  1. Googled cheap places to live and Fort Wayne Indiana popped up, rolled the dice and bought a home there. Just got stuff situated with internet and music hooked up yesterday & today, enjoying some tunes and figured i would stop in. Household dynamics changed since mom died and i had to get out for my sanity. Crazy moving to a place i have never been to and hours from friends and family but feels good so far. Plenty of tinkering to do on this 100 year old home will keep me busy.

  2. I went with a friend to his dad's farm. His dad rode up on a dirty bike, and asked us if we wanted to ride it. My friend said "no" (first alarm) and I said "sure". We were about 14-15 years old. It was running but it sounded different from the other dirt bikes I've ridden (2nd alarm ) and it was a little larger than my old Z50 or my beat up Hodaka 125 (3rd alarm) I got on this huge beast and took off. I instantly noticed it had a lot more power (CR500) but I wasn't a ***** like my buddy. The front wheel instantly pops up, lean forward and ride it out. That was cool, so I had to show off and nail it through all the gears, like I always do to test the HP of anything I'm piloting. Holy Crap....that thing took off like nothing I've ever ridden. It didn't scare the poop out of me but I did respect it. I'm so glad I didn't wad it up. I think I made it through 3 gears!

  5. From a posting of mine on rec.motorcycles.dirt, back in 1998: >>I was wondering what the funniest thing anyone have ever see/witnessed while riding. This happened way back in the early '80's. My buddy, who was accustomed to riding his very old Husky 250, had just purchased a used Yamaha 400 and was riding it for the first time. The Yamaha had undergone some modifications by its previous owner, and my friend was having trouble adapting to its "toggle switch" throttle. I was following him up a steep, rocky hill, and I had to back away because he was throwing rocks at me by spinning the rear wheel. A good thing, it turned out, because the bike suddenly hooked-up and spit him off the back. He managed to hold on to the handlebars, though, so there he was riding the bike Superman-style with his toes dragging in the dirt. The bike stood-up on its rear wheel, did one-and-three-quarter pirouettes, and then shot off the left side of the trail, its front wheel in the air and my friends feet still dragging on the ground. The bike ran straight into a tree, CLIMBED UP THE TREE about ten feet (by which time my friend had finally let go), and then executed a perfect back-somersault over my friend's head. It landed on its wheels, again headed for the tree, and ran right over my friend who was lying on his back in front of the tree. I laughed so hard that I fell off MY bike.

  8. Jason Sorry to hear about your mom . I am also no longer in Chicago , I've been dealing with my Father who has Dementia . Been running between Florida and Ohio as he has homes in both places. I really enjoyed our get together and wish we had done more. I guess the good news is the MCM's are in a much larger place although I haven't set them up yet. Congrats on your purchase and good luck !

  12. Was driving yesterday when I had a memory hit me. A number of years ago, I was getting to know a new acquaintance better.... the budding stages of calling him a friend. He was a musician (played upright bass) and had a TON of speakers/amps & other goodies in his condo. He committed suicide while having my copy of a book in his possession. While there to retrieve it, I visited with his niece who was his executrix and you could tell she was overwhelmed with all the "stuff" he had. So, I offered to buy 100% of the speakers, amps, upright, guitars.... and put a lot of work into it to find a fair value for her and then showed her a discount amount because of the risk I was taking to buy it all blind. She jumped at chance to move it all out. (I could have probably paid her half of what I did and she'd been fine as to her it was all junk). I sleep well at night that I did right by her. One of the items in there were a pair of Khorns. Someone off the forum (forget who) expressed an interest in buying them so, while I was over there one day picking up a load of stuff, I had him on the phone. He was going to buy them and pick them up at the location so I didn't have to move them. Thinking he might want to hear his new (yet unseen) babies sing, I put a system together, found a CD (George Harrison, All Things Must Pass) and put on one of my favorite tracks......'What is Life'. Turned it up....music started.....and ZERO vocals. I was mortified....absolutely panicked.... I was looking at the speakers, I was totally flummoxed...... The sound of the song came on strong and sounded fantastic....yet, there wasn't a single word uttered.... I looked again at the speakers, stuck my head by each driver and yes, I could hear sound. Looked at the crossover (as though I knew what I was looking at!), checked wiring at the amps..... finally, turned song off and did it again.....same thing. How can the song sound so fantastic yet have a huge hole of all the vocals missing??? I was getting frantic. Cutting to the chase a bit..... I had no clue that the reissue of this CD had two versions of What is Life. One was the original and the second was the same song with the vocals stripped out of it. By happenstance, this is what I landed on. What I also noticed is at the very beginning and if I recall (been years since I've listened to this, need to refresh) but as I recall, at the beginning of the song and beginning of a chorus line, you can faintly hear some background singing as it's then cut out. It's very faint but discernible. So I've just now taken 3 minutes of your life that you can never get back and you know a useless piece of drivel that you might not have known (or with the story and song, is that TWO pieces of drivel??) One of our new forum members might stop by here this upcoming weekend to give the Jubilee's a listen.... I was (am) mulling over in the back of my head various things to play for him and that's when this memory came back. I was deviously wondering if I could/should play that track and if he'd love the sound or be familiar enough with it to cause some concern that the mythic Jubilee's play everything except for vocals.

  13. It's pretty tight. It certainly didn't seem to rotate when I tried. I think it was more of a ...well...hate to call it a bend but I didn't perceive it to rotate. Yet it did flex. Sure is fun having toys around even if this does belong to my brother in law. We are borrowing it to pull down the fascia boards, you can see them missing. One was looking like it was rotting out.... turns out they just put a REALLY crummy board up there. Spent all of yesterday working them down, right side is de-nailed where appropriate and now have to denail the left side. Much prefer the lift to scaffolding and my backhoe reaches down better than it reaches up.

  16. Hmmm.... question.... If the 2nd transponder is my issue, would it follow that if I can pull it in at say, 90 and it fixes my HD signal, that the SD signal should also be good OR, is there a dual aim and you have to find a sweet spot for both?

  21. I am enjoying my 2014 V-Strom 650. Not too much power, still enough to easily ride 100 mph all day on the interstate (the KLR needed more). Very neutral riding position, Givi side and top cases... wouldn't bat an eye at touring on it. I have a larger bike for long rides, this one is ideal for 'fun' rides.

  22. Just a heads up: the racks went off sale but the amp stands are now on sale. Regular = $24.99, XL = $39.99, both get free shipping. https://www.monoprice.com/category/mounts-&-stands/tv-wall-mounts/tv-&-component-stands

  23. Welcome to Indiana Ft Wayne is a nice place, close to alot of nice lakes. The Embassy Theater is a favorite with great touring acts. Nice new minor league baseball park in a revitalizing downtown. Looks like you all had snow flurries yesterday but coming from Chicago the weather should not be an issue. I am 1.5 hours south, when you get better situated we will have to get together.

  26. Alright wasn't that hard to find: "Klipsch pro speakers with 'rat fur' (black carpeting) were manufactured during several years when another Hope company called WWR was doing the manufacturing for Klipsch. I think they are all made of an OSB-type material, are carpeted with corners, and all bear a four digit part number similar to it's cousin made before and after at the Klipsch factory in Hope. KP250 -> KP2502 KP115 -> KP1000 (there are variations with crossover that carry CX designation) KP3002 was only made by WWR and is a two way cabinet, Klipsch made KP362 and KI362, both of which are three way models" KP-2500-C.pdf

  27. You should get the KLF-C7 or KV-4 instead of the academy. This is a good deal on one, but a bit of a drive: https://grandrapids.craigslist.org/ele/d/smyrna-klipsch/7207346968.html closer, but more $: https://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/ele/d/elgin-klipsch-center-speaker-klf-c7/7207354258.html or this would be decent: https://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/ele/d/sugar-grove-klipsch-kt-lcr-thx-speakers/7224066634.html

  33. Welcome to Indiana! I've never spent much time there, other than working there a few times. If you're into automotive museums, The Auburn, Cord, Duesenberg Museum is a little north, pretty cool place. I'm sorry to hear about your Mom.

  34. Hope Texas doesn't shut-down, but being Flu season, there's always the real possibility. The Holiday family gatherings won't help anyone. The wife and I (my girlies too) will be doing doing it solo this year. Our eldest took-off back to college in Sept., she's taking 15 hrs., 9 of which require class attendance. So far so good. She's a sharp cookie, but I still worry about her... the wife more than me.

  36. I'm considering upgrading my speaker wires (from plain copper in clear plastic old Monster) to something shielded... I've recently started getting an odd, occasional static and/or whine. G5?? Starting to trouble shoot... distortion only in one speaker and even when volume is at zero. Any thoughts? I have a pair of '76 La Scalas where one is close to my Sansui 9090DB and the other is on the other side of the room 12' away. Will having one cable shorter than the other have any adverse effect? I've been told they should be the same length but with the price of cables these days not sure I want to waste the money.

  37. Not my theatre room, just living room. I have RF-7ii's and RC-64ii for the fronts and RS-3's for the rear. For subs, I have a SVS SB-2000 and an Outlaw x12-Ultra. The AVR is a Denon x3300w with a 2-channel Parasound HCA1200ii. I'm currently looking for an amp to power all 5 channels.
