  3. My guess would be "Dust in the Wind" simple and beautiful. Opposite of you they were my first rock concert and I think David Lee Roth's inspiration opened for them. Obvious parallels with Jim Dandy's and his stage persona. Dog-gone best $7.00 I've probably ever spent when Leftoverture came out and Black Oak Arkansas opened for them in the small WWWrestling arena here. Toughen up big-guy it's not broken it is separated from the HQ and the top is off of the GiJoe moon buggy. Those trash bags from the late 70s did disintegrate it came apart like safety glass breaks in half a second!

  4. No I wouldn't want to deal with rocks, here about 12' down you hit sand and gravel, no rocks bigger than road gravel. It can rain all winter and you have a puddle, dig 2 inches down and it dusty dry, water does not go deeper it seems, part of why ponds do so well here. I will take some pictures, it's going to be fun. This is a 3 minute time lapse to get a good idea.

  5. Our clay gets hard enough to smoke your tires on. When I was a kid, there was a smooth patch that we used to do "burn outs" on because I can see it coming... knowing the folks around here. I'll save you trouble .. Yes, I used to do burn outs, now I am one...

  9. when I was a young buck in the military, one night I had the lookout watch on the ship that I was on. I saw some very strange lights in the sky. I went from the bridge wing into the bridge and told the OOD that I wasn't sure what I was reporting. He said, "you mean those strange lights?" I said yes and he said, yeah I saw them too and I have no idea what they were. I learnt to report everything because on my first ever watch, the OOD came out to the bridge wing to ask why I didn't report a range light (that was more like a small lighthouse out on the water). I was only 18 at the time and I said, "I thought lighthouses went without saying." He sternly said, "NOTHING goes without saying."

  14. Yea wood stakes are a real pain to use, especially when they start splitting. I like to pound the stakes in so they are below the height of the form, they tend to get in the way when left higher. I have metal stakes in 3-4 lengths....I hate to use a 24" stake when the ground if tough, they can be hard to get out later. Modern motorcycle engines are getting upwards of 2HP:10cc displacement, and getting much better fuel economy.

  15. I have heard fortes sound really good in rooms much smaller than that. But place the listening seat as far away as practical for better driver integration. You should be fine in that room. Shakey

  21. Been busy, building permit approved so I have been forming to pour a slab. Looks like it will be poured next week, then the building can start. I used treated wood for the form, will try to reuse it for some benches once the building is done. One thing I found out the new (to me) stakes used to hold a form is MUCH better than the old 2x4 cut to a point on the end. The stakes are 3/4" thick round stakes, I used the 18" long stakes since the slab is sitting on the ground. The stakes are way easier than driving a 2x4 or even 2x3 into the ground which is like cement here.

  23. You know me well already! But before strangers come in here to look.... my valuables will be at the storage bin and relatives. Lps and stereo are high on the list. If the realtor doesn't like the art being gone, I'll ask her/him to paint a picture in the imagination of prospective buyer of what their stuff would look like there. Know I'm not thinking right, but neighbor got ripped off when his place was up for sale and I pick up on things that I've experienced! Oven's beeping got to check the stuffing.

  26. I was never particularly fond of that tune. May be overexposure to it... It got a lot of airplay. Have to admit to not listening too much to them after Dust. Last lp [of theirs] I have is Power I did get to see them in the mid 70's. Wanna say in '76. Played at a smaller venue in SouthBend IN.... Smaller as in, Not an arena. This place was set up for music/theater. @jimjimbo knows the place. Morris Civic Center/Auditorium prolly goes by a different name now.

  29. I have some like theses for sale. I custom make them and are priced the same as the used ones in the ad. The ones I make are coated in a sound damping and scratch resistant material. I offer them in pairs that are calibrated, one for HF and one for LF. Since most of us have more than one system, I give people a price break if they order more than one set. Let me know how many you want.

  30. I agree, that there is something lacking about the exhaust notes of most V-6s. Straight sixes, think vintage Jaguars, and flat sixes, Porsches, sound OK, presumably due to their firing orders. We have a surprising number of Ferraris and Lamborghinis prowling the streets of The Motor City. The sound of their V-12s is intoxicating. IMO, one of the biggest disappointments is the sound of the Viper V-10. It sounds like a vacuum cleaner.

  32. Yes, these new car, van, and pickup engines are amazing. When I traded in my 1998 Grand Caravan for a 2012 model, I went from a 3.8 litre pushrod V-6 made of cast iron, making 180 hp, and unable (in stock form) to rev past 4800 rpm, to a Pentastar 3.6 litre DOHC V-6 made of aluminum, making 283 hp, and able to spin happily to 6400 rpm. As well, the fuel consumption is about 25% better. With similar sized fuel tanks, the old one could go about 8 hours in mixed city and highway driving before needing gas, while the new van goes for around 10.5 hours before needing a fillup. It’s like getting 2-1/2 hours of free driving. However, it’s still a V-6 and sounds like it. No V-8 rumble, which is a pity. Making up for that is the great power bump between 4400 and 6400 rpm. If you leave your pedal on the floor, when the engine hits 4400 rpm, it really gets up and goes, which is great fun. The close-ratio 6-speed adds to the fun, but it’s easy to tell what it’s designed to do. The first 4 gears are close together, enabling the van to get to 120 km/hr - 75 mph quite quickly, presumably to make merging with highway traffic easy, even with a load in the van. Then, 5th and 6th gears are really tall (6th would produce 406 km/hr - 252 mph at redline, if there was much much more power available), for great fuel economy. The old 4-speed seemed okay, until I got a 6-speed and realized how much better an 8-speed would be, lol.

  36. John, one of my greatest musical regrets is not going to a Kansas concert circa '79 or '80. Great musicians. Can't recall if it was Carry on My Wayward Song or Dust in the Wind that was a last minute piece for their LP. They had a gap and needed to fill and Kerry Livegren said "I got this."

  39. ... was just thinking these new engines, not even high performance models are getting 1HP:10cc displacement. That's what we were getting out of our old motorcycles - early 70's. And thinking our little motors were doing pretty good for it.

  40. 6's just don't sound right, though. I won't dispute fast. the sound of a big block.... that is music

  41. Ahhh So @grasshopper you might have had a whole engine in that ride. I've got 3/4 in mine... a V-6 pushing more hp that that big block Charger from `73 did, only it was much faster! & did burn-outs for blocks.

  43. Oh????? You gotta see my "dirt". We have, what is called, caliche. Natural concrete. You get to that after you plow through the rock. First tool you want when digging a hole is a backhoe... clay is tough, but.... I would take clay over this rock pile... any day you should have seen me [trying to] drive a ground rod for the house. I ended up digging a trench 2 feet deep and 15 feet long, instead. The rod went about a foot and a half and STOPPED. Not even a fence post driver would move it any further. I'll be interested to see how this big Erector set goes together for ya. It does look like fun, to me.

  45. It's been so long since I did this I don't think round spikes were even used back then, well maby commercially ? I cut a 2x3 to a nice point to try, it was not going to happen, I got about 3" and it would take a 20 pound maul and mushroom the stake to go any more. Plus I have no plans to use one that heavy, for that long anyway, I am far from 30 these days.

  46. I second everything said above! These seldom come up for sale and almost never with crossovers (factory crossovers aren’t very good for home use). I have the 3 way version and hope to be buried with them. I have La Scalas, Belles, Cornwalls and A/B all of them for friends and everyone picks the 904’s. The slam of the La Scalas and Belles surprise everyone but after a few songs everyone wants to listen to the 904’s from then on... What driver’s attached to the 510 (sorry if I missed it above)? and if looks are a problem, they have a ton of potential... GLWS

  47. One pair of KPT-904s with new Crites crossovers with adjustable L Pad to adjust horn volume if needed. At real high volumes I like to lower the horn volume a tad. Refinished in Sherwin Williams semi gloss industrial enamel. They look better than new IMHO I like the semi gloss black with a finer texture. Local Pickup only Clarksville TN. $1500.00 for these amazing sounding speakers. Thanks Rich
