  2. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night of enjoying (your Klipsch speakers and) your cheery company! Long may we roam (to get a pair of bargain priced speakers). Much may we smile, as we think of the better year to come (and the likely upgrades to our system). Merry Christmas from Vancouver Island, to all the great friends who I spend so much time with!

  4. Merry Christmas everyone. We received just enough snow overnight to satisfy Bing Crosby, but not enough to fire up the snowblower.

  10. Wife bought me 8 Cryo treated KT - 150s to roll into my Primaluna EVO 400 integrated amp. Besides changing out my two center preamp tubes to Brimars I had never tubed rolled before and now I am going to try the KT - 150s to replace my EL - 34s that came with the PL - hoping I like the experiment.

  16. Back then, double records were cut with changers in mind. My copy of Electric Ladyland is cut as follows: Side A is backed with Side D, and Side B is backed with Side C. That way you can stack the two LPs on the changer and A will be followed by B. Then, you get up and flip the stack, so Side C will play, then the other disc drops, and now you listen to Side D. One time, I was at a party, and when I picked up the host's copy of the album, I saw that the Side A LP was backed with Side B! And C was backed with D! Wow! It felt like a glitch in my reality, like in The Matrix. I later figured out that it must be a later pressing, now that changers were not as popular as they had been in the Sixties, when that record came out. It did give me a moment of weirdness, when things were already a bit weird...

  17. Gave away alla da pies I made yesterday. "Due to the Pandemic" more neighbors at home. So I had to knock out five more real quick to restock the house, for the kids to share with their SO's. This years production was about 45 pies, between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Not as low as 2018, the year of the great gourd shortage, but next year should be better. NOTE: I still have enough punkin for 7 more pies, but this is the strategic reserves.

  18. Hi All - Pretty new to this Forum; even so, I have already gotten some great help and advice from the members here. I thought there might be some interest in following my journey to refurbish a pair of 1971 Klipsch Cornwalls that I happened to luck into over the summer of 2020. By sheer luck, I came across an ad for these listed for just $50. The seller was located about 2 hours drive (one way) from my job. And, that day I happened to take my convertible to work instead of my Suburban - I mean, who wouldn't want to drive a drop top on a warm, dry, sunny Utah day? So here's the backstory: I texted the seller immediately and was surprised that I was just the third person to respond (although the ad had only been posted about 10 minutes at that time). I told him I would definitely take them, and offered to pay immediately via Venmo or Paypal. The seller said he was OK waiting for me to show up to collect payment. He explained that when he mentioned to the first 2 prospective buyers where he was located, they both backed out. I knew that if I wanted these I had to go there ASAP; no time to drive back home first and get the truck. I explained that I was 2 hours away and was DEFINITELY coming .I verified his exact address with GPS and saw it would take 1 hour and 58 minutes to get to him. Would he be OK holding them for 2 hours and 15 minutes. I would have been devastated (and a bit pissed off) had I driven that far only to find that they were gone. The seller said "no problem - but at 2 hours 16 minutes I move on to the next guy". Deal! Imagine his surprise when I showed up on time... but in a convertible. With a good bit of luck, we managed to load them up. And, by the time I got to his location, he had gotten close to 50 other calls / texts from interested buyers. To his credit, he kept his word and didn't sell them out from under me. He did mention that he even got a few offers significantly over his $50 asking price, but declined them, telling them that they were already sold. So, I will end this first installment with a couple of photos. I knew even while I was driving there, that if I was successful, this was going to sound like a BS story. So, I made sure to take a screenshot (a few actually) of the original ad showing the price. And a few of the Cornwalls loaded up in my 2003 BMW 330cic. I've attached one of each to this post. P.S. - BTW, the seller was the original owner and yes, he knew what he had. He just figured that in this day and age of Bluetooth, Alexa, and Beats headphones that no one would want such large speakers anymore. If you look at the ad he even mentions taking them to the landfill if he gets no interest(!) Boy, was he wrong...

  21. My next-door neighbor has been out of steady work for six months, so I'm cooking for two other broke tenants and him and his two sons...two corned beef briskets with cabbage, a spiral-cut ham, brown rice, Brussel sprouts, Hawaiian rolls with Amish butter, and store-bought cupcakes. I'm already into my ration of Fosters. Merry Christmas!!! SSH

  25. Not trying to beat a dead horse, but I think the most important point is not which generation of Speakerlab K's these are. The most important point is that these were not built by Klipsch and they are NOT Klipschorns. Many of these Speakerlab K's were built with knock-down kits made of particleboard. Those kits were built with widely varying degrees of competence by audio hobbyists, but none will ever be built with the precision or structural integrity of a real Klipschorn, even the Speakerlab K's that were assembled by the Speakerlab factory. Because Speakerlab was a Seattle company, we see many of these in the Pacific Northwest, and about half the time the sellers advertise them as Klipschorns and THAT pisses me off!

  27. Why not? In my stoner days, it was absolutely necessary, not only to avoid issues of dexterity, but to avoid having to think about what to play next. Load up 6 on the old Gerrard, hit the chair and not get up till they all played, then flip the stack.šŸ‘

  31. With the 1980 Heresys I just purchased that had never been opened, swapping the crossovers with the ones I had replaced the capacitors in made a significant difference. Everything sounded clearer and more dynamic all around. Some use the analogy that it's like you removed a blanket that had been covering the speaker. I would agree with that. To me it's definitely worth it. The easiest route is to send your networks to Bob Crites and he'll rebuild them for you. Or, you can order his rebuild kit. Or, you can choose other capacitor options since Bob only works with Sonicaps. Other capacitor brands that have been recommended are Jantzen Z Superior, Audiocap Theta and Arizona Blue Cactus.

  32. You're correct, I overstated my point. I retract "none will ever" and will leave up my original post so I remain responsible for putting that statement out there. My apologies. It is possible for a talented, dedicated woodworker to build a Klipschorn with the same or better precision as someone who has experience building many of them over a period of years at the Klipsch factory. I do think that is unlikely, but it could happen. You are correct. As I said above, I overstated my point. My apologies. Even though you have a beautifully-built pair of factory Speakerlab-K's, I would still have reservations about encouraging others to try and find a pair like yours. My biggest gripe is with the seller who advertises Speakerlab K's as Klipschorns and says the labels fell off.

  38. @wuzzzer, if I was redoing mine, I have 1980s and 1984s, which Iā€™m not because I already updated them, I would go with @Deang suggestions. They might be available from Parts Connexion, not on sale and you have to check Before you buy for actual stock levels, sometimes letā€™s say their inventory on hand is optimistic. Taps, cables may be soldered so you will need to remove and either solder to new point or put on crimped or soldered quick connects to facilitate easy changes in future. Not hard if you are ok with soldering. Not to add to your choices, but I have liked Jantzen Z-Silver caps in my Heresy if other options donā€™t pan out. Parts Express for those.

  39. That guy is a real musician! The only other time I heard a carnyx on YouTube, it didnā€™t sound musical, it gave out the kind of battlefield blare that would have scared the Romans out of their sandals, if a dozen or a hundred carnyxes were being blown at the same time. The world was relatively quiet then, with probably the loudest sounds being shouting men. The carnyx is loud and creepy at the same time (not in the video above, clearly), so it would have had a possibly demoralizing effect on the people being confronted by a large force of bloodthirsty Celts.

  40. ^^^^^ šŸ‘ Carl, @CECAA850, thatā€™s a reasonable question. I hope the answer is yes. My brother in law is an extremely talented professional photographer, but handy he ainā€™t. While trying to connect a phone to a land line, he called several times for advice. Each time I reminded him there are two wires, they can be connected either way.
