  5. Roy recently mentioned this "First off, Paul klipsch once said, if I can see farther then those before me, it is because I stand on the shoulders of giants." Dennis used it in the past, perhaps because he may also have heard PWK use it while Dennis was a Klipsch dealer in Iowa. It's a phrase so full of meaning on different levels, but it has been around for a long, long time. Thank you, Roy, for bringing it to my attention once again. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_on_the_shoulders_of_giants

  6. Make a solar powered oven on your patio, almost any black closed in box might work. ' When I smoke in the summer i only need to raise the temp about 125 degrees and much less if I move it into the sun.

  8. There have been some great components and just receivers listed in the garage sale for the past while. They are hardly ever at a convenient time for me and my wallet. Usually pop up right after I fork out for something!

  10. Btw I listened to midnight and the volume was up,and I could not hear any hotness or any unpleasentness from the K52 midrange or K77. If anything I would say there was a kind of a "frosting on the cake" to everything. Classical music was wonderful and the human voice had a human quality to it....instead of being just reproduced. More later today when i run these with my Khorns.

  12. They usually hunt above the water, then go under and slowly swim up underwater to right where they want to attack, or they just swim right up on top and go after whatever they want. I would rather see a alligator than a spider, a spider has to do nothing and I may have heart failure.

  13. Just listening...never heard Heresys before. Kind of shocked really; the immediacy a long with the overall balance is really good. Natural is a over used word by audiophiles but these do posses a wonderful realism for a small speaker. Power but nothing over top. More later.

  14. Sorry to hear about your friend, Elden and Christy. JEESH attacked and killed by an alligator! I'll stick with my tarantulas thank you very much. Labor Day weekend and boy did I ever. Not much to show for it, there only so much one can do when its 105 degrees. Yea but its a dry heat hahaha

  16. If you are going the "pretty" route, look up a couple threads from @Matthews He did several pairs of LS that went he resurrected. Those of mine pictured above in @codewritinfool's post were a pair he grabbed that were too far gone for anything other than industrial. Like I said several (3 or 4) detailed threads by Mathews that are a fun read.

  18. 9.7.2021 Update Over the holiday weekend I made some progress. Installed the new Solen 2.0 uF caps. Wired the Type C crossover to the Type E. Sealed the front motor board, rear panel and all drivers with foam gasketing tape. Lined and stuffed the cabinet with batts of wool insulation. Sound quality has now improved substantially! Most notably is the low end, it is tight and accurate. In comparing these H700's to my other pair of Heresy's these now seem to dig a bit deeper in the bass department. The other huge takeaway is that the sound transparency is back, no longer do I feel the speakers are shouting at me from their locations. As the caps are breaking in the sound keeps getting better and the soundstage wider. Overall I am more than happy with the results. Next step will be the cosmetic process but I'm in no rush to get that complete. For now I'll keep listening to these and enjoying them.

  19. Like your Marantz model. Bet it sounds tubelike. You live in an interesting time as to Klipsch. Well, just thinking, so do I. Lol Thanks!

  20. Usually when I buy used speakers it works out pretty well.....tube amps are like land mines for me. I never know when they will blow. I now only buy Mac gear (not a lot)because I know I can get it gone through and in a timely matter. Maybe there's a Cornwall or a LaScala is in my future,I have a Mac1500 that needs to grow a pair of speakers for another bedroom system. It's a incurable disease and Klipschitis is a bad one indeed.

  21. Chores today... every day.... Gets real bad when I shirk my duties and take a day off. thinking about making lasagna for dinner. Need to see what is available to toss in it. This is one dish I make vegetarian. Summer squash, mushrooms, onions, peppers, tomatoes, broccoli and about any veg that ends in an "I", lots of cheese/s. i'll get a 9 X 9in and a 13 X 9in pans.. I can't make a small batch. The filling always seems to make a gallon. Then I get to do my Garfield impression.... for breakfast, lunch and dinner fr a few days.....and enjoying it the whole time

  23. With these below test numbers I bet it can. Lab Tests The R-115's power output at clipping into 8-ohm loads at 1,000 Hz was 105 watts per channel, well above its 70-watt rating. Into 4 ohms, the output was 148 watts, and into 2 ohms it was a potent 210 watts. The dynamic power output during a 20-millisecond tone burst was 170 watts into 8 ohms, 275 watts into 4 ohms, and 350 watts into 2 ohms. The 8-ohm clipping and dynamic headrooms were 1.77 and 3.85 dB, respectively. Bill

It was about a 25 ft length of monster cable the guy who I bought my Khorns from gave me....it wasn't green. Good thing my time is free! Lesson learned....You guys are great Thanks

  26. Just so everyone knows... I am not criticising Roy or PWK. The statement/quote is true for anyone. All of us, if we have our wits about us, see more than those who have come before. Some of us just happen to use what we have seen better than others.

  28. Whenever I get new (used) speakers the first thing I do is unplug and reconnect the input wires at each driver several times. This will remove years of oxidization and give you a much better signal transfer. Then, unscrew and tighten each screw at the input barrier strip, front and back.

  29. That was yesterday, I hate to hear about this but knowing him and all the crazy that happened years ago with all of us I did laugh a little, he would have done the same. He was a nice guy, and funny, we all got seperated with jobs, familys, kids and never got to see everyone as time past. I guess the good part was he had passed out when on the stairs, maby dead, so he was not awake when it came back and drug him off. That's better than being attacked by an alligator twice and knowing about it twice. They have been, no way to know which one it was and they may find something eventually ? It was kind of crazy to walk around in the water in that neighborhood with all the waterfront houses people tend to feed the alligators, so with high water they could be anywhere.

  31. I think that every time Roy posts. Even his terse responses lead one to better understand Klipsch or physics or oneself. He made a joke once about fishing that made two valid points at once, (a) that the poster was spending a great deal of time and effort on something with little reward on the other end, and (b) that the poster was taking himself too seriously. Typical of an engineer - no wasted words. Atypical is his love and respect for his heritage. : )

  32. You can get a used Active Xover pretty cheap and use some cheap class D chip amps from China on all the channels rather than commit to passives that were designed for commercial use instead of home. Most of the time, you will be using 1/4 Watt per channel and never exceed 10 W in the house. I had a big stack of MWM stuff in my house. Also Khorns for 30 years. Indoors is low watts on a horn!!!

  33. So have you changed the gain of your preamp/integrated amplifier? I have a digital readout on my AVP, which I typically set to a movie--loud position (-12 dB in my setup presently), and which is part of my checklist of things every time I pull out the UMIK-1 and REW to measure again. Also, not moving the microphone between measurements is a pretty big deal, unless you're trying to average measurements around the on-axis measurement, in which case, you'd move the microphone around by perhaps 6-12 inches or so, then average the measurements. This is much more time consuming, however, than using just the on-axis measurement. Chris

  35. We knew him well in Berkeley and Oakland California! Breathless at the Cinema on Shattuck and Haste, and That Man from Rio at the Parkway in Oakland. Robert (Bobby) F. Kennedy thought TMFR was one of the funniest movies he had seen. RIP, John Paul! Please forgive the San Francisco State University film faculty for doing a satire on the New Wave called Your Breath to Breathe

  36. Hmmmmm my remote control on the doghouse system has developed an intermittent problem. I did do some KISS troubleshooting. Replace batts. Power everything down/hard shutdown. ..unplugged... I powered things down last night. Lightning was popping. Closed the window. When I powered things back up... the receiver remote didn't work very good or at all. Oh darn... I will have to get a "new" receiver. The display is almost visible on the receiver, too. I don't think/know if it's worth repairing. It's an older Sony 5.1. 110W/ch Guess I will be doing some shopping. Don't need a showcase piece... just something that works enough to push these RP600s. Appearance isn't critical.

  43. Ok Randy, you're obviously bothered by this so I'll tell you about a secret I've been keeping..... A couple-few years ago after fixing up my speakers, PWK came to me in a dream one night. He said "Son, I see that you and others have changed the components in your speakers".......and then he said, "What's up with that?" Then I said to him, "Sir, forgive me.....I have strayed but mean no harm". Then I went on to explain. "It's like this, Sir. My poorly made speakers were literally falling apart at the seems. The cheaply made woofers were blown with no replacements to purchase from Klipsch. The crossovers were faulty after only eight years of use. The tweeter diaphragms sucked from the beginning. The mid drivers were fine but I was on a roll so I changed them anyway. (After all how could I not after all of John Allen's extensive research)" Then Paul said "Do they still sound like Klipsch?" Then I said "Yes father.....only better". Paul looked me square in the eye and said he was gonna kick my arse. Then he lightened up and said "Ok, ok......I'll let it slide since the crossover values are still the same and you had good intentions". Then he told me I was a handsome young man and told me to rock out and tell RandyH to relax. That's how it went down. Exactly. Sent from my SM-G991U using Tapatalk

  45. Listen to FM daily, sometimes all day as background while I go about my work. I have a strong preference for DJs, that add a lot of value to the program by selection and sometimes background information. A computer can only select music for you based on ratings or what others have listened to, a computer has no idea if a song is great or sucks in melody, lyrics or technical proficiency. Or which three songs compliment each other. On occasion I stream remote radio stations, one I like in Cape Town has lots of local news and issues on their jazz station, interesting to hear what others are up to. FM forever !
