  4. Yup, getting into trouble again tonite me thinks. Unzippin a few new ones just for giggles. "A nod is as good as a wink... to a blind horse" Faces 3rd album released in 1971 along with their 2nd. "Stay with Me" with Rod Stewart's vocals capped it all off pushing it to #6 in the US and #2 in the UK. Reissued in 2015 and remastered. MicroMara when you gonnna send me the original you borrowed long ago? I KNOW you've still got it!!! Well nm I got a replacement now! John Petrucci's second prog album released in October 30th shows just what the former Dream Theater's lead guitarist is made of! Amazing! Toss in Michael Portnoy on drums and Dave LaRue on bass and BOOM it's jammin! This thing COOKS! Better grab this one! Enjoy

  8. my grand daughter is getting my stereo. She the only one that enjoys music. Boy hasn't found out [yet] that having a good stereo is cool. agree that some of the 60's music... well,.... you have to be in the right state of mind [or lack of]. I pull some out and a lot of times it's "Not tonight... er let me change my altitude before I pass judgement"... I could give a rip about Hendrix's performance on JimiHendrix/OtisRedding Monterey Pop lp the Otis side... love it. I like this Hendrix live performance

  9. Reminds me more of the Blues Brothers with vocals and guitar from late 60s rock! **Think these two are the only Verve Records I have. They're fifty years old and the vinyl does not have any background noise, I could keep the pre @ 60 db instead of putting it down to 50 like I have to do sometimes. The runout is silent!!! No pops or funny noises that sometime come if I don't get there in time. You Bast*rd record companies, these guys ay Verve solved it in the freakin' 1960s!!

  13. A couple of suggestions with this: 1) Note that a two-way La Scala crosses well at 400-800 Hz, but the trade-off of higher frequency crossover points is the loss of horizontal polar coverage. The good thing about the La Scala bass bin is that the two mouths rejoin each other at the mouth (there is one mouth, not two, as in the Belle and Khorn). This keeps the polar coverage from bifurcating as much at higher frequencies, but the polar coverage is still better the lower you can cross the bass bin with the HF horn/driver. 2) The JBL 2425 is a 1" diameter exit driver. The issue with these size drivers is that they really don't have much response below ~1 kHz, so your choices of how to join the crossover region become much less flexible. (See the green trace below for a JBL 2425 on a 2370 horn): Note also the fall off in response above ~7 kHz, which means that there is little advantage to using this particular 1" compression driver over a good 2" compression driver. You'll find yourself having to boost the highs, or conversely, attenuating the mid-band to match the highs, just like good 2" drivers. 3) The reason why 2" compression drivers are used on the K-510 and K-402 horns is that they can extend their output at least one octave lower than 1" compression drivers, i.e., 500 Hz or slightly lower. This gives you choices in where you can place the exact center crossover frequency that you don't have with a 1" CD. 4) The K-510 (first generation-without "mumps") clone horn having a 2" diameter throat works quite well and the price is very good: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Replacement-Horn-KLIPSCH-for-K510-Speaker-Cabinet-15-x-9-Bolt-On-2-90-x-60/333537431240?hash=item4da8614ec8:g:8pYAAOSwQNNeYpIy The only trade-off here is that at lower frequencies, the polar coverage has a slight tendency to "waistband" relative to the mumps version. This horn will fit in the same height top-hat (with a replacement baffle) as the K-55/K400 plus the K-77 tweeter. Here is a polar sonogram of a different horn showing the effects of waistbanding which are much more pronounced than the K-510-clone horn: If you are worried about this, you can actually create the mumps yourself in the clone horn by using modeling clay to approximate the mumps in the second generation horn: 5) Good 2" compression drivers exist that don't chatter above 12 kHz, but they are generally $100-$200 more than less expensive titanium diaphragm 2" compression drivers. The FaitalPRO 2" compression drivers are, in particular, very good above 10 kHz relative to 2" B&C drivers and JBL drivers. Chris

  14. this could be done. I make toast in the broiler, tho. we're quarantined. No ... we're not sick. Wife is going to the Dr for an out patient thing. She passed her test taken today... and so we are being shunned until Tues....to an abundance of caution. Given she is around the little ones every day, I don't think her getting a test once a month would be a bad thing. the bluegill fillets were delicious... Just rolled in corn meal and S & P.. deep fried we stayed up late... watching tv. Was a nice quiet evening

  24. Pro tip: when loosening or tightening large or very tight fasteners, be sure to push down, rather than pulling up. Use your body weight to help you, instead of using only your strength. She has pretty good technique otherwise, but seeing bare feet around all that metal is a bit tension-causing. Also, how does she magically manage to keep grease from sticking to her fingers? Please share the secret.

  32. I think the next step up is the K-horn. I have had the Hersey, Forte II, Chorus II, Cornwall, and La Scala. I will give you my thoughts on this matter. The next step laterally would be the Cornwall. The Chorus II has about the same bass response and the similar mid and tweeter frequencies as the Cornwall. To pick the La Scala as the successor, you gain an unworldly better mid frequency but you simply lose all bass response. In picking the Klipschorn as the successor, you gain that great mid frequency that the La Scala has(that the Chorus II hasn't) and you get the tight throbbing bass of the king of horns.

  37. Yup, it's out there. The neighbor who lives in Sherwood Forest across the street tested positive according to what his wife told a neighbor the other day. He was over mulching the leaves up w/his lil John Deere w/the cans on the back. Perfect timing for him although I wouldn't wish that virus on anyone. I think she knew better than to call me since I always get tons blowing into my yard from their place since with the wind blowing outta the west into my front yard. Kid next door has two big oaks out back so I get his too! Gotta love it this time of the year! Stay safe out there brother!

  43. Ok, you talked me into it - no mouse fir - it will be a Duratex finish for the 320's. Unfortunately I don't have a big paint booth and the thought of using a roller it on is not that appealing after looking at the results you can get with a sprayer. Sigh Sorry Dave, but I really love my 301's with the Crites Chorus crossovers. I got quite a bit of advice HERE, prior to making that change. And you may not be aware of one important decision point - my 301's are a series 1 pair but they had two different crossovers in them when I got them. One crossover for a 301 series 1 and the other for a 301 series 2 due to a prior owner's tinkering. When I got these speakers I knew they would need work and I did so with the intent to please one person - me. They do a great job in my workshop and will never see the redline with my amp because I really like my neighbors. Due to their power efficiency it doesn't take much for them to make the SPL uncomfortable just the way they are, so they are a match for me. I currently have 5 speaker projects robbing me of space, and the motorcycle season is over so I just moved the bike into the shop, so I need to get to work. I have the KP-320's, the bass cabinet to a KP-450, a pair of Cerwin Vega AT 15's and a pair of AT 12''s and a pair of Infinity Monitor 2b's all needing my attention to bring them back to their prime. The 301's are finished and up on the wall in my shop where they are going to stay - note the big fat grin on my face. Trading a pair of reconditioned Cerwin Vega AT-12s for them was best Hi-Fi deal I ever made - even with the mismatched crossovers. Now if I could only stop staring off into space when listening to the 301's and get some work done - I would be in great shape !

  44. The Klipsch K-510 is a good candidate. It is modified tractrix design with a 2 inch throat. Overall the size is 15 in wide x 9 in tall x 5 in deep. It is a CD horn and can be used in a two-way system (it is the same design family as the big K-402). In the spirit of full-disclosure. I am biased and I also have a pair of these listed in the Garage Sale forum. -Tom
