morning, the couch was against that other wall and the tv was on that other wall. that's when you lose a lot of points for not noticing the wife's hard work. As far as anyone caring ... I'm used to it. guy's like me that don't seem to belong are used to living on the edges of whatever sub-culture we are in. we take what we can get until we get the boot. been more than half a century -- don't suppose society is going to accommodate me now. and last time I looked outside and saw society --- can't say that I want to be a part of it.

  15. I had my Klipschorns on a short wall (13 feet apart) and they sounded very good. However, I did build false corners for them so I could turn them in a bit and also to get a better seal. That radiator is a non-starter. Loosen each midrange driver a bit and tighten again. If there is not a good seal between the driver and the horn, this will create a problem. This really does sound like you need to get your K-55's tested to make sure the diaphragms are good. I mean, they're almost 50 years old. OTOH, by the time you ship, test, and have the diaphragms replaced, you may have wished you had just bought new ones -- they are not terribly expensive. https://www.parts-express.com/atlas-sound-pd-5vh-40w-compression-driver--242-858 I wouldn't give up on them yet.

  19. Haha ... Gravitation. Gravitation is a textbook on Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity, written by Charles W. Misner, Kip S. Thorne, and John Archibald Wheeler. Was required reading in (physics) Graduate School about 40 years ago and still is today. Too difficult then, even more difficult today ... I am on page 27 of 1272 total pages and am completely "lost." OK; going back to reading Clive Cussler's books now

  22. Wife had a/nother follow up for her eyes... I went to the grocery. The lady in the white pants wasn't there. Whew!!! Wearing masks kinda takes the fun out of shopping... that and this social distancing thing. Can't see their smile thru the mask... but, the eyes don't lie. And yes, I did have fun with the ladies. I even bought some groceries. Stuff to make lasagna. .. my style. No meat. Lots of cheese and veggies. Zukes, onions, mushrooms, spinach, peppers, broccoli. Three cheeses. Parm, mozzarella and ricotta. Been a while since I've made it. I usually get a 9 X 13 and a 9 X 9 pan. I'll put it together this evening... if it cools off early [rain] or tomorrow AM.

  24. Update: Saw the ENT this morning. He thinks the Gabapentin and the hearing problem is mutually exclusive and coincidental. Diagnosis: Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss The hearing test: Perfect in my left ear and even better than normal in a couple places. It got all 100 tests tones and words correct. The right ear stinks (his words). It only scored a 34. There is a slight negative pressure in the bad ear. The treatment he's doing is injecting low amounts of steroids into the eardrum. One injection a week for three weeks. Also I'll be getting an MRI to check the communication and brain function between the brain and the ear. Then another hearing test after the injections to see if there's a change. So on Sept. 1st, I have two doctor's appts in different offices and the MRI in a third office. AND, it's my Dad's 86th birthday and I'd really like to go see him.

  26. I'll see if anyone can guess where this was taken. (was around 1982) In the foliage picture is my father. Though I don't recall exactly what he was looking at, it was probably similar to the valley picture as we were on a trail that went down pretty steep. Not a great picture but the picture with the buildings might show exactly where we are but it's not the traditional view that would give it away. I was always tickled with the one with my dad surrounded/framed with the leaves.

  27. Today was the day. I picked them up at the YRC terminal in Baxter Springs Kansas. They just set them in the back of my truck palletized and all I had to do was strap them down. Now I'm home and they're breaking in with some Widespread Panic (seems appropriate). They seem absolutely fine to me. I think the only reason they were B-stock was because the boxes looked like something, maybe a forktruck, had kind of sideswiped them. But the speakers look great. I see no problems. We've got woofage, squawkage and tweetage. Everything checks out A-OK.☺️ That's great to hear. Congrats on the Heresy's. Like the Cornwall's, everybody seems to love'em. My speakers were 18 days getting from Marinette, WI to Baxter Springs, KS. I don't think it should take that long, but SW MO / SE KS are kind of backwaters, I guess. All's well that ends well! I was a little concerned about how the natural cherry cornwalls would look next to my dark oak cabinets but I think it's fine. Here's a couple of quick pics. They're a little grainy because it was late in the evening and my camera isn't too good in low light. I'll try to get some better ones in a day or so. BTW, how long till they're broken in? They sound pretty darned good right now!

  31. Ow! my back! But seriously the subs might get better on the inside. If you're big on the 'stereo image"' the Cornwalls need to go where they need to go to give you the best imaging. Play with the toe in as well. Just my $0.02.

  32. I completely agree with you . Everything revolves around music. Besides the audio technical relevant threads there are wonderful music threads like " Viny Record Spinning, YouTube Spinning, Right this minute or " The other disc " .These threads are filled with endless musical content and make a lot of fun. I have bought so many records and CD's from bands that I could discover for myself again or were unknown to me.

  33. Just got home with them yesterday. First BLO oiling today. They sound awesome, and I've only listened with a crappy 20 year old boombox receiver with my iphone plugged into it via analog connection so far. Should I still update the capacitors? And planning to replace the stock grills with Beige linen, with the classic Klipsch badge in the upper right-hand corners. Took a look inside: K77, K57, K33, B3. All the goodies. Original owner said he'd never taken the backs off.

  41. I am completely baffled and confused by this thread, and claims we do not share musical tastes. I would guess that at least half, if not more, of all my posts have been about music. Duh. What is Right This Minute about if not about sharing musical tastes. In this section alone there are at least two ongoing musical threads involving vinyl and cds/digital. Almost every day somebody posts something, or mentions a piece of music in an ongoing thread. There have been dozens of threads about classical, jazz, rock , female vocalists, reggae, blues, etc. You name the genre and there have been threads and post about it. Oh and what about Members Weekly Music Recommendations, which lasted several years until some software revision killed it. It's all about the music. You Lounge lizards should get out around the Forum more.

  42. Thanks. I just talked to Ron from the Sound Seller and he is trying to find a freight terminal close to me. We have an XPO Logistics close by but they don't use them. Looks like it'll be Joplin, MO for pickup, which is fine with me as it's just an hour away. He said he has a couple of options there. As for amplification, it'll be my Parasound 2250 v.2. Probably not the hot ticket for Cornwall's but it's the best I have on hand. At least I won't be lacking for power.😄

  43. FIXED IT. Remember when, in the OP, I wrote: Well, today I switched to the 8 ohm taps, just to see if it would change the sound. Oh, my God. Totally different. I hadn't realized until listening at 8 ohms that I haven't been hearing what I'm accustomed to hearing from the McIntosh amp—the gravitas, the Luke Cage–like punch, the darkly romantic almost sinister, Wuthering Heights–like tonality surrounding the bell-clear details. It's all back, and more so. The Khorns play the McIntosh 240's qualities more gloriously than ever before. As of this writing, I've been listening, enrapt, for hours. All the detail, the high resolution that I'd had with the Heresies is now coming out of the Klipschorns with even more presence. The bass, midrange and treble frequencies sound much better integrated, smoother. (Thanks to the new Crites' AA crossovers, I suspect.) The midrange is still pushy and brassy, but now this sounds like a characteristic of the speakers rather than like something is broken. I've picked up the cues having to do with taming the mids: I use the Amarra player, and also have Amarra's EQ module. With some experimenting I arrived at these settings: The -2.5 Db reduction centered on 1995 Hz takes out much of the brassiness, while the increases at 4000, 6250 & 8000 Hz serve to restore specific frequencies at which I have some hearing loss. (With the Heresies and Music Hall Marimbas I typically set these freqs 2-3 times higher: 3 Db, 4 Db, and 2 Db, respectively.) It would still be nice to reduce what sounds like over-resonance in the mids and highs. My reading in this forum suggests trying wrapping the horns (e.g. with Noico Sound Deadener). Interested in your thoughts on this. Your collective thoughts so far have helped initiate me into the Realm of Klipschorn. Thank you.
