  1. Okay, I have to respond to some of the comments on this thread. Sancho Panza requested that I replace the caps in his AA networks that had been through a lot and were pretty rough. I gave him a quote to replace the caps. When received, the networks worked. Sonic caps had been installed by a previous owner. Normally, I don't replace caps the way those were done. Since all the wires had been trimmed, I installed the new caps in same manner as the sonic caps with the exception of soldering all connections. The sonic caps were installed with just the wires twisted together and some shrink tubing over the ends. I re-installed the shrink tubing over the soldered ends. It was tight so no reason to shrink the stuff anymore. Sancho informed me he had a much better looking set and sent me photos. Since the repaired networks worked and he had a better looking set, why start replacing parts in the ugly networks that worked fine? The job wasn't "half done" as a comment suggested, Sancho paid for a cap replacement, which is all that was necessary. Oh and by the way, all networks are tested before they are sent back to the customer. Do you really think a service approved by Klipsch would be that careless and not test for proper operation? So how do I normally install caps you ask? When I first started this service, I received a set of AA networks that had been serviced by the Klipsch factory. This information came straight from the original owner customer. The Networks were from 1976 and the caps were replaced by the factory in the mid '90s. PIO caps were long gone so current new production caps were installed. The caps were glued to the board, wires soldered to the cap leads. Nothing fancy, no shrink tubing. Simple to replace, just unsolder the wires, remove the old cap, install the new cap, solder the wires, done. That's the way the factory did it. I have had numerous customers ask me NOT to cut the cap wires anymore than necessary so they could re-install the PIO caps should they wish to sell their speakers 100% as-built. They ask that I return the old caps. So, in the interest of authenticity and the ability to retro-fit the original caps, I install new caps using the original wires and soldering those wires to the cap leads in a presentable manner. That's my decision. This may look crude as someone commented, but it works just fine and, well except for gluing the caps to the board, is factory authentic. If a customer wants the caps glued down, I will. On pricing: ricktate, the $106.00 from Crites is for an "A" network, not a "AA". At least compare the same networks. I am sure there is return shipping and insurance charges also. Our pricing is fair and you are getting genuine Klipsch approved with JEM. Yes, you can buy just the cap kit. As to not being a "full" repair center, as I have stated before we only use Klipsch approved replacement parts. What is so hard to understand? We can't use off the shelf parts in these networks and have authenticity. This service is all about keeping the older Klipsch models functioning as PWK intended. That requires factory approved parts. If you don't like or agree with what I do or how I do these repairs, don't use the service. But show some respect for what we are doing to preserve authenticity and proper operation of PWK's speakers.

My Chorus 1's are apart for a few more weeks b/c I am also doing braces above & below the 15" woofers & installing 7" flared port extension again for the 2nd time (these are my 2nd pair of Chorus 1's 😃

  9. General advice?? Cross them over high, at least 80 Hz, better yet 100. The Lascala loses horn loading around 100Hz. Get yourself an SPL meter and read up on calibration. A poor sub calibrated correctly (phase, time, spl) sounds better than a good sub calibrated poorly. A sub needs a lot more work to get it set up properly than your mains do. Subs also rarely work best where they're aesthetically pleasing so you'll need to choose looks or function as to what's important to you.

  10. I read somewhere on diyAudio that some guy was using a pair of Axi2050s without horns--like they were full-range loudspeakers. I assume he flattened the response a bit using some form of EQ somewhere upstream...but it is an interesting notion. I bet they sound like really good table radios. Chris

I Spoke with Jim via phone, (he's super nice & helpful) ordered the cap kit for my pair of Chorus 1's for 64.00$ I then had my local vintage stereo shop guy install em to prevent any potential shipping damage of the frail Chorus boards. 14. PWK was commissioned in the Army as an Ordnance officer. Ordnance is the projectiles/ammunition and their delivery systems, from individual firearms, all the way up to missiles, their delivery systems and their warheads. PWK was also a competition rifle shooter for a number of years, and most likely also competed in hand-gun competition. His assignment to the Southwest Proving Grounds for the duration of WWII led him to decide to start-up his speaker business there after the war ended. He liked the work ethic of the locals and his wife was already teaching at the school In Hope. The former proving grounds are a few miles North of Hope, Arkansas. Those proving grounds during WWII, were primarily devoted to improvement of ammunition for mortars and artillery during the war. Although PWK was an avid shooter he did no hunting. of wild game. He WAS a re-loader, though. He worked-up some nice loads to try out in my .300 Win Mag. I supplied the once-expended brass and his recommendations for various weight/type bullets in .308 diameter for use in different hunting scenarios, and he worked up the loads...they were extremely accurate loads, too! He was really surprised when I repaid him with two boxes of Sierra .308 match-king BTHP 168 gr. bullets...I figured he had an M1903A1 NM w/star-gauged barrel stashed somewhere at home...and he displayed his not often seen BIG grin when I handed them to him. 🤣 .

Here is the response I got from the head guy..... “we’re dealing with unprecedented traffic and are drastically increasing the size of the team to get back to world class service asap.“ We have more than doubled the customer service reps as of last week. We appreciate your patience. Thanks.

  24. You can do whatever you want to do to your klipsch speaker. The speaker was designed and produced with a certain spec in mind. Once you put in something that is not klipsch approved then it is no longer a klipsch speaker. I really don’t understand why this is so hard to comprehend

  30. If you want a Klipsch sub contact Corey. He can fix you up. I really think any good sub will work fine. It is all how much you want to spend. Doubt if you need 20 Hz. Flat to 30 Hz is plenty. A sealed box sub is usually smaller than ported. Rolls off slower. Space looks to be a premium in your setup. But one the size of the table should keep up. Doubt if I could live without a sub with the LS II. Especially after having one for so long. Going back to full range would be to hard. Might have to change speakers.

  33. are you a member of some secret Klipsch society which avails to educate those who might want to modify a Klipsch product which they own that they are somehow unknowingly destroying forever a Klipsch loudspeaker? If you have no assistance to offer by way of information or help then leave the guy to it. How many warning do there need to be, is there a set number he can at least look forward to when the warnings stop?

  36. Not going to pretend I'm an expert on vaccine development. My point is that the development builds on a lot of medical development and research, so while it is newer it is based on a solid understanding of what is going on. I wouldn't say it's a radical departure and it has followed very well established guidelines for development and testing. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/different-vaccines/mrna.html

  39. That's definitely one way to look at it but this quote from sage @BigStewMan got me thinkin' how we also need to look at it globally...Sometimes we get too USA--centric and not realize how things are viewed globally and the repercussions... Both China and Russia are manufacturing vaccines and using it for Diplomacy regardless of their other offeneses. This is definitely from a Russian source but it's being seen in those countries mentioned as much as CNN. China and Russia to ensure global access to Covid-19 vaccines — RT Sponsored content and ya gotta think minds are being changed about those two countries.... From the link: China and Russia are working hand in hand to provide global access to Covid-19 vaccines. This is particularly relevant in a world where as little as ten countries control 75% of all vaccine supply, while many parts of the planet haven’t seen a single dose. To ensure equal access to vaccination, the People’s Republic of China pledged to provide 10 million Covid-19 shots to developing nations through COVAX – a global vaccine-sharing initiative backed by the World Health Organization. As of today, China has donated vaccines to 69 nations and has started exporting doses to 43 countries. In addition, it has contributed a share of its vaccine supply to the UN peacekeeping force and is ready to provide vaccinations to to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic athletes.

  42. Listening Impressions: As far as I can tell, the Axi2050 is pretty much a match for the TAD TD-4002, with the understanding that there is a very, very small apparent difference in "sparkle" or "air" on the very top end. It is so small that I doubt I could pick it out on a blind-blind A-B comparison test, unless the test music used was very specific to show the differences. My guess is that no one else would hear it either since it would take a very careful and meticulous dialing-in process in both cases (in-room EQ and delays). This implies to me that I could be making my judgment between the two based only on sighted bias. I think the two drivers are fully interchangeable in terms of their resulting sound quality after being very carefully dialed in. I have been playing the TAD TD-4002 on the left channel and the Axi2050 on the right channel for a couple of days now, and can make no observations about left-right sound quality/balance other than the sparkle comment I made above--subject to sighted bias. The difference in crossing the K-402/Axi2050 an octave lower than the K-402/TAD TD-4002 is not generally audible, although I have lowered the K-402 on top of the Jubilee bass bins in both cases to minimize the vertical separation issues between the two horns. It seems to me that the Axi2050 on the right, crossed an octave lower than the TAD TD-4002 on the left, makes a very, very subtle difference, and only if moving well outside of the listening position(s) laterally. The right channel (Axi2050) may sound a little more "full" in the lower midrange (225-500 Hz) which is difficult to pick out, but I would expect this might become more audible over time if listened to extensively. I can't make a judgment presently, but the idea (in my mind's eye) of crossing an octave lower is one that I would welcome--it's just that I'm not sure that I can really hear it presently. I would say this driver can't really be beat in terms of sound quality, equal to the sound quality of the TAD TD-4002s, and having an extra octave of low end response that the K-402 horn can easily take advantage of. One more point: I have seen no other in-production horns that can fully take advantage of this driver's very broad-band performance than the K-402 horn. Even the largest SEOS 30 horn isn't big enough to take advantage of the extended low end of this new Celestion Axi2050 driver. Chris

  43. J.. The Universal will replace the AK-2 but I generally suggest the AP12-350 and ES5800 set to upgrade that network. The AK-2 and AK-3 networks both have extreme-slope tweeter filters already in them. The AK-4 and AK-5 do NOT. The Universal has a 18 dB / octave tweeter filter. The Universal has other advantage over the AK-2 or AK-3 but the AP12-350 and ES5800 set give you all those and a correct extreme-slope tweeter filter too. Dean is correct that the woofer filter of the AK-2 is inside the woofer hatch. The AK-3 is set up the same way. You need to open the hatch and use the cable going to the upper half of the AK-3 to run directly to the woofer driver. The cable from the amp will be moved directly to the new networks input terminals. The old input posts on the woofer hatch are no longer used. This is the case with the Universal as well. Al K.
