  1. Figure its time to start a thread on my latest project, as of yesterday finally got both speakers together and they have blown my mind! What I have done is collected all of the parts that make up a stock set of KPT-335 from the original woofers, mid drivers, tweeters and crossovers everything minus the big awkward cabinets. Seeing how the KPT-335 uses the k-48 woofer (same as the Chorus models) I decided to build a custom set of cabinets to house all of the parts in roughly the same size cabinets as a pair of Choruses.

  2. Even thought I have had 4: LAB12 drivers sitting here waiting for me to build a quad of the LAB12 TH that Claude has recommended, I picked up this guy. 24in Tuba HT... The seller pulled the driver for another subwoofer project, so I ordered a RSS390HF-4 to plug into this beast. I will be interested to compare it to my F-20 that sits in the back corner of this room, with the same RSS390HF-4 driver.

  3. Steely Dan, Gaucho. On our simple, cheap Sony PS-T22, Audio Technica 3600 cart —-> Luxman R-117 —-> Cambridge Audio Aero 2 bookshelf speakers, dual Velodyne DD10. Nice sound, thank you Steely Dan.

  4. We lived with 2 channel TV for years, in two houses, and it was fine, BUT with Cornwalls that far apart, with the couch that close (as it should be, for a big picture), the people (except the one dead center) might not have dialog centered. If you do this, can a center speaker be placed above the TV (or below?). Hopefully, it won't have a stray magnetic field distorting the picture. Maybe that is a thing of the past (?). There would probably be a center channel amp in your son's AVR. It would also allow Klipsch "Wide Stage Stereo" for his MUSIC. Since he is now a home owner, not an apartment dweller, he could really rock out (or toccata and fugue out, as the case may be). To become the President of the "man club," if and when finances permit, he could get a third Cornwall, with an acoustically transparent screen that comes down in front of it, and a projector on the rear wall. Like many members of the forum, I enjoy spending other people's money. Either way, without a subwoofer, be sure the the AVR's subwoofer output is set for OFF, or NO, and that the front speakers outputs are set for LARGE, or the bass may not be sent to the Front Left and Front Right Cornwalls, as well as a center, if any.

  5. Love it! We used to call it stereo TV. I know several people who are moving back to a straight up two channel system for music/TV movies and ditching the 5,7, 11, 224.12 systems. I do like having a centre but could live without it. What I would consider the perfect solution would be the rise of three channel "stereo" amps.

  6. I would suggest based on what I’ve read so far that you verify that the (4) woofers in the LF giving issues are wired properly and all working in polarity. I suggest you remove the amplifier speaker wire and then using a 1.5v to 9v battery to apply voltage to the speaker input terminals verify that all (4) woofers are moving in the same direction. (Battery +) to (Speaker +) and (Battery -) to (Speaker -) should move all the cones outward and if not then check all wiring for proper polarity connection to the drivers. I also suggest if you have a meter that you read the resistance at the speakers input terminal and verify it reads the same as the speaker that sounds like it is operating correctly. If for any reason the drivers aren’t wired correctly in series/parallel you will see that in the meter reading and again warrants checking the wiring for proper series/parallel connections for the system. miketn

  7. Mornin' John... this is why I hire that stuff out now... I can get my monies worth just watchin' 'em work. Having coffee in the doghouse.. Got MitchRyder and the Detroit Wheels going...Too bad it's still dark [and cold].... I'm wound up enough to do something. A little walk at the lake is on the agenda. Sunny, calm and average temp predicted. that would be 70`. I can stand that, if I'm in the sun. Won't be trying to negotiate the hill I tumbled down. Shoulda listened to my gut. Didn't get a 2nd chance to reconsider. First step, I went down. See, I do learn... just a little slow.

  9. Mornin' Strangers, my brilliant idea to procrastinate with painting has had it's repercussions. First after twenty years without barely picking up a brush at all... and a slight case of vertigo when I did get up on the ladder I couldn't cut a straight edge to save my life. It's true after tightly caulking the corner of the walls and ceiling in there that there aren't any 'straight" edges left but darn, I had to do it over. Twelve and eighteen year old latex that once smelled fresh when used is stinky now! Opening the windows with 99% humidity and 40s to 50s temps for that kilz last week, I had to get back on a decongestant which messes with me. Made first coffee at 4:30 today. It's odd to me but the NWS you know the "official" weather entity called for sleet & snow here this weekend. Yea... Right. Dark Sky on my phone got it right though Heavy Rain! beeped at me yesterday morning! Stinks I won't be able to get it on android anymore after the end of the year. Dark Sky is right more often than all the other forecasters put together!

  10. @AndreG. I bought my special edition essential III new for a very low price (180 euro), and for that price it is a fine sounding turntable. I have been using it quite intensively for two years now, and in my opinion, it does have some shortcomings: I miss the auto return function (when the end of side A is reached, it continues to turn until I manually bring back the arm and turn it off) A while ago, the volume in the right channel would drop, or be silent completely. I first thought it was a problem with the amplifer, but then I opened the connection box on the underside of the turntable (where the audio out is). It was very flimsily built so I poked my finger against the thin cables a couple of times (... I'm technically challenged...) and closed it again. The problem was solved just by doing that. I wish the feet could be adjusted I wish the tone arm was not plastic, but carbon I considered upgrading the Ortofon OM10 to the OM20, but haven't done that. They can still be found, but the Ortofon OM series of needles is obsolete, I found out. If I take all the above into account, I think that that other Pro-Ject turntable, the Debut Carbon, would be a better investment: https://www.project-audio.com/en/category/turntables/debut-line/

  13. I got to listen to my Jubs today. Nowhere near set up. Optical from TV / Spotify into the Parasound pre, Xilica and 2 Parasound amps. Temporary setup awaiting other things but I am greatly impressed. I was expecting a loss of bass due to room (closed on left and open on right) but I can hear and feel this. Noise deadening shades for the 9 windows come Tuesday. In the end this might be good.

  16. Long story short I recently moved in with my girlfriend and am thinking of downsizing. The place we got can't accomodate all the audio equipment I have. I am in the CT area I have a pair of Klipsch Jubilee's purchased from Cory Harrison mint condition with Xillica XP 2040 As well as Klipschorn 70th anniversary speakers. Those I actually have barely used. Bought them and didn't really like the way they sounded in my listening room so bought the Jubilees. The problem with the Khorns is the serial numbers don't match. The store I bought them from got confused and sent the wrong pair but they are only off by 1 number. I also have JTR orbital Shifters x2 and Emotiva XPA-7 amp and XMC-1 processor Prices are Jubilees 5k Khorns 8k JTR 2k each Emotiva XMC-1 $800 Emotiva XPA-7 Gen 3 1k Shipping on speakers would not be available buyer would need to be able to transport them but i will help move them out of the house. Pictures upon request.

  17. I’m posting this in the Two-Channel forum, because I’m guessing this is where people with two-channel home theaters hang out. I’m recommending a Two Channel Home Theater Solution to my son. My son is returning stateside after the last 9 years away (He’s in the Air Force). He’s now stationed at Barksdale, AFB, bought a house and has asked for advice for his movie/music room. It looks like this: I just can’t see a way to get outstanding surround sound due to obstacles in the room locating them. We discussed a few compromise solutions. We were discussing a total Klipsch Reference Premiere system. But finally, I just said, screw all this. Just get yourself a pair of Cornwall IV’s and be done with it. Nothing else I can think would be better, especially for music, and movies will still be better than anything you've ever had. (I should note that Klipsch (especially Heritage) series has a significant gravitas factor in our extended family. So getting anything else would be like showing up at the reunion in a Toyota Prius, when everyone else in the family drives American muscle cars. When I told him his uncle Jeff had Cornwalls and La Scalas, and Uncle Donny has La Scalas, he was sold. He did not want to be excluded from the man-club, haha.) I myself have a full blown 5.1.4 Klipsch Palladium system, but Klipsch doesn’t make that anymore. So he is going to go with a pair of new Cornwall’s in American Walnut. I think a pair of Cornwall’s would be better than anything else I can think of for this room. But am I giving the right advice? What do you two-channel movie/music aficionados think? RGDawson

  18. Been there, done with that. Perhaps it is mantra but some folks seem to have ‘bad’ tube luck. Anyway I went with high end solid state. I use an Accuphase E530 integrated amp. Never looked back. The unit has required 1 service in 12 years of pretty much daily usage.

  19. First of all I need to reach out and show my gratitude to @Chris A @Chief bonehead @Dave A @richieb@mikebse2a3@babadono for helping me step through this. It turns out that there was a polarity mismatch. Two of the four woofers were pushing and the other two were sucking. 60 seconds with a screwdriver fixed the problem. Now I have LF response again. lol Next question which I will save for another thread is GAIN.

  24. @dirtmudd thanks for the note, I had read that review and the vinyl engine and a phono cartridge review before buying. The fellow I bought from works on TT to help support his young family and did a great job, it is in very good condition. Steely Dan Gaucho was in the used LP section of local store. Not perfect but the LP s in great shape, with a serious couple of cleanings. That is one amazing sounding record. Also got used copy of Paul Simon Graceland.

  26. OK, as the Dude would say, new Schiit has come to light. Here is a pic of the subwoofer (RS 120 SW) right next to the right tower speaker. I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but clearly, the same thing is happening in this cone. It may be a bit less severe, and it is also the speaker furthest from the wood stove. The sub was shipped from Bestbuy, but I don't think it was from the same location in Manchester, NH. Also, the sub was ordered probably a month earlier, at least 2 weeks. Which leads me to believe even more strongly that this must just be dust getting in and then accumulating in this way due to the magnet and speaker vibration. When I cleaned the dust off before, it does not look to me like the cleaned area is discolored in any way to suggest a deterioration in some kind of finish. Again, I've got the air filter set up and will continue to monitor. In the meantime, the plan will be to very lightly dust off with a dry, soft cloth if need be. I'm not going to try alcohol or water when it seems to clean up fine without either of those.

  27. I think you hit a Bullzeye - Specs compliance is definitely the 1st requirement , Klipsch OEM capacitors from JEM are compliant to Klipsch networks specs whereas a Capacitor from PE-Dayton-Sonicraft -Solen are not , but if they were , klipsch would be using them , hands down - -Finally ,price , the Capacitors from Klipsch sold by JEM are priced like Sonicaps and the price requirement is also met -

Kind of funny how you never hear about all of the Congress people who liquidated stocks days prior to announcement of shutdowns last spring or member's of Congress investing heavily in Tesla days before the Whitehouse announces a complete switch to electric vehicles, seems like that is breaking some sort of law??

  30. Getting some more time with/on these RP600s.... they are damn nice little speakers. Not LaScalas.... but nice little speakers. They work quite well in this 12 X 12 room. No regrets. A sub would be nice, just to fill in the audio spectrum, but, not really needed

  31. Klipsch spec caps is a kinda vague comment. A capacitor is a simple device most all manufacturers have outstanding specifications on the capacitors used in crossover networks. You do not need a military grade capacitor in a crossover network. Electrical engineers do not go crazy on picking parts. There as so many manufactures of quality capacitors that making selection of a capacitor childs play. Anyone that can read a specification sheet on capacitors will find this true. I suspect the main Klipsch spec is like all manufacturers of electronic products boils down to price. For those that do not have or have very little knowledge of electronics buying from a Klipsch's authorized dealer is the way to go. That way you will know and your mind be satisfied you have what Klipsch recommends. For all others the field for picking a cap is big and wide being so many good manufacture's out there. Being a lurker on this forum I have seen the subject of capacitors being one of the most controversial subjects with some of the most heated arguments. I rather stay out of heated arguments especially when it comes down to such a simple subject of a film capacitor. Electrical engineers do not get caught up in any specific brand of any component. They just read the spec sheets, do some testing and use what is available at the best price. This is probably the reason the engineers at Klipsch pick a polyester capacitor (trade name 'Myler') for their networks. Most on this forum consider polypropylene to be a better cap, not necessarily so. When the specs of a polyester cap is good enough and the price is much cheaper electrical engineers choose that part saving their employer money making everyone happy including the consumer.

  36. Come to find out, my uncle had a brand “new” Sunfire TGR-3 sitting in box that he got a killer deal on almost a decade ago. I asked if he could bring it over and break it in on my CFs, because damn if that thing doesn’t have some power for an AVR. All I can say is wow. Incredible sound, worlds of difference compared to my dinky Denon, obviously. I’m on the hunt to locate my next deal on a better AVR for my planned 7.2 now. Missed out on a Marantz SR7012 yesterday. Bidding ended at $730, a damn steal for a $2,200 unit a few years old. Anyway, the search continues. The Sunfire used tonight in case anyone’s curious: https://www.soundandvision.com/content/sunfire-theater-grand-receiver-3-page-3

  41. I have Dennis' notes on the build, and J. Easley's pdf of drawings/measurements (submitted by multiple folks). The FH-1 cabinet measures close to the same as the LS. It would be easier to build. Since you couldn't really call them Klipsch (no matter how close to klipsch measuements you make them), I would build the FH-1 cabs.

With the steak above I would sear it at medium high heat 3 minutes , flip and sear 2 minutes . Then stick it ; not in the cast iron skillet , in a 350f oven for 5 minutes . Pull out and rest for 5 minutes and enjoy . Getting the rest of the meal to come together at the same time is a different story . Baby steps

  43. neither. I'm just the world's worst cook and with this pandemic, I've been staying home. Most fire departments pay me to NOT cook. Paradoxically, I watch a lot of cooking shows on television and I think when this whole pandemic is over and I'm comfortable out doing my own shopping that I'll give cooking a whirl. Plus, I've got a serious OCD problem and raw meat freaks me out big time ... not beef; but I can't handle raw chicken or pork. it's tough being me sometimes.
