  1. I am afraid the OP has stepped into a mess. 1) B&K Sound is a respected outfit on this forum (with a long and honorable history), 2) by posting the photo (with logo) you are trashing them and in all fairness we do not know the context (Grandma used to say "there are two sides to every story"), 3) I am skeptical you would actually be able to hear any difference (but I might be wrong), 4) Finally, and importantly, rather than than trashing them, why not simply make the phone and speak to them in person (if you have not already done so). You might be surprised how easy it can be to clear up or clean up what ever the problem might be. Good luck, -Tom

  2. Price is fair and the builder did a good job. I'm guessing the Sonicaps were unavailable in the required value, so a proper substitute was used (Klipsch probably did this all the time). Any good business has a second and/or third source available for parts. The brand of capacitor does not matter at all. As long as all the parameters and the type of dielectric is the same (which it is). Neither does the low tolerance if they are measured and hand selected for their Accurate Value, it's just as good or better. As long as it SOUNDS good when used in the speakers it was designed for..........................Don't worry, be happy. Otherwise, it's just "bitchin' bout nuthin"

  3. My Flagship Pre-Amp has arrived today from its repair and service. I have owned it for 5 years now and it was the first time I had problems. The cost of repair was just under 200 €. I´m very happy that I can now return the borrowed English Camtech preamplifier to my friend. The Camtech plays well but doesn´t have the class of my Marantz.

  6. Pacer check up today and I'm back to abby-normal. I got the boot for a year and a half. Got home and got a call to slip an hour away to go to an Albert Cummings show tomorrow night. Cooling down a bit in the evenings now so might have to bundle up a bit. Guy said he had a "pod" next to the stage. Why am I having visuals of a St Bernard's outside igloo dog house? Six heads vying for time peeking out the door of it? He also told me to bring a lawn chair if I wanted to. Could be a nanu nanu moment.

  8. Finally pulled the trigger on a pair of Forte IV’s and am powering them with a Vincent 237MK Hybrid Amp. I relegated the Tannoy Revolution XTF8’s the the bedroom stereo system and am stoked as they are great speakers in their own right. My initial impressions are WOW! The scale, punch and “live music” feel are all there. To my ears there is nothing missing as the bass is deep and tight, mids are clear and unmuddled and the highs are clean and defined. Have about 80 hours on them and always questioned the “break in period” notion although it makes sense on some level. These speakers absolutely rock but have handled everything (jazz, metal, blues) I have thrown at them. And for me there are definitely sonic improvements over the Forte 3’s, which I almost purchased. Interested in the thoughts of other Forte 4 owners.

  9. Better Not. I'd put my Stones records on a shelf....... Trower and then Gibbons. Two of my three all time favorite guitarists. Seen and heard lots of great ones. These three showmen can convey the emotions and make me wanna move. Fortune has it that I've seen each multiple times. The other:

  12. Hey, there's an Epic group. Why not Heresy? 🙂 I'll start: Currently have three Heresys in an LCR configuration. Main pair from 1980, HBR. Replaced network caps with @JEM Performance Audio kit. Center is 1981 components in a 1985 FB cabinet. Also has JEM Performance Audio network rebuild kit. First Heresy pair I owned was a near mint Heresy II pair from 1990. Beautifully aged Birch Raw. Purchased them for $100 around 2017. Second pair I owned had 1981 components in FB cabinets from 1985. I purchased these from @Shaun K. Sold one to @blair234me and am using the other one as my center. I did also purchase a pair of Heresy III from @Paducah Home Theaterbut returned them. They just sounded way too laid back for me. Even my wife, who would be perfectly fine listening to the TV's built-in speakers, said she didn't like how they sounded. Always on the hunt for a good deal on another pair to complete a 5 channel Heresy setup.

  15. I guess I find the term "fanboy mentality" to be insulting. I assume it was a miscommunication, since I can't imagine that you joined a forum so that you could insult people. Why don't we leave it at that. Good luck, -Tom

  16. Did you get screwed? No, but perhaps as others said, communications were not clear on both sides. Below is a break down of prices. The price of these items may be less for the builder, since I assume they buy in quantity for most parts. However, let's assume the prices below are somewhat accurate. Price Break Down: (Parts Express Prices) Inductors Erse 1.5mH coils - $35.89 x 2 = $71.78 Generic 2.2mH coils - $20.00 x 2 = $40.00 Resistors $1.50 x 6 = $9.00 Caps Erse 47uF/100V: $1.49 x 2 = $2.98 Dayton 8.2uF - $3.59 x 2 = $7.18 Dayton 27uF - $9.29 x 2 = $18.58 Barrier strips - $3.00 x 2 = $6.00 Wood = $20 Total Parts - $175.52 Labor - $124.48, 6 hours / $20 hour If anything, you got a bargain to have someone build you crossovers at $20 / hour much less an established small business in the audio community. Whenever I build something for somebody (which is not too often because then my hobby becomes "work" and it is difficult to justify the cost of "my time") the hardest part is trying to determine a cost for my knowledge / labor.

  21. Get me started on the YAMAHAs from the 70s - early 90s. Then their specs falling off the charts just years later. I researched and I found a semi-respectable unit that won't do the same decibels, but might be better with the timbre of the music and sound quality... all crated up two hundred miles away right now😢

  23. With you this week Willie, it's the receiver going bonkers. Lasagna huh? I'm a big fan if it's got meat in it! With me for six months it's been my phone. It wasn't a year old when the connector on it for the charging wire failed and I couldn't charge it anymore. So I got them to send me another and it's a refurb *&%$. I still had to pay off the original. At least I could recharge it but it's had intermittent issues of it's own. Put the RC version of android 12 on it today and it let me send MB pictures with texts again. That was my latest affliction the last couple of weeks! It was a Screamin'-Sicilian Supreme out of the freezer tonight for me! Pretty good taste and a better than that crust. Without a good crust I just won't mess with it!

  32. I had a Yamaha system, once. I bought it while I was on Kauai. Don't know the model #s. Got in '92 or '93. A "Natural Sound" 5.1... the main speakers required a hand truck to move. Wasn't cheap... I think I paid $2000. I enjoyed it

  33. That old Yah looks my old RX1100. The tuners that came with them were the best I've ever had...before and afterwards too. Record Out is a cool feature, you could listen to something else while recording what you chose to record. It would need servicing though. S-N Ratio ++++++ THD ---- Channel separation ++++ Crosstalk --- Mine could double as a heater when it was cool and we had to open up to let the thc clouds out.

  39. So my final thoughts. I'm especially glad that I purchased these Heresys and happy that they match up well with the Khorns. The room is some what large and you would think the Khorns will fill it nicely. But with the Heresys at the rear it is a whole new ballgame. Now I don't run the Heresys with equal balance with the Khorns..just overloads the room,I.would expect that. What I do get is the same stereo 2 channel sound...it' s just so much fuller...but still with clarity and not distorted I can hear a difference throughout the house. I have the Marantz volume set at above 9 o'clock below 10. The real test is can I listen without fatigue for let's say 4 hours straight....so far so good 👍 And the nice thing is that I can switch off the Khorns and just listen to the Heresys if I so desire. I can see why Klipsch is such a long running production speaker.. I'm going to spend about a week listening to the Heresys....kinda need to be able to switch off. My original intention was to run all four when I was watching movies

  44. Been hooked on Rick Wakeman ever since I tagged along with my big brother and his buddy while they were going to the drive-in theatre (remember those days?). They were playing an eight track of YES Close to the Edge -- heard it, loved it, and was an instant fan. I'm fortunate and have got to meet all of my top three musicians ... Rick Wakeman, Brian May, and Steve Howe.

  46. an acquaintance of mine from many, many Years ago. fun guy to talk to -- he was a good storyteller. RIP Don, aka Captain Beefheart. Probably my favorite tune of his; but one the band hated and I believe this was on one of the albums that the Captain encouraged anyone who bought it to return it for a refund. Guess it was too traditional for the band.
