  1. Just showing off. Only pair in existence supposedly. Serial numbers are actually 3 and 4 so it makes me wonder what's up with 1 and 2 but nobody has any idea what's going on it seems so IDK. I heard over a year ago that they decided against making these a normal thing due to the very large grills on the cornwall not lending itself well to the lambswool material but these are nice. There are the early problems where the magnets weren't flush so there's a few bumps but the actual material stretched nicely.

  3. Had a guy email me asking if I was still letting Forum members try these out. I go and look at the old thread and it was from two years ago so I guess it is time to remind people that this has not stopped and this is for the both the SMAHL V2 and LMAHL V2. PM me if you are interested.

  4. Clearing out my brother's estate, I've been selling off his stereo equipment. Nothing special, certainly in comparison to what you'll find on this forum. I was down to the last pair of speakers. They were Technics SB-A51's, a floorstander. I think of these as coming with one of those cheap rack systems. Simulated woodgrain vinyl wrapped MDF cabinets. 10" woofer, 3" midrange, 2" tweeter. TWO ports (the speaker label said they were "horn loaded ports") and each port was a different size and depth. Just cheap looking speakers all around. I posted them on craigslist for the absurdly low price of $25 for the pair, probably because I was comparing them to my Heresy's and other Klipsch speakers I've owned. I decided I'd hook them up so prospective buyers could audition them, although at the price I didn't think anyone would care what they sounded like, other than to make sure they worked. Brushed off the dust on the drivers and in the ports using a soft paint brush. I removed some melted candle wax off the cabinets, covered some stains on the grills and even washed them in my bath tub! In the one day they were mine to listen to, they really weren't that bad. Definitely accentuated in the bass which I had to equalize down. Nothing to write home about in the mids and highs, but for casual listening, they worked. But they were certainly ugly and cheap looking. The guy who bought them was probably in his 60's and wanted to get back in to listening and was bargain hunting for a system. Richard is no audiophile, but he bought a system at the PX when he was in Okinawa in the Marines. Told the guy in the store he wanted the best. Some Pioneer speakers, a Sansui 9090 receiver. Well, somehow his brother got hold of the system and smoked everything. Richard would love to recreate that system of yore but money was tight. He bought a receiver for ten bucks from Goodwill. The turntable he bought from Amazon was a P.O.S. so he returned it and he's still looking. Has a 5 disc CD changer, and is now thrilled to have found a pair of speakers that were cheap, and work. It was cool to see how thrilled he was with his craigslist find.

  6. Cabinets are alittle beat up but still a deal! They are mislabeled as RB-76's on the auction site. I thought about buying just to flip them but instead thought I would give someone on here a chance since I own a pair. Now go go go!!

  11. Thank you. The towers are 98db sensitive, pretty much the same as the R820f. Bookshelves work great if they are sitting on something like a shelf, but will need to be on stands if no shelf. Once they're on stands, they take up as much room as a floor stander.

  13. Claude J1 has a Yamaha CX-A5200 that he is very happy with, and it's controlling a pretty serious system. As for me, I've been a Yamaha Natural Sound fan since 1974, and I'm using an RX-A2060 to control a pair of Yamaha MX-D1 power amplifiers. Yamaha rules!

  14. I'm brand new to tubes and am looking for anybodies experience with the Erhard Audio Phono and Pre? I bought a Will Vincent St-70 on here from @joessportster and am seriously enthralled by the sound and depth that comes out of the Cornwalls with that amp. Like, WOW! So, to feed the "sickness", I have now gone down the path in thinking that the Pho and Pre should be tubes as well, but I want to get some other opinion on that and opinions on Erhard if people have experience with them.? I have also looked at the Tubes4hifi Pre and Phono as well, which are similar in price, but don't have tone controls. And if I'm being COMPLETELY transparent the Tubes4hifi are not as nice on the eyes as the Erhards. I know it's about the sound........but its also a bit about the aesthetics. : ) Thanks in advance for all the help! I'm def a noob to more sophisticated audio, but have recently gotten back into music in a deep way because of the Cornwalls.

  15. Scored at Goodwill! Bought five albums including this brand new still in the shrink wrap Bay City Rollers! It'll be hard waiting until Saturday Night to play it!! 😅 Hard to beat the $1.99 per album price! I'll post pics of the rest after I clean them and as I listen to them.

  24. Good advice above. You are not losing anything sonically because of WIFI itself, but I don't know anything about Bluesound or what it's driver is doing on your laptop, or what app you are using to stream etc. Lots of things could be changing the sound between the Tidal source and your DAC, with WIFI not being one of them (unless your wifi really sucks but then as thaddeus said, it would be noticeable drop-outs). I got rid of Tidal about 18 months ago after they starting shoving MQA down everyone's throat. A flac file and an MQA file could have different sounds - even if they are from the same source. Some people like, some don't.

  25. I'm not even THINKING about new tubes until these are toast. Well, that's the plan, anyway.

  26. Lots of variables there. I would start by making sure your Tidal subscription is configured to send you the highest-quality stream possible - CD quality or better. Then, as a second test, you could eliminate the DAC as a variable. I'm not familiar with how the Node 2i works, but it looks like you can connect its digital-out to the digital-in on your Maverick DAC? This would allow you to directly compare Tidal-source+Bluesound-wifi versus CD-source+Jolida-transport. Make sure your sources are the same lineage/mastering.

  28. Got my Brand New Technics SL1200 MK7 last night. Even with my Tremor I was able to set it up quite easily no cussing or screaming involved. I was surprised by the fit and finish very nice indeed. Played 1/2 of 1 LP just to check it out sounds damn nice. Todays Project is to get it balls on level. I am getting a few select LP of my favorites for listening pleasure. If your in the market I highly recommend the 1200 MK7

  29. Here is the first set up: Older HP laptop with Tidal subscription sending wireless to a Node 2i dac/streamer. From there to a Primaluna Dialogue Premium HP. Playing CD quality Tidal offerings this set up does not sound as pleasing as an actual CD played through a Jolida JD100 tubed output CDP and an inexpensive Maverick Tube Magic DAC. Speakers and sub are the same for each set up. Thoughts?

  31. I'm powering 5 extremely power hungry Klipsch speakers now, it does fine. There are (6) 8" drivers, and (4) 7" drivers within 5 speakers, that's a lot of woofers.

  32. I was hesitant on the X1600 also. It came with a 30 day return policy, and I was already looking for it's replacement, but after hearing it for a few months now, I'm impressed. Remember....the subs have an amplifier inside their cabinets, the AVR does not power the subs.

  34. Ok, first impressions, first night, out of the box: Smoother and more detailed than the Parasound. Better-defined soundstage. I'm feeding it the preouts from my Marantz SR7013. Switching back and forth between room correction via Audyssey MultEQ XT32 and Pure Direct, I think I prefer room correction. Kind of a weird room. But I need to recalibrate soon with the 3502p in the signal path. I've got some weird bass thing going on. May need to relocate the sub. By the way, it sounds fantastic. But so did the Parasound. Bit of a buzz plugged straight into the wall, but it's inaudible while listening. I'll try it in my power conditioner tomorrow. It comes with a 60-day money back guarantee, so I'm going to see what happens. It's true about it revealing shitty recordings. Turns out some of my favorite songs are shitty recordings. But Norah Jones, Nat Cole, Sinatra, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Johnny Cash, Diana Krall, Stan Getz, all sound amazing. Too much listening with my head tonight. Too focused on form. By the way, if you've never listened to this, listen to this:

  35. I can listen to SS but just short term. I've never been able to live with a SS amp for long. Granted valve amplifiers are fraught with issues but why do they sound so f'ing good. The specs and numbers suck by comparison but they sound awesome..... PP or SET. "I have to tell you man. In listening to sound, I guess what I'm after is the closest thing that I can get to reality. Now, I know it's not going to be reality, cause the thing gotta go through wires and gotta go through filters and this and that. I understand all that. But what I really like is to get as close to the natural sound of the instruments as possible. That's why I like analog as opposed to digital. Because I don't give a shit what anybody tells you man, I know what you guys are going to tell me...'Oh yeah, but it's clean Ray!' Well it's clean but it don't got no balls!!!" - 1999 interview with Ray Charles

  38. I had a pair of large Pioneer bookshelf speakers that I basically got for free with a pair of $100 KG4s. I finally got tired of them collecting dust so I put an ad on Craigslist and listed them for $50, knowing I was going to give them away free to whomever came to get them. I didn't want to list them for free because I didn't want to be inundated with emails so I figured at $50 that would at least keep the riff-raff at bay. Got an email a day or two later from a guy and he said he'd take them. Guy showed up in an old beat up minivan, middle of winter where it had just snowed. He's in a wheelchair! Young guy, too. Probably in his early 30s. I brought the speakers out to him. You should have seen the look on his face when I told them they were his free of charge. He said he just wanted some cheap speakers because he's home a lot and wanted to be able to listen to some music. I felt great that day.

  39. You’re right, MicroMara, we got sidetracked there. There was a member who was making his own cables about a year or two ago, but I haven’t seen him on the Forum lately. I think he offered to make up cables on request. BTW, I was highly impressed with the cables you showed. They look to be premium quality, and they’re certainly of every type imaginable.

  44. That's a proverbial can of worms question. My metal horns and plastic horns have the fronts mounted to baffles and I personally don't detect any ringing from them. If the are in free air and only connected to the drivers, that is a different matter. Many like the wood horns for the aesthetic...

  46. This picture is the pdf manual of the Denon X1600H. With the light green I sketched 2 pre-outs for "external amplifier". And with the deep red I sketched 2 pre-outs for 2 active subwoofers. Doesn't that mean that I can connect extra amplifiers in the future if needed and two subwoofers? I'm going insane here haha
