  1. Done with the storage space or whatever it's called, painted the frame and added 3/4" plywood to the deck with the bottom painted white to make space under it brighter. Moved the lights to about where they were above the deck to below. Started puting everything back where it goes, just put some things on top to get them out the way, need to get up there and slightly organize what I pitched up there. It turns out it is easier to get around up there than I thought it would be, about 4' in the middle.

  2. Well thank you. Well I did a bunch of things over the years, seems like I would get bored at about 5-7 years and change jobs compleatly. GM training school to work on cars, for a short time, no fun. A shipfitter building boats/ships but seen to many people get hurt or killed. Electrial work on land and offshore. Then restaurant mgr for years, fun but very long hours then insurance untill it burned me out and finally a long hobby turned into a business, landscaping/irrigation and sprinkler systems. The last one was fun and we did it for 20 years. Loved the designing part and making people happy. DTEL = Down to earth landscaping was the name, ok I had to come up with a name when I signed up here that was easy to remember. .

  4. Roberts got the name from the Yosemite Firefall at Yosemite National Park in California. The owners of a hotel threw burning logs off a mountain in a cascade as an annual event to entertain the guests.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefall <iframe src="https://open.spotify.com/embed/album/4umDRFICekImYxttpSLbaq" width="100%" height="380" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture"></iframe> Still no Spotify integration... Anyhow: I like the full sound, and the music is really good.

  5. Sounds about right, I am stuck but happy with it, 43 years. Crazy, both of us at times I guess but by now we know what to espect, mostly. I do tend to get in trouble at times, but if I do I deserve it most of the time. I just realized the other day how long I have been working on the shop, started building it in December, so 10 months so far. But that did include doing alot of work on tools, but there is music out there, speakers were the first thing i put in, sounds good too. I told my wife I will add some hooks on the beams and hang a hammock, I need that. .

  6. Nice DTEL. My garage needs surgery surely. Time to call some friends and offer premium bourbon for aid.

  7. It is only my opinion but I think you would want something larger than a pair of Heresy speakers for DJ duties. I agree with Marvel, even though La Scala speakers are large and can be awkward to move by yourself without a dolly or hand truck. As a plus, it would be really hard to kick in a La Scala woofer.

  8. Firefall Elan, 1978 pressing Second track they sound amazingly like CSN, harmonizing Haven't heard these guys in 20 years. Wide variety of styles Definitely an A list Band Just found the needle drops, last track Side B, Winds of Change This is part of the "Happy Girl Collection" I purchased at a Resale shop, I.m guessing early 20s when the collection was new, about 40 records all strong recordings.

  9. To Farmers Supply in the AM. Fungus in LF's yard and the guy that has been treating says it's bad. Wonder if he realizes it happened on his watch! So 20 pounds of Heritage G and then wait and see........ Bought a preamp yesterday on impulse. A Transcendent Sound "The Masterpiece". Need more equipment like I need another hole in my head but someones got to do it......right. It was shipped today. Will replace the Quicksilver Audio unit that was a bit long in the teeth. It will be in my second system at my other house so I'll rarely hear it😐

  10. So... I was reading today, that 4% of nurses in the US are from the Philippines. Mostly because the US set things up for them to supply the country with workers at the end of WWII.

  11. Interesting write up Another group that achieved record sales success but wasn't paid their worth. By their work product, they were an A list band. As to their later works, I will see if I can check them out May have been too big of a departure from their earlier work Rhonstadt was one of the few that was able to change Styles like most people change their socks

  13. That's funny, but I like building things and need to stay busy or I create new projects, it's how the outside bar happened I got bored and worked on it for months and added things later.

  14. You know what I learned in the east coast? You can say the most ridiculous, racist, tabooo off the wall shit you want AS LONG AS you say "bless your heart" FIRST. True story.

  15. Bless your heart. Oh no, we don't do things like that in CA or have the patience for more than 5 minutes. One weekend is pushing it bad. I paid too much to have 6 months worth of work done in a month or less (scattered).

  22. Most of you have been shamed so much for your logic that you've learned to suppress it. Groupthink is very strong these days.

  23. Yes RJD was a great rocker, RIP Stevie Ray also. Today I'm starting with Pat again! Barbeque and blues-rock go well together, had to dr my pulled pork with some cayenne.. YUM!

  24. I did, and it made a huge difference. If something was coming overhead front to back, with only 2 atmos speakers, it was a noticeable stop in sound. When I added 2 more atmos speakers, it helped the overhead sound continue

  26. Wow 75!!! Happy Birthday! πŸ₯³ My father made 60 last week, but he looks like 50. Very active, leads healthy lifestyle and travells a lot. But the main reason he's so energetic and young I suppose is that he's in love πŸ₯° We bought him marcus theatres gift card https://giftcards-market.com/downloads/marcus-theatres-gift-card/ to share his day with the best woman in the world!

  27. June, Welcome to the forum! With any used speaker, make sure the tweeters are working! If the music is treble-shy take a shortened paper towel center roll (or a TP roll, practically any tube) with you and put your ear to one end and hold the other end to the tweeter. If you know you will have help (the services of 2 people or King Kong) I'd recommend going big, if you can find the money. In order of choice, number 1 being the best: 1) Jubilees, 2) Klipshorns, 3) La Scalas, (possibly with a subwoofer or two, crossing over at about 60 Hz, preserving La Scala clean attack above 60 Hz, with extended bass down to the lower limit of the sub). There are three varieties of La Scala: La Scala, La Scala II, La Scala AL5, the most recent, the best 4)Belle Klipsch (used only) slightly shorter midrange horn, but close to La Scala otherwise. Or, host your own parties, if you have the room. Then, no Kong. A good number of people here will disagree with this, but use the bass control on your preamp. Much of the newer music D.J.s use has had the midrange boosted, and the bass attenuated in fighting the pointless Loudness Wars. The "suits" sometimes require this of the engineers, a morale killer. They can cut the disk louder if they cut the bass. Idiotic. Turn up the bass slowly for each selection, optimizing it by ear. You may want to set any subwoofers 3 dB to 6 dB (or more) hot. See Chris A's many posts on this forum on demastering badly mastered recordings, perhaps starting with The Missing Octave. Klipsch was the right place to come. 1,000 watts into a typical speaker (90 dB at 2.83v ~~ 1 watt into 8 Ohms ~~ at 1 Meter), would produce peaks of 113 dB out in a big room (if the speaker could take it -- as PWK used too say, "Better have a fire extinguisher ready). For those same 113 dB peaks, it would only take about 64 watts into a Jub, a Khorn, a La Scala, or a Belle. Best of luck! I know you will have fun.

  28. So then your choices nowadays are SEVERELY limited and non dependent on ethnicity or race. Got it. Stay married with the 1502 thumping my friend.

  29. No for me it would be messed up, I tend to stay up late and get up roughly 8 hours later, no clocks just whenever I get up. But I only (mostly) have just things I want to do so unless were going somewhere, it makes no difference. But off more than you work is great, sure beats 5+ days a week, I do not miss that even when I loved my job. .
    2 points
  30. My life is messed up then. Wake up at 0430 3 days a week. Good news is, I am off more days than I work.

  31. Those hours are messed up, even at 4 I would go back to sleep for hours, 5 or 6 probably. I drink leftover coffee all the time, it's 99.5% only me drinking it so unless I make very little a bunch of times a day it's the way it is. But I do not keep it hot, I warm it one at a time. Thought about one of them Keurig machine's but fill my own cups ? .

  32. @jubilee333 I'm up in Ohio and I've seen some great prices on La Scala's down there as well as other models of Klipsch. Forte's would sound great as well as Heresy's but LS if you can transport them would sound better imo. You mentioned Tampa so you might want to hook up w/a local guy who's also a member of the forum. He may know where you're working if it's a club or you're wanting to go ala carte on your own he might be able to help you that way. At least he'd be a good sounding board for ideas & info on stuff he's seen in your area but the decision is yours. It's your checkbook. I mean how large a space you're working in or plan to work in should be your first priority imo. All the guys in here are great so you'll get some good feedback. Hey@Emile jump in here and give the lady a hand.

  33. You have changed from a rational and logical thinker to a shill for the latest talking point. We all had to have multiple vaccinations to attend school for an elementary education (k through 12). All of a sudden now one more is a problem. Every leader has taken it, and most pundits have too despite what they spout on air. Several of those who did not have died from it. To me, that is defeatist, but everyone's mileage varies.

  36. Let me be tactful (if that is possible for me). This is a Garage Sale thread. Perhaps we can clean up the off-topic stuff. I am interested in a good home for the Jubilees. I truly believe these are a great value. They need a good home -Tom

  40. All quiet around here and "they" are saying the final round of showers are supposed to go thru tonight. High of 80 for Sunday and and some nice weather after. The other day I went out and put some fertilizer on the yard when "they" said only a 30% chance of showers. That's actually figured on 30% of Ohio. I'm good right? WRONG So much for the weeds and junk dying. Rained an hour after I finished. Wed evening I saw a freakin mouse running thru the kitchen. Yea a real darn mouse! Yesterday I was out buying a 2-pack of traps for $3. Slapped some cheese on 'em and kept my fingers somehow before putting them down. This morning there was the cheese on the floor and the trap under a hutch in the kitchen. I get the broom, come back in and the stinking trap AND the mouse that was in it are GONE. That's it. GONE. Where i don't know and i'm tired of looking. Now reverted to code yellow. Finished up the sub woofer today w/the new grill cloth installed inside the wire mesh Clear Gorilla glue spray then laid the cloth in. Worked slick! At least part of the week went well. hahaha @grasshopper ask your cats where it is please cause I can't find it anywhere. Slipped in the french screen doors somehow and it's a first for me. hahaha

  41. Is that worse than being shamed for a lack of logic? (the worst logic is that which begins with a false premise) (and the worst kind of groupthink is that which pretends to not be groupthink)

  45. Happy to elaborate, so no one should fear the tone controls. In my old rig, vinyl only, ARC SP3 (which I picked up cause it had tone controls) I never used the tone controls, everything sounded fine flat and pure. My current rig, digital files via the Topping E30 to the vintage Technics receiver preamp feeding the esoteric OTL tube amps to my now highly modded Heresys (soon to unveiled to the world, or at least the forum), I am heavily reliant on the tone controls. Whether to adjust for my preference for slightly rolled off treble, slight bass boost to compensate for the Heresy shy low bass, or source corrections, or now to compensate for the crazy mods to my Heresys, the tone controls are well employed all the time. I find this a suitable analog alternative to the DSP mantra so often espoused by others on the forum. No longer scared of the naysayers, believe we should all just find the path that best suits their ears in their room.
