Breadboards? Here's a SRPP using a 6SL7 to drive a 71A. DC heating, because directly heating with 5 volts AC is a challenge I really doubt I can pull off. Polypropylene/oil caps used for cathode/filament bypassing. James universal OPTs. The circuit shined on my LaScalas I had at the time. Not much gumption at 800 milliwatts a side, but it sure had a nice sound.3 points

The first is my everyday amplifier, a conventional type of OTL amplifier using 6C33C output tubes. I quite like the second one too; again OTL, using 6082 output tubes. The novelty with this one is that there are no transformers at all; it runs directly from the mains supply. It's based on one of the earliest OTL designs, by Dickie and Macovski in 1954. Regretfully, my constructions tend to be rather utilitarian in comparison to some of the beautiful ones built by others!3 points

*Should say MY new gear vs vintage gear. Out of curiosity played an album on my current stereo and same album on previous stereo from 1980. I’m relieved that I didn’t waste money. Was surprised at how much better the new stuff sounded. Night and day difference. Just had the Yamaha CR-1020 professionally cleaned/Re-capped/ brought into spec too.2 points

Hey all, I’m very excited to have just purchased a used set of Khorns. Stock 77 raw birch that was finished by someone along the line. They are in good working order, really happy with the what they can do so far. The only thing I’m still sorting out is how to get the the tops to throw further back into the room. As of now I’m really only getting the imaging I’m looking for about 6 ft or so from the front wall. I’d really like to sit back at least 10 ft or so. They sit along a 13’ wall. The room length is 14’. In my music production work I typically set up near fields in an equilateral triangle and try to sit directly inside it, usually along the front wall of a room. I treat the front wall, first reflections and have a cloud on the ceiling. This set up is no that of course. My goal is to listen on the Khorns in a less analytic way and more visceral way, but I have missed the image I usually get from being in that triangle. I have pretty good corners for the low end section but I’ve been experimenting with twisting the tops out a bit, which seems to help, but I would like to keep full Khorn angled together. Im thinking false corners in perfectly good corners seems like a bit much, but I’m wondering if I could build one half for the front wall that essentially tilts the corner outward reducing the overall angle to 75 or 80 degrees...anyone have any experience with that?I’ll keep experimenting but any insight appreciated!2 points

I reset my Marantz late last night. Too late to run the Audyssey Program. Gee, I think my speakers sound better without this. I have a mixture of soft & hard surfaces in the room so it seems to be OK as far as I'm concerned. Without the Audyssey, the highs and bass are much cleaner. I also think the dynamics are better. I'm using no tone controls at all. These 5 speakers are Rocking Baby.2 points

I'll check youtube for it before my premium trial ends @oldtimer Editor in Chief? @dirtmudd Good music! I'm not intoxicated today, what I have here is the last of the LP haul that was cleaned and not played yet. Have an appointment tomorrow at the record store and unfortunately Argus was the only Wishbone that made the cut to stay, not tunes wise but condition of vinyl. *Nope I'll take those two skips- one on each, and keep them, they're good! Next up early 70s folksy stuff that is fun and reminiscent of the Dead. This one was held together with packing tape long ago, the strings from inside were coming out, took most off and put gorilla tape so the record couldn't slip out. Sleeve P Media VG2 points

Klipsch was supposed to help add sound to McLaren's driver aid practice machine, but the pandemic halted that....still hope that works out. It meant an engineer would have to go to England and work with the McLaren team. Sounds like a nice adventure, especially for a British engineer that loves F1 racing 😀2 points

Lazy day today, categorized some stuff and am getting ready for my continued adventures. Wishbone Ash today: Starting with Argus that I recalled when played a hundred pages back by someone else. Then have Four and Pilgrimage to go, they're pretty inventive with their sound!2 points

I was mentioning to the fellows on RTM just now that I was going to listen on the BRAND NEW Klipsch RP-600M stand mounts, but then, I realized that the Rega is NOT connected to the Marantz AVR, but the new Parasound p6 preamp! , so, I am enjoying it for a first listen through the Martin Logan ESL 9's ... What a recording! But, for your pleasure, here is a photo of the new 600M which has been all the rage on youTube by the reviewers. I bought them for the theater rig, but they are very good for music. These are in the walnut finish.2 points

Well, well my friends! It has been WAY TOO LONG since my last visit here, but whenever I spin vinyl in RTM, I always make it a point to come here with a little gallery of what is spinning as I type here now.... This classic LP.....2 points

Hey guys On The Fly is just fine the only thing is you'll most likely get a electric spark sound out of your speakers. It's not spark going to your speakers its just the amplifier reproducing the sound of the connection change.2 points
