  8. I actually joked with my wife about that. She was actually going, “Nuuuuuu!” as I was stripping it. She dug how it sounded too, lol. It’s an interesting notion even if I had the space to do that (I really don’t). So the unported KV4 does the center duty for now. Key differences really are just the aforementioned different model-numbered woofers and different enclosures. All other things basically being equal.

  9. Do have this one but don't ask me to prove it with a picture right now. It's very deep in the 3D puzzle that is my storage bin. Another @MicroMara name-drop!

  11. Curious. KV4 having a 2” tweeter is the biggest differentiator I believe. As I’m finding out, KV4 and CF2 have quite a few things in common. Same horn, seemingly identical K-64-KN drivers (with my example, the back metal are different colors and one has a screen, another doesn’t), and the XOs are the same save for one cap’s size and color on the board varying by years ‘95 and ‘96 (KV4’s board is marked Epic CF2). I’m going to update another epic driver thread with this info for more context, and hope it creates more answers than questions.

  16. When I said laughing at people in the South, it was really about building codes and people are not use to it, we do not build for much cold, mostly rain and high winds. Here you pour a slab for a house on the ground, the ground does not freeze. In Indy you need to dig a deep hole 4'-6' (cant remember exactly) and fill with different size gravel to deal with frozen ground. And that's just 700 miles North. True, could be problems with wind when not built for it. I pick an occasional hurricane over ice and snow for months every year and a very short growing season. I don't think there is anyplace that has no weather/seismic problems so we pick which one to deal with.

  17. Wait that's not MY gear. I picked that post up from @MicroMara so it's HIS gear! As you know I've been wondering where he is and I saw that post in another thread. I'm thinking maybe he's playing with it and dialing it in some more. Don't know but nope not mine. Sorry about the confusion! Now where the heck is he??? 😂

  18. I bought this AMP off of Chris Keller here in North Carolina it is a PP el-84 making approx 17 wpc. It is dead quiet on my 100DB Open Baffle Full Range speakers. I pasted Chris'es description below. The amp sounds great. Everyone here knows me by now and knows I am in a constant state of upheaval with my system. I had never heard a S.R. amp and I wanted to, so I bought it. I paid 875.00 for it and picked it up directly from Chris. I have put approx 30 hours on the amp and it is hands down one of the best EL-84 PP amps I have heard. I will sell it here for 750.00plus shipping and fees if any. Tubes included are same as mentioned in the description below. Pics are the actual amp offered "Here is a wonderful example of an extremely rare power amplifier - the Sargent Rayment SR 534. Sargent Rayment audio gear is as scarce as hens teeth. It was a company out of California back in the 40's through early 60's that made limited models of tube power amps, integrateds, preamps and tuners. The company didn't sell very far outside of the west coast. However, the limited information on the web blogs all said S-R amplifiers were fantastic, if you could find them. Thus, you rarely ever see them come up for sale anywhere, and the few I have seen over the years have been beat up pretty badly. This one is in very nice condition. Stock, it sounded very good. However, when I updated this with all new PIO caps, and all new metal film resistors throughout the signal path, it brought it to a whole new level. It sounds absolutely amazing. The music just floats, with 3-D-like imaging, and mids and highs just life-like. I would compare the sound of the 534 to the venerable Pilot 232 but with perhaps a bit more "oomph" in the low end, and a wider, even more detailed soundstage. This 534 runs absolutely dead quiet, so it is ideal for even the most efficient speakers. It also runs very cool - the S-R design being more spacious underneath perhaps helps in that regard. Tubes are vintage 6AN8 drivers, a quad of milspec 6p14p outputs, and a vintage 5AR4 rectifier. All tubes test super strong and are tightly matched. As noted, it is in very nice shape cosmetically. The front and top show almost no signs of wear. It appears the side panels had been painted when I received it, but they match pretty close. I did replace the barrier strips with binding posts and added a power switch. You are getting this for what I paid for it in stock condition"

  19. In the market for and trying to hunt down 1 more pair of these to complete my all 70th Anniversary heritage music/theater system. I am located in Northern NJ and am flexible regarding paying shipping including from overseas. Only interested in a very good to excellent condition pair, no major aesthetic issues like gouges/dents etc. If you are looking to unload your pair, perhaps to upgrade to the Heresy IV or another model, let me know as I'd love to take them off your hands!! Thanks for looking guys! All the best, six

  21. And its woofers, look seemingly identical to the KV4’s, is K-29-KN. KV4 uses K-35-KN. Actual performance or internal differences, I couldn’t tell ya.

  22. Feel a little sad for this CF2. Sounded great powered up. Was really surprised at its ability to fill the room by itself. All its drivers are pristine. Cabinet just rough rough. Also if anyone was wondering, its port tube is the same as the dual CF4s (and probably CF3).

  23. Michael Crites is a great guy. Assured me the CF2’s XO is essentially the same even given the different cap. Slapped the CF2 XO and tweeter/ horn in the KV4 and it’s jamming, with the crack on top to remind me of this aggravating journey.

  26. He would get a set of replacement caps from his authorized supplier JEMperformanceaudio.com. He would rebuild one at a time so he could a/b them a little bit and you could hear for yourself what the refresh did. Then he might try some of the other ones available to see if he preferred that sound or not from factory spec. He would test them in his chamber, with his lab grade equipment. He would probably conclude that the transfer curves didn't match his specs/design and might conclude they were inferior, compromising other aspects of the total design. That's exactly what he would do.

  30. I always thought a klfc7 crossover would work just fine. Similar crossover points as well but I never tried it. I have both right now, and with my kv4 lack of love, I might try swapping crossovers and see how it sounds and report back Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk

  31. My biggest concerns while our power was out were my freezer full of venison (at least 150 lbs of steaks, ground, and sausage), and my boat engines. My son and I put the meat in 5 large plastic bins and set those outside where the temp was single digits at the time. After the power was restored and seemed stable, it went back to the freezer. We cable tied the bins shut to keep the critters out during the two nights outside. When the power was out at the marina for two days (and obviously no bilge heater working), I made the somewhat treacherous (especially in the dark) 12-mile round trip to the marina every 8 to 9 hours to run the engines up to operating temperature, then turn off and come home (thank goodness for four wheel drive - way too cold to sleep in the cabin without power). The blocks and heat exchangers stayed above freezing, and seem to be running great. Many, many of my marina neighbors will likely have very expensive engine repair bills.

  36. with me, it's either full bore or all stop. same thing when I cook, my brother is always telling me to turn down the heat. when I turn on the faucet, it's full blast (then I get mad when water splashes all over). when I was married, my wife would always get mad because I would close all jars and lids too tight. Guys like me and Andre the Giant are cursed with an abundance of natural strength. it's hard to control Richie ... it's a blessing and a curse.

  37. Our LG is the same, maybe without the noises. However the linear compressor went out after a year or two. Luckily it was replaced at no cost by the geek squad. When it works it works well. Our other fridge is a more basic whirlpool gold top freezer older model, and has never had a problem, but does make noises. I like the whirlpool better for its simplicity (one ice maker not two). It seems the in door ice maker on the LG is always freezing jamming up. Simple is best, that's why I like the good old manual transmissions in cars. And turntables. And reliable solid state. And wooden hockey sticks, and baseball bats, and single load shot guns, and so on.

  39. Thanks to everyone who responded, there were very many good suggestions. I found a good deal on another Cary SLP-98p F1, and since I love my original so much, I decided it would be a good investment to buy a spare.I'm not sure how much longer Cary will be producing this fine sounding pre, and the prices are just going up on new and used units. The newer stuff from Cary after Dennis Had left isn't the same.

  42. Listening to Van Halen currently, "Finish What Ya Started". Talk about a CLEAN recording! You should check it out... The R-14M's just got deployed. I bought a small Pyle "80 watt" amp (Actually 40W per 2 channels) from the Amazon Warehouse for $28, and I wanted it to drive the sound from a vintage gaming PC from 1998. This amp was surprising to me, it drives those little Klipsches really well. I have the volume turned almost all the way down, and they are plenty loud and clear. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001P2VV50/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 @wvu80
