  7. Hello All! (Long Time Lurker, 1st Time Post) I'm still attempting to wrap my head at the fact that I managed to get a pair of very-good Condition Klipsch Epic CF-3s. On top of that, they're Version 1s! I've always made sure to get Klipsch when it comes to home audio, but I've always wanted to own a pair of 'vintage' Klipsch speakers and I'm very fortunate to have found and-now Own a pair. These will be replacing my RF-82iis So with that out of the way, I'm currently still looking at past comments to see if they can help guide me regarding how to power these beasts, but I do have some initial questions... Do y'all recommend putting them on risers? Making the horn more ear-level? For right now, I will be using them as a Home Theater configuration, What modern Amplifier would you suggest goes well with the CF3s? I've seen a few members highly recommend Crown amps. (My current AVR is a Pioneer Elite SC-71) Since I'm in cooperating them in my Home theater setup, any recommendations for Center Speaker to compliment CF3s power? From what I can tell/hear, everything works beautifully, but in case a part fails & knowing replacement parts for close to nonexistent for the Klipsch Epics, where do you guys go for replacement parts? Anything else you would suggest for someone who is new to the Klipsch Epic speaker line? I appreciate you taking the time and answering my questions and glad to be a part of a very select Klipsch fanbase! V_O_R

  14. A KV-4 is up for sale on Ebay. Less than a day left and still at a great price. Anything under $350 is fairly good. Congrats on the Epic score, they look great in your room. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-Klipsch-KV-4-Center-Channel-Speaker/383721528937?hash=item595795de69:g:SH0AAOSwMrxfYQrt

  18. Going to do it again in two weeks. We do a few projects on the house to help his kids with the upkeep before kicking back at a bonfire. It is an oasis for several of us. You can almost hear PF playing in the background. We wait for the fire to burn down some before cuing up "Wish You Were Here"!

  19. The real advantage of the AMT-1s over the stock K-400 midrange horns/K-55 drivers is that you don't have to worry about the loss of vertical directivity of the midrange horn/driver like you do with stock La Scalas. So you can put the AMT/La Scalas just about anywhere that you wish and still get an outstanding center phantom image without having to use a lot of absorption around the loudspeakers. The SPUDs can go wherever you need to put them to get good LF coverage at whatever listening position that you choose. Just about any position where the AMT-1s are putting their output toward the center of the room (forward or rear) will work to provide coverage across the room. The only constraint that I see is the bass bin coverage above 200 Hz--that would probably need to be aimed toward the center of the living/listening space. Chris

  21. I say if it is affordable to you then get it. Try it out for a while and then decide. I am sure if it does not meet your expectations you could easily pass it on to another fan. Bill

  23. I have a nice set of industrial La Scala’s for sale. I bought these from a forum member less than a year ago. I love them, but don’t have room to keep them. They have Dave A’s smahl tweeter with the de-120 driver. The woofers were also replaced with Eminence Kappa 15c. Rebuilt AA crossovers. The Dog houses are braced and are panted with Duratex. These speakers sound fantastic. I really hate to let them go. I can send better pictures if anyone is interested. $1,500 located close to Evansville, IN.

  28. Hello all, long time lurker but first time posting on this forum. To start of with a little history on my post topic. I’ve always enjoyed music, and during my 23 years in the military (Air Force (AKA flyboy) that’s for the vets on the forum, btw thank you for your service, I grew to appreciate fine audio gear. I started of with a inexpensive Fisher late 80’s multipeace rack system, then graduated to Carver separates in the early 90’s with some DBX gear thrown in. When surround became a thing replaced it all with B&K equipment bought from Tweeter in Virginia. All along this time I went through a myriad of Bose floor standing speaker to include 901’s, 601’s and 501’s (I didn’t know any better) but finally settled on some Bose 10.2 speakers I got for a steal. Fast forward to 2009 and a year after I retired I went to the local hi-fi shop (I now work there) and purchased a pair of Klipsch RF-63 speakers.....OMG awesome sound and what has followed is purchasing the following, rc-62Ii, Rs-52, Rs-62ii, Rs-52ii, rc-64iii, and 2 years ago a pair of la Scala II walnut speakers. Now I was good until I bought the la Scala, then it was “they sound better with tubes”. Heck before you know it Rogue audio Pharoah, then RP-7, the Atlas magnum II amp, but no, let’s go all in, hand built tube amp (I really enjoyed this) and now in 3-6 weeks a brand new pair of La Scala AL5’s my dream speakers. I can honestly say music has never sounded better and the knowledge I have gleaned from this forum over the years is priceless so thank you all. Here is a list of my current system, please advise on any improvements I may gain in your experience. Rogue Audio RP-7 Pharoah Atlas Magnum II Yamaha CX-A5000/5200 Sony HAP-Z1ES OPPO UDP-205 HA-1 Tavish Audigio Phono pre-amp Music Hall MMF 7.1 Elekit TU-8800 Antimode 2.0 Assorted Ashley PEQ/EQ’s Luxman AS-55 Kramer VS-88a selectors like my topic says Klipsch can be dangerous, but oooooohhhhh soooo good

  29. Rage by Bob Woodward. Woodward's methods and "secrets" are well described there and elsewhere. The result is extremely credible and extraordinarily easy and quick to read. You'll breeze right through it. Informative detail on numerous puzzling stories you've heard over the past year. https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Rage/Bob-Woodward/9781982131739

  39. It seems like every room will have compromises. I have the two bass traps sitting behind the system. Those are 8" thick. All others are 6" and easily hung with a picture hanger. You can get these in all kinds of colors and fabric. You can even get pictures transferred to the front of each panel . I will add some pictures under my system. The ones on my computer are too big to add to this post.

  40. I have Crites speakers. I bought them about a year ago and messed around with them for several months. The sound was pretty good but fell apart unless you were within the apex of that triangle. My room is 7.5'X13'x21'. I bought 11 GIK sound panels. The wall panels, diffusion panels and the bass traps are all bass traps. They are all 6" thick and 8' thick. At the same time I used the Vandersteen formula for speaker placement. It is on their website. Wallah! After this setup and placement of the panels my bass is much better, imaging is superb and I can walk around the room and the sound is pretty much the same. Previously I had complete cancellation of certain frequencies. Sound panels are definitely one of the vital parts of a sound system. Granted I have a dedicated listening room and plenty of room for the panels.

  41. My first hi fidelity stereo was Sansui separates back in like 1975. AU-7700 was my integrated amp. My tuner was TU-5500 maybe? The Sansui separates were amazing back then, and still sought out and prized by many even today. A couple years later I was driving a Peavey CS-800 professional amp off the Sansui AU-7700 pre amp outputs. To Peavey SP-1 loudspeakers in my LR 400 watts per channel with these little red clipping indicator lights. The Peavey amp weighed like 75 lbs alone. Fighting acoustic feedback to my Sony turntable was the biggest culprit. Used to close the plastic dust cover and put pillows on and around the turntable, on the floor. We were young and foolish, and smoking reefer madness.
