  1. Those 2x4s are bracing which eliminated the boxy resonance that all previous cornwalls were known for. And it works. I would like to see you open up a myriad of other high end speakers and see what you find. You’d likely be disappointed in many that cost much more than a CW IV. Sometimes it’s the whole that’s greater than the sum of the parts. Just curious as to what your point is here? Are you trying to educate us, or just trolling? Shakey

  3. I was specifically saying go for the RP6000F's and another subwoofer over the RP8000F's and a single subwoofer. Of course if budget($$$) allows. Yes the RP502s would be better but have the least amount of immediate impact on your overall sound. Bill

  4. @AndreG.We'll see but financial constraints dictated a lower level purchase. Eventually a move up will happen. I'm just pleased to have quality sounds bouncing around the home again. @arttoThe digital I reffered to is my iMac with CDs ripped to iTunes playing through the onboard speakers. This is a big jump up for me after years of the aforementioned set up.

  7. @grasshopper I almost picked up an mfsl copy of that Walsh record back when it was under twenty bucks. Yep that's a regret, I prioritized a common 70s head habit instead that week and forgot about it. "Meadows" never did get the beginning of it but when it came on it got cranked through the Pioneer fm converter and Jensen Triaxials in that `73 Charger SE I had! Nice listen for this morning with the Guatemalan.

  9. @billybob I didn't forget about what I said the other night, I could log in but not post at all Sat evening. More from the motherlode This is one sweet sounding record... and I even had it toned down like I still had a roommate last night. The smells of brats, onions and bell peppers with Van picking and strumming would only fit together in my world and man I enjoyed it yesterday! Wild Night (complete version) - Van Morrison with Ronnie Montrose - YouTube YT won't let me put it up but it's worth your time if you aren't in a head-banging mood. Speaking of... one of the earlier good ones in that regard is on at least one song... Ronnie Montrose. Had to play their first afterwards! * "We're Dealin' Posting" again!

  11. Not a pretty sight. Now I know why the Cornwall IV is so heavy, it is the used 2x4's placed inside to keep the front baffle from caving in. Inexpensive horn material and low-grade x/o parts and cheap stamped steel woofer basket.

  16. The Hypex model I'd use for any of the Heritage series of loudspeakers (all of them three-way loudspeakers) would be the FA123, which is a "one-in, three-out" DSP/amplifier plate amplifier module with three Hypex NCore amplifiers onboard. The three onboard NCore amplifiers include two 125 w/channel outputs for the bass bin and midrange, and one 100 w/channel output for the tweeter. You need one of these per loudspeaker if converting a three-way loudspeaker. One of these per loudspeaker could conceivably replace your DAC, your preamp, a separate DSP crossover, and your power amplifiers, leaving you with only a digital file server for your entire electronics (if the digital input of the FusionAmp is used instead of analog input). Each FusionAmp would be located at the loudspeaker, either embedded into the box or located in a separate DIY box that would be very close to or attached to the loudspeaker, with separate amplifier channel wires going to the bass bin, midrange, and tweeter inputs. I plan to use the two FA122 amplifiers (one-in, two out) that I just ordered to bi-amp my Jubilees/TADs as soon as they arrive. They will replace my two of my Xilica DSP crossover input channels and four output channels, a First Watt F3 amplifier and a Crown D-75A amplifier, and eliminate the four wires going to the loudspeakers, in favor of a single digital signal S/PDIF (optical or electrical) or AES3 connection from my AVP. I will provide an electrical power cable to each FA122. Chris

  18. Excellent analogy of why Audio is a far less expensive hobby than Automotive tweaking!! As a fellow "measurement guy" of many years as well, I'd like to see some Cornwall IV curves too!
    2 points
  19. That's because automobile dynamometers aren't exactly cheap and available. Doing a chemical analysis of the oil and transmission fluids/filters also isn't inexpensive. The audio measurement gear costs $94 for the microphone, with freeware running on a personal computer. The microphone will last a lifetime. Chris

  20. It's only useful to those who have older Cornwalls to actually see what is under the hood. Other than the Corns being "3 way bass reflex," there's nothing in common with the IV vs. the 40-50 year old versions except the box size. New tweeters, new Midranges, newer spec K-33s?, port tweaks, anti resonance lumber, MDF instead of Birch Plywood, different absorbing materials, and the greatest change of all, the Balancing NETWORK!! Heck even the grilles and logos are different. What car enthusiast doesn't want to look at the engine compartment on any car before they even drive it? Speakers are the same way. Although, I'm not about to take apart my compression drivers any time soon, or my amplifiers for that matter..............unless they need repair, but that's not likely since I don't abuse my gear and modern capacitors do last way longer than the ones from 50 years ago.

  27. Hello everyone! My new home theater room is under construction. It should be 244"x164"x92" (6.15mx4.16mx2.33m). My primary use would be for watching movies (over 95%). I'd like a 7.1.4 system (maybe 7.2.4 later we'll see). The receiver will be a Denon AVR-X6700H. The package I have in mind is RP6000FB x2, RP-504c x1, RP-402S x4, SPL-150 x1 and CDT-5650-CII x4 What do you think about it? Should I get RP8000 and/or RP-502S instead? Are the CDT-5650 much better than CDT-3650 as atmos speakers? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

  28. SOLD. SOLD. SOLD 1981 Raw Birch Klipsch La Scalas Here is a chance to own an absolutely gorgeous pair of raw birch 1981 La Scalas in the configuration you prefer. The cabinets are in overall excellent shape, with a few dings here and there, but commensurate with their age. I guess I would rate them at 8.5 out of 10. Cabinets have been treated with Watco Rejuvenating Oil in clear natural color. Each configuration has been fully tested and all components are in excellent condition. Attached photos have been taken to show the cabinets prior to your choice of components. Differences in shading is purely the fault of my mostly terrible lighting in the space....but they are both consistently mellow golden. Option 1: All original heritage parts $1995 Tweeters – K77M Square magnet drivers Midrange – K55V push pin drivers, with new driver to horn gaskets Woofers – K33E Square Magnet. Woofer hatch has new sealing gasket Crossovers – AA configuration (no mods, all original) Option 2: All new components $2750 Tweeters – DaveA MAHL tweeter lens with DE-120 drivers (the synergy between these tweeters with the A55G and K55V mid drivers is outstanding) Midrange – A55G drivers, with new driver to horn gaskets OR...a pair of the endangered solder lug K55V drivers, rarely seen outside of the jungles of Alaska. Woofer – Eminence Kappa 15C. Woofer hatch has new sealing gasket (Superb woofer that is quick and dynamic in the mid-bass region.) These woofers have been "burned in" for approx. 35 hours, and they sound excellent. Crossovers – AA configuration with all new components, including autoformers and coils from Crites. New capacitors which are Jantzen Z-Superior from Parts Express. These crossovers have been fully tested and sound terrific. Upon payment, these speakers will be built to your desired configuration and readied for pickup or shipment. This will take only 1-2 days. If you need these to be shipped, I highly recommend utilizing Uship, which I have had good experience with. I will assist in this process to the best of my abilities; however the buyer assumes all responsibility for contacting and contracting with the shipper. Shipping cost is not included in the pricing. Payment: - USPS Money Order or certified bank check only. Trades will not be considered. Please do not ask if these are still available. If this ad is active, they are available. Serious buyers only please. I will demonstrate these within my home system, but all necessary Covid precautions must be taken. Looking forward to hearing from the folks that just bought theirs last week for $200...... Located in NW Indiana, approx. 1.75 hrs from Chicago, 2.5 hours from Indianapolis, 1.5 hrs from Grand Rapids. Please message me on this platform. Purchase commitments will be evaluated by timestamp. Thanks very much for your consideration.

  29. In spite of all that 2020 has thrown at us, we managed to harvest 6 of our turkeys today. Final weights were 4x 12lb, 18lb, and 19lb. Small batch, free ranged, free of antibiotics and growth hormones, etc etc etc. Had some people come help with the harvest and I was able to send them home with a turkey for their effort. It's a pretty cool experience and I always feel just that little bit extra connected to our fore fathers during this time of Thanksgiving by doing so.

  36. I've been saying for a few years, Franklin was way overrated as a coach and recruiter, they have no quarterback that can help them compete with other top tier programs, and should have never signed him to an extended contract, and it's got a spot light on it now. Sad times in Happy Valley.

  38. Another thing for sure is the passive bass on the Forte will in no way keep up with the crisp, tight bass from the LS. Nor will it provide near the same mid range experience as that of the LS mid horn. Both models may say Klipsch and indeed provide a similar “house” sound but in reality couldn’t be more different—

  43. Jerry, I don't know if you saw those Forte 2s for sale up in Columbia Falls. I'll attest to how good they sound and I've owned every Heritage model... still own Heresys, Belles, Cornwalls. You probably wouldn't have to close your eyes anymore... LOL. The Forte 2s are lots of performance in a small footprint. They are on Kalispell Craigslist under electronics. You can't miss 'em. Oh, and I totally get parting with the K-horns. They can sort of own you. It was the second move that made me make the tough decision on my 1996 K-horns. I had them for 12 years. But being a fan of the larger Klipsch, JBL and Altecs.... I am suprisingly happy enough with the Forte 2s. But I wouldn't go any smaller in the Klipsch line being that you were used to K-horns. You just won't be happy. I tried the small speaker thing with and without subs for years thinking that since I'm getting older the sound doesn't matter as much. Just didn't do it for me. I like the dynamics of large horn speakers with high efficiency. I run SET amplifiers primarily with less than 7watts/ch. Forte 2s are a good compromise between tower (space) and Heritage (efficiency/sound). The bare minimum IMO. I haven't heard the bigger Tangent series (Super Heresy?) yet but they seem to be in a similar league from what others say. Speakerlab 7 is also a very good contender in the same size. I own a pair of those as well. Speakerlabs are a close relative to Klipsch for sure. At least a couple of them anyway.
