  2. @codewritinfool and I had a listening session this morning to try out my new subs and compare to his THTLP. I knew there would be no loser in this fight as I have heard both, I just wanted to make sure I didn't make a misstep building for portability and straying from my usual go to, horn loaded sub. This shootout proved my new subs do a great job with the four LSi's as did the THTLP. I am satisfied with the outcome. The real winner was the LS. They never cease to amaze me. We covered a lot of music in about 3.5 hours and they knocked all genres out of the park. Good time for sure.

  3. I know back in the day you all loved the Not Ready for Prime Time Players. But as you've gotten older you tend to fall asleep quickly after your warm milk and your teeth go into the cleaning glass. So you probably missed this on SNL this past weekend. This one is for @DizRotus @richieb @Tarheel @jimjimbo probably @CECAA850 and the rest of you usual suspects that has had everything laid at your footsteps since the day you were born. 😉

  6. very true & im sure the cornwall is better... but it all comes down to budget & needs. i have yet to hear a chorus 2 owner unhappy with the speakers & for many they are a huge improvement over any previous speakers they may have owned, most would be beyond pleased with their sound & never want for anything more. my advice or suggestion is purely price based... the price of the cornwall 4 is $6000! compared to a set of average condition chorus or chorus 2 for ~$800-$1000, personally i dont see a $5000 improvement, especially when you can upgrade or refresh the chorus 2 for a matter of a couple hundred bucks or less & have a speaker that will do 99+% of what the majority of people could ever need. i'm aware there is a small percentage that can afford the newer models but for most they are out of reach or just not worth the price difference... im more than content with my chorus 2 & thats coming from a previous owner of K-horns, cf4's & numerous other large klipsch & other brands. all comes down to budget in this hobby or any other.

  7. lot of options.. I watch the GrandSumo and AustrailianSuperTruckRacing. Bobtail semis racing on a course. --------------------------------- Gonna be a nice day, temp wise. We'll see how the wind is. Think the neighbor/s may get a "concert" today. Yard work requires music.

  8. Two points. First, the crossover is specific to the cabinet you have. A generic crossover seldom works. Second, crossovers usually don't fail. Most components last a life time (inductor, autoformer, resistor). Some components may deteriorate with age (capacitors). Unless there is a fuse in the crossover (or near), the system will still produce decent sound (even with some deteriorated capacitors). What is far more likely, is that the connections or a fuse have failed. Clean the connections (screw terminals on the board) and re-tighten. This can solve many problems. More importantly (and determine this before you start acting on advice via the internet), is what makes you think the problem is the crossover? You have not given any real information about what the specific problem is ( "crossover is gone" is not adequate). Simple tests include 1) are all the drivers not working? 2) if you swap the left and right outputs from your amplifier, does the "problem" go to the other side? 3) Are you (or a friend) comfortable with hooking up the output of the crossover from the "good side" to the "bad" side to see if the problem remains, 4) Do you have access to a RMS voltmeter? Unfortunately when someone gets on the forum and types "crossover" without any real description of the problem, then some members will immediately go into "upgrade mode". When this happens, regardless of the original problem, you get bombarded by suggestions of upgrades and needing to use magical capacitors that cost hundreds of dollars to "remove the veil" and open up the sound. I hope I have saved you some money, -Tom

  10. I would go , to at least 50% of an LS5 walnut equivalent's cost in 2021- take that price ---cut it in half - not a penny less -

  12. Truly sorry to see these 2 great speakers being forced into a showdown. I can only hope one of them one of them has the growth and courage to walk away. Never thought I would see the day the one would be pitted against the other. Sad day to even think it could happen.

  15. Never thought of these guys as prog back in the day, thought of them more as a kind of glam-rock like Bowie with more instruments. Whichever, this later stuff from Genesis live makes for a good hour or so of a good atmosphere to work by.

  17. All those roadies can’t be wrong. Being able to make solid connections with one hand while blindfolded is priceless. The Liechtenstein bit is just a conversation starter at parties.

  19. It was overload for sports yesterday. 2 different USA men's soccer matches, the U-23 team failed to qualify for the Olympics, but the big boys beat Northern Ireland on their home turf, plus frozen four regional finals---3 out of the 4 finalists are from the state of hockey, Minnesota, but the Golden Gophers didn't make it up against Minn St. NHL games too. No room or interest for roundball. This morning still working on the big bag of Lion brand hawaiian original roast...

  20. It was a great time. The build quality is excellent, though I had one nit with that and we laughed about it - I would have used SpeakOn connectors. So for the indoor listening test, I have to be honest, I was pretty astounded at how well @MookieStl's subs performed. They held up the bottom end really well, easily on par with the THTLP at the volumes we were listening to, which was moderate to quite loud (tough to have a conversation at 30' back). Those LAB-15's were barely moving. Way way less than I thought they would in a ported-box design... even given that the xmax is low, I still expected more travel in that design topology than what I saw for the output we were hearing. We didn't get a chance to flip everything around and aim it out the dock door and crank it way up, and I even told @MookieStl that that would be the real test - to see how well they can hold up when really tasked with lots of power outside. He agreed and is planning to do that test soon enough. code

  24. I got the Crown amp hooked up and running the KLF-20's. It sounds very clear threw these speakers, you have to have your ear right up to the speaker to here any hiss and even then its very slight. No way would i pay the money difference others are wanting for less distortion. I think the amp is a winner with all kinds of power specially for the price. No more distortion when cranking to high volume and my reciever is running cool. Now i need more speakers and more amps to stack ! Embrace technology !

  27. Wise decision. Why not just spend the next couple of months listening, move the chair around a bit, change the toe-in a bit, move them toward a corner or away from a corner a bit and just listen and listen some more. They are good speakers. Enjoy them.

  30. These threads always crack me up. if someone wants the Cornwall 4s and is willing to pay the price why dissuade them from doing so. Its not as if it is your $$$$$$. Add to that the LIST price of the Corwalls 4s are $6,000 but I bet they are much less expensive at Paducah. I have had a pair of Forte 1s in my family for over 35 years and modified them with Dave As tweeters and threw in some new Crites crossovers. They sounded good but -- there were a few things i felt I were missing with them. I bought the new Forte 4s and they are so much better in my mind than the modified 1s. So much better - night and day - in my room with my gear and to my ears. Totally worth it to me!!! I have heard the Cornwall 4s are much better than the previous modes and I am guessing that they sound like a bigger version of the Forte 4s. For me the biggest difference in my Forte 4s is the soundstage. Much wider and much deeper and much more centered! Bass is improved, mids are cleaner and highs a better match to the mids. Totally worth it to me but if someone is completely happy with the Chorus speakers they have or any piece of gear they then keep enjoying. I assume that Buddy would end up happier with the Cornwall 4s but I have never heard them or the older Chorus speakers. I say to Buddy - Go for it! I am so happy I upgraded to the Forte 4s.

  31. If you plan on using REW software, then get a Umik-1 or 2. It comes with a microphone calibration file that REW reads to understand the characteristics of your particular Umik.

  33. You're probably not going to be satisfied with the sound unless you get an OEM woofer. Best thing to do is put a WTB post in the Garage Sale here and check eBay often.

  37. I think it depends on where you're putting em, & what you listen to. I am the "oddball" who did the opposite 😃 I bought a pair of pristine Chorus 1's , modified the ports (thread on here) then played em side by side for quite a while. I eventually sold my La Scala's I had bought new & owned since 1984 In my 12 x 14 (vaulted ceiling) listening room, I prefer the chest pounding mid bass the 15" Chorus pro woofer provides. My La Scalas just fell short side by side. (don't have room, & don't want a sub) The La Scala mid horn was better, but not by a mile. I'm still happy 3 years later w/o regrets. I don't miss my La Scalas, & would still do the same thing over for MY room.

  40. are they are a bunch of junk and should I use them for firewood??? Why yes, of course, just send them to me here......hehehehehehehehe The other equipment looks old and outdated...as well. Tell ya what, why not take a huge tax write off and I will give ya 200 for it all? You can deliver when? I know, a little early for April Fools, and yes, I am kidding!!!! As a singer THAT would be a KILLER system!!! I am sure Colterphoto1 is drooling. I think Roy Delgado or Jim Hunter designed that system? Chime in here Michael? It was way before it's time and HUGE spl's that was made to be on the stage or flown too! Get it back to specs... and ooo la la! One thing for sure... you could play in a band out with that system live in 90% of the clubs, and not look to have to find another system to add to it! Big or Small it could handle it all! OK, medium to big clubs and bars might be more like it? It might be a little much for the local coffee house club! A WALL OF SOUND 4 SURE!
