  1. So, I'm sitting here sipping on a glass of Colonel E. H. Taylor bourbon ... a gift from forum friend @jimjimbo-- thank you Jim. this never would have happened if not for this forum. Sometimes this place seems like it's in turmoil; but let's take the advice from that Styx song ... "We'll take the best, forget the rest." Life is too short to spend in conflict. I like to live by that verse in the Bible that says "as much as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone." Being cool to others is something in my control. So, here's to being cool to people.

  3. had this photo on my phone. I took it pre-pandemic when I was visiting my cousin, it is a poster that she has hanging in one of the rooms of her house. Her folks took me in when I was kid after my Mom was killed and my Dad passed away. She was a hippie from the Oakland/San Francisco Bay Area back in the Summer of Love days. I was only eight years old at the time; but she had a boyfriend that bought me a Monkees album. Hippies were cool in many ways. Peace all.

  4. It's a related MEH, but not based on a K-402 horn. It will be just a little smaller but still with [at least a] 90 x 60 degree coverage--much like the K-402. The plywood buy will wait until I get inoculated for SARS II so I can pick it out locally. My first shot is estimated to be scheduled in 2-3 weeks (but I'll believe it when it occurs). I'm certainly looking forward to it. I don't want to reveal what it is until I'm assured that it will work as planned via tests and listening. There are also a couple of design twists that can be used with it. Automatic time alignment is one of the givens in any proper MEH design. I think that you'll like it. It may be surprising to you... 5. The "eyes" on the labels are actually microphones, but it looks kind of like an eye, hence the nickname. "Six-Eye" just has more of a ring to it than "Six-Mic" I guess. Eventually, CBS actually started using an eye as its logo instead for broadcasting - but the origin was still the rather abstract microphone logo. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/what-is-the-difference-in-a-2-eye-and-6-eye-record

  6. My 2 cents. Got to be honest, the Jubilees do not look good. Look at the speakers above, they look nice (the ones that I am familiar with). For $35K you want something that will look nice in your expensive home (assumed). There is an old picture of PWK with a Jubilee that looked very nice. The top section needs to be in a separate and fancy enclosure and be at least a little smaller than the bass section, and smoothed out / rounded around the back with a nice veneer. The bottom can be have a separate skin and be rounded / smoothed out. They need to look good from every angle, including the back. Look at Volti's designs and what he did with the old heritage design. Flame away that looks don't matter but for $35K, they do.

  7. You mean...for the past 15 years or so? It's likely because decisions at higher management levels (well above Roy's engineering level, I would assume) deemed the design as "not worth the effort for home hi-fi" after PWK passed (RIP). I don't know how many were sold in the cinema marketplace, but I assume it wasn't their best seller of their existing product lines before January 2020. Roy's continuing efforts probably was a big reason why the Jubilee was kept afloat--before now. We know these loudspeakers as the best deal in high-end home hi-fi sound, but that is about to change forever, it seems. If you want to own a Jubilee--now is the time to buy before the existing stock is depleted. I wouldn't wait on a used model to come up, because I assume that the used prices will begin to creep upwards over time. Take out of loan and buy them now. I will go out on the limb and predict that you will not regret your decision to do so (unless excellent hi-fi sound isn't terribly high on your list of needs, and smaller, prettier loudspeakers are "good enough"). I do lament the passing of excellent hi-fi sound for reasonable prices, and that Klipsch's parent company is taking the company in the direction as an "audiophile company" in terms of pricing. I will never like or defend that, but with the overhead rates set as they probably are to pay indirect salaries, I suppose that is what has to happen. Chris

I feel like they filmed me and my friends without us knowing it. had to laugh when Stacy keach, the cop, busts up a party. he sees a plate of spilt Ajax cleaner and thinks it's coke. Although I'm technically challenged, I understood enough of it to cherish even more my 1972 Heresy speakers (8 ohm) and my 12 Watt Leben CS300. This is the first time I watched a John DeVore video and I think he is a great guy, and he surely chooses the same side as the Klipsch speaker design!

Returned to Del Taco once because they put extra stuff in the bag that I didn't order and didn't charge me for. the manager told me to just keep everything with no extra charge. my conscience is worth more than a few bucks.

  18. Bourbon is a nice gift and receiving it from a friend, well even better. I tell you something that is nice: when I flip on the 845 output tubes on my tube amplifiers they make a echoing sound that sounds just like the sound you heard from the sonar on the submarine on the old tv show Seahunt. I know a vacuum tube is not a person but it is still nice. 😉

  21. A couple of things regarding this mess. First of all the Robin Hood/Wall Street Bets crowd identified an arbitrage opportunity by recognizing that several hedge funds were short a total of 140% of the total outstanding float of shares of GameStop. So they banded together and started running up the share price on this stock, which as it soared in value forced the hedge funds to either cover their shorts at huge losses or borrow the shares for delivery at high rates in the stock loan market. In this instance, thousands of small investors caught the big boys with their pants down and crushed them, nothing wrong with that. This works well if anyone holds their position but you cannot blame someone for taking extraordinary profits in the trade. So once the crack in the dyke started it became a flood of selling. I would imagine hedge funds were among the biggest sellers at the highs, (hey if you are going top lose your job you might as well double down.)Trapping some of the longs at ridiculous prices and wiping them out as they ran for the exit. Saw an interview with an analyst who has covered GME for 16 years. He had the most optimistic earnings call on the stock at something like 95 cents per share, which would mean the stock should be trading at $20 per share. The average earnings call from his fellow analysts was something like a loss of 19 cents a share. To justify some of the lofty prices at which GME traded would mean they would have to earn over $20 per share this year. Not gonna happen. I will not shed any tears about hedge funds getting their lunch money stolen, they have been screwing over the general public for years, ever hear of “Frontrunning orders”? Heck Robin Hood MAKES their money by selling their stock orders to the big boys who then execute those orders in the most advantageous manner to benefit THEMSELVES, not the retail customer. If you think you are getting best order execution on your minuscule stock trades, dream on McDuff. Anyway, perhaps the SEC will limit shorting of shares to 100% of the float of any one company, might be a prudent move. But if you think that the small investor would win more than one round against the titans of Wall Street, you are delusional. The High Frequency traders are in and out of the trade before your buy order hits the tape, They have computing power and telecommunications supremacy that allows them to execute orders in milliseconds on exchanges all over the world. Even the biggest get a bloody nose once in awhile a some even get wiped out, remember Long Term Capital? Damn near took down the whole system. Some folks made a great deal of money in this trade, good for them. When all is said and done most of the buyers of these shorted stocks will have lost their investment. I can only hope they only bet what they could afford to lose, somehow I doubt it.

  23. Somehow that's not terribly comforting. If the present Jubilee models go out of production, I believe that will it be a real loss...but it's Klipsch's show, not mine. Unfortunately, the typical thinking at companies is that the prior product "has to go away" so as not to "dilute" the newer products (by the marketing people and upper management). Our thoughts don't really matter, unfortunately. It's okay with me, since it doesn't affect me and my own enjoyment (>13 years) and probably increases the value of my own Jubilees over time. But it basically shuts down a new generation of potential owners, who have less disposable income than I do/did throughout my life. Over $50K (USD) for three Jubilees across the front (multichannel setup) is a real show stopper for everyone I know or have known. Chris

  24. Does anybody know what is meant by "MONO' and '360 Sound' on this Bob Dylan album? Wikipedia only confuses me even more: "The term "Stereo 360 Sound" was originally used in the labelling of "LP" records released by Columbia Records in the early thru mid 1960s...As mono and stereo LPs were released during this time, the "Stereo 360 Sound" logo was situated in a rectangular box with two arrows pointing in opposite directions which appeared on the top of the LP cover (only on stereo releases) adjacent to the "walking eye" logo. This practice ended roughly in 1968 when compatible stereo albums were released, thus mono LPs were phased out of production." So they used the '360 Sound' slogan both for mono and stereo albums? Why speak of the 'walking eye' logo? To me, the logo represents speakers on stands with sound waves visualised. Another rather bizarre claim is 'Nonbreakable'. What's going on here?

  25. Yes Steve, I agree about being nice, or even a decent person. It's so easy. I was at Home Depot a few weeks ago. An older lady was carting a window across the parking lot to her car. I watched 3 people walk right pass her, and nobody offered to help this 80 year old lady load a 60 lb window! I ran over, loaded it in her back seat, no big deal. She reached into her purse and pulled out a couple dollars and tried to give it to me. I said there's no need for that. She said "I can't believe you helped me". I said I can't believe those 3 people didn't offer to help. She then said "I'm sure you're parents are proud of you". I said I hope so, and told her if I didn't have 10 seconds to help another person then I know they would be disappointed in me. Since we are on this subject. I do have an observation....I'm getting tired of all the publicity, congratulations, and hero worship status some people are putting onto others. A video yesterday on FB did it for me. A delivery man untangled an American flag on someone's porch, took 3 seconds. The FB post made it sound like this guy saved a kid from a burning house! They went on about how the world would be a better place if everyone was like this guy. It's a shame we feel like we need to go overboard with these little gestures that require us to put someone on hero status.

  32. It's good that you're not quick on the draw when it comes to dropping the hammer on members. Patience doesn't come naturally to me and back in the days when I worked and had some authority, keeping my personal opinions of people in check was even more important than ever. Had a boss that told me, when I had to counsel a problem employee, to remind the guy that it was his behavior we didn't like, it wasn't him as a person. Plus, I prefer to let a person know how they can make it right as forever holding something over someone's head is not a good way to lead (or live if you're the person that has done wrong). Forgiveness is powerful for both the victim and the guilty. I can think of only one forum member that I would definitely have banned and that was only because what he did was far more than just express an opinion -- he spoke of violence, my toleration for violence is nearly non-existent. Some frustrate me by their rudeness; but I think we should ALWAYS prefer reconciliation. Banning someone, sending them into forum purgatory, ignoring them ... none of that serves any good purpose, it just gets them out of our faces and as much political talk that has went on here, nobody is that far gone. If someone needs corrective action, fine -- but, that corrective action should be to "correct" not for revenge or so open-ended that the violator feels that they're never welcome back. It's like when I'd do something wrong as a kid and be given some punishment that had no ending in sight ... sure, the parental units relented eventually; but the initial threats of a forever punishment were far worse than the offense called for. Emotions are a tricky thing and can easily get the better of us if we let it. Sometimes people need to be suspended from participation; but if I was running the show, they'd know specifically why and for how long. Personally, I've never been banned, moderated posts, or gotten warning points so I have no personal experience to know how you administer those punishments. Hopefully, no moderator takes the stance that they'll allow someone to return when/if they feel like it. I'm not much younger than you and I don't want to deal with controversy in my life either. I just try to treat people fairly and with respect ... whether they deserve it or not. Trust me, I've had to have some conversations where I really didn't feel in my heart the words that were coming out of my mouth; but I knew what the right thing to do was and had an obligation to that and not what would have brought me personal satisfaction. Like that saying about bitterness ... it's like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Most react in the positive -- some don't; but at least I can lay my head on my pillow at night with a clean conscience that I've dealt with my fellow man as fairly as possible. I'm spending my fourth quarter of life forgiving others and being grateful that I've been forgiven. it just works better that way. Now that this novel is complete ... watch for it at a theatre by you. But don't go see it because there's a rather nasty virus still out there.

  33. I'm about ready for a full-time stick. The arthritis in my hip is getting pretty bad. 10 years ago, it was moderate according to the surgeon I consulted with. He said he'd do a hip replacement when I told him that the pain was enough to take the fun out of life. had a telephone appointment with the Doc this morning, she wanted to follow up on our last phone appointment. went over the usual stuff that doctor's ask. She did make me take my blood pressure (I have a device to do that) and shockingly it was 152/91 and I took it three times! I told her that she was just making me nervous. Took it about an hour later and it was back to normal 112/71. Went over the usual ... how's the breathing? how is the neck pain? I have four herniated disks and arthritis in my neck and hip -- so the pain is a daily thing. I like to say on the particularly painful days (like today) that I'm earning my disability. I did ask where I stood on the covid vaccine ranking ... she said my breathing issues make a higher priority. Right now though they're only vaccinating age 65 or older with medical conditions. She did say that they're ramping up quite aggressively now and that my turn is weeks away not months away.

  34. Kinda just hanging while listening and not posting too much. Cranked out some Queen the other day, which worked to sooth the beast. Then last night my buddy decided to stop so had to step my game up just a bit. Love sitting back and watching his nonchalant reactions. First the foot starts tappin then his head and neck start to twitch, finally it's the death quiver! THEN he pops the question! Who was that? hahahahaha Hit him HARD w/the first lp. hahaha Lil John Mayall and his "No Turning Back" is just like most. First side slow and easy and side 2 reels 'em in. Kinda like fishin. They ALWAYS or most times swallow the hook. From 69 after the break up of the Bluesbreakers in 68. Do some research and see if ya know anyone other than EC who was in the Bluesbreakers. Talk about a line-up? This is from Bill Graham's Fillmore East and Mayall decided to drop the heavy guitar AND drums. Funny he was gettin his jam on midway thru side 2 before he realized there were no drums in the LP. hahahaha GOTCHA! Fantastic lp if you can find it. Next up a lil EC just for giggles and to let him listen and slow his heart rate down while he caught his breath! lolol Then right back up there while I kinda smirked inside! Finished him off with this one! He had to ask who it was Ahhhhhgain! lol He's a great guy and a good friend. He does a nice job on his guitar w/the guys on jam night. I just love workin on him though. Loves to play his head bangin rock loud n proud ALL the time. A real Jeff Healey kinda guy. On the stage lookin at the crowd thru a chicken wire screen while he plays.

  35. @Full Range my music library is vast ... many types of music. A couple of decades ago, Rick Wakeman was playing at a church down the road from my house. I took my entire family. My kids were young still and they were totally bored . "songs have to have lyrics" they'd say. I tease my kids to this day about that event. they tell me now "we were kids then, we'd enjoy it a lot more now I'm sure." Rick Wakeman is one of those artists that hold a special place in my heart. I remember being a kid and tagging along with my older brother and his friend as they went to the drive in theatre. On the way there they were listening to Yes, Close to the Edge on the eight track player. I knew that I loved what I heard and had to listen to everything that band put out. So, years later, meeting Rick and later communicating via email remains a great thrill to me. Who'd have thunk that a teenager tagging along with his big brother would end up creating such a powerful musical memory for me? Heck, I even took a photo with YES a few years ago (sadly Rick wasn't playing with the band at the time ... but that evening I did manage to get Steve Howe to talk very briefly and Chris Squire passed away shortly after this photo but he heard me talk about his bass guitar and asked me "what were saying about my bass?" I told him that it was one of the most beautiful instruments that I've ever seen ... and it was ... a stunning early 70s Rickenbacker 4001. He chuckled and said, "oh, it practically plays itself."

  38. I don't like to use the term High End Audio, so lets say quality Audio that is measurable. As you increase price your potential customer base drops off rapidly in consumer electronics, same is true in industrial electronics, so price matters on the supply demand curves. Consumer electronics are also highly elastic with lots of substitutes, as many failed companies have learned. SONY the dominating Tube TV company was completely vaporized by Plasma and LCD, it happened in 2 years. For me the K-Horns are less desirable than the LaScalas because of placement, height of the mid horn when sitting and worse driver alignment the Jube solution for alignment is a DSP, introducing quantization error, as opposed to a 7ft long mid horn and passive 2 way crossover. Engineering trade offs The Jube is more of a LaScala 2 IMHO, no corner required....

  45. What are the specs on the speakers ? Klipsch Heritage Line, which is most of the posters on here, are highly efficient LaScala 1/100 watt is loud normal listening 1/2 watt is screaming 2 watts is unbearable I'm listening at less than 1/200 watt and it's plenty loud 20 watt amp is a lot of power for the Heritage line Less efficient speakers may need 30 watts just to start making a little noise 200 watts may be needed to produce loud volume with direct radiators vs horn loaded
