  2. Below is my favorite album of him, Nightfall. Just two musicians, trumpet and bass. The compositions and virtuosity is amazing. Got to know it on Spotify when I had bought my first Klipsch speakers, and recently bought the CD. If I ever need to convince someone why tube amps and Klipsch are superior, I'd use this album!

  6. AAHHH..what a feeling my TT is spinning again SPYRO GYRO`S " Catching the sun " . Wow what a history .... Spyro Gyra is an American jazz fusion band. It was formed in Buffalo in the early 1970s by saxophonist Jay Beckenstein (born 1951) and keyboardist Jeremy Wall. With over 20 albums and more than ten million records sold worldwide, Spyro Gyra is one of the most distinguished and commercially successful bands in the history of jazz. Between 1980 and 1985, the band was awarded seven Grammys. The band grew out of jam sessions by musicians in Buffalo, New York, some of whom knew each other from high school and some of whom had a rhythm-and-blues background. The name came out of a joke - the club owner pushed for it and Beckenstein dug up a type of algae Spirogyra, often referred to as screw algae in German, from his memory that he remembered from biology class. In addition to Beckenstein and Wall (who, however, was no longer part of the live band after 1978), the initial members included Tom Schuman (keyboards), guitarists Freddy Rapillo and Rick Strauss, and drummers Tom Duffy and Ted Reinhardt. Until 1994, Dave Samuels, who brought Caribbean flair on marimba, was also a frequent guest. Their first record came out in 1978 (Spyro Gyra) with their hit Shaker Song. They had their breakthrough with the follow-up album Morning Dance and the hit single of the same name, released in 1979.In 2013 members of the band are Jay Beckenstein (saxophone), Tom Schuman (keyboards, piano), Julio Fernandez (guitars), Lee Pearson (drums, percussion), Scott Ambush (bass). 15. Brian May is making good on his promise. "Anyone up for a BM release with lots of juicy extras?" the legendary Queen guitarist asked his fans on Instagram some time ago - and announced, "We have a plan." Unsurprisingly, the fans' answer was a resounding "yes." Now May delivers. His solo debut album Back To The Light will be released on August 6, 2021 as a remastered edition with, as announced, plenty of extras. Those were turbulent times when Brian May released his solo debut Back To The Light in 1992. The year before, Queen frontman Freddie Mercury had passed away. On April 29, 1992, May had already introduced a new song to fans at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert, the track Too Much Love Will Kill You. A few months later, on September 28, 1992, May's solo debut Back To The Light was finally released (in the U.S. and Canada, the long player was not released until February 2, 1993). The album was well received and reached the sixth place in the album charts in Great Britain. Now Back To The Light is being re-released - and in several editions. The centerpiece of the release is undoubtedly the Collector's Edition box set. Included in it: an exclusive white vinyl LP, two CDs, a 32-page book, a 12″ art print, a download card and an enamel plaque. If you want it even more exclusive, grab the 1000-piece limited edition box set. This includes a signed 12-inch art print and is available in the Queen online store. If that's too extensive for you, you can also choose other formats. The album is also available af 1LP black 180g vinyl, 1CD, deluxe 2CD, cassette and digital formats. A bonus album of special versions and live tracks called Out Of The Light is available in the box set, 2CD edition and digital formats. In addition, vinyl fans can look forward to a picture disc, which will be released in limited edition in the Queen online store. Brian May has written new liner notes for the new edition. In them, May pens a tribute to the record's late drummer, Cozy Powell, and reflects on the album's era. The guitarist also hints at further releases, saying, "This is part of a series. The Brian May Gold Series. Every piece of it will have a little gold stamp on it. And each of them will give me the opportunity to rediscover the path I've been on." For the remaster they got prominent support: Grammy Award winner Bob Ludwig worked with the original, restored flat mixes - and brought the sound of Back To The Light into the present.

  20. Well the project is well and truly under way. Cabinet build almost there. Bracing and finishing to do. Does anyone have advice with how crazy I should go bracing? The window cross brace pictured is installed. The horizontal pieces shown are what I'm thinking of doing but I'm sure there is more or better I could do. Cabinets are 1 inch thick birch ply. Baffle is 1 3/4 laminate of birch and mdf. My bracing will be made from the 1 inch ply. To put things into perspective i could put anothet two cross braces in of the same size of the existing and be at 6ft3 internal volume. (Horn, drivers and corner blocking etc taken into consideration.) Made my cabinets a little larger at almost 6.9ft3 internal. Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers.

  22. I had the honor of Mr. Gillum reaching out to me in some messages on eBay, inquiring about a set of his Gillum G2's sitting underneath a set of my custom made Ash Hardwood stands I hand craft and sell on there. His son found the picture on eBay and showed it to him, and that's what prompted him to reach out, and let me know how nice my stands looked, as well as how sturdy. I was blown away to say the least. Prior to that, I was always questioning myself, as to whether or not my hand made stands were good enough to be sold on the open market. After I received those messages from him, all of the questioning, and insecurities are gone. A compliment from Gary, is pretty much like an established Rock Star hearing you play, and saying, "Get ready, because you're about to go big..." I have those messages framed and in my wood shop. I can even take pictures for proof. I'll provide a picture of the Gillum speaker, sitting on one of my custom stands. This is the picture that prompted him to write me. 2nd picture in. I asked him if he wouldn't mind, from time to time, as I came up with different speaker stand designs, if I may run some of my ideas by him, and if he would let me know his opinion. His answer verbatim, "Opinions.............yes." I've written him a few times, to see how he was doing, and he responded in kind, and also gave me some cool little pieces of trivia about his time at Klipsch. The very little I know of him, I like very much. God Bless you Gary, and all your family and friends... https://www.ebay.com/itm/193029475772

  25. Bought this CD box a while ago after watching a recent docu on zz top. I got to know them only in the mid 80s with Terminator, in their MTV period, but instantly loved them. Remember fishing trips with my friends, and when zz top was on that little portable fm radio, the volume would go up to 10 and we'd all sing along with those guitar riffs! We were 16 and I think we all had fallen in love with the cute girls in their videos! And those fuzzy guitars and those cool sunglasses! Good memories!!!!

  27. I've been recording chorale and orchestral music live-in-concert for 30+ years. I have to disagree with a close up sound for this kind of music. You have to use multiple microphones all at different distances/locations and there's really no way to control the sound from one group/area of instruments bleeding to another without experiencing a lot of phase interference between the microphones. The phase interference causes all kinds of stridency problems, as well as messing with the low-end response. Mixing all those extra fill-in mics with the main stereo pickup mics becomes a nightmare IMO. And it also tends to destroy any semblance of "space" - the sound of the hall - the sense of space and place. And of course once you do that, the recording cannot possibly "take you there". So yes, your preference for "up close sound" is likely due to your short audiophile life. The close mic/multi-mic techniques tend to work better for studio recordings like pop and rock which are typically more of a cut and paste, assembly-like process, not a recording of a "live performance".

  28. Emile, A couple of things are getting confused regarding diaphragm size vs throat size. If the throat on the horn is 2 inch then get a driver with the same size exit (2 inch). Going small to large (1.4 inch driver to 2 inch horn) is not a great idea, but folks do this sometimes. On the other hand going large to small ( 2 inch driver to 1.4 horn throat) is a rotten idea. It actually can mechanically create a low pass filter. Notice I have not said anything thing about diaphragm size only horn throat and driver exit. Something to consider, and it may not work in your case, the edges of the K-402 (flat part with the bolt holes) can be trimmed back an inch or two on each side (table saws are wonderful). Would this work for you? Additionally, the K-402 can be rotated so it becomes 26 wide and 40 tall. You would need to alter the stand/mount and you might need to re-think your crossover point. Additionally, is it possible that you have given up prematurely on the K-510 horn. I think it is a real champ. Another round of adjusting the crossover point, and EQ'ing it might work wonders. Good luck, -Tom

  33. I have a garage system with some Heresys and an old Harmon Kardon receiver. Listen to analog FM anytime I'm working out there. Have rabbit ears with the dial on them and it works fine for stations around Athens and Atlanta. There is still plenty of diversity of music on FM in this area. Anything you want to listen to.
